[16:24:15] wagnerrp: (both sound like men's names to me)
[16:25:13] mazda01: anyone in here familiar with a similar setup? XBMC 10.1 GIT:E9E9099, Mythtv 0.23.1+fixes and Mythbox 1.04
[16:25:32] mazda01: all running on an apple tv
[16:25:42] mazda01: well, except MythTV obviously
[16:26:00] wagnerrp: except.. not mythtv, youre running xbmc
[16:26:17] wagnerrp: of course both of which are next to useless on an appletv
[16:26:34] mazda01: i understand this channel is for Mythtv, i was just trying to see if anyone ran a similar setup to possibly help.
[16:27:27] mazda01: i am attempting to replace my ancient original xbox which is modded with XBMC and runs the myth:// protocol WITH this new apple tv setup but I am FAILING hard
[16:28:10] mazda01: I understand if no one can assist as I am aware XBMC and Mythbox are not supported by the MythTV channel
[16:28:28] mazda01: just thought it couldn't hurt to ask
[16:28:40] mazda01: or maybe it could  :-)
[16:28:53] wagnerrp: new appletv or old appletv?
[16:29:16] mazda01: old
[16:29:24] wagnerrp: not worth messing with
[16:29:40] mazda01: it it however running the latest OS 3.0.2 for it.
[16:29:54] mazda01: wagnerrp, may I ask why it's not worth it in your opinion?
[16:30:18] wagnerrp: even if it has enough graphical power to run XBMC's opengl UI
[16:30:26] wagnerrp: they no longer support that form of hardware decoding
[16:30:27] mazda01: wagnerrp, i know the new apple tv is now $99 so if you can help me understand I could pop for the new apple tv 2
[16:30:32] wagnerrp: meaning youre stuck CPU only
[16:30:49] wagnerrp: and youre not going to do much on a 1GHz Pentium M
[16:31:04] mazda01: wagnerrp, i have no HD files to stream though.
[16:31:05] wagnerrp: standard definition MPEG2, and very low bitrate H264
[16:31:37] mazda01: wagnerrp, i still view xvid because currently the old xbox can't stream h264 codec, must be too much for the CPU.
[16:31:41] wagnerrp: two years after the transition and you still havent sprung for a digital tuner?
[16:32:05] mazda01: wagnerrp, i don't have a lot of money rasising a wife and 2 kids. :-(

[16:33:02] mazda01: wagnerrp, 2 years after the transition...........oh, referring to digital tv transmission?
[16:33:23] wagnerrp: actually the transition happened 6+ years ago in most markets
[16:33:29] wagnerrp: analog was just shut off two years ago
[16:33:40] mazda01: wagnerrp, yeah, when I get money i'll be getting a hdhomerun also. so you're saying the apple tv (old) just won't be able to stream those recorded shows?
[16:33:54] wagnerrp: neither can
[16:34:02] wagnerrp: the old one because its not powerful enough
[16:34:10] mazda01: wagnerrp, thats what I don't understand. I still get channel 3–99 on my PVR-350 and PVR-500 tuners
[16:34:30] wagnerrp: and the new one because apple locks down the capability of the hardware decoder for reasons unknown
[16:34:43] wagnerrp: xbmc only works because they hacked together support for some undocumented decoding api
[16:34:49] mazda01: and I don't even pay for cable. TWC never came out and put a filter on the line so I am guessing since I pay for internet service that the analog tv signal is still coming thru the line
[16:34:57] wagnerrp: there are no longer any analog broadcast stations
[16:35:02] wagnerrp: cable can do whatever they want
[16:35:13] wagnerrp: but they are rapidly dropping analog because it is expensive (in bandwidth) to run
[16:35:42] mazda01: wagnerrp, so you're saying 1 day i could turn on my tv's in my house and only get snow where as today I get 3–99 channels
[16:36:53] mazda01: wagnerrp, ok, in your opinion what is the best compact frontend for running XBMC/MythTV frontend? Do you have an opinion on that?

[17:57:18] MrPaco: i have to do it before to flag?
[17:57:50] wagnerrp: commercial flagging creates a skiplist, while clipping in mythtranscode uses a cutlist
[17:58:18] wagnerrp: they are intentionally kept independent as the flagger is not reliable enough to clip recordings without checking the results first

Still bugs me a bit that I'm in the moderation queue in a way that it appears like the post is gone without any hint on "awainting moderation" or "post denied for <reason>" or anything. (Or did I dream that and the internet ate it? who knows)
[21:37:26] wagnerrp: moderation... at mythtvtalk?
[21:37:59] dekarl: yeah, I replied pointing out that they should open their eyes and stop making fun of devs and mods and got some "this'n'that moderation" message that I can't remember
[21:38:36] wagnerrp: probably only matters for the first couple messages
[21:40:45] dekarl: That's what I think, too. But what a lousy idea of yet another hoop to jump trough :( It's not as if I've already had captchas and mail verification at that point (and recaptcha actually being quite good at it)
[21:42:32] dekarl: Hmm, been ranting about bad user interaction to much this week at work. Maybe I've got my nerves on the edge on such topics...
[21:43:47] wizbit_: this is what happens when i boot my joggler with slackware: http://imageshack.us/f/820/img1637pe.jpg/
[21:44:08] wagnerrp: hehehe
[21:44:12] wagnerrp: "Trouble ahead"
[21:44:13] wizbit_: the fstab and initrd look ok
[21:44:15] wagnerrp: woderful...
[21:44:36] wizbit_: sda3 was used when it was running ubuntu
[21:45:43] wagnerrp: it probably still is
[21:46:00] wagnerrp: boot/swap/root is a common partition layout in modern distros
[21:46:16] wagnerrp: but your initrd does not appear to have a /mnt path for it to mount to
[21:46:25] wagnerrp: so it doesnt get mounted
[21:46:36] wagnerrp: and your initrd has no error checking to fault out
[21:46:45] wagnerrp: causing pivot_root to tail
[21:46:46] wagnerrp: fail
[21:47:25] wizbit_: wagnerrp: i need to create a /mnt path in the initrd fstab?
[21:47:34] wizbit_: if it has one
[21:47:39] wagnerrp: no, you need to create a /mnt in the initrd
[21:47:47] wizbit_: oh im sure its got one
[21:47:51] ** wizbit_ checks **
[21:47:59] wagnerrp: clearly not, based off the error
[21:48:33] wizbit_: /tmp/joggler/boot/initrd-tree/mnt
[21:48:38] wizbit_: it exists!
[21:48:42] wizbit_: but there is nothing inside it
[21:52:52] dougl: netflix is no longer supported in mythth on ubuntu?
[21:53:25] wagnerrp: dougl: im going to say that is completely false
[21:54:14] wagnerrp: mere semantics, netflix was never supported in mythtv on ubuntu
[21:56:22] dougl: err – does that mean netflix will not work? I am reading a howto that says it does?
[21:57:19] [R]: lol
[21:58:24] dougl: c'mon... dumb it up for the guy thats half in the bag on friday afternood :)
[21:58:32] dougl: noon
[21:59:00] [R]: [03:54:13] +wagnerrp mere semantics, netflix was never supported in mythtv on ubuntu
[21:59:04] [R]: how much more dumb can we get?
[21:59:57] dougl: ok – I should interpret not supported to not functional... thank you :)
[22:00:52] dougl: too bad tho... it also said could access mythtv from ps3 – also false?
[22:01:01] wagnerrp: through UPnP, yes
[22:01:07] wagnerrp: but there is no live transcoding at current
[22:01:20] wagnerrp: meaning your content must exist on disk in a format the PS3 can understand
[22:01:23] AndyCap: works ok for me recording from DVB
[22:01:43] wagnerrp: digital recordings in a TS container should work fine
[22:02:02] dougl: very good – thanks alot for all the info.
[22:02:34] wagnerrp: dougl: if you were referring to 'mythflix', that was just a crude list to allow you to manage your netflix queue
[22:02:48] wagnerrp: it had nothing to do with netflix instant
[22:03:10] wagnerrp: netflix requires silverlight, which is not available on linux
[22:03:15] wagnerrp: only OSX and Windows
[22:03:35] wagnerrp: in theory, you could use it with one of those, but mythnetvision does not currently have cookie or login support
[22:04:08] dougl: wagnerrp, yeah – thats what confused me... thanks, that clears up alot.
[22:04:51] dougl: myth ported to osx?
[22:05:13] wagnerrp: ported? no
[22:05:20] wagnerrp: the main repository compiles directly on OSX
[22:05:35] wagnerrp: you dont have to use an independent port
[22:05:45] dougl: ok

[22:43:05] sphery: yes, definitely that's it

[22:43:30] kormoc: MySQL runs on 3306, 6543 is the backend port
[22:43:31] sphery: DBPort means the port to use to connect to MySQL database
[22:43:32] wagnerrp: your database does not live on port 6543
[22:43:44] sphery: wagnerrp: again, /me wonders why so many people configure like this
[22:43:49] ptheberge_: oh....
[22:43:54] kormoc: sphery, one port to rule them all?
[22:44:01] sphery: ptheberge_: did you type in 6543 or did that come from a broken distro config/package?
[22:44:19] ** wagnerrp watches a pack of hairy-footed midgets scurry past kormoc **
[22:44:27] ptheberge_: I probably typed it in when I got a prompt from myth because database was not accessible from lan
[22:44:39] wagnerrp: hey! who left the door open?
[22:44:45] sphery: ptheberge_: the value should be 0 for 0.24-fixes

[22:45:50] sphery: I'm seriously considering writing code to detect a Qt-MySQL driver request on MythTV's ports and then give an error message
[22:46:13] sphery: ptheberge_: please post whole frontend log file from attempted start

[22:47:01] ptheberge_: full log of the front-end: http://pastebin.com/7YFZN6jm
[22:47:06] ptheberge_: Apparently some theme missing....
[22:48:11] sphery: you still have 0.23 themes installed--they need to be uninstalled
[22:48:32] sphery: you may well also have 0.23 libraries installed--which may be causing you to get a segfault when using a mix of 0.23 and 0.24 code
[22:48:36] ptheberge_: That's the basic ubuntu package installation...
[22:48:44] sphery: how did you install?
[22:48:50] sphery: so, ubuntu packages
[22:48:54] ptheberge_: sudo apt-get install mythtv-frontend
[22:49:03] sphery: I think you need to uninstall some of them (like myththemes or whatever they call it)
[22:49:06] sphery: and possibly others
[22:49:17] sphery: was this an upgrade or a first-time-on-this-system install?
[22:49:47] ptheberge_: first-time install
[22:50:18] sphery: then probably not mixed-version libs
[22:50:59] ptheberge_: would a dpkg-reconfigure help?
[22:51:06] Muzer: OK. I'm in the UK, and I can receive terrestrial and satellite on my computer. I finally got around to setting up mythtv to properly use it. After half a day of work, I've got everything scanned. So, what next? First of all, it'd be nice if it could use the compressed Freesat EPG info – is support for that available out of the box, or do I have to set something up? (I haven't really tested yet)
[22:51:33] sphery: ptheberge_: not sure... without seeing a backtrace of the segfault, I'd only be guessing
[22:51:56] sphery: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Debugging , fwiw
[22:53:41] ptheberge_: Installing in progress
[22:57:57] ptheberge_: sphery, should I send the bug report, or would you rather need some part of it on a pastebin?
[22:59:10] Muzer: OK. First of all, is there a way to set a preferred frequency for EIT data grabbing? The Freesat Home transponder sends EIT data significantly faster than any other, so I'd like to choose this one if it's possible. Is it?
[22:59:44] sphery: ptheberge_: could start with posting the gdb output to pastebin
[23:02:27] ptheberge_: sphery: Hm... looks like I can't copy-paste that, am I mistaken?
