[06:54:19] wagnerrp: theres TFX, which is a much smaller version

[06:57:18] wagnerrp: see Flex ATX
[06:57:23] fryguy: mmk
[06:57:49] fryguy: and, totally unrelated, but what do you think about llano instead of i3? llano seems to be substantially cheaper, and should still have enough horsepower, right?
[06:58:25] fryguy: (would still get a real nvidia card and not use the built-in stuff)
[06:58:52] wagnerrp: why buy a llano if youre getting a discrete video card?
[06:59:34] fryguy: because it's substanially cheaper than i3
[07:00:50] wagnerrp: which one are you looking at specifically?
[07:02:17] fryguy: probably like a4–3400 (dual core 2.7ghz, 65w)
[07:02:28] fryguy: $66 on newegg
[07:02:35] fryguy: compared to the cheapest i3, which is like 120
[07:03:14] peterpops (peterpops!~peter@90-229-138-253-no195.tbcn.telia.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[07:03:57] wagnerrp: compared to a G630, 2.7GHz, $75
[07:04:14] fryguy: not an i3 though, just a plain pentium
[07:04:19] fryguy: doesn't matter i'm assuming?
[07:04:23] wagnerrp: whats the difference?
[07:04:44] fryguy: not much I guess
[07:05:03] fryguy: I guess I was just looking at i3 because you told me to :)
[07:05:19] fryguy: wasn't sure if lower spec processors would still handle 1080p w/o gpu accel
[07:09:19] wagnerrp: the G8xx are basically an i3 with AVX extensions and 3D rendering disabled
[07:09:38] wagnerrp: the G6xx has a slower L3 cache than the G8xx
[07:10:02] fryguy: things I typically won't notice on a front-end.
[07:10:10] wagnerrp: AVX is basically next generation of SSE
[07:10:50] fryguy: if I want to start doing transcoding stuff, i'll have the 6-core 16gb ram backend to take care of it. so maybe i'll check out pentiums instead of i3s
[07:11:23] wagnerrp: if youre getting a discrete graphics card, youre not losing anything of value
[07:11:44] wagnerrp: if youre using onboard, i assume the integrated GPU still supports opengl
[07:11:51] wagnerrp: it just apparently wont do anything 3D
[07:11:59] wagnerrp: which mythtv does not use at the moment
[07:12:26] fryguy: i think it makes the most sense to just get a $30 nvidia card (found a nice low-profile geforce 210), so i have full easy accel of stuff, with a somewhat weaker cpu than to try to do it all in 1
[07:13:36] wagnerrp: well the advantage of it being all in one is that... its all in one
[07:13:46] wagnerrp: meaning you can get a very flat case, with no room for expansion
[07:13:50] wagnerrp: since you dont need it
[07:13:56] wagnerrp: just a board, fan, and PSU
[07:14:23] ** wagnerrp goes to bed **

[16:34:04] wagnerrp: i dont think we do html5 video in mythbrowser yet
[16:34:06] trumee: maybe xbmc downloads the videos in the background and uses its own player for youtube.
[16:34:35] clever: wagnerrp: but you can still scrape the <video> tag out and then just play the video directly, no browser at all
[16:35:01] stuartm: wagnerrp: I'm not seeing it atm, I'll keep looking though
[16:35:04] clever: and with all the ffmpeg code, you wont have any of the codec trouble firefox has

[16:35:28] wagnerrp: stuartm: i scrapped it, truncated the spaces from the mysql result, and resent it
[16:36:08] wagnerrp: trumee: correct, downloads, you cant do that

[16:36:56] stuartm: wagnerrp: ah, that will be why I can't see it then :)
[16:37:04] clever: i often wget the <video src=...> url, firefox just hangs up too much and i love mplayer
[16:37:34] wagnerrp: the youtube grabber offers an API for limited control of the player through javascript
[16:37:35] clever: they cant really stop you, not without going back to flash (which performs even worse)
[16:38:05] wagnerrp: as well as wraps the video object in its own webpage, such that you get only the flash player and video, without the whole youtube page
[16:38:16] wagnerrp: AIUI, it should default to full screen
[16:38:32] wagnerrp: im trying to find the API definitions in our grabber currently...
[16:38:37] clever: wagnerrp: ive never seen that wraping on the main youtube.com site
[16:38:46] trumee: wagnerrp: any idea how xbmc does it so nicely?
[16:38:47] clever: i can just pull the .src out with a single line of DOM code in the console
[16:39:12] wagnerrp: trumee: if they are downloading, then theyre cheating
[16:39:35] clever: wagnerrp: the linux flash player saves all videos to /tmp/, even when 'streaming'
[16:39:43] wagnerrp: beyond that, either you use the javascript API to control it
[16:40:03] trumee: wagnerrp: the experience with mythnetvision is poor compared with xbmc.
[16:40:05] wagnerrp: or they may have a mechanism to define certain mouse controls for certain actions

[16:42:56] wagnerrp: it goes full screen
[16:43:06] wagnerrp: and allows play/pause, volume, and seeking control
[16:43:06] clever: ah, no html5 at all then
[16:43:54] wagnerrp: trumee: unless we get specific allowance from youtube (or any other content provider) to download, we will not download and play directly
[16:44:08] wagnerrp: we play by their ToS

[19:04:57] uh992k: although everything else tells me it would be recorded
[19:05:14] wagnerrp: do you have your media library filtered?
[19:05:37] wagnerrp: what do the backend logs say?
[19:06:03] uh992k: hmm ... I'll have a look into it ... 1mom
[19:06:27] stuartm: uh992k: restart the backend just in case, so that you don't lose the recording entirely in the event that it's not recording it now

[19:09:43] uh992k: but obviously, it isn't recording
[19:09:51] uh992k: I'll delete the rule and try it again

[19:11:35] wagnerrp: no mention of the recording failing?
[19:12:03] uh992k: no
[19:12:05] wagnerrp: there is a mechanism where livetv recordings shorter than some length are deleted in just a few minutes
[19:12:09] uh992k: and it can't be stopped
[19:12:14] wagnerrp: maybe its getting a false positive on that
[19:12:27] uh992k: hmm ... strange
[19:12:34] uh992k: but it's the first time something like this happens
[19:12:35] wagnerrp: just checking the length/size, rather than whether it is actually a livetv session

[19:13:31] uh992k: lol
[19:13:59] stuartm: wow, rental DVD here that's unplayable in mythfrontend so I stuck it in MakeMKV just to see what it would do and it's also choking, 99 titles on disc first 5 are garbage (which trips up mythfrontend), then ~93 are between 4 -12 seconds, leaving just the title and a couple of extras
[19:14:17] stuartm: uh992k: restart the backend, clearly it's badly screwed up somehow

[19:29:17] stuartm: very annoying DVD, but I'm tempted to play around and see if I get mythfrontend to play these 'broken' DVDs by taking the same strategy as MakeMKV which seems to eventually decide to ignore the first 5 and last 5 titles – no idea why those ones, but maybe they know a lot more about the protection than I do

[19:32:38] sphery: stuartm: that's likely "structural DVD protection"
[19:33:13] sphery: stuartm: meaning that there are errors in the content in those titles and when played by a proper player, the IFOs and nav packets direct the player around the bad stuff
[19:33:38] sphery: when you try to rip or something, it would try to get the bad stuff and error
[19:34:34] stuartm: sphery: aye, it's structural, but the problem is that we're trusting the IFOs and they are apparently 'corrupt', as are the BUP, so a commercial dvd player must be doing something else that we're not
[19:35:22] sphery: yeah, not exactly sure how it all works, but it's a dirty trick the studios are using more and more
[19:36:13] stuartm: reading around, apparently we wouldn't be having the same problem if we just ignored the nav packets (some players will fallback to just plain reads instead as a workaround)
[19:36:56] stuartm: unfortunately our ordinary DVD read code got replaced when libdvdnav and nav reading support was added, I'm not about to try and restore it
[19:38:06] stuartm: still, some of those IFO must be good, so it's really just a question of trying another title when we hit an error maybe
[19:39:17] stuartm: either that or our nav support is incomplete and just needs extending
[19:40:35] stuartm: anyway, the real irony is that this 'copy protection' method has just made me do something I wouldn't have done otherwise, I've had to rip the disc just to play it ...
[19:40:38] sphery: were you the one saying that the updated libdvdnav has some fixes for that?

[19:41:09] sphery: if so, might be worth re-syncing
[19:41:47] stuartm: sphery: turns out that change wasn't enough on it's own, it improved the ability to recover from an error but it was still the applications responsibility to keep trying which we fail to do
[19:42:38] stuartm: there's only been that one commit since our last sync, some documentation changes but in total libdvdnav has seen very little activity in the last 12 months
