[02:37:37] MTughan: MythTV 0.24 on Mythbuntu 10.04 LTS. Playback profile is set to VDPAU. Is it possible to have auto-detecting zoom for video playback?
[02:40:35] hadees (hadees!~hadees@72-48-211-16.dyn.grandenetworks.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[02:41:51] jya: MTughan: not entirely sure what you mean, by default the video plays full screen and scale to whatever resolution your screen is configured for.
[02:41:58] jya: is this what you call "zoom" ?
[02:42:58] MTughan: jya: Yeah, that works as expected (it's using DVI->HDMI to a 1080p TV). But there's a setting in the playback to "zoom" the content further. Say you've got a letterboxed 4:3 source playing back on a 16:9 TV. The fill can strip out the letterboxing and fill the actual 16:9 content to the rest of the screen.
[02:43:11] MTughan: There's supposed to be an auto-detect for that, but it doesn't seem to be working.
[02:45:21] [R]: pretty sure anything that detects things based on the video would imply myth was decoding the video, seeing as the video card is decoding it...
[02:46:25] MTughan: I was wondering if that was still the case. I had found bugs filed against 0.22 for problems with that and VDPAU, but I didn't know if anyone had worked with it since then.
[02:48:20] wagnerrp: yes, that is still the case
[02:48:33] wagnerrp: if you want auto-fill to function, you need to use the software decoder
[02:51:32] MTughan: Okay, I'll see what kind of performance the software decoder gives us then. Thanks.

[03:42:15] sphery: Hydr0p0nX: you want to do 1 mythtv-setup channel scan per /video source/, not per capture card
[03:42:22] sphery: (not sure how many sources you have)
[03:42:36] sphery: it's possible that scanning on top of another scan could cause problems...
[03:51:47] Hydr0p0nX: so, do 1 scan, save/exit restart mythtv-setup ?
[03:52:37] Hydr0p0nX: then do another scan  ?
[03:53:10] sphery: my recommendation if you've already done 2 scans is to: a) mythtv-setup|Video Sources|Delete all video sources (and not "Delete all video sources on <hostname>"), then re-create the video source, then re-connect input(s), and scan for channels while connecting the first input
[03:53:28] sphery: that clears out whatever is in there, then ensures it's set up correctly
[03:53:50] sphery: chances are you just need one video source (assuming both cards record from the same source of video--antenna, cable, ...)
[03:54:03] sphery: and then you connect that one source to inputs on both cards

[04:48:53] jpabq: sphery, wagnerrp, one of my frontends (that I rarely use) does not prompt on 'Esc' from mythfrontend. In the settings it is configured to show "Show quit, reboot and shutdown", but instead it just exits to the desktop. In the DB, I see NoPromptOnExit=1, but that is true for my other frontend and it does not have that problem. Any ideas?
[04:49:42] wagnerrp: as i understand it, that option no longer exists
[04:49:53] wagnerrp: are you sure its not segfaulting?
[04:52:16] jpabq: wagnerrp, when I run it from a terminal, it seems to exit without any errors. It does complain about a time difference of 48 seconds, though
[04:57:46] sphery: jpabq: yeah, if you want a prompt, you should map the exit key to Main Menu/EXITPROMPT. If you don't want a prompt, map it to Main Menu/EXIT
[04:58:13] sphery: (and note that you can use different keys and map both so you can choose exit with or without prompt)
[04:58:31] sphery: so, like Esc = EXITPROMPT and Alt+Esc = EXIT (no prompt)
[04:58:57] jpabq: sphery, Ah. I didn't even think about it being a key binding issue. I will check that out. Thanks.

[17:50:07] bcgrown: ertyu-m, yes
[17:50:22] ertyu-m: what box are you having troubles with?
[17:50:43] ertyu-m: just for curiosity sake as I'm looking towards doing the same thing
[17:53:00] bcgrown: ertyu-m, Motorola DCT6412 III. It works fine on HD channels. I haven't even tried to get the second tuner working though
[17:53:14] bcgrown: i'm wondering if I just need a second firewire cable to activate the 2nd tuner?
[17:53:44] bcgrown: ertyu-m, I had a DCT6200 on Novus and every channel worked flawlessly. of course Shaw refuses to activate it on their system
[17:54:19] ertyu-m: I have a 6200 from comcast, that I got shaw to activate back in the brief window when they would do that
[17:54:37] ertyu-m: I didn't think you could get two tuners out firewire
[17:55:45] bcgrown: ertyu-m, it's such a load of BS. they say they can't activate it because it's not in their inventory. Well you could like, you know, ADD IT... but that doesn't make any money for them so I guess they can't
[17:55:52] bcgrown: ertyu-m, no idea about the dual tuners
[17:56:46] ertyu-m: they won't activate them because they don't want to, not because they can't, although there probably are cases where they can't because the software they run is so varied, and also because they can't verify its not stolen from another provider
[17:57:44] bcgrown: ertyu-m: the theft thing is one issue, but doesn't the box download a new firmware as soon as they activate it? shouldn't be an issue if it's the exact same model as the ones they sell, I would think

[18:00:08] ertyu-m: CRTC refuses to regulate this, I complained to them again recently about it
[18:00:45] bcgrown: CRTC refuses to regulate anything really don't they?
[18:01:00] ertyu-m: at least we have some choice these days, shaw shaw bell or mts here
[18:01:09] ertyu-m: and shaw or mts for internet
[18:04:00] bcgrown: out here it's shaw or telus for TV, although if you're in the city there are a bunch of choices for internet
[18:04:13] bcgrown: of course to get telus TV you need to have telus internet since it's all IPTV

[19:59:55] sphery: pyrodex: I think the only reason you had no manualid = 0 is because it wasn't adding new data--likely there were no updates since last time you ran mfdb
[19:59:56] pyrodex: my program count decreased to 122307
[20:00:11] sphery: yes, you deleted 10 days worth of history
[20:00:12] pyrodex: sphery: I've been seeing this issue for a few days.
[20:00:38] pyrodex: Well week+ just was able to report it fully today
[20:01:01] sphery: and, yes, --dd-grab-all clears all existing data and populates the table with whatever data we get now
[20:01:26] sphery: it forces it to get data for all days rather than just tomorrow and +13 (ish)
[20:01:43] pyrodex: thats what I thought but I guess it doesn't do a full truncate?
[20:01:47] sphery: no
[20:01:52] sphery: we keep 10 days of history
[20:01:57] pyrodex: ok
[20:01:58] sphery: so you can find out why programs didn't record
[20:02:33] sphery: i.e. "Oh, looking at the schedule from last Thursday, I see that it couldn't record X because there were 5 other better shows on."
[20:03:00] pyrodex: understood
[20:03:56] sphery: (losing the history isn't a big deal--it would have been deleted, anyway, when it hit 10 days old)
[20:04:08] sphery: it's not "permanent" history, just temporary "what was on, then"
[20:04:32] pyrodex: I don't use that function personally. I don't have a frontend in my environment (yet). Just using the backend + mythbox (xbmc) to watch recordings only
[20:04:38] pyrodex: so no loss at the moment.
[20:04:56] sphery: well, mythweb would also show you what was on then in the listings
[20:05:14] pyrodex: Yup but I never check listings :).
