[00:55:42] HopelesslyLost: A question about the infrared remote – I've been trying to get KEY_BACK to execute "Esc" for weeks... I've put a simple lircrc in /home/mythtv/.mythtv, in /etc/lirc, in ~/.mythtv/lircrc – but it never seems to have any effect. I installed lirc (which killed the remote entirely) and uninstalled it (which brought it back). ir-keytable showed that KEY_BACK was recognized... Any suggestions? Thanks very much!

[01:23:26] clever: HopelesslyLost: install and start lirc, then run ircat, does it print KEY_BACK when you hit back?
[01:24:01] HopelesslyLost: I think lirc is now part of the mythtv distribution. I don't have to do anything to get left/right/up/down to work with my IR remote... Yes, it prints KEY_BACK when I hit back
[01:24:47] HopelesslyLost: I tried that, then uninstalled lirc so I could get my ir remote back.
[01:25:02] clever: and what did you add to ~/.mythtv/lircrc ?
[01:26:14] HopelesslyLost: # test 2013-11–20 begin prog = mythtv button = KEY_BACK config = Esc end begin prog = mythtv # Red key – D for Delete button = KEY_RED config = D end begin prog = mythtv # This is the Green key – Teletext/closed captioning button = KEY_GREEN config = T end begin prog = mythtv button = KEY_OK config = Return end

[01:26:37] clever: try removing the prog= line
[01:26:47] clever: it doesnt need it when the file is only loaded by myth
[01:27:49] HopelesslyLost: Will it work as /etc/lirc/lircrc? Or must it be ~/.mythtv/lircrc ?
[01:28:14] clever: i think it will work best in ~/.mythtv
[01:29:05] HopelesslyLost: thanks for your patience... Do I need to reboot?

[01:29:16] clever: just restart mythfrontend

[01:36:08] clever: just /etc/init.d/lirc to stop it
[01:42:05] HopelesslyLost: Right... Anyway, "ir-keytable -t" reported that the key was KEY_EXIT. So I edited ~/.mythtv/lircrc to fix that... but still no reaction. And no reaction to the red or green keys

[04:13:08] clever: HopelesslyLost: and lircd is running at that socket?

[16:21:23] mad_enz: you want to migrate your backend to your notebook?
[16:21:42] martin____-: no, i want to use the backend on the laptop
[16:21:56] martin____-: i want to use the tv stream on my notebook
[16:22:21] martin____-: an the source should be the backend from the pc
[16:22:25] martin____-: is this possible?
[16:22:32] Merlin83b: Run a frontend on your notebook.
[16:22:55] martin____-: so i can remove the backend on the notebook?
[16:23:44] Merlin83b: If you've installed it, then yes. It would have been better to only install the frontend on the notebook to start with :)
[16:23:56] martin____-: ah ok
[16:24:17] martin____-: and on the notebook i have to tell the fronted to use the mysql from the pc?
[16:24:22] Merlin83b: Then during setup you need to give it the IP address and database...
[16:24:23] Merlin83b: Yes :)
[16:24:34] Merlin83b: After that it should just run!
[16:24:46] Kwisher: anyone using a hdhomerun atsc tuner?
[16:28:34] mad_enz: Kwisher: yes. I have the original 2 port grey version
[16:29:21] Kwisher: i just bought one from ebay, not here yet
[16:29:37] Kwisher: do you still scan like other atsc tuners?
[16:29:59] martin____-: hm I can't connect to the mysql server
[16:30:17] martin____-: the mythtv user allows connections from localhost and % so it should work
[16:31:11] [R]: Kwisher: no, it figures it out magically
[16:31:31] Kwisher: cool, any firmware needed?
[16:32:03] [R]: there are tons of forums and mailing lists

[16:35:02] Kwisher: [R]: are you being a smarta$$?
[16:35:19] Kwisher: not very helpful :(
[16:36:04] [R]: no... there is a myth wiki
[16:36:07] [R]: that esxaplsxin eveyhitg you need
[16:36:26] Kwisher: i just asked a simple question
[16:37:13] mad_enz: Kwisher: u only need to scan if you don't have a schedule direct subscription (iirc)
[16:37:33] Kwisher: mad_enz: got that
[16:38:17] Merlin83b: martin____-: Try from another mysql client (command line is as simple as it gets) and see if you can connect.
[16:38:29] mad_enz: Kwisher: I am a "don't fix if it's not broken" person when it comes to hardware, so run it as it is and upgrade the firmware if you have issues
[16:39:09] mad_enz: Kwisher: i have not upgraded my firmware in at least a year

[19:42:28] buu: If you pause a live tv show, it records it
[19:42:40] [R]: buu: its always recording
[19:42:44] [R]: you dont have to pause
[19:42:49] buu: Same difference

[19:45:36] qu: ... and a netflix.png in several directories. (which you have also)
[19:46:37] qu: But every time I start the frontend it's upset that NetFlix is not compatible with Myth. This didn't happen with 0.26.
[19:52:58] mad_enz: qu: start the frontend from the cli and see what in the error msg
[19:53:24] qu: mad_enz: Good idea. Have to do it tinight though. Thanks.

[21:41:31] wagnerrp_: it never supported netflix instant
[21:41:34] wagnerrp_ is now known as wagnerrp
[21:46:04] wagnerrp: it's worth noting that netflix instant uses silverlight, and thus is outside our ability to offer on linux/mythtv
[21:46:37] mengo: even with moonlight or whatever that mono project is called
[21:47:01] [R]: moonlight never supported the DRM
[21:47:10] mengo: indeed
[21:48:02] wagnerrp: that's the bittersweet consequence of HTML5
[21:48:29] wagnerrp: HTML5 means we get to get rid of awful flash, but it also means the last DRM format we can actually access will be gone
[21:48:40] mengo: anyone got something to say on bitmap subtitles?
[21:49:09] wagnerrp: being able to use them is so much nicer than trying to OCR them into text?
[21:49:28] mengo: ok, so how do you use them?
[21:50:07] wagnerrp: i think the default key is 't'
[21:50:13] wagnerrp: or you can enable them through the 'm' menu
[21:50:30] mengo: you just dump the png files with the video?
[21:50:52] wagnerrp: no, i leave them in the video
[21:51:10] mengo: ah, I loose them when I re-encode my videos
[21:51:19] wagnerrp: so stop that
[21:51:38] mengo: Im unlikely to do that
[21:52:11] mengo: oh well, just something new I'm playing with
[21:52:12] wagnerrp: the only real reason to re-encode your video is if you want to use them on mobile devices
[21:52:58] mengo: my main reason is for archiving off my hd
[21:53:38] wagnerrp: archiving to what?
[21:53:45] mengo: cd / dvd
[21:53:51] mengo: yes, I did say cd

[21:54:54] mengo: my cd/dvd archive has been fairly reliable
[21:55:08] wagnerrp: and yet painful to ever use
[21:55:08] mengo: less so with dual layer dvd's
