[01:28:00] mattwj2002: hi guys
[01:28:14] mattwj2002: well Comcrap encrypted all the OTA channels in Minneapolis
[01:28:15] mattwj2002: :(
[01:28:44] mattwj2002: actually everything is encrypted besides a channel for telling people to get a cable box
[01:28:59] mattwj2002: those bastards *shakes fist*
[01:30:26] drac_boy: mattwj I'm guessing no direct cable connection.. have to go through wall>comcasttuner>yourtuner instead?
[01:30:37] mattwj2002: yeah
[01:30:44] mattwj2002: I know
[01:30:53] mattwj2002: but for the time being anyways
[01:31:02] mattwj2002: mythtv isn't working :(
[01:31:20] drac_boy: mm
[01:31:28] mattwj2002: so I have to decide
[01:31:52] mattwj2002: am I going to cancel and try for ota (probably not my signals sucks)
[01:32:11] drac_boy: mattwj this was one small reason (other reasons were too much bigger) why I scrapped any idea of tv watching on september 2011 ..because crtc was like "look the deadline already went by and sorry we're still NOT helping you with the cost goodbye!"
[01:32:11] mattwj2002: or am I going to up my service which I hate to do for the principle of the deal
[01:32:48] mattwj2002: I hear you there drac_boy
[01:33:21] drac_boy: mattwj and weirdly enough even 2 years later theres still no -actual- tuner boxes to be found anywhere..just basically old vapourware "release" news
[01:33:27] mattwj2002: drac_boy: there base model box looks WORSE than plan analog tv
[01:33:49] mattwj2002: *plain
[01:33:55] drac_boy: ^_^
[01:34:05] mattwj2002: 4:3 on my 16:9 tv
[01:34:09] mattwj2002: and fuzzy as hell
[01:34:57] mattwj2002: there isn't even rca out on their stupid box you have to go through analog channels on your tv
[01:35:41] mattwj2002: rca being the some as composite
[01:36:06] drac_boy: mattwj mind you before august 2011 I had quite a 'big' system going .. even to the point of more than one antenna as well ... but come september 2011 most of it was dead and after repeative hollow answers from crtc I finally scrapped almost all of it except for a basic dvd-to-tv part etc
[01:36:15] drac_boy: oh well what can I really say anyway
[01:36:46] mattwj2002: drac_boy: I live in an apartment
[01:37:06] mattwj2002: if I had a house.....I would put up the biggest best antenna and tell Comcrap to eat crap :)
[01:37:19] drac_boy: mattwj..heh you mean outdoor antenna? :)
[01:37:28] mattwj2002: right
[01:37:39] mattwj2002: like a tower or at minimum one on the roof
[01:37:39] drac_boy: mm yeah
[01:38:00] mattwj2002: drac_boy: all I have is basic cable and I do mean basic
[01:38:05] mattwj2002: like 20 channels top
[01:38:09] mattwj2002: $13 per month
[01:38:21] mattwj2002: but it shouldn't look like crap....it is BS :)
[01:38:32] drac_boy: well I just had simple indoor antennas (which still had very good signals considering the thick tree 'wrapping' around house and living on a bit of hill altogether surprisingly)
[01:38:49] drac_boy: heh $13 for crap...I can imagine :)
[01:39:26] mattwj2002: drac_boy: it wasn't bad when I could use my clearqam tuners built into my tvs
[01:39:40] mattwj2002: there stupid tuner is what is ticking me off
[01:39:48] mattwj2002: drac_boy: what country do you live in?
[01:39:49] drac_boy: mm yeah
[01:40:09] drac_boy: canada (which is why its crtc rather than fcc if that wasn't a tipoff yet)
[01:40:17] mattwj2002: oh yeah
[01:40:28] mattwj2002: sorry I thought crtc was your cable provider
[01:40:29] mattwj2002: :)
[01:40:44] drac_boy: hmm just thinking...let me try draw a quick scheme of what I still remember in case you wanted to comment on something..
[01:40:54] mattwj2002: surce
[01:41:02] mattwj2002: *sure
[01:41:28] mattwj2002: drac_boy: if you are interested......the FCC basically was purchased by Comcast
[01:41:38] mattwj2002: one second I'll give you some links to back that up

[01:44:36] mattwj2002: drac_boy: I know you live in Canada but I wonder if a cable card is an option with basic cable
[01:44:42] mattwj2002: here in the US
[01:54:28] mattwj2002: drac_boy: you still here?
[01:54:51] drac_boy: sorry yeah..just drawing :->
[01:55:05] drac_boy: as for cable card..no clue..last I heard companies were still trying to "ignore" it
[01:55:16] drac_boy: I do know that for satellite you at least have legal CI cards
[01:55:40] mattwj2002: ci card what is that?
[01:56:18] drac_boy: id card for the paid channels basically
[01:56:26] mattwj2002: ah got ya
[02:09:06] drac_boy: anyway I left the usual non-tv things out (such as dvd player or the snes etc) but mm you probably still can get some ideas of looking at it tho....

[02:11:48] mattwj2002: nice drac_boy
[02:12:02] mattwj2002: most people I know don't have a map of their tv setup :D
[02:12:06] drac_boy: mattwj yeah mind you the cursing was usually for real....
[02:12:25] drac_boy: I never could figure out why the main power part always blew out after long uses .. even after modifying the design a few times
[02:12:43] drac_boy: but mm oh well with the scrappage on september 2011 I never really figured out the actual issue
[02:13:10] mattwj2002: got ya
[02:13:30] mattwj2002: drac_boy: I am not a big tv watcher
[02:13:53] drac_boy: funny enough the 5db one never had any problem as far as I recall
[02:14:08] drac_boy: mattwj...well there was only about 5–8 channels depending on the day here
[02:14:24] mattwj2002: but I really want a few channels for background noise, news, and just general entertainment
[02:14:26] drac_boy: the only reason the computer got its own was to avoid any ohm problems to put it this way
[02:14:41] mattwj2002: got ya :)
[02:15:02] drac_boy: mattwj the weird thing which I never could understand tho is...
[02:15:16] mattwj2002: yeah?
[02:15:45] drac_boy: the cc decoder box is like from the 80's but guess what? it can flip channels like fast enough to blow your brain out ... and the weird thing is of the many tvs I've tried (even newer ones now) still can't even flip as fast at all
[02:16:03] drac_boy: they must had done something really good to the schematics they used in that one box :p
[02:16:15] mattwj2002: hehe
[02:16:29] mattwj2002: flipping channels is slow now with digital
[02:16:35] drac_boy: mattwj to put it another way..it even had an autoscan mode that was too fast yet usually 100% accuracy too
[02:17:10] mattwj2002: nice
[02:18:24] drac_boy: for example if I took the rca tv jump to channel 13 (which is good picture) then hit the up button, it'll flip to 14...sit there for a moment in hissy static....flip 15 and repeat loud hissing...finally flip to 16 ... (and this keep going on till the first good picture again at 24) ...
[02:19:09] mattwj2002: drac_boy: what is the deal with Canada?
[02:19:18] mattwj2002: are you guys all digital up there?
[02:19:38] mattwj2002: I don't even know and I am 6 hours from the US/Candian border :(
[02:19:44] mattwj2002: *Canadian
[02:19:47] drac_boy: but if I turn the cc decoder box on then key in channel 13, theres the picture – now hit the up button it goes 14 for a moment then suddenly goes 15 16 17 18 19 20 with a lot of half-blind white flashing then abruptly stops at 24
[02:19:58] mattwj2002: lol
[02:20:00] drac_boy: and that only took the box like one second to do compared to 20+ seconds for the tv's own tuner
[02:20:09] mattwj2002: hehe
[02:20:22] drac_boy: I tell you...that old box really knew how to scan :-|
[02:20:36] mattwj2002: sounds cool
[02:20:50] mattwj2002: I miss static :(
[02:20:58] mattwj2002: we are all digital here now
[02:21:17] drac_boy: mattwj...amusingly enough it had an 'ANT / CAB' switch on the rear which more or less voluntarly told the scanner how far up to go and especially with signal strength at same time as well
[02:21:44] drac_boy: the remote itself had a '100+' button to match that just as well
[02:21:53] mattwj2002: nice
[02:22:10] mattwj2002: so drac_boy are you guys all digital?
[02:22:18] drac_boy: mattwj ofc right now the cc decoder box is almost useless tuner-wise .. I still retain it for movie captioning tho
[02:23:06] drac_boy: mattwj...if it wasn't digital I would had still been watching a few random channels on my setup .. why did you think I had to scrap it on september 2011? :)
[02:23:46] mattwj2002: got ya :)
[02:24:02] drac_boy: anyway mattwj I know what you mean about digital tuners being slow...I still remember trying to use a Bell TV channel guide .. I was holding the down button flat down but the dumb guide screen was still being slow to move down one channel at a time x_x
[02:24:04] mattwj2002: digital is great if you have a good signal
[02:24:14] drac_boy: mattwj..thats only half of it
[02:24:20] drac_boy: other half is *having the hardware*
[02:24:24] drac_boy: thats one thing crtc glossed over on
[02:24:24] mattwj2002: true
[02:24:32] mattwj2002: how so?
[02:24:38] drac_boy: I mean .. seriously its 2014 and I still can't find any decent tuner boxes? -_-
[02:24:45] mattwj2002: doh!
[02:25:03] mattwj2002: drac_boy: we are about a year and a half from BBTF day
[02:25:09] mattwj2002: *BTTF
[02:25:25] drac_boy: have you seen all three?
[02:25:32] mattwj2002: and I still don't have a flying car *cries*
[02:25:34] mattwj2002: yes
[02:25:53] drac_boy: good grief. another nut!

[02:26:32] mattwj2002: haha
[02:26:39] drac_boy: mattwj lets see....
[02:27:01] mattwj2002: see what?
[02:27:32] drac_boy: marty, you're not thinking fourth dimensionally! .... holy s**t ... great scott! *clutches chest and passes out* .... english please doc! ... you mean we're in the future?
[02:27:35] ** drac_boy could keep going on :P **
[02:27:45] mattwj2002: lol
[02:27:48] mattwj2002: nerd!
[02:27:52] mattwj2002: I love BTTF
[02:28:10] mattwj2002: what day is BTTF day?
[02:28:16] mattwj2002: no google either!
[02:28:19] drac_boy: there is still one particular scene that scares me even to today tho :/
[02:28:26] mattwj2002: which one?
[02:28:59] drac_boy: alternative 1985, marty standing on edge .. we see him looking down and theres NOTHING there ... suddenly he jumps!
[02:29:05] drac_boy: :-|
[02:29:17] mattwj2002: oh yeah no doubt
[02:29:31] mattwj2002: I almost cried the first time I saw that
[02:29:34] drac_boy: of course it probably was out of the tv view on purpose but when biff went to look .. there was marty standing on top of the delorean's hood
[02:29:58] drac_boy: and heh a really funny part followed ... heavy metal right into biff's chin knocking him out for a moment :P
[02:30:17] mattwj2002: hehe
[02:30:32] drac_boy: anyway I'm going to bed already ... didn't realize this would be so long heh
[02:30:36] drac_boy: bye till another time ok?  :P
[02:30:43] mattwj2002: sounds good ....
[02:30:48] mattwj2002: October 21, 2015 ;)
[02:30:54] mattwj2002: anyways have a good one!
[02:30:58] mattwj2002: see you in the future :P

[17:34:04] Jordack: Question: Does MythTV have the ability to record to one drive then more the recording to another drive automatically? For instance: Record everything to an SSD drive then during low use times move that recording to a slower spindle drive. I think I may be having a drive thrashing issue. Recording get messed up whenever I’m watching one show (on remote frontend) and its recording
[17:34:04] Jordack: 3 other shows.
[17:48:07] ctmjr: why not just have it record to the hdd and not the ssd
[17:51:48] Jordack: it is recording to the hhd now. but I think its tring to read/write more than the io cna handle resulting in bad recordings. recording to the ssd would provide better io for those times there R/W are in high demand

[18:11:42] ctmjr: i think wagnerrp wrote a script to move recordings. but i forget the name of it
[18:12:25] fetzerch (fetzerch!~quassel@unaffiliated/fetzerch) has joined #mythtv-users
[18:22:23] Jordack: yup. I was asking to see if Myth had the ability before I went off to script land. It wouldnt be that hard as long as myth follows sym links when delete and I saw the options, just never played with it
[18:29:51] sphery: Jordack: you're making it far too complicated
[18:31:16] sphery: Jordack: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/535888#535888
[18:32:00] sphery: Jordack: ^^^ will allow you to record to one (or more) locations and then move recordings to other locations at slow times
[18:32:30] sphery: also, as far as I/O thrashing, this is likely to happen if you choose the wrong Storage Group Disk Scheduler (i.e. such as the default one)
[18:32:47] sphery: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Storage_Groups#Sto . . . sk_Scheduler
[18:33:28] sphery: Jordack: ideally, you'll have one file system (and even better, one spindle) per concurrent recording, and you'd use either Combination or Balanced Disk I/O Storage Group Disk Scheduler
[18:34:12] sphery: so if you want to record 3 shows at once while watching Live TV, you'd have 4 file systems (ideally on 4 different disks) and be using Combination or Balanced Disk I/O
[18:34:51] sphery: and if so, you minimize (near eliminate?) the chance of disk I/O issues
[18:36:41] Jordack: i can work with this. I could use a balance recording to the two drives and then script it to move anything from the SSD to the spindle at off hours. No dealing with sym links and advance scripting.
[18:36:47] sphery: basically, a high-bitrate recording is going to be max of 19Mbps, where a HDD should do > 40MBps (i.e. 320Mbps), so as long as you don't have multiple recordings (= seeking to very different parts of the disk) going to the same drive, you're good
[18:37:43] sphery: yeah, with the Archive storage group idea, you're basically just putting into Default Storage Group the dirs to which you want to record, and in Archive Storage Group, you're putting dirs to which you'll move recordings
[18:37:55] Jordack: balance io works too
[18:37:59] zombor_ is now known as zombor
[18:38:18] sphery: and then never specify Archive Storage Group in any recording rules and you'll never record to the directories that exist only in Archive SG
[18:38:32] Jordack: ok i get it. ill do a bit more reading and i think your suggestion is good.
[18:38:33] sphery: yeah
[18:38:44] sphery: Archive shouldn't be necessary if you have enough HDDs
[18:39:35] sphery: usually, you should be able to handle 1–3 high-bitrate recordings at once on a disk without too many problems (assuming sufficient CPU and AHCI and disk bandwidth and such)
[18:40:05] sphery: though aiming to get that number down to 1 recording/ disk gives you the best, most-stable, most-reliable I/O possible
[18:40:15] sphery: (not to mention minimizing disk fragmentation, etc.)
[18:40:46] sphery: and, btw, it's quite possible your current disk is slow because of fragmentation/too-full-state (especially with some file systems like XFS)/or even disk errors
[18:40:55] sphery: check dmesg for disk errors
[18:41:21] sphery: and if that's not an issue, you may want to spend some time looking at disk fragmentation
[18:41:57] sphery: (and if the file system is severely fragmented, you may want to move all recordings off the drive to another location, then delete/reformat the drive, then move them back)
[18:43:06] Jordack: i didnt see any errors on the drive, but i didnt check out the fragmention option.
[18:43:49] sphery: how full is the drive?
[18:44:11] Jordack: half full. so 500gb
[18:44:12] sphery: can check with: df -h
[18:44:26] sphery: probably not yet fragmentation, then
[18:44:46] sphery: unless you'd previously been up nearer 80–90%
[18:45:44] Jordack: think the highest its been is 60% i think better utilizing storage groups will get me fixed

[23:24:01] me__: Help. I'm attempting to restore a database from a previous install on a clean installation of Mythbuntu 12.04 LTS using this as a guide: www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore#Replacing_an_existing_database
[23:24:15] me__: I received these errors in the terminal from this command: http://pastebin.com/pzYfPyjC. The verbose output is here: http://pastebin.com/V2WPxTJ1. This indicates to me that I may have issues with mySql passwords. Can someone please confirm or correct this assumption and point on a way forward?
[23:26:30] zombor_ is now known as zombor
[23:26:58] me__: FWIW, the backup file is about 10MB and contains a ~60MB-ish sql file. When I run BARE from the Mythbuntu control centre, the script throws NO errors and runs to completion in less than a minute
