[00:27:29] mark2013: I have silicondust hd homerun dual. Current eth0 is Method: Link-Local only. I'm about to clean install MythTV. Is that the right setting Method, if I'm going to have 1xbackend and 2xfrontend?
[00:32:59] wagnerrp: it should work... but why not give it a proper network address?
[00:33:13] wagnerrp: automatically generated addresses are typically a bad idea for use with mythtv
[00:33:22] emmanuelux (emmanuelux!~emmanuelu@192.123.25.109.rev.sfr.net) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[00:36:02] mark2013: I don't know how to give it a "proper address" When Myth installed before, someone, this IRC had me set eth to Link-Local only, but I was running backend and frontend on only this puter/monitor.
[00:37:26] wagnerrp: either define static addresses on each machine directly, or assign them using a DHCP server
[00:37:46] wagnerrp: most people have a dhcp server built into their internet router
[00:37:57] wagnerrp: and most of those have the ability to map static IPs to MAC addresses
[00:39:34] mark2013: Q$$%#$ – sorry for confusion. I have 'net access via wifi only. Wifi-modem-router is in friend's apartment next door. I have to access wifi? Can I start with something simpler?
[00:40:16] wagnerrp: the typical mythtv user has their own internet connection, and doesn't run up against such issues
[00:40:35] wagnerrp: you have two network interfaces on your main system, correct?
[00:40:52] wagnerrp: one wireless connected to your friend's AP, the other wired and connected to the rest of your machines?
[00:41:17] wagnerrp: let the wireless NIC continue to pull a DHCP address from your friend's AP
[00:41:29] wagnerrp: configure your other NIC to statically set an address
[00:41:38] wagnerrp: what is the IP address on your wireless NIC?
[00:42:12] mark2013: ahhh... Wifi (internet access) is via next door. IP4v IP address of wifi is: 192.168.1.73
[00:42:33] wagnerrp: and assuming typical consumer AP configuration, that's on the 192.168.1/24 subnet
[00:42:47] wagnerrp: so you just have to run your other network on some other network to prevent conflicts
[00:43:14] wagnerrp: for example, configure your backend and two frontends to use 192.168.10.1, 192.168.10.2, and 192.168.10.3, respectively
[00:43:33] wagnerrp: seek your distribution's documents on how to do that
[00:43:53] wagnerrp: or... manually do so with 'ifconfig eth0 192.168.10.1 netmask 255.255.255.0'
[00:44:40] mark2013: OK, thanks. I will play and come back if needed.

[15:13:37] AnaximanderThale: the specific movies are "The Fast and the Furious", "Gallipoli" and "It's a boy girl thing"
[15:14:24] AnaximanderThale: I think I've ruled out the apostrophe from the last as I'm able to pull details from the command line with tmdb3.py
[15:14:26] wagnerrp: the fast and the furious probably has problems figuring out specifically which one to pull
[15:14:51] wagnerrp: that reminds me, i should do that today

[15:19:33] AnaximanderThale: Okay — it appears that I'm using the v3 unless there is another location I need to change.
[15:26:41] AnaximanderThale: Hmmm — interesting — I set the 'AaMD Sources' from TheMovieDB.org V3 to TheMovieDB.org (switching from the newer on to the older one) and it retrieved the information.
[15:27:05] AnaximanderThale: Is this perhaps a bug I should report?

[15:32:33] AnaximanderThale: not a problem
[15:41:11] wagnerrp: ok. added a dummy file for The Fast and the Furious, let the scanner pick it up, searched for metadata, picked the right version... every seems to be working fine
[15:42:58] AnaximanderThale: That was with the tmdb3.py?
[15:43:24] wagnerrp: yes
[15:44:31] AnaximanderThale: interesting — rules out bug, but means there's some issue with my computer.

[15:45:48] wagnerrp: it pulls an inetref from the search, tries to grab data for that inetref, and gets nothing
[15:47:08] wagnerrp: ah, someone is feeding TMDB bad data
[15:47:53] wagnerrp: the grabber is faulting on an invalid date string
[15:49:27] wagnerrp: they put '12 June 1992' into some field, when it's looking for ISO formatted '1992-06–12'
[15:50:07] wagnerrp: but it shouldn't be failing, merely throwing up a warning in the terminal
[15:50:34] wagnerrp: how old is the API library version in the code?
[15:51:29] AnaximanderThale: How would I check that?
[15:52:00] wagnerrp: i'm just talking to myself. i wrote the library, but have it as an external chunk of code that i pull in periodically
[15:52:08] wagnerrp: the upstream version is supposed to handle that error
[15:52:16] wagnerrp: are you running 0.26 or master?
[15:52:30] AnaximanderThale: I'm pretty sure 0.26
[15:53:00] AnaximanderThale: v0.26.0-185-g4a460f7
[15:53:09] wagnerrp: yeah, that's probably pretty old
[15:53:12] AnaximanderThale: from mythfrontend --version

[16:01:22] lpx: hi all, I'm using 0.25 (because of front-end) and having issues with live tv.
[16:01:37] lpx: I have a dual-tuner card, with both tuners in mythtv.
[16:01:53] lpx: Both tuners have the same channels.
[16:02:09] AnaximanderThale: wagnerrp — the version of tmdb3.py is v0.26.0-185-g4a460f7
[16:02:16] AnaximanderThale: bah --
[16:02:29] AnaximanderThale: the version of tmdb3.py is 0.3.3
[16:02:43] wagnerrp: no, i'm referring to the API tmdb3.py uses
[16:03:07] lpx: What I want to do is watch one channel on one client, another on another client. WOrks if the channel is on the same transponder (using DVB) but otherwise it seems the second card is ignored.
[16:03:10] wagnerrp: that script is really nothing, just a short wrapper to format output from the library
[16:03:18] AnaximanderThale: okay --
[16:03:41] lpx: So choosing any channel on the 2nd frontend just give me what the first is watching.
[16:03:43] wagnerrp: lpx: it sounds like you've only configured the first tuner on your dual tuner card
[16:04:27] _nyloc_ (_nyloc_!~quassel@p4FE4C467.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[16:05:31] lpx: wagnerrp: I have both /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 and /dev/dvb/adapter1/frontend0 configured in the cards list.
[16:06:05] wagnerrp: then it sounds like you have the second instance of livetv falling on the second virtual tuner of the first physical tuner
[16:06:08] lpx: And in inputs I have used each input three times.

[16:06:32] wagnerrp: virtual tuners are all locked to the same multiplex
[16:06:41] wagnerrp: you need to manually switch to the other tuner to access other channels
[16:06:56] lpx: Ah ok. Can I somehow kill off the virtual tuner?
[16:07:28] lpx: I don't think I can change card in my frontend :(
[16:07:48] wagnerrp: you can change it using the context menu ('m') or with the card hotkey ('c')
[16:08:21] lpx: Problem is that mythfrontend doesn't pass the wife usability factor. :S
[16:08:40] lpx: I was hoping that mythtv would just pick up the second tuner as it's not being used.
[16:08:51] wagnerrp: mythtv 0.26 handles this better
[16:09:13] lpx: Same problem for me though – last XBMC I rtied hated 0.26 :'(
[16:09:31] wagnerrp: wait, are you using the mythtv frontend or the XBMC frontend?

[16:10:27] lpx: (Much prefer).
[16:10:31] wagnerrp: we can't help you with xbmc
[16:10:51] wagnerrp: we don't provide support for their application or their plugin to mythtv here
[16:10:56] lpx: I know. But as mythfrontend wasn't behaving...
[16:11:09] RobertLaptop (RobertLaptop!~rmiddle@mail.middleswarth.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[16:12:03] lpx: Is it possible to make mythtv only use the physical tuner and not have the "extra" virtual one?
[16:12:31] wagnerrp: yes, but that means you cannot simultaneously record multiple subchannels on a single multiplex
[16:12:44] wagnerrp: mythtv places the behavior of recording in higher priority than livetv
[16:13:16] lpx: That's fine for me, two lives at once would be more useful than recording.
[16:13:35] rsiebert_ (rsiebert_!~quassel@e179132034.adsl.alicedsl.de) has quit (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
[16:13:44] lpx: (For my use anyway).
[16:13:53] wagnerrp: in 0.26, you can independently set the ordering for livetv and recordings
[16:14:16] wagnerrp: causing recordings to properly use virtual tuners, and livetv to skip over them for fresh physical ones
[16:14:17] lpx: Oh I have that in my config.
[16:14:25] lpx: But it doesn't do anything.
[16:14:25] wagnerrp: but getting that to work with XBMC... no idea
[16:15:16] lpx: There's a "live tv order" that I set to 1 on the first adapter, 2 on the second.

[16:15:41] wagnerrp: which should be first and third
[16:15:45] lpx: But I think your explanation of the 1st adapter's virtual tuner taking precedence over the 2nd physical would explain the issue.
[16:16:09] wagnerrp: since when you create a digital tuner, it defaults to two virtual tuners
[16:16:22] wagnerrp: so the first and second tuners would be virtuals on the first physical
[16:16:35] wagnerrp: the second physical would be tuners three and four
[16:16:44] lpx: Ah ok, but the virtual tuner on the first still won't be able to give me the channel I actually want will it?
[16:17:13] wagnerrp: when one virtual tuner is tuned to a certain multiplex, all other virtual tuners on that physical one will be locked to that multiplex
[16:17:32] wagnerrp: since there is only one tuner, with the capability of receiving any subchannel within that multiplex
[16:17:55] lpx: SO in theory, if I have two front-ends watching the first physical then the third frontend should be able to choose any channel it wants and get the 2nd card?
[16:19:38] wagnerrp: if configured correctly, the second frontend that starts livetv will skip directly to the second physical tuner (third tuner)
[16:20:06] lpx: That's exactly what I want.
[16:20:07] wagnerrp: and in 0.26, even if the second frontend is on a locked virtual tuner, it should switch to a fresh physical tuner if you try to tune outside that multiplex, if one is available
[16:20:39] wagnerrp: note, i never actually use livetv, so this is just my belief of the behavior
[16:22:54] lpx: Right, you're 100% correct, if I have two frontends on one multiplex then the third frontend can choose whatever it wants. (1 x mythfrontend, 2 x XBMC).
[16:23:39] lpx: So the question is: how do I fix the config? Because leaving a front-end running all the time is going to be painful :)
[16:24:00] wagnerrp: those config options are not available in 0.25
[16:24:04] lpx: (But at least I have a work-around so we're getting there :D).
[16:24:31] lpx: WHich config options are they exactly? I have a live tv priority option?
[16:24:40] wagnerrp: in 0.25?
[16:24:46] lpx: Yep.
[16:24:52] lpx: I set one card to 1, the other to 2.
[16:25:05] lpx: (Well, adapter – they're on the same physical card).
[16:25:37] lpx: I'm using mythbuntu, maybe something was backported?
[16:25:47] wagnerrp: doubtful
[16:25:58] lpx: Ok, I don't know much about that sort of stuff.
[16:25:58] wagnerrp: hang on a second, in the middle of about three different things
[16:26:14] lpx: No problem, really appreciate the help.
