[02:12:11] Aval0n: Hello.
[02:12:26] Aval0n: Does Mythtv support the Ceton Infinitv4 fully now?
[02:12:38] Aval0n: even for non copy freely channels?
[02:13:11] sphery: MythTV can never support non-copy-freely channels
[02:13:15] RagingMind: Aval0n, it's not ever gonna support channels that are't copy-freely
[02:13:17] sphery: you can't do DRM in F/LOSS
[02:13:30] sphery: (otherwise, people could just patch it out)
[02:13:30] Aval0n: Thanks.
[02:13:41] Aval0n: Guess I'm stuck with media center
[02:13:50] sphery: or HD-PVR + STB
[02:14:10] Aval0n: yeah..
[02:14:14] sphery: or--and this is really thinking out of the box--vote with your wallet and drop cable since they won't let you use their service the way you want
[02:14:36] ** sphery has no cable and spends far less buying DVDs of the cable-only shows he likes than he would spend on a cable sub **
[02:14:59] Aval0n: Yeah, then I'm back to STB again
[02:15:06] sphery: granted, if you do cable for a sports or news network, then you're kind of stuck with STB + HD-PVR
[02:15:09] wagnerrp: Aval0n: who is your cable provider?
[02:15:13] Aval0n: cox
[02:15:32] Aval0n: and I kinda of already have a STB due to the tuning resolver
[02:15:32] sphery: are most of your channels copy-never?
[02:15:38] Aval0n: it's mixed
[02:15:40] sphery: (or copy once)
[02:15:57] Aval0n: some of the higher content channels are copy never
[02:16:03] sphery: just curious
[02:16:10] sphery: hadn't heard much about cox's policies
[02:16:21] Aval0n: yeah
[02:16:29] Aval0n: at least I got down to 1 STB now
[02:16:37] Aval0n: err tuning resolver
[02:16:41] Aval0n: I used to have to have two
[02:16:58] Aval0n: since they only supported two tuners at a time back then
[02:17:12] Aval0n: CISCO released a fw update that allowed up to 4 tuners.
[02:17:20] Aval0n: so I was able to ditch one
[02:17:34] Aval0n: Overall it's a pretty good system
[02:17:47] Aval0n: but I get MS sounds when I navigate
[02:17:50] Aval0n: and I loathe them
[02:18:09] wagnerrp: replace the sound files with empty wavs
[02:18:14] Aval0n: If I am going to be stuck to winbloze I'de at least prefer to be XBMC or media portal
[02:18:20] sphery: can't disable them--they don't have settings or themes for that?
[02:18:22] Aval0n: they are embedded
[02:18:29] Aval0n: not just .wavs somewhere
[02:18:38] Aval0n: ehres.dll
[02:18:39] Aval0n: in there
[02:18:43] wagnerrp: use one of those resource editor applications
[02:18:49] Aval0n: I've tried :)
[02:18:52] Aval0n: it borks it
[02:19:01] wagnerrp: probably breaks some checksum
[02:19:06] Aval0n: yeah
[02:19:08] wagnerrp: something intended to protect the content from you
[02:19:15] wagnerrp: ain't DRM grand?
[02:19:17] Aval0n: gotta love DRM
[02:19:28] sphery: after all, the most dangerous individual to a vendor is, in fact, the customer!
[02:19:39] Aval0n: yup
[02:19:55] Aval0n: ahh well I was hoping to give Myth another go
[02:19:57] sphery: thanks for making me happy that I don't have to worry about that
[02:20:02] Aval0n: but I figured DRM would still be the hold up
[02:20:11] Aval0n: M$ has the whole digital cable advisor and playready
[02:20:18] Aval0n: you're welcome :)
[02:20:28] sphery: and, yeah, it's too bad, but it will always be impossible to use copy-once and copy-never on "open" GNU/Linux systems
[02:20:38] wagnerrp: we would love to be of more use for copy protected content
[02:20:46] wagnerrp: but its just simply not in the realm of possibility
[02:20:52] Aval0n: yeah
[02:20:55] sphery: (versus TiVo or other closed systems--where "impossible" = even if someone hacked it, it would be a federal felony offense)
[02:21:16] Aval0n: right
[02:21:18] wagnerrp: as sphery indicated, DRM and open source are ideologically opposed
[02:21:26] Aval0n: Yeah
[02:21:27] Aval0n: so get this
[02:21:27] wagnerrp: they cant mix
[02:21:33] Aval0n: I have a new mobo/RAM/CPU
[02:21:36] Aval0n: read for my media center
[02:21:42] Aval0n: but I have been lazy about doing it
[02:21:46] Aval0n: because all my recorded shows
[02:21:48] wagnerrp: and you lost access to all your content
[02:21:49] Aval0n: will bork
[02:21:51] Aval0n: lol
[02:21:53] Aval0n: yeah
[02:21:57] sphery: ah, yeah... gotta love that
[02:22:00] Aval0n: gotta get through the shows first
[02:22:00] wagnerrp: there are complaints on the silicon dust forums about such things
[02:22:14] wagnerrp: its recognizes itself as a different machine
[02:22:17] sphery: which will be hard for you to do when you keep recording more
[02:22:24] Aval0n: indeed
[02:22:25] sphery: (especially with olympics and tour de france coming up!)
[02:22:30] Aval0n: :D
[02:22:34] Aval0n: hoping to have it done before that
[02:22:40] wagnerrp: and thus shuts everything in an attempt to prevent you from migrating the content to unauthorized hardware
[02:22:43] Aval0n: the infinitv4 is a great product though
[02:23:00] wagnerrp: dont the internal hard drives in the xbox do the same thing?
[02:23:03] Aval0n: too bad it's limited with DRM
[02:23:07] wagnerrp: you cannot move it to another unit?
[02:23:12] Aval0n: you have to hack them
[02:23:19] Aval0n: unclock/re-sign
[02:23:23] Aval0n: unlock&
[02:23:30] sphery: yeah, and for a better answer to your question, it's fully usable for copy-freely channels with MythTV, but not the final/proper implementation
[02:23:42] sphery: (the final implementation is in the works, but we have a shortcut in there for now)
[02:23:49] Aval0n: cool
[02:23:59] wagnerrp: the current implementation is a direct implementation of ceton's custom interface
[02:24:15] sphery: but even after the change, it will look pretty much identical to the user
[02:24:38] wagnerrp: the final implementation will be a generic OCUR implementation, and will be compatible with infinitv gear, hdhomeruns, dcr-2650s, and anything else that speaks OCUR
[02:24:42] Aval0n: who do you guys use for providers?
[02:24:48] wagnerrp: currently, insight
[02:24:56] Aval0n: STB?
[02:25:00] sphery: for me, OTA
[02:25:07] wagnerrp: nah, just cheesy mini-boxes
[02:25:11] Aval0n: I see
[02:25:26] Aval0n: I guess I could get a dish STB
[02:25:31] Aval0n: and demand one with firewire
[02:25:32] wagnerrp: hoping to move to fios, if they ever get around to pulling that fiber the last 500ft down my street
[02:25:36] wagnerrp: no such thing
[02:25:39] sphery: dish doesn't have any firewire ones
[02:25:43] sphery: dish means HD-PVR
[02:25:54] Aval0n: I thought fcc mandated firewal availability
[02:25:59] Aval0n: firewire*
[02:26:00] sphery: that was only for cable cos
[02:26:01] wagnerrp: satellite was never restricted by those FCC firewire rules like cable carriers
[02:26:10] Aval0n: jeebus
[02:26:10] sphery: because, of course, satellite and cable aren't competing
[02:26:17] sphery: only dish and directv compete with each other
[02:26:19] wagnerrp: cable and cable aren't competing
[02:26:25] sphery: and cable cos compete with each other
[02:26:25] Aval0n: directtv have firewire?
[02:26:26] wagnerrp: everyone has a local monopoly
[02:26:44] Aval0n: directv*
[02:26:47] sphery: no firewire for directv, either
[02:26:56] Aval0n: uhg
[02:27:04] sphery: I think they used to have a few boxes that supported firewire for channel change, but even that's gone
[02:27:17] Aval0n: lame
[02:27:20] justdave (justdave!~dave@unaffiliated/justdave) has joined #mythtv-users
[02:27:38] wagnerrp: no firewire, only serial over usb
[02:28:03] Aval0n: HD-PVR is just RGB correct?
[02:28:15] Aval0n: component
[02:28:39] wagnerrp: component != rgb
[02:28:45] Aval0n: yeah
[02:28:49] Aval0n: that's why I corrected
[02:28:50] Aval0n: :P
[02:28:59] Aval0n: I see it has hdmi too
[02:29:14] wagnerrp: nope, only component (and composite and svideo)
[02:29:22] Aval0n: you have people in here happy with their STB and HD-PVR setups?
[02:29:39] Aval0n: http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&a . . . 83&ty=34
[02:29:45] Aval0n: wow sorry for the long link
[02:29:56] Aval0n: that one is expensive though
[02:30:07] wagnerrp: i love the long links, never stop
[02:30:17] Aval0n: hehe
[02:30:24] wagnerrp: when people talk about the HDPVR, they specifically mean the hauppauge HDPVR
[02:30:33] Aval0n: Oh yeah
[02:30:38] wagnerrp: long links mean i can actually tell where im going
[02:30:39] Aval0n: I recotgnize that
[02:30:54] Aval0n: recognise
[02:30:55] wagnerrp: although technically there, its some other website routed through google
[02:31:52] Aval0n: ;)
[02:31:54] wagnerrp: still, better than some tiny url that is just as likely to send me to some goatse image, spinning and bouncing around my screen, to the music stylings of rick astley
[02:32:21] Aval0n: haha
[02:32:55] wagnerrp: in any case, HDMI is worthless to us
[02:33:04] Aval0n: I used to know a url for a 'GPS tracking by phone number' site.
[02:33:13] wagnerrp: HDCP this time.... DRM rearing its ugly head once more
[02:33:29] Aval0n: we told our co-worker you could find out where his wife was based on it's GPS locator.
[02:33:35] Aval0n: so he put in the number
[02:33:51] Aval0n: and because of the prefix and area code it zoomed in from space into his local city.
[02:33:57] Aval0n: 'WOW! It's really working'
[02:34:04] Aval0n: and as soon as it got close enough
[02:34:09] Aval0n: *BOOM* meatspin
[02:34:31] wagnerrp: meatspin.... dont think ive had the displeasure of seeing that one
[02:34:39] Aval0n: well
[02:34:56] Aval0n: do to your spinning and 'in the style of rick astly'
[02:34:59] Aval0n: I thought you did
[02:35:07] Aval0n: it's basically 2 men
[02:35:15] Aval0n: reverse cowboy
[02:35:41] Aval0n: as the top one bounces up and down while being penatrated, his penis spins in circles while the song... you spin me right round plays.
[02:36:08] Aval0n: I recognise that's not Rick Astley but same style. :)
[02:36:25] wagnerrp: yeah, a decade ago we had "worksucks"
[02:36:52] Aval0n: hmm..
[02:36:54] Aval0n: not familiar
[02:36:57] wagnerrp: just a simple javascript application that opened up nine windows of goatse in a 3x3 grid
[02:37:05] wagnerrp: and did that in a loop, 500 times
[02:37:07] Aval0n: oh
[02:37:08] Aval0n: haha
[02:37:11] Aval0n: woooops
[02:37:22] wagnerrp: and did that while blaring "hey everybody, im looking at gay porno"
[02:37:31] Aval0n: ahh you've just rung the bell
[02:37:35] Aval0n: I have infact witnessed this
[02:38:04] Aval0n: to this day I don't think I have seen anything worse that 1 man 1 cup
[02:38:11] wagnerrp: and you know those physicists, know how to use computers, but know f--- all about actually administering them
[02:38:22] wagnerrp: so we have these physics labs for physics 101
[02:38:57] wagnerrp: and were using these computers, ancient P3s or some such, internal speaker, no physical volume control of any sort, no real computer security
[02:39:19] wagnerrp: no one thinks to disable 'net send'
[02:39:28] wagnerrp: so you can flood messages to these things from anywhere on campus
[02:39:56] wagnerrp: so of course several people found it amusing to tell people to go to said web site
[02:40:25] wagnerrp: and after the second pass through the loop or so, those old pentiums were wasted
[02:40:48] wagnerrp: blaring this lo-fi audio recording, and absolutely no control to hit that volume control on the task bar
[02:41:23] Aval0n: haha

[16:04:50] brfransen: devinheitmueller: Saw your post about the 950q power analysis. Are any of the issues you are chasing down related to analog not working in myth .25?
[16:06:08] devinheitmueller: brfransen: some of these are reliability issues with analog, but not the issue with the referencing counting on the video device. Debugging that would require me to get a MythTV box setup.
[16:07:15] devinheitmueller: The reference count problem is almost certainly some API misuse that MythTV is doing which is being handled by other drivers but causes the au0828 to crap out.

[18:47:25] smoothifier: well, i'm running fedora so I suppose it's fairly sane

[18:48:58] smoothifier: i don't use atrpms so i wouldn't get into a dependency battle
[18:49:03] Sharky112065: Its certainly not easy. Ive been trying to get it compiled on Debian Squeeze. It compiles fine, but getting the no's on configure to be yes's is a bit of a pain

[19:28:34] wagnerrp: tvtime and mythtv operate in very different manners
[19:28:55] wagnerrp: tvtime just copies the raw frames right out of the capture device and right into the graphics card
[19:29:11] wagnerrp: "framegrabbers" are ideal for use in that manner, and in fact tvtime can only work with framegrabbers
[19:29:28] wagnerrp: mythtv must compress and store everything to disk, before reading it back off the disk and sending to the frontend
[19:29:41] wagnerrp: so it makes more sense for tuners to have hardware compressors
[19:29:41] devinheitmueller: daniel1: the dmesg doesn't show a driver issue (there's a problem people are seeing with regards to the driver's reference counting for the file handle, but there is no sign of that in your dmesg output).
[19:30:13] wagnerrp: can you try to get a traceback for this segfault?
[19:30:45] daniel1: sorry im not an expert. does that meen i need to run mythtv-setup in gdb and then use bt?
[19:30:55] daniel1: mean*
[19:31:04] wagnerrp: thats one option
[19:31:14] wagnerrp: depending on your system setup, segfaults will produce a core dump
[19:31:24] wagnerrp: and that core dump can be loaded into gdb after the fact to get a backtrace
[19:31:56] daniel1: okay. i'm on a fully updated arch linux box if that gives you any idea. i'll try using bt though

[19:38:13] ViperSBT: Hey guys, is there a Nvidia VPDAU capable AGP 8X card out there?
[19:39:05] ViperSBT: What would be a good AGP 8X card for HD?
[19:40:43] daniel1: okay, here's my output from gdb: www.pastebin.com/B2Bk2Yuf
[19:44:31] Sharky112065: Only newegg card is 6200 and not VPDAU .. for 8x AGP
[19:44:46] Sharky112065: so probably not
[19:46:04] ViperSBT: Yeah, it looks like AGP and VDPAU are not going to happen...
[19:46:37] ViperSBT: The MOBO the ATI card that I had in this box, just can't cut HD... So I need something that will... Any suggestions?
[19:46:46] Sharky112065: swap out your MB
[19:47:41] ViperSBT: So, there aren't any AGP cards that will handle HD?
[19:49:13] Sharky112065: ViperSBT: that I do not know. Im guessing not
[19:53:02] ViperSBT: Just trying to tunr this in to a F/E I guess I just need to go on the hunt for AGP cards...
[19:53:33] ViperSBT: Is there a particular spec to be looking for in a grpahics card? More memory = better?
[19:55:43] wagnerrp: there are plenty of AGP cards that will handle HD
[19:56:02] wagnerrp: there are no AGP cards mythtv can use for hardware decoding of video
[19:56:50] wagnerrp: of course if you're still using a 6yr old AGP system, it might be time to consider upgrading
[19:57:03] wagnerrp: 8yr?
[19:57:09] ViperSBT: That is why I was decommissioning this to a F/E only
[19:57:26] wagnerrp: some destop i built in late 2005 was PCIe
[19:57:54] ViperSBT: Then it may be easier to find a MB that will use the same processor, memory, etc. that will have PCIe on it...
[19:58:36] wagnerrp: not likely
[19:58:42] wagnerrp: socket a? DDR 1?
[19:58:43] ViperSBT: Argghhh
[19:58:58] wagnerrp: or one of the early 754s?
[19:59:17] wagnerrp: im not sure if anyone ever made 939s with AGP
[19:59:35] ViperSBT: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K9MM-V.html
[20:00:20] wagnerrp: wow, an AM2 with AGP
[20:00:29] wagnerrp: one really has to question why
[20:01:06] wagnerrp: well youll have better luck with AM2
[20:01:09] daniel1: wagnerrp, i'm using scheduledirect atm, running mythfilldatabse
[20:01:12] daniel1: we'll see how this goes
[20:01:29] wagnerrp: daniel1: you pulled a lineup in mythtv-setup?
[20:01:56] daniel1: yeah i put in my username/password then fetched channels from listing and it updated my starting channel to 1

[20:04:10] wagnerrp: if you get a chance at some point, it would still be worthwhile to open a ticket with that backtrace

Configure shows no for libfftw support. configure is looking in the file fftw3.h for fftw_init_threads. The new version on the fftw website (fftw 3.3.2) has fftw_init_threads, but it is in the file fftw3.f03.
[20:20:52] [R]: fftw3.f03 for a header makes absoutely no sense
