[07:52:30] whyzzyrd: good morning. I'm having trouble with my slave backend "disconnecting" from the master with el following log message
[07:52:57] whyzzyrd: mythmaster mythbackend[1384]: E Scheduler mythsocket.cpp:534 (readStringList) MythSocket(9c6e1b0:47): readStringList: Error, timed out after 30000 ms.

[07:53:47] whyzzyrd: I'm running mythtv_0.25.0+fixes.20120410.1f5962a-0ubuntu1_all.deb
[07:53:57] whyzzyrd: It's done it 3 times now over the last week
[07:54:25] whyzzyrd: and it's denting the WAF somewhat, as it keeps "not recording the thing it was supposed to"..
[07:55:11] whyzzyrd: There's nothing untoward in the mythbackend logs on the slave
[07:55:57] [R]: that seems pretty ancien t

[07:57:46] whyzzyrd: v0.25.2-25-g0817eb2
[07:58:01] whyzzyrd: branch fixes/0.25
[08:00:01] [R]: hrm, looks to be the latest
[08:00:20] [R]: wagnerrp was talking about how its a known problem when the backend randomly locks up
[08:00:24] whyzzyrd: It's only been doing it since I upgraded from an earlier 0.25
[08:00:42] whyzzyrd: but quite what the older one was, I'm no sure
[08:01:23] whyzzyrd: I believe it was 25.1 release
[08:02:09] whyzzyrd: though it could have been a week or 2 before that.
[08:02:22] ** whyzzyrd off to look and see if it logs package installs anywhere **
[08:03:28] whyzzyrd: 0.25.0+fixes.20120614.56fd9e2
[08:03:32] [R]: my backend shuts down when its idle
[08:03:34] whyzzyrd: was the last version I had

[08:04:59] whyzzyrd: My master backend is an epia, the slave backend is an atom.
[08:05:49] whyzzyrd: the master backend doesn't lock up, because it still records things from its local card
[08:06:24] [R]: it could be an error related to crappy undepowered cpus

[08:07:06] whyzzyrd: I've plenty of spare cycles
[08:08:21] whyzzyrd: I'm perfectly aware that the epia (despite the 1Ghz clock) is somewhat non-stellar
[08:08:45] whyzzyrd: which is why it's not doing any playout.

[08:10:45] whyzzyrd: in any case, what I was hoping to ask someone is, in this condition, once it's timed out, what re-initiates the connection? Does the master poke the slave to attempt a reconnect, or does the slave only attempt to reconnect at startup? How does the slave backend not know that it "fell off" and try again?
[08:11:40] whyzzyrd: I wonder if it's the slave backend that locked up. I did have to kill -9 it to make it respawn.
[08:12:16] whyzzyrd: I'll attach strace to it next time it does it

[14:37:24] just_Tom: Hi all, I have an nVidia 9600GT card. Been using the old 173.x driver which works find, just no VDPAU. I've just made the jump to HD so now I need the VDPAU support. Problem is that 295.x won't detect my TV connected.

[14:38:32] russell5: using hdmi?
[14:38:40] just_Tom: the 295.x driver will drive my monitor just fine, but when I run the nvidia-settings, it doesn't detect the TV

[14:43:18] jams: can you paste it in pastebin

[19:41:57] mattwj2002: ftw?
[19:42:04] mattwj2002: you mean fta?
[19:42:04] whyzzyrd: I can't seem to get gdb to attach to it (ptrace issues on mythbuntu), though strace works pretty perfectly
[19:42:09] whyzzyrd: For The Win
[19:42:16] mattwj2002: oh !
[19:42:17] mattwj2002: :)
[19:42:54] whyzzyrd: People keep telling me I ought to reimplement it using DVBlast, but while it works, I suspect I'll stay with what I know
[19:47:07] mattwj2002: guys should I do it?
[19:47:20] whyzzyrd: wagnerrp, I've got a reasonable idea of when it started doing this (for me) (between the updates of the 14th June, and the latest). However, I thought I might catch it because it did it 3 times this morning, but it's behaved since I've had strace attached to it.
[19:47:24] mattwj2002: 64 gb thumb drive usb 2.0 for $32 usd
[19:47:39] mattwj2002: store brand
[19:47:47] whyzzyrd: that'll take forever to write no?
[19:47:57] mattwj2002: not really
[19:48:16] mattwj2002: I have a 32 gb version it is pretty good
[19:48:55] whyzzyrd: how much is a 320G USB2 external SATA drive?
[19:49:04] mattwj2002: hmmm
[19:49:07] mattwj2002: let me check
[19:49:33] mattwj2002: $60
[19:50:06] whyzzyrd: not quite as pocket sized though.
[19:50:46] whyzzyrd: wagnerrp, does 0.25.1 release crash like this?
[19:50:46] mattwj2002: yeah
[19:51:30] whyzzyrd: I've a 2TB drive stuck to the top of my case, screws through the case, cables through a punched hole.. I didn't have space for 2 drives inside :)
[19:51:48] mattwj2002: lol
[19:51:50] mattwj2002: :P

[19:54:15] whyzzyrd: toad: erm, run out of space, and have stuff with autoexpiry set IIRC
[19:54:27] toad: i want to shrink its partition... i believe it maintains a certain percentage free?
[19:54:33] mattwj2002: got to go

[19:57:23] tgm4883: If you want it to delete stuff, you either need to increase that amount, or better yet, just tell it to delete stuff
[19:57:37] toad: i can't find the config
[19:57:40] toad: where is it?
[19:57:50] toad: i'm sure i saw one a long time ago for how much space to keep free
[19:58:05] tgm4883: toad, why don't you just tell it to delete stuff?
[19:58:10] tgm4883: either via the frontend or mythweb
[19:58:12] whyzzyrd: just chuck up the menu and delete some stuff, then wait for it to do it.
[19:58:20] whyzzyrd: I presume you put on "slow delete"
[19:58:22] toad: how? you mean just delete stuff manually? how do i delete stuff of lowest priority?
[19:58:44] toad: i tried with slow delete turned off but it seemed to actually be deleting stuff when it was on so i turned it back on
