[06:38:06] dekarl: RedPenguin: that is default behaviour when the recording is detected as broken and you have scheduled multiple copies for record, leaving the schulder to find the duplicates
[07:18:45] vontrapp: what counts as "broken"?
[07:35:05] J-e-f-f-A (J-e-f-f-A!~J-e-f-f-A@24-177-48-184.dhcp.oxfr.ma.charter.com) has joined #mythtv-users

[08:21:25] RedPenguin: dekarl: so you have to manually sch 2 recordings, so if it airs at 10PM and 1AM, you have to have both scheduled?
[08:29:05] stuartm: no
[08:30:34] stuartm: vontrapp: partial or complete failure to record, or a significant number of missing packets (discontinuities) caused by signal dropout
[08:32:18] stuartm: RedPenguin: if you've used "Record One", or "Record All Showings" then it will re-record, but if you used "Record (only) this showing" then I don't believe it will attempt to record a repeat should the first recording fail
[08:34:12] RedPenguin: ok ty, I tried looking it up, but it wasn't quite as easy to find the info you just stated
[08:46:19] dekarl: basically you want good guide data, set mythtv to record $GoodStuffSeries anytime and anywhere and let the scheduler figure out repeats that you don't want to record. And repeats that you *do* want to record due to failed recordings
[08:49:09] dekarl: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Duplicate_matching http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Scheduling_Recordings <- we need better documentation...
[08:51:57] joki (joki!~joki@p54860D45.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
[08:55:36] dekarl: The part with "when automatically deleting unwatched recordings to make room for new recordings you can choose to have them automatically re-recorded the next time they air" and "its preferred to just set every series to record everytime everywhere to avoid breaking rules when rescanning"
[08:55:43] dekarl: is missing
[08:57:02] RedPenguin: Also the fact that MythTV doesn't allow multiple access to a tuner with a CableCard
[08:57:31] RedPenguin: Is that MythTV or the CableCard standard? I have a PRIME and SiliconDust claims a PVR should be able to have multiple access to a tuner if it's recordings for same ch
[08:58:08] RedPenguin: Right now if I say record 1 show at 9AM and 10AM, it uses two tuners
[08:58:13] dekarl: well, that is work in progress... The CableCard allows access to one channel per tuner. But MythTV could record overlapping from *the same* channel to allow for some slack on the broadcasters side
[08:58:32] joki (joki!~joki@p54862710.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has joined #mythtv-users
[08:58:58] dekarl: but the M-Cards allow up to 6 tuners per card
[09:00:14] dekarl: currently multi-rec is mostly about recording *different* channels from the same tuner/multiplex
[09:01:05] RedPenguin: Oh ok
[09:01:19] RedPenguin: I know when I was in ClearQAM mode, if I wanted a truTV marathon, it would use 1 tuner all day
[09:01:39] RedPenguin: With the CC inserted, it flip-flops between 2 tuners
[09:02:51] dekarl: that flip flopping sounds like expected though unwanted behaviour with work in progress around that area of the code. (aka good things that might make it into 0.28)
[09:03:11] dekarl: as always, no ETA though :)

[09:12:13] RedPenguin: dekarl: sounds cool, thanks
[09:12:39] RedPenguin: I think I read online on once, they were maybe going to do a "hack-job" and redump part of the previous recorded program or something to do it
[09:12:57] RedPenguin: Seems to be the pre/post that mainly causes the extra tuner
[09:14:08] dekarl: correct. back-to-back recordings without overlap should just use one tuner already
[09:14:50] RedPenguin: I have to schedule manual recordings to fix conflicts right now
[09:14:59] RedPenguin: not all the time but somewhat frequent
[09:20:00] dekarl: hmm, you can resolve conflicts by telling the scheduler to "don't record" a planned recording. Not sure if that is what you are doing
[09:21:35] RedPenguin: dekarl: Oh I know that, I just have a lot of recordings near each other that only air once
[09:22:06] RedPenguin: Only have 3 tuners with a lot of recordings
[09:23:13] RedPenguin: So if two shows on A&E, 2 shows on Discovery, and 2 shows on truTV, I end up with a conflict if I don't make at least 1 a manual

So far, I don't see any issues with Mythweb, which I'm always afraid will happen. I can't do too many tests with the backend but it seems to be working okay.
