[00:22:53] tgm4883: Seems I'm doing something wrong here. On 0.25, I've downloaded some trailers on my backend and put them in my trailers storage group. I've told the frontend to play 2 random trailers before a movie and I've attempted starting the movie via "play with trailers", however it doesn't play any trailers (and doesn't start the movie either)
[00:23:14] tgm4883: There is no hesitation of it just staying at the mythvideo menu after I select play

[01:09:45] wagnerrp: firewire is somewhat hit or miss
[01:10:20] wagnerrp: even if your channels are marked "copy freely", there is no guarantee the box has firewire enabled, and the firmware is set up to selectively apply 5c encryption/handshaking
[01:15:31] hydester_: what is a good approach to figuring out if mythtv is good for me?
[01:16:14] russell5: i can tell you with fios firewire was a hassle and worked 1 out of 3 recordings
[01:17:23] hydester_: i got it to change the channel, but it didn't seem to record. i was only trying it since i thought it was a way to try the software without having to start spending money on a solution before i knew if it was worth it

[02:16:50] Twiggy2cents: sphery, you use vdpau dont you?
[02:17:01] wagnerrp: just for rendering
[02:17:33] sphery: exactly
[02:18:50] Twiggy2cents: I didnt check what my deint's were, but with vdpau normal on a nvidia 200 I had slow motion after skipping a large amount. It was very bad if it was a dvd. After switching to "High Quality"(no vdpau) I no longer have that issue
[02:19:13] Twiggy2cents: I was wondering if you have ever seen an issue like that or if it had to do with have a somewhat low powered card.
[02:19:49] sphery: yeah, I was having blockiness and pauses that disappeared when I went to an ffmpeg decode/vdpau render custom profile
[02:20:06] sphery: figure if the cpu can handle it--and it works better--why not
[02:20:35] Twiggy2cents: Why have vdpau render at all?
[02:20:41] sphery: it's a nice renderer
[02:20:47] sphery: and lower resource than opengl
[02:20:57] Twiggy2cents: I know that is a ongoing question.
[02:21:19] Twiggy2cents: I didnt check, what am I rendering with with the default High Quality profile?
[02:21:35] Twiggy2cents: Opengl is too taxing on my system I know that
[02:21:42] sphery: HQ would be Xv
[02:21:44] Twiggy2cents: I get screen tearing
[02:21:55] sphery: Xv = "render osd at video size, then scale to display size"
[02:22:01] sphery: which is really ugly for SDTV
[02:22:08] wagnerrp: brandon-dacrib: "retrieve all details" tells the bulk metadata downloader to run
[02:22:09] sphery: and rather ugly for 720p on a 1080p display
[02:22:17] wagnerrp: it will run once, and only ever once, on each video in your library
[02:22:28] Twiggy2cents: So I will try ffmpeg and vdpau
[02:22:29] wagnerrp: after which that video will be marked as processed, and skipped over if you run it again
[02:22:42] Twiggy2cents: That slow motion blocky crap was the only issue I was having
[02:22:49] brandon-dacrib: is there a way for me to run it manually against a single file
[02:22:57] brandon-dacrib: or all files in the video directory
[02:22:58] Twiggy2cents: I remember the osd issues you are talking about
[02:22:58] wagnerrp: it does the same thing as pressing 'w', but is a bit more selective if there are multiple results
[02:23:23] wagnerrp: thats exactly what it does, all the files in the video directories, once
[02:23:30] Twiggy2cents: sphery, do you do hw deint or sw?

[02:24:11] Twiggy2cents: Also what card do you have? I wanna get a little bit of a ballpark on this profile to help cut down on bouncing between that and video
[02:24:26] sphery: brandon-dacrib: INFO (space/enter)|Change Video Details|Retrieve Details to retrieve details on just one item
[02:24:37] brandon-dacrib: pressing w actually worked
[02:24:51] sphery: brandon-dacrib: might want to do reset details (same menu) first, to clear it
[02:24:55] wagnerrp: if pressing 'w' worked, then the bulk downloader should work as well
[02:25:03] wagnerrp: assuming there was only one result autoselected when you pressed 'w'
[02:25:06] sphery: yeah, w is the same as INFO|Change Video Details|Retrieve Details
[02:25:21] wagnerrp: if there were multiple results, and it asked you to choose, the bulk downloader would skip that one
[02:25:44] wagnerrp: note that the bulk downloader will slowly go through and update things in the background
[02:25:45] brandon-dacrib: thank you wagnerrp

[02:30:13] sphery: Twiggy2cents: the 1x because it says it can't do 2x because my refresh is just under 2x of video frame rate, so it says it can't do 2x
[02:30:18] sphery: it seems fine to me
[02:30:28] wagnerrp: if youve got the disk space, just grab some ripper, copy the m2ts to somewhere in your video library, and never touch the disc again

[03:03:29] CyberKnet: I have no idea why.
[03:03:40] CyberKnet: It seems to be when the backend is the most busy
[03:04:04] CyberKnet: so either back to back recordings, or many recordings at once ... but I rarely see it happen as it happens... I find out about it later.
[03:04:42] CyberKnet: once it gets into a bad state, only a reboot will fix it.
[03:06:41] CyberKnet: I'd think it has to be some kind of kernel problem ... the weird pattern I indicated on some of the failed recordings seems to hint at it ... but I wouldn't even know where to start.
[03:11:15] sphery: CyberKnet: someone on a ticket said they have had good results from giving "real time" io priority to mythbackend

[03:12:18] sphery: that theory seems to fit with your "when...most busy" sympton

[03:39:23] CyberKnet: sphery: Hmmm... the 0.25 bit is the same with me too
[03:39:32] CyberKnet: sphery: it's worth a try, for sure.
[03:39:47] sphery: CyberKnet: let us know if it helps
[03:40:02] sphery: may have just been changes to the underlying system... did you upgrade the distro at the same time?
[03:40:10] sphery: maybe a recent move to 12.04 or something?
[03:40:19] CyberKnet: hmmm... no, it happened way before my move to 12.04
[03:40:33] sphery: hmmm
[03:40:36] CyberKnet: I think I upgraded to dev at some point in time before 0.25 release
[03:41:27] CyberKnet: I upgraded to 12.04 to see if it would resolve the issue.
[03:41:31] CyberKnet: It did not. (obviously)
[03:41:55] CyberKnet: I saw something in google searches related to missed interrupts or something ...
[03:42:06] CyberKnet: but I wasn't smart enough to comprehend what I was reading
[03:42:30] CyberKnet: the bottom line I took from it was that perhaps the IO bus was overloaded, and packets were getting dropped which pushed the card into a bad state
[03:42:43] CyberKnet: again ... I wasn't smart enough to comprehend what I was reading sorry.
[03:42:55] CyberKnet: I believe it was on a v4l list.
