[00:05:15] Twiggy2cents: arg wagnerrp will reindexing fix audio sync?
[00:05:41] Twiggy2cents: This trouble dvd now plays and has the correct times from tsmuxer but the audio is off by ~330ms
[00:06:19] wagnerrp: the whole video is off by 330ms?
[00:06:37] wagnerrp: often times, the audio and video is stored on those things with an offset
[00:06:47] wagnerrp: which you have to make sure to carry forward when reprocessing
[00:06:53] wagnerrp: 330ms is not unreasonable
[00:08:29] Twiggy2cents: So 1/3 of a second off is reasonable?
[00:08:57] Twiggy2cents: I only did a section of the video
[00:09:01] wagnerrp: ive seen movies with stored offsets that large
[00:09:21] wagnerrp: however it really is a value stored in the PS container
[00:09:29] Twiggy2cents: On a side note, what would make the playback slow for a second or two after a large skip?
[00:09:51] Twiggy2cents: Separate fe/be
[00:09:56] wagnerrp: and often times, when you feed the VOB into some other editing program, it will read that offset, and automatically know to maintain it during further processing
[00:10:29] wagnerrp: not sure
[00:10:44] Twiggy2cents: Well it is a movie we wont watch very often, I think that I will just live with it and adjust the audio sync

[03:39:14] dekarl: wagnerrp: it depends. over here you get all the public channels plus some private ones http://www.lyngsat.com/hd/Astra-1H-1KR-1L-1M-2C.html Obviously Astra is trying to shove down their HD+ DRM scheme down your throat which some private stations do like. (they ruined their own market by going 100% ad supported and now want more money then people are willing to pay. so they need to perform some tricks)
[03:39:14] dekarl: Which means you get the big private stations in SD only but all public stations and the smaller private ones in HD. If you move over to austria/switzerland its different as the smaller german countries have to encrypt (CI without +/DRM) because they pay way less licenses for the content and they run the same dubbed shows as the big private stations from german on their public stations which would canibalize the private stations market share

[03:56:46] dekarl: so yes, DVB-S2 without CI/CI+ is useful. But DVB-S2 with CI (no plus) and an austrian card is way more useful as you get what you are used to, but without ad breaks. Obviously thats only legal for the 1 million austrian satelite users. With DVB-S2 and CI+ (DRM) I have no idea if the offer already is differentiating between actual usage of DRM so open source can at least get the "copy freely" channels. Nor do I know what DRM flags the statio

[04:05:44] wagnerrp: ah, i had forgotten all about freesat
[04:06:11] dekarl: a quick google run hints that everbody just breaks their DRM in various more or less legal ways. Which I do understand as people got used to "everything for free" from the tv stations in the last 30 years.
[04:06:43] dekarl: ^- usually less...
[04:08:41] wagnerrp: i would expect for every user doing it for legitimate (if not legal) reasons, there are at least ten more doing it to bypass a subscription
[04:09:30] dekarl: of course. thats the whole point of the HD+ stuff. to get people used to subscriptions which is uncommon over here and hard to get market share with
[04:09:51] wagnerrp: and to be honest, i wonder how many people are using css/aacs/bd+ strippers to copy movie rentals
[04:09:54] dekarl: they advertise with "hook them with prepaid subscriptions that come with the new tv" and stuff
[04:10:10] wagnerrp: especially considering im on the opposite side of that equation on that one
[04:10:30] dekarl: the companies themselves ruined their market and now are trying for the Nth time to establish pay tv in germany...

[04:15:22] Valen: quick question, I had a SSD floating about so i had the idea of making / the SSD and leaving all the recordings on spinning disks that can then be spun down. All works fairly well but when browsing recordings all the disks wind up spinning up to show the preview images. Is there a way (perhaps a storage group) to tell myth where to put the preview images so i can keep them on the SSD? My google fu seems to be lacking the close
[04:15:38] Valen: at the moment my best idea (which is bad) is to make a 1gb partition on the SSD add it to the recording groups then sweep through the recordings directories and move all the images into it
[04:15:45] Valen: but that just feels *really* nasty
[04:16:34] wagnerrp: not currently, no
[04:17:01] wagnerrp: previews must be in the same folder as the recording
[04:17:20] wagnerrp: of course thats really something we should do...
[04:17:28] wagnerrp: no reason why it would even be very difficult
[04:17:31] Valen: thats unfortunate lol
[04:17:50] Valen: that is fortunate
[04:18:41] dekarl: Which reminds me that xmltv config files and channel icons are not written to a SG either.
[04:18:48] wagnerrp: you could potentially wrap mythpreviewgen with some script that takes the generated images, moves them into some other folder, and symlinks back to them
[04:19:15] Valen: it'd probably still spin up the drive to read the symlink though
[04:19:22] wagnerrp: although im not sure if symlinks would be cached any longer than other files

[04:19:50] wagnerrp: dekarl: no reason for xmltv config files to exist anywhere other than the master backend
[04:20:02] wagnerrp: so there should be no need to put them in a SG
[04:20:13] wagnerrp: just leave then in the home directory
[04:20:20] dekarl: wagnerrp: I was thinking more in terms of which users home the MYTHCONFDIR was in...
[04:20:45] wagnerrp: channel icons are in a SG IIRC, just not a configurable one
[04:20:56] wagnerrp: anyone know if knightr has a cat?
[04:21:04] dekarl: running the backend with a backend user, but setup / MFDB with your frontend user makes for lots of setup fun

[04:22:47] Valen: (as in how does the preview get back into myth)
[04:22:52] wagnerrp: if it doesnt find one, it calls mythpreviewgen
[04:23:01] dekarl: and the icons get stored in MYTHCONFDIR, too. which has a SG defined but they are stored as absolute local paths in the database. Adding the two user accounts makes for some fun there, too

[05:12:02] wagnerrp: dekarl: do you know if we have a key?
[05:12:23] dekarl: our art grabbers are written in Python, fanart.tv has art that is referenced by the same primary keys as our existing metadata/art grabbers
[05:12:42] Valen: whats it for?
[05:12:46] dekarl: oh, they do require a key now...
[05:13:05] dekarl: valen, it would give theme creators some more image kinds to integrate into a nice GUI
[05:13:08] wagnerrp: if its a simple enough format, i could throw the tmdb3 framework at it and have a grabber banged out in an hour or two
[05:13:25] Valen: i mean at a lower level, what does it do lol

[05:14:42] dekarl: its just pictures that follow a common convention wrt art style
[05:14:54] wagnerrp: would need to put together something to combine sources
[05:15:13] wagnerrp: or redesign the metadata framework within mythtv to accept multiple sources
[05:15:31] wagnerrp: the latter would probably be better in the long run
[05:15:53] wagnerrp: guess ill go register a key then
[05:15:57] Valen: it sounds like you like making work for yourself lol
[05:15:58] dekarl: aye, you hinted about a wrapper to extend the exisiting grabbers with more metadata when I was asking about it the last time... I've looked at Pyhton since then and failed :)
[05:16:34] wagnerrp: well i probably hinted that was the only way it could be interfaced with the current framework
[05:17:30] dekarl: yes. while I was thinking that it might make sense to extend the existing grabbers to grab data for the same key from the new site. (which is a work around, too. just the other way around)
[05:18:16] wagnerrp: something wrapping the existing tmdb[3].py grabbers, or hitting the respective libraries directly, and combining it with this data would be much faster in the short term
[05:18:25] wagnerrp: but it would still be better to allow multiple sources
[05:20:44] wagnerrp: how is "php" a supported format?
[05:21:12] wagnerrp: oh, it uses their internal serialization format

[19:28:35] skd5aner: Beirdo: so, removed the hdpvr killer, and used the "new" power supply – no issues with recordings in 2 days and over 9 recordings
[19:28:44] skd5aner: before I was at about an 80% fail rate
[19:29:34] Beirdo: it's likely your old power supply then
[19:29:38] Beirdo: :)
[19:29:56] skd5aner: yup! most likely
[19:30:06] Beirdo: and sometimes, I've had to completely remove the hdpvr driver when things get really confused
[19:30:17] skd5aner: I knew that in the past hauppauge had replaced some of the early ones because they used those defective plastic caps
[19:30:42] Beirdo: my motherboard doesn't appreciate me poiwercycling the USB device so often
[19:31:04] skd5aner: you might want to try a new power supply and see if you have any luck
[19:31:28] Beirdo: maybe. It's actually not too bad
