[01:03:59] bill6502: johnjacobjingerh: Good, to break the problem in half, type mythbackend --setverbose upnp, then tailf /var/log/syslog (or where ever your backend logs are stored.) Then attempt to connect to the backend again. You should see something like GetHost.
[01:06:20] johnjacobjingerh: hold on... someone is at the door... lol i'll be back asap
[01:11:55] bill6502: The actual log entry ends in: ExtractMethodFromURL(end) : GetHostName : /Myth and a response ending in: (SendResponse) – HTTPRequest::SendResponse(xml/html) () :200 OK -> 192.168.10.139: 4

[01:32:50] J-e-f-f-A: somethinginteres: Humm... How about adjacent shows, before/after?
[01:34:17] J-e-f-f-A: somethinginteres: I had a similar issue with Burn Notice – Myth always wanted to record the 2nd showing at midnight... I just forced it to record 'in this timeslot every week'...  :-(
[01:37:03] somethinginteres: J-e-f-f-A: the only show before is 5 hours before and after is 2hrs after.
[01:37:20] J-e-f-f-A: somethinginteres: so no overlap. humm...
[01:37:47] J-e-f-f-A: somethinginteres: I dunno then – you'll have to wait for a scheduling guru to guide you more. ;-)
[01:38:01] somethinginteres: J-e-f-f-A: roger that. Thanks for the help.
[01:38:47] J-e-f-f-A: somethinginteres: in my case, I think it was 'overlap' that cause it to always prefer the later showing... So I 'forced' it to record the showing in that specific timestamp, and things were fine after that.

[07:42:48] N0BOX: What can cause a Perl module to "lock up"? I have been using a modified version of this perl script that uses ffmpeg to transcode recordings to h.264, which I found on the wiki...
[07:43:55] N0BOX: It uses some sort of MythTV perl module to connect to the backend database to collect information about the recording, and adds the transcoded file to the database once the transcode is successful
[07:44:37] N0BOX: this was working perfectly up until just an hour or so ago
[07:45:08] N0BOX: now it locks up at "my $mt = new MythTV();"
[07:47:00] sid3windr: I guess it a) makes a tcp connection to the backend b) connects to mysql
[07:47:03] sid3windr: so maybe look there?
[07:49:16] N0BOX: this is all happening on a single pc running as both front and backend, and I can log into the database using the mysql cli as the mythtv user and use the mythconverg database
[07:52:34] N0BOX: hrmm
[07:52:47] N0BOX: I guess the frontend is also now having trouble connecting to the backend
[07:52:49] N0BOX: wtf
[07:53:09] N0BOX: and it is slow as all hell, even though the cpu and io usage is way low
[07:53:25] N0BOX: it can't seem to pull up a list of recordings
[07:57:21] N0BOX: is there some sort of utility to repair a mythtv database or some other sort of magic?

[08:39:48] N0BOX: lol
[08:41:09] N0BOX: I wonder if there is some process that handles communications between the frontend and backend that died
[08:41:41] N0BOX: maybe the mythtv perl module talks to it instead of the database directly

[08:46:00] dekarl: and if you can telnet to the backend port

[14:14:24] somethinginteres: sphery: roger that. Looks like manual flagging is the go. Dunno why but the auto method is way off for me. Only downside is having to watch the show before removing commercials to avoid spoilers. I'd hoped to remove prior to viewing but not a real issue. Thanks for the advice.
[14:16:01] sphery: somethinginteres: if you're just watching the show and not keeping it, editing out commercials probably isn't worthwhile...
[14:16:55] sphery: somethinginteres: turn off the automatically skip commercials setting (set it to notify, but do not skip)... then mythfrontend will tell you when there's a detected break and how long it is, and if it looks reasonable, you can hit the SKIPCOMMERCIAL (I think that's its name) button
[14:18:43] sphery: otherwise, ignore the notification and keep watching or use JUMPFFWD and/or SEEKFFWD and JUMPRWND and/or SEEKRWND to skip the commercial manually while watching
[14:19:21] sphery: and note you can also do arbitrary seek (there's a button for that--ARBSEEK), but it's easier to hit a number and use SEEKFFWD/RWND
[14:22:42] sphery: so, for example, hit 3, RIGHT to seek 3 minutes forward... and note that you can change the time for JUMPFFWD/JUMPRWND/SEEKFFWD/SEEKRWND. IIRC, JUMP* defaults to 10min (way too long), but I've set mine to 3min, which is ideal for skipping commercial breaks around here (gets me close, then I use SEEKFFWD (30s) and SEEKRWND (15s) to fine tune)
[14:25:18] somethinginteres: sphery: how does it notify me. I am running a recording now and ads come on but no notification at all.

[18:03:33] wagnerrp: are you missing a number off the front?
[18:03:37] Peitolm: nope
[18:03:44] Peitolm: 529 is a cable channel number
[18:03:48] Peitolm: which is the chanid
[18:04:05] clever: the chanid is almost always 4 digits
[18:04:07] wagnerrp: but you should have a source id too

[18:05:32] Peitolm: ooh, wonder if the schedule goes back that far
[18:05:55] wagnerrp: every recording ever made is stored in a separate table, for use with duplicate matching
[18:05:59] clever: you can probly check the record history table manualy, i just dont remember the name of it

[18:06:39] Peitolm: o.k. got it, it was world series of baseball

[18:07:11] wagnerrp: it's possible that script is broken now that the database is UTC
[18:07:38] clever: wagnerrp: i always thought that it went directly off the basename column
[18:08:11] wagnerrp: if you had a basename column to go off of, you would still have an entry for it in the database, and wouldn't need the script
