[02:52:08] Kwisher: what router you got?

[02:55:01] Jonathan_e: dd-wrt on another router
[02:58:10] Kwisher: need the one running dhcp

[02:58:56] Kwisher: yes
[02:59:06] Jonathan_e: thx
[02:59:06] Kwisher: you'll need the mac address
[02:59:23] Kwisher: that is in ifconfig also
[02:59:55] Jonathan_e: can I use the command ifconfig to setup a static ip address?
[03:00:04] Kwisher: no
[03:00:11] Jonathan_e: k
[03:00:51] Kwisher: say you bork up your myth setup and you do the static with a config fileon the machine
[03:00:56] Jonathan_e: is it a good idea to run mythtv on a machine in a dmz zone?
[03:01:16] Kwisher: soyou reinstall and then you have to redo the file agin
[03:01:40] Kwisher: with a dhcp reservation, your mac address will always get the same ip
[03:01:55] Kwisher: no to dmz zone
[03:02:39] Jonathan_e: in general, is mythtv possible to be used by a newbie to linux, and a general novice network guy – like me.

[03:21:37] Kwisher: i used it for digital cable before they started encrypting it
[03:21:37] Jonathan_e: thx, I understand that over the air prodcasting is HD digital now, put I just didn't understand that statement on the wiki
[03:22:33] Jonathan_e: lspci, I'm not sure shows my card ( which is in the linux machine , now)
[03:22:35] Kwisher: i think you might need some firmware though, but it's been a few years since i used that card
[03:23:01] Jonathan_e: I do think the wiki listed a firmware upgrade
[03:24:12] Kwisher: one of my pci tuners looks like this in lspci: 03:05.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7131/SAA7133/SAA7135 Video Broadcast Decoder (rev d1)
[03:25:55] Jonathan_e: yes, I google one of the enters under lspci and got hauppauge cards to come up ( not my card, though)
[03:26:55] Jonathan_e: thx, everyone, I've got to get a little to eat, hopefully, I will stay at getting this to work
[03:27:18] Jonathan_e: I really have wanted to use mythtv -for years , now
[03:27:44] Jonathan_e: everyone , seems to want to just run flex, and not a dvr setup
[03:27:56] Kwisher: Jonathan_e: i have the 1800 firmware if you need it
[03:28:15] Jonathan_e: not sure how to get the file?
[03:28:53] Kwisher: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0q9vfwqfq7yztye/AA . . . 4YZZXNa?dl=0
[03:29:04] Jonathan_e: thx Kwisher
[03:29:31] Kwisher: you will need to copy the 2 *.fw files to /lib/firmware, iirc
[03:29:45] Jonathan_e: got to run, thx, again
