[09:10:33] Beirdo: it doesn't show up in the QNX man page equivalents
[09:10:48] Beirdo: and I'm not up for implementing that right now
[09:11:04] Beirdo: this needs to get committed tomorrow.
[09:11:26] Beirdo: I'll live with the first interval being 180s

[09:13:06] wagnerrp: oh google... why must you capture my forward slashes for your own nefarious purposes...
[09:13:13] Beirdo: now, let's see it recover next time around without the null routes, then I stop for the night, and go the hell home

[19:32:38] sphery: squidly: we don't back up the database daily because doing so at "inopportune" times could result in recording and/or data corruption--so we need to get more and better tracking of what's currently occurring (on all various backends and frontends) and what is scheduled to occur and when before we can do automatic DB maintenance
[19:32:56] sphery: (this is especially true on underpowered systems that many people love)

[19:34:10] disputin (disputin!~sean@2001:470:9758:1:b993:d191:7e6a:3321) has quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[19:34:27] sphery: so as wagnerrp mentioned, the current suggested approach is to handle it yourself--either in start/stop scripts, cron (ideally at a time when the likelihood of anything happening is low), or whatever
[19:35:02] squidly: sphery: yep. Though I think I found a bet of a better solution. I can just replicate the database between two machines
[19:35:18] wagnerrp: and a rather complicated one at that
[19:35:24] squidly: I'm just having to rebuild my database now because it fried last night.
[19:35:41] wagnerrp: would be better to just incorporate a new housekeeper program

[19:35:50] wagnerrp: similar to the EIT scanner
[19:36:16] sphery: I'm a big fan of a SQL-based (plain-text, usable regardless) backup of the database no matter what other approaches you take
[19:36:17] wagnerrp: sphery: speaking of which, it would probably be a good idea to get mythfilldatabase to do the same
[19:36:17] squidly: I'm just trying to figure out what I need to do so I can get something of a database working so I can rebuild the system as best I can
[19:36:35] squidly: is there a way I can have it track my recoarded show or will those pretty much be toast?
[19:36:51] sphery: the SQL-based backup created by http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore can be used without even MySQL

[19:39:04] sphery: hehe, just got a reply--they switched servers and the workaround they had in place broke downloads, so mythbuntu.org site is by design until a better solution comes along

[19:41:05] sphery: if so, the best solution is probably to use your 2-mo-old DB backup, then http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Find_orphans.py (to clean up orphaned metadata from watched-and-deleted-in-the-interim recordings and to find orphaned recording files from recorded-in-the-last-two-months shows, which you can then move to Video Library to watch)
[19:41:58] sphery: that will maintain all but the last 2 mos of history
[19:42:05] squidly: sphery: yea I'm not that worried about the stuff that was recoarded in the last 2 months.
[19:42:33] squidly: I'm actually more worried about my video library.. that's going to be a pain if I have to re-class everything in there
[19:42:45] sphery: and those shows you recorded in the interim will be re-recorded on rerun--and you could either delete the new recordings or (if you prefer) delete the old moved-to-Video-Library recordings so things are in Video Library
[19:43:10] sphery: the biggest challenge will be figuring out what show each of the recent recordings happens to be
[19:43:47] sphery: In theory, re-populating Video Library metadata should be rather easy--assuming you used good naming scheme and metadata sites actually had info on those videos
[19:43:51] squidly: sphery: that will actually be pretty easy
[19:44:49] squidly: sphery: I do for the most part. I just have it separated by catagories like Childen, Sci-Fi, Action, Drama, Documentary
[19:44:57] squidly: I dont wnat to have to go though and rebuild that listing
[19:45:06] sphery: ah, yeah, that will be more work to rebuild
[19:45:19] sphery: though in theory, will only require updating the last 2 mos of new videos
[19:45:59] sphery: (I'm guessing you don't have /that/ many new videos in there--unless you were one of the people with way too many recordings in Watch Recordings and you took my advice about moving large collections of recordings to Video Library for the better UI :)
[19:46:31] squidly: sphery: only for some shows Like The West Wing, Firefly and a few other tv shows
[19:46:50] squidly: The rest is just about 900 Videos of eating up 2.2 tb
[19:48:19] sphery: were most of them there 2 months ago? if so, the DB data should be the same as it was
[19:48:37] sphery: so assuming you didn't just re-organize them within the last 2mos
[19:51:09] sphery: squidly: anyway, good luck--and I feel your pain
[19:51:33] sphery: it seems the more HDDs I get, the more HDD failures I have

[22:29:32] sphery: uglyoldbob: that's the output from the configure run from the build you're currently running?
[22:30:27] sphery: also, fwiw, you may want to use --enable-proc-opt
[22:31:15] jya: quick question in regards to recording and the maximum number of recordings
[22:31:43] jya: I had a record all "Play School" rule for the past 3 years
[22:31:52] jya: realised I had over 1TB of those
[22:31:58] sphery: wagnerrp: speaking of which--I just remembered you had mentioned an inability to run your build from one processor on a system with a very different proc... That's to be expected (and especially when using --enable-proc-opt), and the --cpu/--march/--tune stuff is there for people who are "packaging" generic builds for multiple procs (which it seems you're doing)
[22:31:58] jya: 440 of them
[22:32:15] jya: so I changed the recording rule to not record more than 5
[22:32:34] jya: all 440 showed in the recording list (the one you access from the frontend in the first Recordings menu)
[22:32:42] jya: then a new recording occurred
[22:33:00] jya: and sure enough, in the All Programs list, I can now only count 5 playschool
[22:33:08] jya: however, disk space didn't change.
[22:33:15] sphery: jya: they're in Deleted rec group, now
[22:33:29] jya: so I changed from All Programs to "Playschool"
[22:33:32] jya: and they are all there
[22:34:09] sphery: jya: if you exit Watch Recordings and re-enter, are they still there?
[22:34:18] sphery: or are you using mythweb, now, to look
[22:34:26] sphery: if so, I heard that there's a bug where it's showing Deleted recordings
[22:34:28] jya: no, because when I come back it goes back to All Recordings
[22:34:32] jya: which only show the last 5
[22:34:48] sphery: right, then if you change back to Playschool, are they gone?
[22:34:48] jya: they are easy to spot, there are every day, so manually counting is easy
[22:34:56] jya: seeing that it's 3/4 of my recordings :)
[22:35:01] jya: no they aren't
[22:35:09] jya: they are in Playschool
[22:35:21] jya: the rule change from all to max of 5, was done last week
[22:35:26] sphery: if that's the case, it seems it's not a caching issue in mythfrontend
[22:35:31] jya: it had plenty of time to do whatever it was supposed to do
[22:35:46] jya: let me check mythweb
[22:36:04] jya: ah there are 214 episodes of play school now
[22:36:15] sphery: and you changed the existing rule, rather than creating a new rule to replace the old?
[22:36:16] jya: so it has deleted some
[22:36:23] jya: I guess I just have to wait and see
[22:36:27] jya: that's right
[22:36:32] jya: I only changed the existing rule
[22:36:39] sphery: yeah, sounds like it's deleting them, but the backend is a bit swamped
[22:36:41] jya: using mythweb, only added to max recordings: 5
[22:36:46] sphery: we actually spawn a new thread for each delete
[22:36:58] jya: the backend is sitting idle at 0% CPU forever :)
[22:37:11] jya: it's a pretty gutsy backend
[22:37:25] sphery: and it's likely that it tries to delete a ton and then only gets a few
[22:37:26] jya: I upgraded not long ago (2.8GHz quad-core i5, 8GB of RAM)
[22:37:35] sphery: then next recording it tries to delete again and ...
[22:38:17] jya: so you're saying that it will keep trying until it finally succeeds ?
[22:38:34] sphery: and now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that the max episodes deletion doesn't use the delete queue (Deleted recgroup)
[22:38:44] jya: it's a 8TB RAID arrary, I have 300GB left that I set as how much free space to keep, this has worked fine for years
[22:38:45] sphery: so that explains why they're still in Playschool group
[22:40:31] sphery: I think it will keep trying
