[05:36:21] lyricnz: that's a dual tuner
[05:36:30] lyricnz: and the new quad, is four more.
[05:36:43] lyricnz: so I was expecting 6 devices in myth.
[05:36:50] lyricnz: there was 2
[05:36:50] wagnerrp: the only reason i could think of is youve been carrying around that database since before multirec was added in... 2007?

[05:37:50] lyricnz: mythtvsetup shows (2+4) six devices, but mythfe shows 10 (2 + 2*4)

[05:38:22] wagnerrp: oh, yeah, mythtv-setup shows the physical cards
[05:38:33] lyricnz: so I should delete and readd in mythtvsetup?
[05:38:37] wagnerrp: mythfrontend and the backend status page shows the virtual encoders
[05:38:37] lyricnz: (yes both physical devices are on there
[05:38:41] wagnerrp: delete everything, add them back
[05:38:48] lyricnz: ok
[05:38:53] wagnerrp: you may want to go into the custom options on each as you add them
[05:39:01] wagnerrp: and give them 3 or 4 virtual tuners ewach
[05:40:13] wagnerrp: eew...
[05:40:44] wagnerrp: it has a PCIe to PCI bridge, a PCI to USB bridge, and four USB tuners
[05:40:54] [R]: i saw that
[05:40:55] wagnerrp: thats seriously messed up
[05:40:55] lyricnz: yeah, it's low-rent :)
[05:40:56] [R]: and it confused me
[05:41:22] [R]: is a pci bus enough bw to provide 4 streams?
[05:41:51] wagnerrp: DVB-T isnt going to carry more than 25–30mbps
[05:42:02] wagnerrp: the exact amount varies depending on the broadcast parameters
[05:42:04] [R]: i really dont know how much bw pci has
[05:42:14] wagnerrp: so four of them are only going to be ~120mbps
[05:42:23] wagnerrp: PCI theoretically has 133MBps
[05:42:38] wagnerrp: and considering its a dedicated bus for those four tuners
[05:42:40] wagnerrp: not a problem
[05:42:51] wagnerrp: USB is the bigger bottleneck here
[05:43:17] [R]: why is that more ideal than just straight up usb?
[05:43:18] wagnerrp: and i suspect at 120mbps from four devices, youre really starting to put a strain on the bus
[05:43:36] wagnerrp: because its a single card, rather than four separate dongles
[05:43:39] lyricnz: deleted and readded devices, now got 12, as you suggested.
[05:43:40] wagnerrp: dongles suck
[05:43:51] [R]: they oculd make 1 dongle
[05:43:55] lyricnz: why two virtual devices? to do the multi-mutex stuff?
[05:44:17] wagnerrp: yes, the virtual tuners is how multirec is set up in mythtv
[05:44:34] wagnerrp: it was the easy(ier) way to do it, but it results in some quirks
[05:45:04] lyricnz: so myth will failover from a "busy" tuner to next real device okay? ie: I don't need to worry about it?
[05:45:44] wagnerrp: mythtv will record on the first tuner capable of receiving that channel
[05:45:58] wagnerrp: if a virtual tuner is locked to a different multiplex, it will be skipped
[05:46:03] lyricnz: sweet
[05:46:13] lyricnz: So I've got 12 virtual tuners now :)
[05:46:20] [R]: holy crap
[05:46:27] [R]: 3000 lbs of marijuana
[05:46:30] wagnerrp: that also means if you start a livetv session, it will pick the first tuner, which may be locked to a multiplex
[05:46:38] wagnerrp: and may behave in a manner you didnt expect
[05:46:45] lyricnz: we never watch livetv, but thanks for the tip

[06:04:45] wagnerrp: dingus: you have to create one
[06:04:46] kormoc: Beirdo, once UPnP gets discovered, does it stop using udp 1900?
[06:05:05] dingus: i figured as much but what needs to go into it?
[06:05:27] wagnerrp: dingus: /etc/lircd.conf maps IR codes to named commands sent out by the lircd daemon
[06:05:47] Beirdo: kormoc: afaik
[06:05:47] wagnerrp: ~/.mythtv/lircrc is then read in by mythtv to translate the named commands sent out by lircd into events

[06:06:25] wagnerrp: dingus: there are several pre-made lircrc on the mythtv wiki if one of them matches your remote

[06:35:20] Beirdo: I guess I could go to the TV next time it does it, and see what
[06:35:24] Beirdo: 's on the screen
[06:35:46] J-e-f-f-A: And myth would only do that when mythfilldatabase fetched new channels from SD and inserted them... (before I disabled that feature!)  ;-)

[07:09:41] Beirdo: hmm, not sure
[07:10:02] wagnerrp: you dont get the database info over upnp exactly
[07:10:06] wagnerrp: you just use it to find the backend
[07:10:10] wagnerrp: and you pull the info over mythxml
[07:10:17] kormoc: Ahh, I see
[07:10:20] Beirdo: wagnerrp: well, for upnp you do
[07:10:21] Beirdo: :)

[07:10:52] kormoc: I have mythweb working via upnp!
[07:11:13] Beirdo: but it all depends on what part of "upnp" you are looking for :)
[07:11:24] Beirdo: oooh, the discovery part?
[07:11:46] Beirdo: will it let you choose between master backends if there are multiples?
[07:11:57] kormoc: Aye, discovery
[07:12:02] kormoc: I can, but I don't yet
[07:12:08] Beirdo: i.e. my devel backend and the real prod backend... both should return
[07:12:09] kormoc: it just uses the first one it finds
[07:12:22] Beirdo: does it use config.xml to override?
[07:12:38] kormoc: Beirdo, .htaccess/apache vhost conf override
[07:12:43] kormoc: but if they're not there, it uses upnp
[07:12:49] Beirdo: K
[07:13:10] Beirdo: sounds very similar to how the mythfrontend, etc does it, but subtly different
[07:13:13] Beirdo: cool though :)
[07:13:27] Beirdo: if I can specify which one to hit in the config, all is good
[07:13:49] kormoc: I'll add that
[07:14:11] kormoc: I'll use the first one unless there's database settings already configured or a master one is set
[07:14:36] Beirdo: sounds like a good compromise
[07:15:09] kormoc: Beirdo, feel free to add a ticket to make that configurable tho, cause that would be best
[07:15:39] Beirdo: K. I'll try to get one in so I don't forget :)

[07:40:47] ** Beirdo looks at sphery **

[07:41:13] Beirdo: yup
[07:41:19] wagnerrp: and recordings support paging
[07:41:24] Beirdo: and is well documented in the config file
[07:41:28] wagnerrp: kormoc: maybe that should be set to a sensible limit, like 200?
[07:41:39] kormoc: hrm
[07:41:50] kormoc: perhaps
[07:43:05] wagnerrp: or honestly, 25 would probably suffice
[07:43:21] Beirdo: 25 might be a bit on the low side ;)
[07:43:30] wagnerrp: when i look at that screen, im either looking at the last few days of recordings, or im doing a batch delete of a whole season
[07:44:11] Beirdo: 25 would be like a day and a half of recordings... if that
[07:44:19] wagnerrp: while im at it, theres a bug with the javascript that causes the usage to jump to exactly 1TB when deleting files
[07:44:43] kormoc: huh

[20:28:16] jarle: Is there any real reason NOT to enable active EIT scan on all dvb-s cards?
[20:28:57] stuartm: jarle: some drivers are unstable and don't handle frequent retuning very well
[20:29:26] stuartm: generally it's safe
[20:32:17] jarle: stuartm: but as long as the cards use the same driver, the retuning load will be the same no matter how many cards have active eit enabled...
[20:35:49] stuartm: stuartm: it's mostly an issue for dual-tuner cards, for some reason enabling active scanning for one tuner is fine, but active scanning on both is enough to get the driver/hardware into a non-functional state
[20:38:43] jarle: stuartm: some people seem to be thinking that enabling active eit, means that there will be no passive scanning (while recording), but in my experience passive scanning will always be used when tuned to a channel, no?
