[01:12:24] Bray90820: Anyone around?
[01:18:55] shiggitay: no
[01:21:53] Bray90820: :P
[01:22:22] Bray90820: I'll ask my question again eventho it's kinda repeating myself
[01:22:26] Bray90820: my mythtv frontend seems to be extremely slow and can't connect to my backend
[01:22:28] Bray90820: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/9931ab20ac35596ded23
[01:24:52] shiggitay: Bray90820, I have clue why, besides checking to make sure you don't have a firewall or other such interference between you and the backend
[01:25:26] shiggitay: I've not used MythFrontend since I discovered how powerful MythWeb is, and I use Kodi as my frontend. So much more stable and useful for me.
[01:26:16] shiggitay: So for scheduling and managing recordings I use MythWeb, and for watching anything (LiveTV or recordings etc) I use Kodi with add-ons and PVR add-ons
[01:27:29] shiggitay: The best part about MythWeb for me is that I've made it available outside my local network, so I can access and/or stream content from anywhere I am. At least in theory that'd work.. The most I can realistically do is alter/add stuff to record...
[01:35:20] Shadow__X: Connection to master server timed out.#012#011#011#011Either the server is down or the master server settings#012#011#011#011in mythtv-settings does not contain the proper IP address
[01:35:27] Shadow__X: it keeps spitting that out over and over again
[01:35:30] Shadow__X: fix the ip
[01:38:44] Bray90820: Shadow__X: do you happen to know what IP address it's looking foir because It looks like that is the correct IP address is entered
[01:39:04] Roklobotomy (Roklobotomy!~Roklobsta@ppp118-209-15-50.lns20.mel4.internode.on.net) has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[01:39:05] Shadow__X: yeah, the ip of your backend
[01:39:18] Shadow__X: and if you setup your backend to point to 127.0.0.1 thats not gonna work
[01:39:34] ** shiggitay holds back a chuckle **
[01:40:18] Bray90820: Shadow__X: But what number is it looking at so i know if it's the one i actually entered or not
[01:40:38] shiggitay: Bray90820, let me ask you this... is your backend on the same machine you're on now?
[01:40:47] shiggitay: i.e. is on the same machine as the frontend
[01:40:50] shiggitay: is it*
[01:40:55] shiggitay: ?
[01:40:57] Shadow__X: Bray90820: you set it up, how i am i supposed to know what number you entered
[01:41:01] shiggitay: lol.
[01:41:36] Bray90820: Shadow__X: I am not asking for what I entered I am asking for which one the application is trying to find
[01:41:51] shiggitay: it's trying to find the IP address of the machine it's running on
[01:42:00] shiggitay: Bray90820, have you had this working before?
[01:42:46] shiggitay: for example I have my backend stuff running on a separate computer than this one. so my IP is 192.168.25.114
[01:43:14] Bray90820: shiggitay: yes on ubuntu 14.10 but then i reinstalled 15.04 and now it stopped working and yes the front and backends are on the same machine
[01:43:46] Bray90820: shiggitay: maybe I entered 192.168.1.7 and the logs are saying it's looking for 192.168.1.8 or something
[01:43:46] shiggitay: okay then pop open a terminal and do ifconfig eth0 to find the IP
[01:43:52] Bray90820: wrong ping
[01:43:57] Bray90820: Shadow__X:
[01:44:01] shiggitay: xD
[01:44:02] shiggitay: it's ok
[01:44:18] Bray90820: But do you get what I am asking
[01:44:28] shiggitay: once you get the IP open up MythTV Setup and fix stuff accordingly
[01:44:33] Bray90820: maybe the frontend is looking for a different number then I entered in the backend
[01:45:00] shiggitay: as I said, find the IP, load up setup, fix it there, and make sure the frontend also has the same IP
[01:45:41] shiggitay: as Shadow__X said make sure it's not anything like "localhost" or "127.0.0.1"
[01:46:51] shiggitay: without this sounding rude, we can't help you unless you help yourself :)
[01:46:54] Bray90820: What I entered in the backend is and frontend are correct but it's still failing
[01:47:18] shiggitay: check logs for the error
[01:48:57] shiggitay: make sure both Mythbackend and mysqld processes are running
[01:49:35] Shadow__X: shiggitay: yup
[01:49:56] shiggitay: As much of a pain in the ass that Myth is, I've grown to love it
[01:50:16] ** shiggitay has it running on a Hackintosh <3 **
[01:50:37] Shadow__X: i have been running it since 2007, linux backend
[01:50:46] shiggitay: awesomesauce
[01:50:46] Bray90820: shiggitay: I can't even get the backend started
[01:50:56] Shadow__X: i won't be upgrading to mythbutnu 15.04 though,
[01:50:59] Bray90820: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/0f03d42c477ee8bc16c5
[01:51:23] shiggitay: Do what it says.
[01:51:29] Shadow__X: Bray90820: why don't you reformat the box and install 14.04 and not upgrade to 15.04. iirc you asked this same question in mythbuntu and thats what you were told
[01:51:53] Bray90820: What changed in 15.04 that would make it fail
[01:52:26] Shadow__X: Bray90820: was it you that was told to reinstall 14.04?
[01:52:28] shiggitay: well either start over with 14.04 or just reinstall MythTV
[01:52:48] shiggitay: i.e. apt-get install mythtv
[01:52:53] Shadow__X: shiggitay: imo if Bray90820 is using mythbuntu, just reinstall. afaik the install isn't really old
[01:53:05] Bray90820: I am not ubuntu mythbuntu
[01:53:19] shiggitay: so you're on generic Ubuntu?
[01:53:26] Bray90820: Yes
[01:53:32] shiggitay: Shadow__X,
[01:53:34] shiggitay: heh
[01:54:25] shiggitay: I don't run Ubuntu, so besides recommending what to do, I don't know HOW to do it on such a system
[01:54:28] Shadow__X: Bray90820: 15.04 switched over to sysctl, and iirc there may be issues with the default mythtv script shipped by ubuntu
[01:54:53] Shadow__X: shiggitay: mythbuntu is super easy, install it, set it up, set up mythbuntu repos, enjoy
[01:55:25] shiggitay: oh I know how easy it is, but I really don't feel like fscking with something that works so well
[01:55:26] shiggitay: lol
[01:55:43] Shadow__X: yeah
[01:55:54] shiggitay: I run Funtoo Linux here, soon to have a laptop that'll dualboot Sabayon Linux and Mac OS X (might triple boot with Windows 7.. not sure yet)
[01:56:56] Shadow__X: what is funtoo based on? wacky ubuntu?
[01:57:06] Shadow__X: fedora with a unity theme?
[01:57:12] shiggitay: Funtoo in case you don't know is based on Gentoo Linux though the main difference is how packages are managed and how code changes are committed etc
[01:57:21] Shadow__X: gotcha
[01:57:24] shiggitay: basically they use Git for their updates and what not
[01:58:13] shiggitay: Shadow__X, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funtoo_Linux
[02:01:02] shiggitay: also http://www.funtoo.org/Welcome
[02:02:11] Shadow__X: i haven't tried gentoo in years
[02:02:15] shiggitay: Anyway... Bray90820 how's it going?
[02:02:25] shiggitay: Shadow__X, Funtoo is SOOOO much easier to set up....
[02:02:33] Shadow__X: bray is mourning the loss of his mythtv install
[02:03:00] Bray90820: shiggitay: I am still trying with 15.04 for a while I will prob go with 14.04 tomorrow if I can't get it working
[02:03:08] shiggitay: heh
[02:03:17] Shadow__X: Bray90820: if you go with 14.04, don't upgrade to 15.04
[02:03:30] Bray90820: Well duh
[02:03:40] Bray90820: I'll upgrade on the next LTS release
[02:03:40] Shadow__X: and make sure you use the real ip address in backend setup :D
[02:03:48] shiggitay: XD
[02:03:50] Bray90820: It was the real IP address
[02:03:56] Shadow__X: i am giving csi cyber a try, its awful
[02:04:15] Shadow__X: Bray90820: sounds like your backend isn't running. you can save your DB and recordings
[02:04:22] Shadow__X: then import all that info into the new install
[02:05:41] Bray90820: Shadow__X: You are correct my backend isn't running and it's failing to start https://gist.github.com/anonymous/9beaf2493a5ebd0f002f
[02:06:47] Shadow__X: Bray90820: if mysql is running you can save your db
[02:07:00] Shadow__X: and then backup your db and your recordings
[02:07:01] Bray90820: I already have a backup of my DB
[02:07:18] Bray90820: I backed up before I ungraded to 15.04
[02:07:28] Shadow__X: smart move
[02:07:42] Bray90820: But right now I am actually running on a fresh install of 15.04 and not an upgrade

[02:14:30] Shadow__X: Bray90820: have you looked into mythbuntu stuff?
[02:15:13] Bray90820: I have and actually found it easier to use standard ubuntu
[02:15:24] Bray90820: Everything was fine until 15.04
[02:16:31] tgm4883: Well that seems a bit odd
[02:17:19] Shadow__X: Bray90820: whatever you decide to do, don't forget to use mythbuntu repos, that way you get mythtv updates
[02:17:36] Bray90820: Alright
[02:18:46] Shadow__X: tgm4883: which bit, 15.04 causing problems or preferring ubuntu or mythbuntu?
[02:19:37] tgm4883: Ubuntu over mythbuntu
[02:20:00] tgm4883: Well, one being easier than e other
[02:20:02] Shadow__X: yeah, i felt the same way
[02:20:13] Shadow__X: i think mythbuntu is leagues better for mythtv but thats me
[02:20:55] tgm4883: Yep
[02:21:12] tgm4883: I've got some ideas for the future too

[21:12:52] tgm4883: docjay: mythbuntu
[21:13:17] tgm4883: docjay: most users use mythbuntu or other *buntu variant
[21:14:05] docjay: thats probably best then since I need to run Unfi Video as well. they only have packages for ubuntu and debian.
[21:14:25] docjay: Ubiquiti that is...
[21:19:45] Shadow__X: also make sure mythtv is working completely before trying a third party client
[21:21:45] tgm4883: yes

[21:44:05] docjay: is there an easy way to copy over myth backend settings from one system to another? Or just a way to backup the backend settings?
[21:45:54] [R]: backup the db
[21:45:56] [R]: thats everythign
[21:49:07] tgm4883: hmm, the pi 2 seems to work pretty well for a backend
[21:55:24] docjay: great, thanks for the tip.
[21:56:10] docjay: tgm4883, did you use raspian or ...?
[21:56:37] tgm4883: docjay: I installed ubuntu for the pi 2 and then installed mythtv from there
[21:56:57] tgm4883: I'm seeing whats needed then I'm probably going to create an image for it
[21:57:08] docjay: okay, kewl. Is there a special image for that or just run the iso?
[21:57:26] tgm4883: I can't seem to find kodi pre-built for it though. I don't see it in the raspbian repos so I'll probably have to compile it
[21:57:32] tgm4883: docjay: there is a special image
[21:57:43] tgm4883: docjay: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi#Download
[21:58:25] tgm4883: I've tested it writing to the local SD card and seems to work fine
[21:58:26] docjay: awesome, thx. I got a pi 2 a few weeks back and I planned on using it for a 2nd TV. wanted to use the mythtv frontend for that.
[21:58:50] tgm4883: docjay: mythfrontend won't run on the pi
[21:58:58] tgm4883: well it will, but you don't want to use it for video playbak
[21:59:10] docjay: scratch that  ;)
[21:59:24] tgm4883: that's why i'm looking at testing kodi on it
[21:59:26] docjay: kodi then maybe?
[21:59:29] docjay: sweet
[21:59:33] tgm4883: yea I hear kodi works
[21:59:40] tgm4883: but I don't see it pre-built for arm anywhere
[21:59:45] tgm4883: although supposedly it is
[22:00:16] docjay: the cppmyth plugin works great, lots of stuff added for v .28

[22:12:42] docjay: tgm4883: why not use openelec?
[22:13:43] tgm4883: docjay: openelec doesn't include a backend
[22:14:37] docjay: tgm4883: okay, didn't know you wanted a BE also
[22:15:13] tgm4883: docjay: yea, I'm attempting to make a single image that will do frontend and backend duties on a pi
[22:15:31] docjay: great idea  :)
[22:19:03] tgm4883: yep, I think with the price of them that it could really be something to point people at

[22:31:07] docjay: trying to upgrade from .27 to .28 with mythbuntu. I've selected the new dev repository in the control center. Do I need to do a 'apt-get dist-upgrade' to get it installed?
[22:31:28] tgm4883: docjay: yes, but you'll need to do apt-get update first
[22:32:23] docjay: awesome, thanks
