[00:14:51] sphery: jasonsmr: if this is a brand new install with an empty database (TV database included), your best bet is to start the whole database over
[00:15:29] sphery: if you have other data (recordings, etc.) you want to keep, you can try getting rid of the mythgame schema
[00:15:46] sphery: but in the future, don't kill mythbackend or mythfrontend when it's doing database upgrades/creation--or it will cause this problem

[00:31:08] Jester86: hey guys. Anyone experience a PVR 150 not working properly after upgrading to 0.25?
[00:31:33] Jester86: when it first starts recording it works fine but if I change the channel the video gets all messed up
[00:31:59] jasonsmr: it took a few tries to remove and flush tha database but mythgame plugin finaly ran, ill have to see the damage to the main database
[00:32:03] jasonsmr: thanks
[00:32:14] jasonsmr: btw it was a new database
[00:33:12] Jester86: Hey sorry not sure if anyone saw my message or not – I just identified with freenode
[00:34:03] Jester86: I upgraded my system to 0.25 and now my PVR150 is no longer working properly
[00:34:36] Jester86: When it first starts recording the video from the PVR150 is fine, but when you change the channel the picture gets all messed up
[00:35:27] Jester86: I have about 3 screens/ scaled down to 1/3–1/2 the normal size. The screens overlap one another then below there is just random flashing portions of the normal full sized screen.
[00:39:13] jasonsmr: okey now Im getting database errors
[00:39:22] jasonsmr: how do I reconfigure the database?
[00:39:46] jasonsmr: there is an error stopping the mythbackend from starting
[00:40:09] jasonsmr: also is it wierd that mythgame starts even if the mythbackend is not running?

[00:57:10] wagnerrp: and mythfrontend will refuse to run if you do not have a backend to connect to
[00:57:30] wagnerrp: it won't close outright, but it will repeatedly pop up warnings

[01:25:40] Gumby`: hi all. I'm starting mythbackend with --logpath /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log however nothing gets written to the log. Do I have to specify anything else to log to file?
[01:25:58] wagnerrp: because you're giving it a filename
[01:26:07] wagnerrp: you need to give it a directory
[01:26:13] Gumby`: ah, ok
[01:27:30] Gumby`: thanks wagnerrp
[01:28:35] Gumby`: is this still incorrect then.. "/usr/bin/mythbackend --daemon --logpath /var/log/mythtv/ --user mythtv -v eit"
[01:29:07] wagnerrp: that looks fine, except i don't understand why people use '--user'
[01:29:28] Gumby`: "shrug" I guess you are right, its not really useful here

[01:38:05] mzb: the video widget doesn't look anything like what I need
[01:38:18] mzb: is there a nice way of doing this both in the menu and during playback?
[01:41:14] mzb: a combination of solutions could be possible ... eg: OSD or text notification while in the menu/mythwelcome, and the pip during playback
[01:41:19] mzb: any suggestions?
[01:42:21] mroe (mroe!~roe@unaffiliated/roe) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:43:24] mzb: a nasty hack might be to force the Samsung TV itself into playing DLNA (?), but consider the WAF-- for Doctor Who being interrupted by the neighbour's cat ;)
[01:44:33] wagnerrp: very few devices support DLNA RUI
[01:45:49] mzb: I meant that I can remotely force the TV to play a DLNA source instead of the HDMI input ... but this would ruin viewing
[01:46:11] mzb: ideal solution is to (remotely?) get mythtv to do a PIP
[01:48:41] mzb: I don't need mythtv to do any selection as that can be handled remotely .. it's simply displaying a PIP on demand

[01:51:18] wagnerrp: you could add another hook into the messaging system
[01:51:38] wagnerrp: or use the frontend services api

[15:18:29] sphery: joelsplace: Do you have sufficient available temp directory space? MySQL requires a lot of "scratch space" to run the scheduler query.

[15:25:37] gigem: joelsplace: Definitely check your /tmp space as sphery suggests. If that doesn't help, use "-v schedule, database" when you run --testsched.
[15:26:03] sphery: joelsplace: so, for example, if you're using a distro that uses a tmpfs for /tmp , there's a good chance that's the problem (and it only manifests with 2 tuners because of the more-complex scheduling/additional possibilities)
[15:27:09] sphery: gigem: I wonder if I can find a way to get more info from MySQL so we could put an explicit message in the logs for that issue... I'll have to play around with my dev box and see if I can repro.
[15:35:46] gigem: sphery: I just did a quick search for why Qt and/or MySQL might be truncating the error message, but didn't find anything. Being able to print the full message would be a big help. We could then print another message saying "If the above error says blah, blah, blah, it means blah, blah, blah".

[16:45:35] sphery: gigem: http://code.mythtv.org/cgit/mythtv/tree/mytht . . . ogging.h#n21
[16:47:03] sphery: that said, normally there's an error from Qt-MySQL drivers that appears right after "DB Error (AddNewRecords):", then the next line says "Query was: " and gives the query.
[16:48:05] sphery: So I'm thinking MySQL isn't giving an error message at all (just an error) and/or Qt MySQL drivers aren't interpreting it for us
[16:49:41] sphery: actually, maybe not... maybe the db error message is always given after the query
[16:57:43] gigem: sphery: If I understand you correctly, no. MythDB::DBError() logs it all as one, long string. Good catch on the logging doing the truncating.
[16:59:27] sphery: yeah, so it seems that the actual driver error comes last, after the query (and in the case of super-long queries, like in the scheduler, we don't get the error)
[17:00:36] sphery: gigem: perhaps we should change MythDB::DBError() to log the query and the error message separately

[21:43:05] sphery: from the random line or 2 of errors I see in there, it looks like a) you're using some 3rd party client that doesn't use the protocol properly (and may or may not connect/work properly)
[21:43:14] sphery: b) you have some problems with your channel definitions
[21:43:23] bray90820: i can't connect to backend to any 3rd party front-end and the official front-end skips massively

[22:38:53] dekarl: RogerM, no it is not taken into account. The reasoning being that we just copy UTC times from the EIT feed to the database without fiddling about. But it might explain why your TV shows it correctly, basically two wrongs (the broadcaster sending the wrong times and the TV show channel local time of a different time zone) make one right...
[22:39:11] dekarl: RogerM: what do you mean by "episode information"?
[22:39:49] dekarl: RogerM: MythTV will by default put the short event description into the episode title field and the long event description into the synopsis field
[22:39:50] RogerM: dekarl: I noticed in the snoop that there was an episode-num entry on the show I was looking at.
[22:40:53] dekarl: RogerM: hmm, can you post an example to the list? I've never heard of such a field, but it could be a generic key/value pair or something in the plain text for fixups to scrape
[22:42:05] sphery: bray90820_mobile: fwiw, another possibility for "using the protocol incorrectly" would be some non-MythTV thing (web server or mysql client or ...) connecting to your mythbackend port (i.e. 6543)... you could also try to catch what's doing the connecting with netstat and see if you've misconfigured something unrelated to mythtv
[22:42:20] RogerM: dekarl: So should myth assume that the starttime is "correct" UTC or should myth use the time offset the EIT data is using?
[22:42:24] dekarl: RogerM: if the issue is with only one channel we may be able to come up with an EITFixup that fixes the times, leaving only the CET->CEST and CEST->CET switch with wrong data
[22:42:49] sphery: and, fwiw, netstat may show the port as lds-distrib or something, rather than 6543
[22:44:10] dekarl: RogerM: the "lets just use local time" assumption breaks as soon as your channels span multiple time zones. E.g. watching german and british free satelite tv
[22:44:56] Scopeuk is now known as Scopeuk-AFK
[22:45:46] RogerM: dekarl: I found the episode-num in an 0x4e descriptor tag: item_description: "episode-num"  — Charset: Latin alphabet no. 5
[22:46:29] jbaxter (jbaxter!~jbaxter@jimbax.plus.com) has quit (Quit: Quiting)
[22:46:31] dekarl: RogerM, cool. Can I have a specimen? That's the first time I see the generic key/value system in use where I'm not on the writing end :)
[22:47:14] RogerM: dekarl: sure.. No problem. Is it ok with a cut and paste from dvbsnoop?
[22:47:30] dekarl: ^- implicit message, no MythTV does not support the key/value system, but it would be nice to add some EITFixups that make use of available data
[22:48:27] dekarl: RogerM: yes. the full section would be nice (aka. one full block of text+hexdump)
[22:49:27] dekarl: for the station that has the wrong time code a full section would be nice, too. and a little note pointing out if its only one channel or the full transport that is 1 hour off
[22:51:05] RogerM: dekarl: How can I send it to you?
[22:51:46] dekarl: as its likely of interest to others mythtv-users?
[22:53:04] RogerM: Sure.. It's not much text (one of the shorter hex dumps). I'll drop a note on the list.

[22:53:58] RogerM: dekarl: I sure would like to see some fixup adding the episode-num as "Part X Season Y". :)
[22:54:05] RogerM: as subtitle..
[23:04:29] grn_away is now known as grnbrg
[23:07:55] dekarl: RogerM: thanks, maybe just attach it as a file and put a reduced subset in the body or so. (got to leave for the night)
[23:08:42] RogerM: dekarl: Thanks for the help. Much appreciated..
