[00:05:09] JennieL: Hi. I'm in MythTV frontend, v0_26. Commercial detection is simply not working on a couple of recordings. I want to completely disable it. In the UI, afaict, I can only select from various comm detect/slip methods — but how do I completely DISABLE it?
[00:05:23] bill6502: Qwazz: Yes, look at line 52 in the backend log you pasted:
[00:05:52] bill6502: Oct 25 11:53:34 Isys-Media mythbackend: mythbackend[2328]: ...: Group 'Videos' wants to use directory '/media/Media Drive/Review/Downloads/', but this directory is not writeable.
[00:06:30] Qwazz: Oh, so what do i need to do, to make it rightable?
[00:06:45] Qwazz: chmod a+g=rwx?
[00:09:14] Qwazz: I must be looking at the wrong thing, could I you send me the link, are you refering to bill6502 generated script all the undue long one?
[00:10:09] ctmjr: JennieL, on the frontend /setup/video/playback page 8 of 8 first line
[00:11:29] Qwazz: I mean, can I rerun ./RecentLogs?
[00:12:33] bill6502: as often as you like
[00:13:02] JennieL: ctmjr: Hi. Sorry, not sure how to get at that. I launch the Frontend, and my options are "TV/Videos/Setup". I select Setup, then ???
[00:13:05] Qwazz: So what do I need to get backend happily sharing whatever media device/content is conected to it?
[00:14:00] wagnerrp: the device needs to be mounted, the directory needs to be defined in the Videos storage group, and the Video Library needs to scan it
[00:15:06] Qwazz: The device is mounted, I have placed it's path in the videos directory in setup and the scan can pick-up some of the videos
[00:15:42] wagnerrp: just some? not all?
[00:16:22] ctmjr: JennieL, then select Video then select playback then hit next till you get to page 8 it is the first line
[00:16:34] JennieL: There is no 'Video'
[00:16:56] JennieL: found it /setup/TV Settings/playback

[00:21:49] Qwazz: Frontend installed and seem to have come up with the settings of the previous installation vis IP address and password.
[00:22:31] oobe: Qwazz, when you uninstall software in ubuntu/debian it leaves the old configs behind
[00:22:39] oobe: check ~/.mythtv/config.xml
[00:22:44] Qwazz: No video library displayed, so what am I to do with line 52?
[00:22:55] wagnerrp: apparently graphics cards these days come with lots of stickers and wall posters
[00:23:03] Qwazz: oobe: Hi :-).
[00:23:09] oobe: hi Qwazz
[00:23:23] bill6502: Qwazz: you asked about: /var/lib/mythtv/videos, but you Videos Storage Group has (or also has) /media/Media Drive/Review/Download in it.
[00:23:54] oobe: also for future refererence if you uninstall something with the intention of wiping its old configurations you can use apt-get purge mythtv-frontend insead of remove that will wipe the old configs
[00:24:27] wagnerrp: "the evga geforce gtx700 series graphics is a cutting edge card that ships with the latest technology, including a full uefi bios"
[00:24:36] wagnerrp: hold on... i thought uefi was a system board thing
[00:24:42] wagnerrp: why would a graphics card have anything to do with it?
[00:25:08] Qwazz: bill6502: yes, there are no videos on /var/lib/mythtv/videos/ because I installed the OS on a separate 500GD HDD adn the videos files on a another /internal HDD, media drive/downlaods is an external.
[00:25:19] disputin (disputin!~sean@65.102.58.17) has quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[00:25:30] Qwazz: oobe: What am I looking for in xml.config?
[00:25:49] oobe: depends what you want to chaneg in config.xml
[00:26:09] oobe: like what is wrong it cant find the host or doesnt know the correct passord?
[00:26:22] ctmjr: selling point? kinda like Gluten free
[00:26:27] oobe: I guess wagnerrp cards are getting more and more feature rich and have their own bios now
[00:26:29] Qwazz: Where exactly is it again?
[00:26:42] oobe: ~/.mythtv/config.xml
[00:27:15] oobe: it could also be in /etc/mythtv
[00:27:51] Qwazz: oobe: I suppose you mean on the newly installed frontend?
[00:28:09] oobe: also instead of making multiple storage groups you could try symlinking other folders into the one storage group folder to simplicity
[00:28:18] oobe: yea I did mean that Qwazz on the frontend
[00:28:36] Qwazz: or solving the storage directory issue bill6502 is helping me resolving?
[00:30:16] Qwazz: I've looked at the file both client and master and cannot see what I'd wanto change, IP address is correct and so is the port.
[00:32:15] Qwazz: I think that's exactly what I'd like to do. How do I do it? seem link to the /var/lib/mythtv/videos directory I think would be best.
[00:32:56] oobe: symlinking is done in linux like making a short cut but the filesystem treats it as if its really a complete path
[00:33:19] oobe: ln -s /path/to/folder /path/to/new/place is an example
[00:33:36] Qwazz: So go into /var/lib/mythtv/videos and create short cuts the folders in gui?
[00:34:45] Qwazz: oh wait that sounds like I need to know that command, so for example I have /media/Media Drive/Review/Downlaods for examaple and want it simlinked to /var/lib/mythtv videos?
[00:34:59] bill6502: Qwazz: to be clear, the Video Storage Group is on you master backend correct. And you want to store you videos in /var/lib/mythtv/videos, so that should be the only directory in the Videos Storage Group. No need for a symlink
[00:35:39] Qwazz: Yes, that's what I want to do but have no videos in /var/lib/mythtv/videos
[00:36:20] bill6502: Do you have videos stored somewhere else?
[00:36:47] Qwazz: Yes.
[00:37:20] bill6502: Is that /media/Media Drive/Review/Download?
[00:37:28] Qwazz: on separate HDD in the system and a removable HDD both mounted at /media/ by the system
[00:37:52] Qwazz: Yes it bill6502
[00:37:57] Qwazz: Yes it is.
[00:38:12] [R] ([R]!~rbox@unaffiliated/rbox) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:39:17] bill6502: Then your Videos Storage Group is set up correctly. The directory just isn't writeble, as the log entry said. There's nothing wrong with that, if you never intend for the user mythtv to write anything there.
[00:40:04] Qwazz: Not sure I understand, how do I make them writable to mythtv?
[00:40:38] bill6502: sudo chown mythtv:mythtv /media/Media Drive/Review/Downlaods
[00:41:02] Qwazz: and then only have /var/lib/mythtv/videos in the storgage directory as opposed to what I have now, where I have mapped to them in video storage directory in setup.
[00:42:31] bill6502: if you want them in /media/Media Drive/Review/Downlaods, then that's the only directory needed in the Videos Storage Group. Which you already have.
[00:43:27] Qwazz: But it's empty
[00:43:59] bill6502: We're going in circles. Where are the videos right now?
[00:44:00] Qwazz: how does changing owner make it accessible to mythtvbackend to share as it should.
[00:45:38] Qwazz: I only want the /var/lib/directory really and everything else /Media/Drive. etc are connected to that folder sold all their content can be shared.
[00:47:58] bill6502: OK, so right now, you have no videos? And, we are discussing Videos, not Recordings.
[00:48:05] Qwazz: The videos are in /media/Media Drive/Review/Downloads and /media/BLKID[not the drive with the OS]/Videos – There's nothing in /var/lib/mythtv
[00:49:01] Qwazz: yes videos not recordings. The drive with the OS to to be left largely epmty to accomodate recordings. Videos are on 1 internal and 1 external HDD.
[00:49:50] Qwazz: sorry the full path for the other is /media/BLKID/var/lib/mythtv/videos/
[00:50:15] Qwazz: So, I'm not chowning, am I?
[00:51:02] Qwazz: And that's why I though simlinks were sounding like the solution?
[00:51:32] bill6502: OK, then the Videos Storage Group should have those two directories in it. You'd chown the directories if you want the user mythtv to be able to write to the directories.
[00:52:47] bill6502: Nothing wrong with symlinks, it just doesn't sound like you need them. You're storing the videos in 2 directories and if both directories are in the Videos Storage Group, then MythTV can see them.
[00:52:50] Qwazz: So I have put them in video storage directories already, so now I only need chown them and mythbackend will auto pickup and share.
[00:54:21] bill6502: Seems that I don't understand what "share" means in this case. Does something else need access to the videos?
[00:54:37] Qwazz: Yes, other frontends.
[00:55:16] bill6502: No need for that. The frontends 'talk' to the backend and it knows where the files are.
[00:55:30] Qwazz: What;s the synatax for chown sudo chown [folder] to [user]?
[00:55:47] Hydr0p0nX: sudo chown user:group folder
[00:56:57] Qwazz: okay, so it;s hard for me to corroborate. I am having a nighatmarish fonrtend install experience and I seem to be missing something cause I have added the directories in setup and now wanted to address line 52 in logs?
[00:57:27] Hydr0p0nX: whoa
[00:57:41] Hydr0p0nX: what directories did you add where ?
[00:57:46] Qwazz: so change [user]: chnage [group]
[00:58:20] Qwazz: In Mythtv setup I pointed to the directories containing video files.
[00:58:36] Hydr0p0nX: we're talking about the backend setup, right?
[00:58:58] bill6502: line 52 in your (much) earlier pastebin was complaining that the directory couldn't be written to. (/media/Media Drive/Review/Downloads)
[00:59:46] Hydr0p0nX: seeing how i've been dippin' in the mustard and have yet to ketchup, i'll shutup for the time being :)
[01:00:00] Qwazz: Right, so do I just chmod a+g=rwx it?
[01:01:24] bill6502: that's ok, assuming the owner/group are correct too. the command I pasted 19 minutes ago changed the owner/group:
[01:01:25] bill6502: sudo chown mythtv:mythtv /media/Media Drive/Review/Downlaods
[01:02:03] Qwazz: command complains, cannot access 'mythtv'
[01:02:28] bill6502: you are doing this on the backend right?
[01:02:34] Qwazz: yes
[01:03:15] bill6502: and you cut and pasted exactly what I suggested?
[01:03:32] Qwazz: I think so:
[01:04:13] Qwazz: sudo chown mythtv:mythtv /media/Media Drive/Review/Downloads
[01:04:35] bill6502: Ah, that path has a space in it
[01:04:56] Qwazz: says chown: cannot access 'mythtv;: No such file or directory.
[01:05:03] bill6502: so: sudo chown mythtv:mythtv /media/Media\ Drive/Review/Downloads
[01:05:05] Qwazz: yes "Media Drive"
[01:06:34] Qwazz: No such file or directory
[01:07:11] bill6502: cd /media/Media\ Drive
[01:08:14] bill6502: Qwazz: does that work ^^^
[01:08:21] Qwazz: Not doing it
[01:08:51] Qwazz: even when i copy it in terminal and paste it if doesn't work, something's odd.
[01:09:02] ctmjr: because you have a space in /media/Media Drive/Review/Downloads you need to add "/media/Media Drive/Review/Downloads"
[01:09:15] Qwazz: I ls /media than I copy, type cd [paste]
[01:10:10] Qwazz: okay it works with " "
[01:10:19] Qwazz: I've cd into it.
[01:10:46] bill6502: ls -ld Review/Downloads
[01:11:39] Qwazz: drwxr-xr-x 198 mythtv mythtv 24576 Oct...
[01:12:53] bill6502: nothing wrong with that, looking back at your pastebin http://paste.ubuntu.com/6302957/
[01:13:01] Qwazz: Does that mean I've chowned it?
[01:14:19] bill6502: It means it's OK now. But it wasn't in the pastebin. Next time you look at your log, the error shouldn't be there.
[01:14:19] Qwazz: well line 52 does say something about it not being writable.
[01:14:28] Qwazz: Oh, ok.
[01:15:31] bill6502: Unless mythbackend is also getting confused with the space in the path. I've never done that.

[01:15:36] Qwazz: That's the old log. Now to the nightmare remote frontend install, and to check that the frontend is indeed sharing all content
[01:16:46] Hydr0p0nX: as long as your backend is configured to listen on something other than localhost, the front end shouldn't be that bad
[01:16:56] Qwazz: The install included a whole other Mysql, left root password blank and said to use will use with other machine.

[01:17:49] Qwazz: It is at the moment, I could pull out my hair, sudo apt-get update suddendly has broken paths medibuntu amongst others,
[01:18:59] Qwazz: it was respwaning, as the previous, no videos coming through and it said no tv tuners configures, that's when it wasn't busy hanging... :-(
[01:19:41] tgm4883: Qwazz, medibuntu doesn't exist anymore
[01:20:46] Qwazz: Great, so why's it even coming up and autoremove or clean doesn't clear it – and so that'snot related to why the newly installed frontend isn't working?

[01:23:18] Qwazz: mythtv-backend start/running, process 2494
[01:24:29] bill6502: on your new remote frontend, you have a backend runing. what does: mythfrontend --version say, just the line that starts with: MythTV Version : v0.
[01:25:01] Qwazz: I think so too, which is why I was asking how do to do frontend only installation. Installed through softwatre centre – came with a backend and was the wrong schema, I sudo get purge mythtv* and autoremove, then added the 0.27 PPA update, and the apt-get update
[01:25:59] bill6502: mythfrontend --version please
[01:26:57] Qwazz: get install mythtv, but it also brought mysql with it. Opened F/E gave it backend IP address and mythcinverg password, no videos, no tuner it says and that's when it not hang the he#% out of my frustration.

[01:28:54] tgm4883: why are we removing the backend?
[01:29:24] bill6502: he's trying to install a remote FE. The BE is on another host and working.
[01:29:39] Qwazz: It's not needed but as indicated I simply wont run it but with things re-spawning themselves I wonder.

[01:40:07] tgm4883: bill6502, will removing a backend would just be apt-get remove mythtv-backend, but I'm not entirely sure what exactly we're removing. Is it on a frontend?

[01:43:48] Qwazz: last line reads: ureadahead will be reprofiled on next reboot
[01:44:08] tgm4883: ok, do you need ureadahead to be reprofiled?

[01:44:37] Qwazz: Don't what it is, so I guess not?

[01:45:51] Qwazz: That'd be a good bet, and that's why I am in love with this thing...
[01:46:07] bill6502: so what's the frontend doing now?
[01:46:18] bill6502: mythfrontend that is
[01:47:26] Qwazz: The bit that's not so nice is hassling others, to help fix a mess I made, in all fairness I didn't even think I was even at the territory where I should be having challenges with basic functionality as an ordinary user.

[01:49:12] Qwazz: Tv good :-), Yay!!! Yay!!! Yay!!! :-).
[01:50:32] Qwazz: So know, to install the other F/E's I'll have to add 0.27 PAA, install the whole mythpack and then sudo remove the backend?
[01:52:50] Qwazz: All in All I am :-) :-), so untill I break something else or want to do something that's not on the internet, keep up the good work – gonna get a few hours zzz's catch F1 and look forward to finishing my first round, so far so good – TY :-). Later.

[05:16:36] Qwazz: I am using a Happauge PVR-150 for analogue (tuner) OTA channels, then I have setup a network recorder too. What must I clarify?
[05:16:39] ** parann0yed recording simultaneously on one tuner **
[05:16:49] [R]: Qwazz: huh?
[05:17:00] [R]: parann0yed: do you have an actual question?
[05:17:25] Qwazz: Well I think the card may provide for encoding but otherwise the these are http streams
[05:18:24] ** parann0yed yes, I am using firewire and it works great for one recording. i understand i can record simultaneously from the same tuner if the channels have the same mplexid **
[05:18:42] Qwazz: Yes, the questions is; can I do anything about the network recorder crashing with "failed to read first 2048 bytes most commonly". Analogue seems to be working fine.
[05:19:01] ** parann0yed but i don't see the option in tuner setup to set number of simultaneous recordings, so i wonder if it is possible with firewire **
[05:19:35] [R]: you can't do that on firewire
[05:19:43] [R]: only dvb
[05:20:04] [R]: Qwazz: if you found a bug in myth, make a bug report
[05:20:19] ** parann0yed ok, i figured i was sol... **
[05:21:23] ** parann0yed i'll research dvb, or just get another tuner and plug another firewire cable in. thanks for the answer. **
[05:22:09] [R]: i dobut your firewire device lets you plug multiple thigns into it
[05:22:16] [R]: and then gives you multiple tuners
[05:22:23] Qwazz: How do I know if it's a bug? Whether it's been filed already? etc? And then How do I submit a bug? Which I don't think it is. I think either my router needs a particular setting or I need change parametres somewhere for the handling of IP streams.
[05:22:35] [R]: its all on the website
[05:22:47] [R]: your using a remote tuner?
[05:22:55] ** parann0yed i have two firewire ports. would i still be limited? **
[05:23:19] [R]: parann0yed: i've never heeard of a cable box that gives you 2 tuners over firewire
[05:24:06] ** parann0yed that's why i said i might rent another tuner if i want to record more than one show at a time... **
[05:24:10] wagnerrp: you don't have to type "/me" every time you speak

[05:24:28] wagnerrp: why would you bother with firewire?
[05:24:31] wagnerrp: just get a cablecard tuner

[05:26:33] wagnerrp: you can also hit the "record" button while viewing it to mark it for long term storage
[05:26:33] Qwazz: On F/E or BE?
[05:26:37] parann0yed: firewire was easy to use
[05:26:44] parann0yed: and it works great...
[05:27:12] parann0yed: i used to use hauppauge 350 cards...
[05:27:33] wagnerrp: a cablecard tuner lets you record multiple things with a single cablecard
[05:27:44] wagnerrp: and easily pays for itself by not having the expensive monthly rental of a cable box
[05:27:45] parann0yed: hmm
[05:28:07] wagnerrp: the card itself supports up to 6 channels
[05:28:12] parann0yed: can you tell me a brand of cablecard so i can look in to it?
[05:28:18] wagnerrp: the specific cablecard tuner might have 2, 3, or four tuners
[05:28:38] [R]: wagnerrp: we all know 'it fails for itself' never quite works out... its like that episode of i love lucy... where ricky wanted the fridge to call them when it was done paying for itself

[05:28:52] wagnerrp: bottom of the second paragraph http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Cablecard
[05:28:57] parann0yed: i've got comcast...thought i needed a tuner to watch tv
[05:29:11] [R]: you do... and a cablecard tuner is a tuner
[05:29:12] parann0yed: ok...i'll look
[05:29:18] wagnerrp: right now, your cable box is effectively functioning as a cablecard tuner
[05:29:28] wagnerrp: if you cracked the thing open, you would find a cablecard
[05:29:35] [R]: i can see my cablecard
[05:29:40] [R]: and its got this little green tape on it
[05:29:48] [R]: aparently to prevent me from removing it
[05:29:54] parann0yed: so if i got one of those i could pick up any channels provided by comcast?
[05:30:05] wagnerrp: any channels you can currently get over firewire
[05:30:16] wagnerrp: typically, everything but the premiums
[05:30:26] parann0yed: cool
[05:30:39] parann0yed: mostly for me it's the sports channels i want
[05:30:51] parann0yed: and things like pbs
[05:31:01] Qwazz: Got it. Sweet!
[05:31:19] ** wagnerrp heads to bed **

[05:43:51] parann0yed: sure...
[05:44:33] parann0yed: sometimes i use freenx if i want my desktop
[05:45:19] parann0yed: so i just started using mythtv again. but i can't run remote frontends reliably over wifi
[05:45:31] [R]: of course not
[05:45:44] parann0yed: unless i record in standard def, then it almost works
[05:46:30] parann0yed: but even over the supposed wired network it's very choppy...because i'm forced to use powerline adapters in our townhome

[09:16:23] oobe: able you wish to replace then restore that partial backup you made.
[09:21:50] oobe: actually it would make more sense to do a full backup now (just to be safe) then get the backup you want the tables from and restore it to a different database name like mc2 then dump just the table/s you want to a sql then drop the tables you want to retore in mythconverg and restore the sql dump if it fails which it probably wont u still have a current backup.
[09:22:59] oobe: hope that makes sense.

[15:49:00] Kwisher: the backend is what runs the process so you will need to turn it off there
[15:49:55] Kwisher: that will kill the process from running so no comm's will be flagged
[15:50:20] Kwisher: you can test after making the changes in the be
