[00:40:12] akovia: any bash/mysql gurus inclined to help me with a quoting issue? I can't seem to pass a properly formed filename for mysql to process.
[00:40:44] [R]: akovia: what?
[00:41:10] akovia: here's the part of the script i'm having trouble with. http://pastebin.com/2xuRLFwD
[00:42:12] akovia: when i capture the filename it formed properly in an echo, but I can't seem to put the double quotes around the filename for mysql to accept it.
[00:42:18] akovia: works if i do it manually
[00:43:11] [R]: echo blah | mysql
[00:43:18] [R]: if it still doesnt work, what does echo blah say
[00:43:19] akovia: here is the console output http://pastebin.com/cTtC7jDL
[00:43:46] [R]: you need coverfile="blah"
[00:43:49] [R]: with double quotes
[00:44:07] akovia: it has single quotes though and i can't seem to get them to be double
[00:44:52] [R]: what is unquoted_thumb_file
[00:45:44] akovia: guh sec...pastebin plugin locked..sec
[00:46:28] akovia: http://pastebin.com/9NnsG9Ti
[00:48:12] [R]: echo "UPDATE videometadata SET coverfile=\"${UNQUOTED_THUMB_FILE}\" WHERE intid=${ID} LIMIT 1" | mysql
[00:49:33] akovia: nuh uh! ...it seems to be working!!
[00:50:11] akovia: i've been struggling with this for hours.
[00:51:47] akovia: had a couple thousand files to update so it's still running but I see no errors scrolling by. You have my gratitude. Many Thanks!
[00:58:38] wagnerrp: akovia: i know ive mentioned this before... but this is why we dont use bash to fiddle with databases
[00:58:46] [R]: lol
[00:58:51] [R]: you said fiddle
[00:58:55] ** [R] giggles **
[00:59:27] akovia: i know, but since i didn't know how to add unicode to your script i had nothing else to go on. =/ sorry
[01:00:06] wagnerrp: know perl? or php? or ruby? or java? or c++?
[01:00:37] wagnerrp: just about anything with a proper mysql library is better than bash
[01:01:26] akovia: nay, sorry. I know enough to hack around in programming but not enough to write my own.
[01:01:45] akovia: messed with perl and bash is about it
[01:02:19] akovia: i won't ask about bash here again though

[01:03:30] wagnerrp: its not that you _cant_ ask about it in here
[01:03:37] akovia: the script actually still failed but I figured out the quoting issue thanks to [R] . I think I can get it from here
[01:04:00] wagnerrp: just that a lot of these kinds of syntax problems are solved by a library that handles proper escaping and type conversion for you
[01:04:08] akovia: If I knew another way easier/better I'd try
[01:04:37] akovia: i'm finding that out
[01:05:19] akovia: I've usually been able to hack a bash script to my needs, but have never fiddled with databases with it before
[01:05:44] akovia: slippery slope indeed

[03:43:56] wagnerrp: darkstarbyte: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Feature_Wishlist
[03:45:10] darkstarbyte: thanks
[03:47:13] lucas^: wagnerrp: I think I fixed the Windows cache bug in tmdb3
[03:47:41] darkstarbyte: What I was wanted is kind of simple
[03:47:46] wagnerrp: i saw a push on github, and looked at it briefly
[03:48:46] wagnerrp: im going to have to test it more thoroughly before i do anything with it
[03:49:07] wagnerrp: closing the file and changing the access behavior is likely to cause problems elsewhere
[03:49:56] wagnerrp: and to be honest, its been too long since ive looked at that code to remember why the existing re-open and access modes are in their current screwy state
[03:50:48] lucas^: was kinda wondering that myself. was sort-of afraid I'd break the Linux/BSD side
[03:51:03] darkstarbyte: "$SHOW_NAME – $PROVIDED_DESCRIPTION" (with 4 characters to spare if to long, as in "..." and one full NULL)
[03:51:20] darkstarbyte: full = for*
[03:51:44] lucas^: but from what little I saw on Windows, movies cache correctly and are fetched correctly
[03:52:08] wagnerrp: darkstarbyte: could you provide some context to that?
[03:52:12] darkstarbyte: like
[03:52:15] lucas^: I'll just use null cache mode in my code for now
[03:52:31] darkstarbyte: Burn Notice – Fall of Sam Axe
[03:52:39] wagnerrp: i need to see why its taking so long for queries to return
[03:52:50] wagnerrp: last time i played around with it, they were near instant
[03:52:59] wagnerrp: this afternoon, they were all taking several seconds
[03:53:05] wagnerrp: and the paging on searches appeared to be broken
[03:53:25] darkstarbyte: or
[03:53:38] wagnerrp: darkstarbyte: i still dont understand the context, where are you looking for this to be implemented?
[03:54:27] darkstarbyte: Instead of the time stamp names that myth tv gives now in the place where it stores the files.
[03:54:28] wagnerrp: your comment of a NULL character would seem to indicate you're talking about raw C++, as most scripting languages will handle that null character for you transparently
[03:54:49] darkstarbyte: I am used to C and assembly mostly.
[03:54:50] wagnerrp: but then those formats are not used by QString's substitution mechanism
[03:55:12] darkstarbyte: I have used C++ with much struggle.
[03:55:25] wagnerrp: why would anyone want filenames stored with such data?
[03:55:39] wagnerrp: thats just asking for trouble when dealing with potentially inaccurate EPG data
[03:56:11] darkstarbyte: Because do to a glitch in my kernel versions driver I can't watch the videos with mythtv
[03:56:14] darkstarbyte: So I use vlc
[03:56:45] wagnerrp: if you want human readable filenames, use mythlink.pl to create symlinks to the content in another directory
[03:57:10] darkstarbyte: Is there a way to make this automatic?
[03:57:20] wagnerrp: if there are problems with the filename generated from EPG data in a symlink, no one cares as you havent lost anything
[03:57:24] darkstarbyte: within the mythtv code that is.
[03:57:47] wagnerrp: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Mythlink.pl
[03:57:53] darkstarbyte: It is just so that files can't be named the same thing twice.
[03:57:56] wagnerrp: you can run it globally through cron
[03:58:10] wagnerrp: you can run it individually through mythtv's event system
[03:58:11] darkstarbyte: No way to make it a module?
[03:58:24] darkstarbyte: or add it in the settings?
[03:58:30] darkstarbyte: oh
[03:58:35] wagnerrp: settings, yes... mythtv's event system
[03:58:39] wagnerrp: it describes that on the page
[03:58:58] darkstarbyte: very sorry for me wasting your time
[03:59:00] wagnerrp: you give mythtv the command string, and it runs it automatically in response to a new recording
[03:59:10] darkstarbyte: Another question.
[03:59:21] wagnerrp: shoot
[03:59:39] darkstarbyte: Is there a way to off set the time that myth tv records things, without changing system time?
[04:00:19] wagnerrp: you can add a pre/post-roll to individual recording rules
[04:00:36] wagnerrp: that tells mythtv to record an additional X minutes before and after the scheduled times of the show
[04:00:47] wagnerrp: and those accept negative values
[04:00:52] darkstarbyte: I need exactly 30 seconds
[04:00:56] darkstarbyte: delay.
[04:01:59] darkstarbyte: So does it accept floating point values?
[04:02:08] wagnerrp: the settings mentioned are only precise to the minute, integer values
[04:02:16] darkstarbyte: darn
[04:03:08] wagnerrp: there is a per-tuner soft padding in seconds, but that is designed to account for hardware that may take some amount of "warm up" time
[04:03:21] darkstarbyte: though I suppose it is the fault of standardization.
[04:04:05] darkstarbyte: never mind, that was miliseconds talk
[04:05:34] lucas^: I know this is off-topic and all
[04:05:34] darkstarbyte: My computer falls one second out of sync of atomic time every week.
[04:05:35] wagnerrp: if your computer is accurate, either by NTP or radio clock
[04:05:35] lucas^: but tonight's Breaking Bad was pretty goddamn amazing
[04:05:50] wagnerrp: you can always raise a ticket with Schedules Direct
[04:06:02] wagnerrp: who will in turn raise that up the ladder to Tribune
[04:06:22] wagnerrp: if particular stations are reliably 30 seconds off
[04:06:28] darkstarbyte: IT is the channel it self on my computer.
[04:06:37] wagnerrp: huh?
[04:06:48] darkstarbyte: that made no sense, let me try those two sentences again.
[04:07:10] darkstarbyte: It is the channel it self that has fallen out of sync, but I keep my computers time in line.
[04:07:47] wagnerrp: right, im saying if your computers are all accurate, but the channel is reliably 30 seconds off on every show transition
[04:07:49] darkstarbyte: I like precise time a little to much.
[04:07:54] wagnerrp: schedules direct *might* be able to do something about it
[04:08:35] darkstarbyte: EIT
[04:08:44] darkstarbyte: though I should switch.
[04:08:51] wagnerrp: oh, EIT? this is in the US, correct?
[04:08:56] darkstarbyte: yes
[04:09:07] wagnerrp: yeah, EIT in the US is known to be garbage
[04:09:13] lucas^: pretty much
[04:09:24] lucas^: also most (almost all?) channels don't provide it
[04:09:32] wagnerrp: well they have to provide it
[04:09:35] darkstarbyte: The times to record are correct, but channel kxpi is always off by 30 seconds.
[04:09:39] wagnerrp: the FCC requires 12 hours worth
[04:09:51] wagnerrp: but most dont bother providing more than that
[04:10:09] kc (kc!~Casper@unaffiliated/kc) has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[04:10:10] wagnerrp: and even then, most dont bother providing detailed data for those 12 hours
[04:10:22] darkstarbyte: I would like to petition that they raise it to a week, for my purposes.
[04:10:45] lucas^: from what I remember using it in 2008, I was lucky to get the current channel name / program title
[04:10:57] darkstarbyte: The channels I use provide useful data, but not very detailed.
[04:11:04] darkstarbyte: use,*
[04:11:14] wagnerrp: reliable EIT data would be wonderful, especially if they performed real-time updates for delayed programs
[04:11:38] lucas^: SchedulesDirect is something like $6 for 2 months, with 7 days free
[04:11:39] darkstarbyte: I think their systems time is off.
[04:11:47] kc (kc!~Casper@unaffiliated/kc) has joined #mythtv-users
[04:12:00] lucas^: although I'm a college student and know that's basically two days' lunch right there
[04:12:03] wagnerrp: but, thats no likely to happen... and cable/satellite/iptv users are still out of luck
[04:15:46] wagnerrp: lucas^: cheaper to do $25/yr
[04:17:16] darkstarbyte: perhaps I could ask the network, if they would check there air times according to atomic time.
[04:18:22] wagnerrp: when your existence relies on advertising, you don't really have much concern for DVR users
[04:18:35] darkstarbyte: I won't mention dvr
[04:18:56] lucas^: well, that's basically what it'd be for
[04:19:02] wagnerrp: then they would probably consider a few tens of seconds to be plenty accurate
[04:19:35] wagnerrp: no reason for things to be scheduled down to the second like that unless you are recording it
[04:20:50] darkstarbyte: I should check the times more to see it is truly system, or if it is a human error thing.
[04:21:09] darkstarbyte: if it is human error, then I won't bother to ask.
[04:21:36] darkstarbyte: human error, skewing a lot more.
[04:23:06] darkstarbyte: human error also being people turning on the machines each day.
[04:25:22] darkstarbyte: SOme of my files seem to be corrupt, because unless I use ffmpeg to convert them, they won't play in vlc.
[04:26:12] darkstarbyte: maybe some sort of mythtv thing?
[04:27:10] lucas^: that's basically the nature of digital broadcasts
[04:27:31] wagnerrp: well they should still play, and unless you have poor signal, they should play perfectly
[04:27:31] lucas^: I use Project-X to clean them before splitting / remuxing / transcoding
[04:27:57] lucas^: they'll definitely play in mplayer
[04:28:01] lucas^: vlc's a bit more picky sometimes
[04:28:05] wagnerrp: even with poor signal, you would only have to worry about some transient gaps, and the player should pick up further on where ever there is data available
[04:28:59] darkstarbyte: The files look perfect, but I think the 10's of seconds delay is messing up the meta data.
[04:30:04] darkstarbyte: How would I check the signal
[04:30:21] dmz (dmz!~dmz@unaffiliated/dmz) has joined #mythtv-users

[04:37:23] darkstarbyte: where are the logs?
[04:37:34] wagnerrp: maybe /var/log/mythtv/ ?
[04:38:35] darkstarbyte: only myth log in /var/log is mythfilldatabase.log
[04:38:49] darkstarbyte: no mythtv directory.

[05:00:05] wagnerrp: wiki page describes its use
[05:00:14] wagnerrp: normal behavior, you give it a directory and a formatting string
[05:00:23] wagnerrp: and it fills it with all available recordings
[05:00:33] wagnerrp: something to run in cron
[05:01:01] wagnerrp: if you run it as a system event, you give it the chanid and starttime as well, and it only adds that specific file
[05:01:08] darkstarbyte: yay
[05:01:21] wagnerrp: note, that also means you can run the command multiple times, to provide different directory layouts

[05:02:20] darkstarbyte: I should be fine with it for now.

[20:57:32] JoeJulian: So it appears that the reason all my files now show up without a directory structure in upnp is probably the change in which table it's using for look-up, huh.
[20:57:58] wagnerrp: sort of
[20:58:23] wagnerrp: previously, the UPNP server would perform its own file scan based off the old folder definitions in the frontend, and keep its own independent list of content

[21:54:29] ServerSage: Next up, I have an HDPVR and it has the color saturation problem (new firmware). Not a big deal, applied the fix I found on the wiki – added it to the channel change script. But, it only works if myth changes the channel for the recording, which it doesn't seem to every time.
[21:55:23] ServerSage: Or, the change isn't working because myth isn't already recording when it happens.

[22:19:43] sphery: ServerSage: and then, it would be wonderful if you update the wiki to do it properly
