[02:27:28] Korny: skd5aner: hmmm I've had 0 issues iwth 0.27. The only issue I have I don't even know if its version specific but if I name a front end the same as a previous one I am unable to change the graphics setting unless I delete all references of the frontend in mythconverg
[02:27:51] Korny: KWisher: Have you confirmed they aren't busy?
[02:28:01] KWisher: yes
[02:28:21] KWisher: i have 7 total tuners
[02:28:44] Korny: what tunners?
[02:29:20] KWisher: a mix, hdhr prime, hdhr, and 2 pci dvb's
[02:29:43] KWisher: master & secondary backends
[02:30:02] KWisher: logs show no errors
[02:30:32] wagnerrp: file permissions issues?
[02:31:23] KWisher: this only occurs when i use the mythbuntu ppa, if i rollback to stock .27 the error doesn't appear
[02:31:28] wagnerrp: the "all tuners busy" error more accurately means no tuners available that mythtv thinks it can record on
[02:31:44] wagnerrp: check your backend logs for errors
[02:32:05] skd5aner: KWisher: do you get the problem all the time? what happens if you restart mythbackend and try again...
[02:32:10] KWisher: on the tuner that i only use for livetv all priorities are set to zero
[02:32:16] skd5aner: KWisher: and, do you have any slave backends?
[02:32:37] KWisher: i can only get rid of the error by restarting the backend
[02:32:43] skd5aner: I occassionally get the same error message when mythbackend is messed up
[02:32:53] skd5aner: even though, clearly, all my tuners aren't busy
[02:33:13] KWisher: yes, one slave b
[02:33:14] skd5aner: and, ironically enough, I have a similiar mix of essentially the same tuners
[02:33:30] Korny: I have the same tuners other then the dvb's but only 1 backend
[02:33:53] skd5aner: KWisher: whatever the issue is, I've seen the exact same thing... no clue why though... happens sporadically
[02:34:30] KWisher: i'm about to wipe the system and go back to .26
[02:34:41] skd5aner: lol...
[02:34:47] wagnerrp: check your backend logs
[02:34:55] wagnerrp: or let us check them
[02:34:59] KWisher: wagnerrp: no errors
[02:35:06] wagnerrp: let us look
[02:35:12] skd5aner: KWisher: are you my doppleganger? because you and I are basically in the same boat
[02:35:18] wagnerrp: specifically, the first half minute after startup
[02:35:56] skd5aner: KWisher: and there are known issues with slave backends in 0.27
[02:36:00] KWisher: only thing showing is : Jan 10 21:35:36 dvr mythbackend: mythbackend[12184]: E Expire programinfo.cpp:2358 (GetPlaybackURL) ProgramInfo(2081_20121204010000.mpg): GetPlaybackURL: '2081_20121204010000.mpg' should be local, but it can not be found.
[02:36:16] skd5aner: that just means there's a recording that's been orphaned
[02:36:31] KWisher: see a lot of these but nothing specific to my error
[02:36:35] skd5aner: it was trying to expire the file associated with it and couldn't find it
[02:37:00] wagnerrp: i would like to see logs from backend startup
[02:37:13] Korny: isn't there command to run to delete orphaned files? there used to be
[02:37:19] KWisher: ok, hold on
[02:37:28] skd5aner: Korny: there's a script...
[02:37:34] wagnerrp: you can select them in the frontend, and tell mythtv to force their deletion
[02:37:46] skd5aner: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Find_orphans.py
[02:37:54] wagnerrp: which means, delete their metadata even though you can't find a file, and risk orphaning the file when it shows up again
[02:38:14] Korny: Is there a way in mythfrontend todelete an folder of recordings?
[02:38:34] wagnerrp: well all recordings are in the same folder
[02:38:44] wagnerrp: but you can add several to a playlist, and delete the playlist
[02:38:56] Korny: Can will that physically delete teh file?
[02:39:26] skd5aner: KWisher: how reproducable is the error for you? I find that particular one to be harder to trigger, and seems to be a symptom of greater instability in the backend... if you restart the backend, how long before it creeps up again?
[02:39:26] wagnerrp: not immediately. it will mark it for deletion, and it will be deleted when the backend gets around to it
[02:40:12] skd5aner: Korny: as wagnerrp said, it'll be moved in to the "Deleted" record group first
[02:41:38] skd5aner: wagnerrp: why don't you make a quick trip down the road and troubleshoot my persistant mythtv issues for me... I'll throw in pizza and beer
[02:42:00] Korny: SO I'm in the watch recordings screen
[02:43:16] wagnerrp: i'll actually be driving through that way in late april
[02:43:55] Korny: Do I do "add this group to playlist" when hovering over show name?
[02:43:57] skd5aner: haha – well, it's been driving me insane for the last 3 months, what's another 3?
[02:44:13] wagnerrp: well, maybe about 30mi past that way
[02:44:18] wagnerrp: over in greencastle
[02:44:33] skd5aner: yea... not quite far enough, but close
[02:44:48] wagnerrp: i thought you were in indy
[02:45:07] skd5aner: oh, sorry, I read "Greenfield" haha
[02:46:26] skd5aner: Greenfield is about 30 mins east of Indy, and Greencastle is out in the boonies about 45 mins west of Indy
[02:46:50] skd5aner: and then Greenwood is 10 mins south of Indy
[02:47:03] skd5aner: because... no other colors could be used to name cities
[02:47:33] wagnerrp: well there's a brownsburg
[02:47:38] KWisher: wagnerrp: http://pastebin.com/KmDRJDht
[02:47:57] skd5aner: and whitestown, and whiteland, etc and so on...
[02:48:02] KWisher: i went back to 9 pm est and i seen the error twice
[02:48:58] wagnerrp: that's a lot of autoexpiration
[02:49:02] wagnerrp: looks like something is going nuts
[02:49:40] KWisher: wagnerrp: might as well come to the kokomo area and fix my problem also :)
[02:49:53] wagnerrp: are you sure your recording disk is actually mounted, and you're not trying to record to the root partition?
[02:50:12] KWisher: yes
[02:50:14] wagnerrp: that's the only reason i can think of for mythtv trying to delete your entire video library
[02:50:29] wagnerrp: it's looking at the wrong filesystem, and finding a desperate lack of storage space
[02:51:29] skd5aner: Kwisher: I asked some questions while you were getting the logs, if you can look back an respond I'd be curious... thanks
[02:51:35] wagnerrp: have the logs from the first minute after you started the backend been rolled out of the file?
[02:52:22] skd5aner: Kwisher: ah yea, I sent you PM the other day... haha, you're not "too" far from me
[02:52:23] KWisher: not sure, i've restarted it twice in the last hour
[02:52:32] Korny: So how would I go about deleteing 130 episodes of the TNG lol :/
[02:52:39] wagnerrp: there's nothing before 9PM
[02:53:46] KWisher: yeah, i only went back to 9 pm
[02:54:10] KWisher: i know there's at least one rerstart in there
[02:54:18] skd5aner: a restart would create a new file
[02:54:44] wagnerrp: ah, there is
[02:54:47] wagnerrp: about 40% down
[02:55:33] skd5aner: kisak: so, are you saying that your issue of "all tuners busy" is very easy to reproduce?
[02:55:43] skd5aner: oops, I mean Kwisher
[02:55:47] skd5aner: sorry kisak
[02:55:52] KWisher: here's my recording drive mount from mount -l : /dev/sda4 on /media/mythtv type ext4 (rw)
[02:55:59] kisak: it's all good
[02:56:00] Korny: nm I got it lol
[02:56:07] wagnerrp: the HDHR and two DVB cards are on antenna?
[02:56:26] KWisher: yes, connected to slave b/e
[02:56:53] wagnerrp: this may be an issue... Listings source 'OTA-1' is defined, but is not attached to a card input.
[02:58:11] Korny: Whats the point of slave backends anymore, especially with hd homeruns? Having enough cpu for comflagging? I'm just curious is all
[02:58:33] wagnerrp: if all you're doing is commflagging, use mythjobqueue
[02:58:50] kisak: Korny: go to the playback menu, have TNG selected on the left side and hit '/'to add all the episodes to select the episodes, you can then do actions to all the selected items with the context menu (right twice to see it)
[02:59:21] Korny: kisak: yeah I figured it out, thanks though
[02:59:26] kisak: great ... I just stuttered in irc
[02:59:44] kisak: my brain must have skipped a beat
[03:00:34] KWisher: i think it's getting ready to do it again, f/e becomes real sluggish
[03:01:08] skd5aner: Kwisher: so... sorry to keep asking, but I'm not sure I saw an answer... how reprocable is this? I ask, because I see the same symptoms on random occasions, but you made it sound like this has persisted across mutliple mythbackend restarts??
[03:02:03] skd5aner: KWisher: the watch recording list is slow? is your masterbackend on a different machine than your frontend? Also... what does top or htop show for mythbackend and mysql on your backend during the sluggishness?
[03:02:21] Korny: So will the backend eventually delete the 1 tb of tv shows I just got rid of or will it wait until it needs space?
[03:02:24] KWisher: very reproducable, seems to happen around 15 to 30 mins after a b/e restart
[03:02:49] kisak: Korny: within half an hour
[03:02:54] KWisher: yep, just happened again
[03:03:05] skd5aner: KWisher: hmmmm, that's bad for you... but very intriguing for me... I have a feeling that it's directly related to what I see, only mine is not that reproducable, happens maybe 1–8 times a week

[03:03:49] KWisher: i bet i can't import my .27 db into .26 ??
[03:03:54] skd5aner: Kwisher: when the slugishness happens, do you see MythContext pop up any message on your frontend, such as the backend disconnecting and connecting
[03:03:56] wagnerrp: nope
[03:04:06] skd5aner: KWisher: nope, only restore from backup
[03:04:31] KWisher: skd5aner: yes
[03:04:52] skd5aner: wagnerrp: he's essentially seeing the same major issues I'm seeing
[03:04:56] KWisher: skd5aner: what type of backup?
[03:05:25] wagnerrp: the one made automatically when you upgraded to 0.27
[03:05:29] skd5aner: when you upgrade, myth will attempt to create a backup for you
[03:05:38] skd5aner: of your mysql db
[03:05:46] KWisher: ahhh, ok
[03:06:14] KWisher: and where can i find that backup?

[05:03:13] kusznir: Hi all: I've got some questions about vdpau and transcoding (no, not trancoding using vdpau). Here goes:
[05:03:45] deathadder (deathadder!~no@81.170.94.76) has joined #mythtv-users
[05:04:27] kusznir: I have a recording I wanted to 'archive' by removing all the commertials and such. I made a cutlist, then set to transcode "high quality", as I thought that was the way to do mpeg2->mpeg2 (with commertials cut). Unfortunately, I ended up with a .nuv (it was a mpeg2 from US OTA (HD HomeRun). As best as I can tell, the underlying format is mpeg4 (although I'm still not 100% sure)
[05:05:10] wagnerrp: if you want to perform a lossless cut, there's an option you must set in the transcoding profile options
[05:05:11] kusznir: My hardware is an Nvida ION ITX system with an Atom 230 @ 1.6Ghz (singe core, hypertrheaded)
[05:05:41] zombor (zombor!~zombor__@kohana/developer/zombor) has joined #mythtv-users
[05:05:54] kusznir: When I went to play back the file, I ended up unable to do so (massive stuttering). Logging in and watching top, I see a 100% cpu load. MPEG2 file played with about 12% cpu load.
[05:06:24] kusznir: I tried to create a transcode profile to move it back to mpeg2, but my only video codec options are RTJPG and MPEG4.
[05:06:49] wagnerrp: mythtv can only internally transcode to MPEG4 ASP, and RTJPEG
[05:06:59] kusznir: I'm also confused, as my research indicates VDPAU should be able to handle MPEG4 (and many common sub-varieties), yet as far as I can tell, it isn't.
[05:07:06] wagnerrp: when you're doing a lossless cut, you're technically not transcoding to mpeg2
[05:07:19] wagnerrp: you're just leaving it as mpeg2, and cleaning up a handful of frames around the cuts
[05:07:40] wagnerrp: VDPAU can handle both MPEG4 AVC and MPEG4 ASP
[05:07:44] kusznir: So if I go to my video profiles option in myth settings, trancoders section, and create a new one called "lossless" and check the box "lossless", then it should just cut?
[05:07:48] wagnerrp: but you have an older blend of it that does not support ASP
[05:07:57] wagnerrp: yes
[05:08:15] kusznir: What would I get as an output file if I hit either "high quality" or "Auto Detect" with the default transcoder settings in myth?
[05:08:30] wagnerrp: probably mpeg4 asp
[05:08:43] wagnerrp: i do not believe any of the default transcoding profiles are configured to operate losslessly
[05:09:01] kusznir: No, they were not unfortunately :(
[05:09:34] kusznir: I have successfully played back some video files I created on other computers with handbrake that are labeled as ".mkv". I take it those are AVC?
[05:09:49] wagnerrp: no clue
[05:09:53] wagnerrp: mkv is a container format
[05:09:55] wagnerrp: like avi
[05:10:11] kusznir: (or is there a command line command I can run to tell me what the actual video formats/codecs used in a file?
[05:10:13] wagnerrp: mpeg2 and mpeg4 also define container formats, in addition to one or more video formats
[05:10:33] wagnerrp: mythffmpeg -i filename
[05:10:39] DavidBrooke (DavidBrooke!~DavidBroo@c-69-180-207-35.hsd1.tn.comcast.net) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[05:10:43] wagnerrp: mpeginfo is better if you've got that installed
[05:11:00] wagnerrp: not mpeginfo... videoinfo
[05:11:08] wagnerrp: mediainfo
[05:11:10] wagnerrp: that's the one
[05:12:36] kusznir: Don't appear to have mediainfo installed (using LinHES distro). I ran the mythffmpeg -i and I'm not seeing how to extract the critical info. I think its in this line: Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 1920x1088, PAR 136:135 DAR 16:9, 29.97 tbr, 1k tbn, 1k tbc
[05:12:36] ** MythLogBot http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/0 **
[05:13:08] wagnerrp: probably mpeg4 avc, also known as h264
[05:13:42] wagnerrp: h264 is playable by the hardware decoders on your ION
[05:13:48] kusznir: Is there a command line transcode that I can use to minimize loss and convert it into something my myth (vdpau) can play?
[05:14:27] wagnerrp: ffmpeg/mythffmpeg is a command line transcoder, but it's a bit clumsy to use
[05:14:28] kusznir: BTW: I also tried to play this file using mplayer (on the myth hardware), and got a big fat warning that my hardware was too slow to play this video file. It did list "vdpau" as the output device, but still pegged the CPU and the video frames got WAY behind the audio.
[05:14:44] wagnerrp: VDPAU is both an output device and a video decoder
[05:14:56] wagnerrp: you can use VDPAU the output device without using VDPAU the decoder
[05:15:08] kusznir: I've had very little success figuring out the magic command line options for ffmpeg to do useful transcoding.
[05:15:10] kusznir: Ok.
[05:15:38] wagnerrp: Video Decode and Presentation API for UNIX
[05:15:49] kusznir: Myth is configured as vdpau as the only output device (for some reason, I have two stages, first is >720 pixels, use vdpau, the second is all use vdpau, the settings appear pretty much the same.
[05:15:59] wagnerrp: basically, it was using VDPAU as an alternative to opengl or xv
[05:16:12] kusznir: Myth plays back every file on it I have, except this one, which myth created through a transcode.
[05:16:15] wagnerrp: the difference is the deinterlacing filters
[05:16:42] wagnerrp: the decoding is performed through an ASIC on the chip, but the deinterlacing is performed by the graphics shaders
[05:16:56] wagnerrp: it's a weak graphics chip, so it has weak shaders
[05:17:06] wagnerrp: at higher resolutions, you have to use a less intensive filter
[05:17:33] kusznir: Which filter should I be using? I looked through the list, but it wasn't clear to me which were more or less intensive.
[05:17:52] wagnerrp: either VDPAU Lite or VDPAU Normal
[05:18:26] kusznir: Oh, I think I was looking at the deinterlacer.
[05:18:51] wagnerrp: those profiles are different only in their selection of deinterlacer
[05:21:13] kusznir: Ok, I got mediainfo installed on another machine and ran it on the roughly 1/2 of the file that has copied over. It says under Format settings, Matrix that it is Default (H.263) and format is listed as MPEG-4 Visual
[05:24:00] kusznir: Thanks for all the help. Would you happen to know of the magic incantation for mythffmpeg to convert that file to something playable by my hardware?
[05:24:16] wagnerrp: not off hand. you'll probably find an easier time with handbrake

[18:14:50] tonsofpcs: the closest things we have here that I'm aware of is the nightly news programs that often show as a repeat of the same episode every night since the 1970s
[18:15:07] tonsofpcs: but they're never repeats so if you want to record them all, you just tell it to record them all

[20:35:19] wagnerrp: what's the longest show you're likely to watch live, like some sporting event?
[20:35:24] isaaclw: tonsofpcs: sometimes I'll download a twitch stream, or a youtube video of an event that happened on a specific day. It's not a Movie, so I don't want it on the movies section, cluttering them up, and it doesn't have a season/episode number so it gets messy if it's in the tv section. Is there any way I can group these other clips by month or something?
[20:36:01] dashs: wagnerrp: mebbe 32 gb
[20:36:13] wagnerrp: double that
[20:36:25] dashs: thanks
[20:36:33] wagnerrp: why ask?
[20:37:16] dashs: This is only for the (very occasional) live tv surfing episode.
[20:37:35] wagnerrp: right. why not just let it fall in the standard recording directory?
[20:39:40] dashs: I'm getting lots of Ringbuf (waited xx for data ) messages mostly on livetv, wanted to see what would happen if it were on a fast filesys
[20:39:50] wagnerrp: pause for a second, and then resume
[20:40:09] dashs: Some kind of syncing jive?
[20:40:33] wagnerrp: just livetv getting too close to live
[20:40:54] wagnerrp: and the buffering logic not being sufficiently fine grained to allow it
