[01:28:52] itunesdan: nah.. was just curious if anyone was actually around.
[01:29:21] bas-t: want to have contact?
[01:29:36] itunesdan: i have an issue that Im curious if anyone else has run into, or some advice as to how to fix it
[01:30:28] bas-t: how to fix what?
[01:30:43] itunesdan: i am running 0.26, and when i attempt to change the theme within the frontend GUI, it pops up the downloading theme window, but doesnt actually download anything
[01:30:54] itunesdan: (watching netstat confirms this)
[01:31:10] itunesdan: has anyone else run into this?
[01:31:17] [R]: itunesdan: do it twice

[01:33:00] [R]: weird
[01:33:04] [R]: works whne i do it twice
[01:33:40] itunesdan: right? does it have anything to do with the fact that it is strictly a frontend?
[01:33:54] itunesdan: the backend is a totally seperate machine
[01:34:07] [R]: most sane people do it that way
[01:34:13] koffel (koffel!~koffel@c-68-82-146-82.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:35:25] bas-t: try deleting your ~/.mythtv/themecache and your ~/.mythtv/themes and then restart your frontend and try downloading a theme again
[01:35:32] itunesdan: i dont have the frontend packages installed on the backend, though, and i dont know if maybe that has something to do with it. i wouldnt think so, but i dont really know
[01:35:43] [R]: the backend has ntohign to do with the frontend
[01:36:03] ekoffel (ekoffel!~koffel@c-68-82-146-82.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) has quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[01:36:18] itunesdan: yeah i didnt think so, but i've seen some pretty odd things... one can never be too sure
[01:38:01] skd5aner: Actually, think it requires the backend...
[01:38:13] itunesdan: lol
[01:38:30] skd5aner: MythDownloadManager is in the backend, I believe... and mythfrotend tells the backend to retrieve it for it... I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works
[01:38:59] skd5aner: so long as your backend is online, and your frontend is able to connect, it should work
[01:39:12] skd5aner: unless your backend is behind a firewall or something and can't call out
[01:39:21] itunesdan: skd5aner i shouldnt have to download the theme on the backend though, right?
[01:39:39] skd5aner: correct... you don't do it via the backend itself, you do it via the frontend...
[01:39:58] skd5aner: it's just that the frontend is telling the backend to do the actual retrieval...

[01:59:38] bas-t: skd5aner: how could the backend download a theme to my ~/.mythtv/themes folder? I really hope you're mistaken in this
[02:00:44] skd5aner: bas-t: it doesn't... mythfrontend calls mythbackend, which goes and retrieves, then sends it back to mfe
[02:00:49] skd5aner: I could be wrong, but that's my understanding
[02:01:25] skd5aner: itunesdan: stop mythfrontend and start it again – a new log will be created

[02:25:08] bas-t: itunesdan: say you want the mythbuntu theme. than just do: cd ~/.mythtv/themes && rm -rf Mythbuntu && git clone https://github.com/MythTV-Themes/Mythbuntu.git && git checkout fixes/0.26
[02:25:36] bas-t: Now restart your frontend and select the theme

[13:25:26] francesca: Database is empty for me , I simply installed primarybackend and frontend usinf mythbuntu-control-center

[13:26:56] francesca: I simply was unable to run mythtv-setup , so the problem is not a misconfiguration...because i didn't configure nothing at all
[13:27:11] wagnerrp: how were you unable?
[13:28:07] wagnerrp: barring some strange X weirdness that actually prevents you from running mythtv-setup, it's almost certainly a misconfiguration with the initial database
[13:28:30] wagnerrp: most likely, permissions were never set up properly, so mythtv-setup is unable to access the database
[13:29:14] francesca: mythtv-setup ask my language ,then try to enter in the database with standard things...
[13:30:23] francesca: mythconverg localhost mythtv mythtv etcc... but suddenly exit again asking about to restart mythbackend and mythfilldatabase
[13:31:28] francesca: I use an nvidia, it's configured as ubuntustudio decided, it's like 304 driver version.

[13:46:36] francesca: ah ok, but the problem is often that it's not possible to login to the database
[13:46:59] francesca: so the solutiond in this case is to purge completely mysql,
[13:47:22] wagnerrp: the package manager is supposed to have the login for that stored away somewhere, and use that stored login to set up mythtv's database automatically
[13:47:38] wagnerrp: if that has failed, you need to figure out why the package has failed to do so

[19:15:46] jarle: francesca: where do you see this error?
[19:16:41] francesca: launching mythtv-setup. I have installed 0.27 just because 0.26 was giving me problems, then I understood that my problems where probably about a misconfigured password
[19:17:43] jarle: francesca: I'm guessting you are launching the 0.26 version of mythtv-setup instead of the new one?
[19:18:07] francesca: now I installed again 0.26, i tried also to "drop mythconverg" and to reconfigure mythtv-database. Yes i removed everything of 0.27
[19:18:54] wagnerrp: that error means you are still trying to access the existing developmental 0.27 database

[22:34:54] justinh: lol
[22:35:19] tmr_: the missing channels are in the output of scan, but the import of that doesnt result in mythtv recognizing all the channels

[22:36:07] tmr_: justinh: I had, didnt help me anyways
[22:36:12] justinh: is there anything the missing channels have in common?
[22:36:29] justinh: are they all on the same transponder, etc?
[22:36:32] tmr_: yes
[22:36:42] tmr_: but there are several transponders completely missing
[22:36:54] justinh: and is there much difference between the details of the working transponders & the non-working ones?
[22:37:00] volarp: tmr_: w_scan works fine for me (in conjunction with mplayer)
[22:37:50] justinh: mythtv needs to be able to read serviceids of channels you want to pull in. if it can't, they won't be added AFAIK
[22:37:57] volarp: tmr_: and when I populate db with channels.conf and serviceid it works fine
[22:39:44] tmr_: justinh: the only thing that jumps in my eye is that the highest frequency of transponders found in the scans is 11895000
[22:40:10] justinh: you mean in mythtv's scans?
[22:40:19] tmr_: the highest freq in the transponders of astra 19.2E is 12728
[22:40:20] tmr_: yes
[22:40:53] tmr_: i see both DVB-S and S2, H/V pol, different modulations....no pattern there
[22:40:54] justinh: and you've tried adding the correct details of a missing transponder in the scanner manually, then scan it?
[22:41:01] tmr_: yes

[23:17:42] ** justinh wonders who is channeling mchou tonight **
[23:17:47] justinh: is it me?
[23:17:52] volarp: dekarl: no, it implies myth scanning was nowhere near a spec
[23:18:36] justinh: volarp: come on man, the developers have the specs, they read the specs.. and for all digital TV to work in mythtv you need a developer everywhere there's a variation, just about
[23:18:48] justinh: and where there's no guy they have to follow the paperwork
[23:19:22] volarp: justinh: you're welcome to look in all the archives arout mythtv atsc scanning not working (nowhere near a spec)
[23:20:02] volarp: son't even try to blame poor spec for myth devs not implementing a working scanner
[23:20:04] justinh: yeah.. and never see any ML posts where a local broadcaster had managed to break their own streams to such an extent that mythtv couldn't use them but a TV could?
[23:20:39] justinh: anyway, arguing about this with anybody in IRC, let alone you is utterly pointless
[23:20:40] volarp: hah

[23:20:49] dekarl: volarp: I don't know what you are doing, but I'm at least trying to figure out how the stuff is broken and provide patches. People from the countries not following up in tickets makes that a bit hard. (btw, broadcasters replying "we won't fix it" to paying customers is on file in the mythtv ticket system should you care to look)
[23:21:06] justinh: because it won't fix the mythtv code where you think it's wrong
[23:21:44] justinh: cable companies are probably among the worst for messing around

[23:26:49] justinh: a bit inappropriate for a public ML, IMHO
