[00:00:25] Blue1: for cable I am using cable irc (and that worked before) for ota I am using terristerial (sp)
[00:00:55] wagnerrp: try just standard cable, qam256 for cable, 8vsb for terrestrial
[00:01:03] Blue1: yes I have tried both
[00:01:37] Blue1: the cable irc (qam 256) finds some channels, but not all — any of the atsc channels causes issues for mythtv
[00:01:47] Blue1: when I try to tune them in
[00:02:26] Blue1: iow – channels with an underscore like 4_1 wont work (with cable) but channels with a – like 93–29 are tunable
[00:03:19] wagnerrp: how recently have you tried those channels on windows?
[00:03:40] wagnerrp: comcast has started encrypting the local channels on cable
[00:03:59] wagnerrp: and anything with a proper VCID is going to be a local broadcast channel
[00:04:54] Blue1: ahh how did you know I was on comcast?

[00:06:18] Blue1: but why can my hdtv get the clear channels, and mythtv can;t?
[00:06:46] wagnerrp: well that's what i was going for, some other recent test that confirmed those channels were still available
[00:07:00] Blue1: yes they are.
[00:08:45] Blue1: is there something in mythtv (maybe a config file) that does NOT get reset, when you reset the database (drop database in mysql)
[00:09:27] wagnerrp: nope. that's all there is
[00:11:38] Blue1: its all I knew how to do....
[00:15:39] Blue1: thanks — I will try to rethink this -but I am running out of ideas pdq...

[00:31:54] wagnerrp: is it possible mythbackend is starting before the USB drivers have finished loading?
[00:32:11] wagnerrp: on the first run at boot, the device nodes are not yet available
[00:32:21] wagnerrp: if you subsequently restart it, the devices nodes are ready for use
[00:32:27] jm|laptop: I've just updated to 0.27. Power searches that have an apostrophe in the search phrase seem to be upsetting the scheduler ...
[00:32:48] twiggy2cents_: hmm If one of my usb tuners works(diff brand) but the other two that have the issue dont, could that still be the case
[00:32:49] jm|laptop: e.g. program.title like "%10 O'Clock Live%"
[00:33:13] twiggy2cents_: Sorry I meant reboot the pc not just mythtv
[00:33:28] wagnerrp: if you reboot the PC, the tuner works fine on the next boot?
[00:34:02] twiggy2cents_: Yes. It seems like it is random
[00:34:23] wagnerrp: i'm still willing to bet something flaky with the device or driver
[00:34:29] twiggy2cents_: If I were to replace the crap usb tuners with something else what should i get. I need at least 3 tuners
[00:34:41] ** wagnerrp doesn't like USB **
[00:35:15] twiggy2cents_: It is a ati 600 HD USB. I have two of those and they both did it. That makes me think something driver related
[00:35:24] twiggy2cents_: I meant non USB replacement
[00:35:28] twiggy2cents_: OTA
[00:35:41] wagnerrp: i just bought a second HDHR to fill in some conflicts, was like $70
[00:36:08] twiggy2cents_: How many tuners is that?
[00:36:14] wagnerrp: two
[00:36:43] wagnerrp: no, $80

[00:37:24] twiggy2cents_: (USB also)
[00:38:00] jm|laptop: twiggy2cents_: note that some PCI[-e] cards are actually USB hubs with USB tuners combined
[00:38:19] jm|laptop: so rely on the same subsystem as the dongles
[00:38:34] wagnerrp: that's seen a lot more often in DVB cards than ATSC/QAM ones
[00:38:45] twiggy2cents_: I dont have a pci-e slot available anyway

[00:42:04] twiggy2cents_: It fails on the 2nd recording
[00:43:03] twiggy2cents_: Ugh now the hauppauge doesnt work
[00:54:29] twiggy2cents_: Is network my best bet for replacing these tuners without having a pci-e slot?
[00:55:51] twiggy2cents_: I have two different antennas so I need something like the hdhr for the one antenna and a single tuner for the other. Unless I the hauppauge tuner starts working consistently when I remove the ATI ones.

[02:03:30] JennieL: Hi. I'm splitting my Myth front & backends. The backend is up & running. The database on the server is reachable from my desktop; I can login to mysql, change, etc. Now I'm trying to connect MythFrontend on my desktop to that backend.
[02:03:32] JennieL: I've entered the data, checked the config.xml, but still I get : "Could not connect to the master backend server. Is it running? Is the IP address set for it in mythtv-setup correct?"
[02:03:47] JennieL: I think I've missed something basic. ANy hints?
[02:08:48] wagnerrp: twiggy2cents_: it just dumps
[02:09:24] wagnerrp: is the IP address for the backend set correctly?
[02:09:40] wagnerrp: i.e... is it configured to an address that is actually reachable from the network?
[02:12:25] JennieL: wagnerrp: It's set to a hostname, which resolves to a LAN IP which is reachable from any machine in my lan. It's the same host/address that mysql is listening on.
[02:16:23] JennieL: wagnerrp: I'm able to connect with XBMC's cmyth frontend to the backend; just not with MythTV FrontEnd.

[02:28:57] wagnerrp: it must be set to an IP address
[02:29:36] wagnerrp: that's why the box in mythtv-setup to configure it says "IP address"
[02:33:58] JennieL: wagnerrp: In the frontend it's hostname, but ok. Strange that XBMC can connect to it with no issues if the backend has the hostname in there; but the MytTV needs the IP address.
[02:34:39] wagnerrp: strange indeed. the past several versions of mythtv should refuse to operate if the user supplies a hostname in that field
[02:35:31] JennieL: Anyway, solved. Thanks!
[02:36:04] JennieL: While I'm here ... WHere in the MythTV config do I set the length of my EPG? I'd like to extend it out to six weeks, i f I can.

[02:36:55] wagnerrp: you can't extend it. mythtv grabs as much as your EPG provider is willing to provide
[02:37:17] JennieL: wagnerrp: Ah, well that explains why I've been having a devil of a time finding it!
[02:37:59] SpeedEvil: Not all programming is even set that far out
[02:38:28] wagnerrp: at least in the US, we license data from Tribune, and they only provide two weeks
[02:38:37] JennieL: SpeedEvil: Got it. Guess I'll have to enable real remote access for when I travel ...
[02:38:52] JennieL: I get mine from SchedulesDirect
[02:38:54] SpeedEvil: Or a minion.
[02:38:59] wagnerrp: the alternative is pulling data from the broadcast stream, and most stations don't provide more than the required 12 hours
[02:39:16] wagnerrp: schedules direct licenses from tribune media services
[02:39:21] JennieL: SpeedEvil: This time it's a vacation. So the minion is coming with me :-)
[02:39:49] SpeedEvil: :)
[02:40:05] wagnerrp: at the moment, we pull directly from tribune's servers, but apparently they want SD to start caching that on their end
[02:40:25] JennieL: wagnerrp: Oh, are *you* SD?
[02:40:40] wagnerrp: no, just paying attention to the goings on
[02:41:07] wagnerrp: by "we", i mean users. users pull from datadirect, which are tribune's servers
[02:41:21] JennieL: Should I, as a mere human, be pulling instead from "Tribune" for any reason? Happy with SD so far ....
[02:41:42] wagnerrp: i'm saying you already are
[02:42:22] JennieL: Let me put it this way. I'm cheap. Is SD required?
[02:42:35] wagnerrp: to get decent guide data, yes

[02:46:00] wagnerrp: if your frontend is properly connecting to your backend, they should be. yes
