[00:03:50] Kichigai: Howdy all. I'm trying to find an XMLTV ID for a channel that the channel scanner hasn't yet ID'd. Is there somewhere I can go to look that up, and possibly contribute an ID to the scanner?

[00:52:52] bill6502: A3679: what version of MythTV are you running?
[00:54:30] A3679: 27
[00:54:31] A3679: 0.27
[00:54:42] A3679: bill6502:
[00:58:35] bill6502: OK, can you pastebin you most recent run of the backend (starting with the line that contains text similar to this: mythbackend version: master [v0.28-pre-2748-g73cf704].)
[00:59:45] bill6502: Or, stop the backend and restart it from the command line like this: sudo mythbackend -v file --loglevel debug --logpath /tmp
[01:00:33] bill6502: then stop it again and pastebin the file in /tmp, the filename will be obvious.

[01:42:12] bill6502: Same problem: Error 8: The bound address is already in use. You'd normally do: sudo stop mythtv-backend and that would stop it properly. To prove that it's stopped, type: ps ax|grep mythbackend|grep -v grep and expect to see nothing. If there are still processes running type: sudo kill <PID>
[01:42:45] A3679: i think it is stopped
[01:44:08] bill6502: There have been cases where it's should be stopped yet there are processes running. Use the ps command above before trying to restart it.

[02:00:16] bill6502: Important question, what's the newest backup (ls -lrt /var/lib/mythtv/db_backup)
[02:01:07] bill6502: db_backups (I dropped the s)
[02:03:35] A3679: Last friday March 6th
[02:03:50] bill6502: If there's a recent backup, then you want to look at: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_a . . . base_Restore . I'm done for the day. Good luck.
[02:05:06] A3679: bill6502: Thanks for the help

[02:33:39] Lexridge: Hey guys. Is anyone up for a really stupid question, which Google is failing to provide me an answer to?
[02:34:44] Lexridge: I just upgraded my myth frontend to Fedora 21. My backend is running Fedora 17 (Myth 26.2). The database schema is complaining. What is the fix besides upgrading my backend machine too?
[02:34:48] Roklobsta: ask away
[02:35:07] [R]: Lexridge: there is no "fix"
[02:35:10] [R]: your versions need to match
[02:35:14] Roklobsta: i think the schemas have to be the same
[02:35:37] Lexridge: Can I not just update the schema on the backend?
[02:35:48] [R]: the schema is the myth version
[02:35:57] Roklobsta: no because there is code the will break otherwise
[02:36:13] Lexridge: I thought the schema was the database tables.
[02:36:37] [R]: yes, and the code has to match the tables
[02:36:53] [R]: its not going to magically know what to do with the new fields
[02:37:06] Lexridge: so if what you are saying is right, I cannot even backup my 26.2 and move that into a newer backend. Right?
[02:37:16] [R]: you can, cuz there is upgrade code
[02:37:29] ikevin: maybe you can try to make a mysql view, so you can have some bug
[02:37:48] Lexridge: The error message says, run mythtv-setup and update your schema. Will that not work?
[02:38:08] Lexridge: I didnt want to just blindly try that.
[02:38:19] [R]: all your versions need to match
[02:38:20] [R]: end of story
[02:38:54] Lexridge: I am presently using XBMC/Kodi to make it work, and that does work fine. I just like MythFrontend better for live tv.
[02:39:22] ikevin: livetv work fine :o
[02:39:42] Lexridge: it does, yes.
[02:41:13] Lexridge: Damn, updating that backend is going to be such a PITA

[02:41:42] ikevin: why don't upgrading the frontend too?
[02:41:54] Lexridge: I just updated the frontend. That is the problem
[02:42:02] Roklobsta: isn't there a repo with a version you can use?
[02:42:11] ikevin: erf, the backend*
[02:42:14] Lexridge: Not for an old Fedora 17 release there isnt
[02:42:37] Lexridge: and I have tried to build it from source, but my libC is not new enough
[02:42:44] Roklobsta: eh, just backup the sql database, update system, reapply database and youare good to go
[02:42:45] Lexridge: glibc that is
[02:43:23] Lexridge: yes, but that system is much more than just my mythbackend. It has a 10TB RAID with movies, tv shows, home directories, etc
[02:44:12] Roklobsta: is the os on a seperate drive or parition?
[02:44:24] Lexridge: its on its own mirrored drives
[02:45:25] Lexridge: and it is my FreeFactory server too. Drag and drop video conversion on samba shares.
[02:45:53] ikevin: setup a VM dedicated for myth
[02:46:21] Lexridge: humm, that is not an idea I have not thought about. It is an 8 core machine, so it should handle it okay.
[02:46:47] Lexridge: I always just assumed vm's would be a pain to keep up.
[02:46:55] ikevin: or a chroot if virtualisation cause problem
[02:48:10] Lexridge: I will just backup /etc and /usr/source and /video and do a reinstall I guess. It's March afterall, and all programming is in reruns now lol
[02:48:44] Roklobsta: use the sql backup script to be sure to be sure
[02:48:56] Lexridge: I use it nightly with a cron script anyway.
[02:48:59] ikevin: i don't know fedora, so you maybe can upgrade without reinstall
[02:49:13] Lexridge: I could, but I am too many versions out of date.
[02:49:40] Roklobsta: just install rolling debian
[02:49:44] Lexridge: I would have to update two or three times to catch up....and besides, I am using a compiled version of Myth on that machine anyway
[02:51:07] ikevin: if you have space, you can install the new fedora version on a different partition to keep your current install
[02:51:39] Lexridge: Has mythtv been ported to ARM arch yet? Maybe I should be looking at a RPi2 to run it on lol
[02:52:38] Lexridge: Actually, I will dd my system drive, then download F19 tomorrow, then do the F21 upgrade and see if that all holds together.
[02:52:59] ikevin: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/ARM_Systems
[02:54:18] Lexridge: Well that is interesting!
[02:56:54] Lexridge: I have been wanting to get a RPi2 since it came out. I will order one tomorrow.
[02:57:06] Lexridge: $35 is an incredible price!
[02:57:41] ikevin: Rpi 2 are very good lowcost hw
[02:57:57] Lexridge: can they be clustered?
[02:59:06] ikevin: no idea
[02:59:15] Lexridge: it would almost be awesome to have 4 of those things all clustered together into one tiny super computer lol
[02:59:52] ikevin: you can use an appliance to get a good tiny computer
[03:00:46] Lexridge: thanks for your suggestions. I have some food for thought now. I will do something this weekend. Probably try the multi-upgrade path first, after a nice safe DD of the system drive. thank you so much!
[03:01:30] Lexridge: and order a RPi2 tomorrow too, just to mess around with.
[03:02:32] Lexridge: there is even Pidora available for it!! COOL!
[03:02:39] Lexridge: goodnight all. Thanks again

[21:29:40] bill6502: Bray90820: Your choice. See if you have a file named: ~mythtv/.mythtv/backuprc and look for the line like: rotate=20 (that's what I selected.) I backup weekly, so 20 weeks worth. Unless there's a DB upgrade that automatically backs up the DB, which is the case for those of us running on master.
[21:30:41] bill6502: It can also be set on the command line, like this: /usr/local/share/mythtv/mythconverg_backup.pl --rotate=20
[21:32:43] Bray90820: So rotate= is based on number of backups or amount of time

[21:37:58] bill6502: Note that if you were to run it out of cron saving 30 and then ran it from the command line saving 10, the script would obey your request and delete the oldest 20 backups.
[21:38:38] bill6502: I elected to do it out of cron.weekly. What distribution are you running?
[21:39:10] Bray90820: ubuntu 14.10
[21:39:14] bill6502: cron.weekly runs at the time specified in /etc/crontab
[21:40:00] bill6502: Look in /etc/cron.weekly for a script named: mythtv-database. It may be there already.
[21:41:12] Bray90820: Well I use XBMC for my front-end and it's really easy to delete the default recording profile so If i ed up removing it I will loose the data from my weekly recordings
[21:42:15] bill6502: Were you A3679 yesterday?

[21:44:07] bill6502: If you find the script (and you must have had something running automatically or you wouldn't have had the 3/6 backup) and move it to /etc/cron.daily.
[21:46:24] Bray90820: bill6502: For my setup do you think it's a good idea to set it to daily?
[21:46:35] bill6502: I modified the command line in mine by adding the --verbose option and redirecting the output to /tmp (> /tmp/backup.log) for example.
[21:48:08] bill6502: You get to answer that one. I don't know how much grunt your backend has, how many recordings you keep or what load the backup puts on the BE host.
[21:48:51] bill6502: I'm quite certain that there are users on the mailing list that have mentioned daily backups. So it's not unusual.
