[00:39:26] Bob-zqxlp: Hi y'all. Some problems after upgrading from a perfectly-function 0.21 (Ubuntu 8.04) to 0.23 (Ubuntu 10.04). Possibly better for the mailing list, but I wanted to run the short(er) version by here first:
[00:40:09] Bob-zqxlp: 1. Both backend and frontend are now struggling with recordings made from the "Low Quality" recording profile. Are there any known issues related to this? Is something no longer supported? It still records fine (PVR-150, btw), but the backend fails to flag commercials (job queue reports that it found >100 commercial breaks for a half-hour show, but the recording is left marked "not flagged" and the backend logs errors includi
[00:40:09] Bob-zqxlp: ng "smallbin double linked list corrupted"), and the frontend plays back with the top-half of the video covered in green graphical artifacts. Playback is the same if I run the raw mpeg through MythVideo. Playback is perfectly fine through Totem and the Windows Mythtv Player client. Same issue affects recordings made with 0.21, so it's not that things are being recorded any differently. "Normal quality" recordings have none of
[00:40:09] Bob-zqxlp: these issues.
[00:42:06] Bob-zqxlp: 2. Preview generation always fails. There are a number of warnings in the logfile, but I'm not sure which are significant and the actual errors are generic... there's also the occassional "Aborted," "Illegal instruction," and "corrupted double-linked list" (these seem to lack context...)
[00:42:36] Bob-zqxlp: 3. MythVideo won't show DVD menus. They "work" in that the menu item highlight appears on top of a black background... if I can actually made my way to the movie, it seems to play alright.
[00:44:56] Bob-zqxlp: I welcome tips on how to diagnose any of these myself... running out of ideas.

[00:55:51] tgm4883: Bob-zqxlp, at the very least, I'd upgrade to mythbuntu-repos and get a release version of 0.23.0 or 0.23.1 (or 0.24 if you want)
[01:02:29] Bob-zqxlp: tgm4883: the 0.23.0-fixes in the ubuntu repos is out-of-date? I thought "-fixes" was generally recommended. I didn't know there was a 0.23.1 though... interesting...

[01:03:27] tgm4883: Bob-zqxlp, also, it is work noting that the version in the official ubuntu repos for 10.04 is a pre-release version of 0.23. Not even the released version
[01:04:04] Bob-zqxlp: oh. that seems odd. I was wondering why you made a point of saying "release version." Thanks for the info.
[01:05:39] tgm4883: Bob-zqxlp, yea it's kinda odd. Won't happen in the future but had to do with when Mythtv 0.23 was officially released and when 10.04 was release

[01:31:02] Beirdo: messy

[03:35:43] wagnerrp: there are tuner cards that put their reader on a daughter card

[04:03:21] wagnerrp: WTF!!!
[04:03:22] Beirdo: as I said earlier in the day... messy code
[04:03:25] wagnerrp: it did it again!
[04:03:45] wagnerrp: i copied /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6.6.2 from my good frontend to the one that is inexplicably failing
[04:03:53] wagnerrp: ran the frontend once, it ran fine
[04:04:05] wagnerrp: ran the frontend again, and the library is corrupted now

[04:04:21] Beirdo: your machine is possessed?
[04:04:30] wagnerrp: seriously
[04:04:48] Beirdo: OMG, Santana was a good one to copy over for testing :)
[04:05:15] wagnerrp: if it were simply corrupted, i would assume hardware is going bad
[04:05:22] wagnerrp: but no, it was corrupted in exactly the same manner
[04:05:26] wagnerrp: not a random glitch
[04:05:30] wagnerrp: this was programmatic
[04:05:32] Beirdo: yeah, that is odd
[04:09:33] wagnerrp: anyway, back to the problem at hand.... it said core dumped, but where did it dump to?
[04:09:51] Beirdo: current working dir where it was started from
[04:10:16] wagnerrp: apparently not
[04:10:24] Beirdo: odd
[04:10:34] Beirdo: that's the normal Linux behavior anyways
[04:10:44] Beirdo: find / -name core\*
[04:10:45] Beirdo: :)
[04:10:48] wagnerrp: thats where i expected it would be

[04:11:19] Beirdo: or \*core\*
[04:11:39] Beirdo: in case it decided to call it mythfrontend.core or some fool thing
[04:12:00] Beirdo: YAY
[04:12:09] Beirdo: down to exactly one warning for the plugins
[04:12:23] wagnerrp: does the user or root need write access?
[04:12:33] Beirdo: it's one that I fought with for hours before, and couldn't satisfactorily fix
[04:12:37] Beirdo: to the core?
[04:12:43] Beirdo: or to the current dir
[04:12:58] wagnerrp: if the current directory is an NFS mount, with root squash such that root cannot write to it...
[04:13:00] Beirdo: the user may need write access to the dir to spew the core file
[04:13:33] wagnerrp: the user (me) has write access, root does not
[04:13:59] Beirdo: hmm
[04:14:24] wagnerrp: oh, no, it did write
[04:14:25] Beirdo: not sure, maybe it does write it as root then chmod... it's builtin to libc or bash
[04:14:31] wagnerrp: its just a single 'core'
[04:14:36] wagnerrp: not 'mythfrontend.core'
[04:14:47] Beirdo: K, that's what I'd expect
[04:14:54] Beirdo: either core or core.pid

[04:32:03] wagnerrp: but then hes not german now is he?
[04:35:37] wagnerrp: cant reproduce on the other (more powerful) frontend running the same binaries
