[00:37:23] zoran119: hi people, i just got leadtek 2000ds... what should i set the video device to in myth-setup?
[00:38:49] wagnerrp: you shouldnt set it to anything
[00:38:55] wagnerrp: it should autodetect your available devices
[00:39:36] zoran119: so i'm adding a capture card. correect?
[00:39:37] wagnerrp: choose 'DVB DTV tuner', and it should fine the proper device
[00:40:40] zoran119: ok, so i set it to 'dvb dtv capture card (v3.x)'
[00:40:45] wagnerrp: its a dual tuner, so you will have to configure each as two separate devices
[00:40:50] castlec: ok... my build is linked against the right lib version now. for some reason, i'm not getting any plugin load message in the log and it's not available on the menu. Things to check?
[00:40:57] wagnerrp: should be /dev/dvb/adapter0 and /dev/dvb/adapter1
[00:41:09] zoran119: and it wants 'dvb device number'... what should that be
[00:41:41] zoran119: ok... there is nothing there...
[00:41:48] zoran119: must be a driver issue
[00:42:07] wagnerrp: if you dont have those devices available on your filesystem, then your system is not set up to use that tuner card

[01:12:24] biffhero: rats. I think I busted something in terra UI.
[01:14:35] biffhero: just upgraded to .24, playing with UI things… now, whenever I go to "Watch Videos", I land in a decision between "Storage Groups" and "isos" (where isos is my directory to store .iso files). I used to land in the complete list of titles. I clicked on "Browse By, "Storage Groups", so I understand how I got here. However, I don't understnad how to get back, I don't see "Title" as an option to browse by.

[01:34:18] biffhero: Yes, storage groups for everything. Hooray. However, I am not sure what I need to do to make that happen.
[01:34:58] biffhero: In "General Settings (1/4)" on my frontend, I see a whole bunch of "directory that holds…" entries. Do I need to blank them out?
[01:39:57] biffhero: my first test is to eliminate the nfs mount from /etc/fstab and see what is available on the frontend after reboot. these revos reboot so fast that I do a lot of troubleshooting via "good notes and iterate"
[01:40:11] wagnerrp: why not just unmount it now?
[01:40:13] kormoc: wagnerrp, I just added a mythtv ebuilds git repo for us to use to get things right
[01:40:45] biffhero: wagnerrp: good idea, thanks. I am back up already.
[01:40:53] kormoc: I'm assuming we can point the mythtv/packaging/Gentoo at it easily enough (Beirdo?)

[01:48:30] wagnerrp: kormoc: i keep coming back to just dropping the lookup site all together, and encoding the hash numerically in the version
[01:49:05] wagnerrp: its messy, but they so is the site
[01:49:10] ** kormoc nods **
[01:49:20] wagnerrp: and the only other option is storing the hash inside the ebuild
[01:49:28] wagnerrp: now that /is/ an option
[01:49:41] ** kormoc nods **
[01:49:45] kormoc: and the cleaner one to be honest
[01:50:07] wagnerrp: i do have a python script put together that will go through all the listed directories, and add a new ebuild with the updated hash
[01:50:21] wagnerrp: it would also allow things like building off another branch in the same repo
[01:50:33] wagnerrp: since thats going to be IDd by the hash
[01:50:47] ** kormoc nods **
[01:51:35] wagnerrp: thats actually the way i set it up initially a week ago
[01:51:36] Beirdo: yeah, once you have your Gentoo packaging to a "ready" state, packaging/Gentoo or packaging/ebuild or something would be a great place for that to live
[01:51:41] wagnerrp: the hash gets stored at the top of the ebuild
[01:51:54] wagnerrp: and when you import the eclass, it does whatever processing is needed on it
[01:52:24] kormoc: Beirdo, I figure it'll be a remote repo that gets pulled into that tree position as our users will need to check out the portage directory and keep pulling to keep it updated
[01:52:40] Beirdo: ahhh
[01:53:11] kormoc: sorta like how mythweb is still in mythplugins without being in mythplugins?
[01:53:17] Diverdude (Diverdude!~Diverdude@1709ds1-vbr.0.fullrate.dk) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:53:41] Diverdude: Hello, how do i display subtitles using srt files in the internal mythtv player?
[01:53:44] Beirdo: well, it's not really in mythplugins at all anymore except in historical connotation, I'd say
[01:54:15] kormoc: wagnerrp, so you can put your update script in /scripts in the root of the mythtv-ebuilds tree and portage will know not to complain about it being a invalid package
[01:54:44] kormoc: Beirdo, ooh? So I guess we'd just need a mythtv/Gentoo repo?
[01:55:17] Beirdo: well, I'm lost
[01:55:18] Beirdo: heh
[01:56:02] wagnerrp: yeah, i really wouldnt call mythweb a plugin any more than i would call the python bindings or nuvexport a plugin
[01:56:33] Beirdo: historically it's been there, but really it's separate
[01:56:39] biffhero: do the movie trailer / poster / screenshots / banners / fanart work over storage groups as well?
[01:56:49] wagnerrp: well its been there due to no better place to put it
[01:57:09] wagnerrp: biffhero: works fine, just make sure to create folders for them in their respective storage groups
[01:57:18] wagnerrp: or else they will all be stuffed into the root of Videos
[01:57:44] biffhero: wagnerrp: thanks. The backend already has them all defined, but so does the front end. I will erase them from the frontend settings.
[01:58:09] kormoc: Beirdo, I don't think we should have our users checking out all of packaging for just the ebuild tree
[01:59:56] Beirdo: all 2.9MB of it?

[02:01:08] kormoc: it breaks official distro layout policy to have it as a sub/sub
[02:01:27] Beirdo: and yes, they would have to clone that if they are using a local copy
[02:02:03] kormoc: ugh. I guess we can have them symlink it into it
[02:02:28] biffhero: I don't know if it is or not, but mythweb seems faster after in 0.24 than in 0.23.
[02:03:28] [R]: would you like it to be slower?
[02:03:36] wagnerrp: mythweb is faster in 0.24 than in 0.23
[02:04:01] biffhero: Heh, could you do that for me? I don't want to get the WAF too high. She might start expecting more out of me around here.
[02:05:09] [R]: haha
[02:05:15] [R]: just stick some random sleeps all over the place
[02:05:30] wagnerrp: sounds like mythcommflag
[02:05:54] Beirdo: hehe
[02:06:27] wagnerrp: well less 'random' and more 'one big intentional'
[02:08:37] biffhero: Mr Mythcommflag has a very happy wife. He barely has to show up for lunch, and all of a sudden, he's a hero.
[02:09:02] biffhero: "Oh, honey, I so _appreciate_ everything you do for me." I aspire to that level of greatness.
[02:09:37] wagnerrp: i hear you can get surgery for that now
[02:14:20] biffhero: but insurance won't cover it, so it's not going to happen.
[02:18:27] castlec: hey all. i'm not sure anyone caught my query on my plugin. i had an issue with my libs matching between my compile machine and the frontend. libs match now but for some reason I'm not getting any load message at all. what should I investigate?
[02:19:11] [R]: castlec: load message?
[02:19:25] wagnerrp: saying the plugin had been loaded, or failed loading, or anything...

[02:58:51] wagnerrp: they will continue running, but under this new setup, they will be running outside of the jobqueue's knowledge or control
[02:58:51] Beirdo: when you kill the parent, the child is SUPPOSED to get killed too
[02:58:53] Beirdo: but...
[02:59:14] wagnerrp: not if the child has daemonized
[02:59:21] Beirdo: it sure can't hurt to ensure it

[02:59:57] Beirdo: dangit, you stupid ffmpeg
[03:00:12] Beirdo: how to take 6channel->2channel!?
[03:00:30] Beirdo: and I'm pretty sure mythtranscode IS spitting out 6 channels of PCM
[03:00:59] wagnerrp: anyway, id like to be able to mark something as failed, and be able to requeue it
[03:01:17] wagnerrp: it may be better to wait until that jobqueue comes back online, and tell the jobqueue to clean up after itself
[03:01:21] Beirdo: depending on failure type
[03:01:30] Beirdo: if the user kills it, you shouldn't requeue
[03:01:53] wagnerrp: if the user kills it, they should have told the jobqueue
[03:02:03] Beirdo: like a particularly bad commflag that's just not going anywhere, and you kill the process
[03:02:13] Beirdo: that will tell the jobqueue via the return code
[03:02:14] wagnerrp: you go into the job manager and terminate it
[03:02:17] Beirdo: no
[03:02:22] Beirdo: you kill it :)
[03:02:35] Beirdo: the return from mythsystem will tell you it was killed
[03:02:35] wagnerrp: of course... we need to add an easier way to tell the jobqueue to terminate it
[03:02:58] Beirdo: or the system OOMs and terminates a job...
[03:03:29] Beirdo: so, I thinkn my xvid export worked

[03:04:00] skd5aner: Hey guys, good evening!

[03:04:47] skd5aner: wagnerrp: remember a few months back, where I was telling you that delete and allow re-record wasn't working for me? I believe you helped try and replicate it on your end without much success...
[03:05:21] skd5aner: wagnerrp: I'm still seeing it after the 0.24 upgrade – delete and re-record will never re-record an episode that airs at a later date
[03:06:03] wagnerrp: dont know...
[03:06:39] wagnerrp: are you sure you dont have any additional filters on that rule preventing the re-recording
[03:06:44] skd5aner: It's really a bummer – as there's many times I used to use it – if a show didn't record right, news break in, late running sports show, etc
[03:06:52] skd5aner: wagnerrp: it's ANY rule
[03:07:02] skd5aner: wagnerrp:I've set up new rules to test, tested on existing rules
[03:07:35] wagnerrp: i mean stuff like 'new showings only'
[03:07:56] skd5aner: yup – like I said, I've configured new rules, with default settings
[03:08:47] skd5aner: when I go into the "upcoming episodes" screen – all instances of that episode will continue to say "previously recorded" (I believe that was the terminology)
[03:09:44] skd5aner: the only way to get it ever to re-record is to manually forget the recording
[03:10:49] skd5aner: I'd really love any help I could get in tracking this down – I honestly don't know how it could just be impacting me alone and I don't know of any settings/configuration items that could be impacting it?
[03:11:40] skd5aner: I'm on the verge of submitting a bug report, but I like to do as much due diligance as I can before I do that to ensure it's not something silly on my end
[03:14:17] skd5aner: The last test I did, if anyone wants to test it themselves, is go into the guide and found a show on TLC or Discovery, since they re-air the same episodes after midnight...
[03:14:23] oobe: mythbrowser crashes with my current version of flash i used to have a version of 10.0.45 that didnt crash but i cant find it anywhere does anyone know a version available on the net that doesnt cause this problem http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1508885
[03:14:48] skd5aner: I found an episode in the guide, that met that criteria, set a new recording rule to record any show on that channel... then let that show record.
[03:15:12] skd5aner: I then stopped the recording, then selected delete, then delete and allow it to re-record
[03:15:22] Beirdo: [ac3 @ 0xbd2b40] No channel layout specified. The encoder will guess the layout, but it might be incorrect.
[03:15:33] Beirdo: so, if I tell it to encode to ac3, it knows how
[03:15:49] Beirdo: but if I want to downmix it to stereo mp3. no go
[03:16:08] skd5aner: then, I went back into the upcoming episodes screen on that rule (which was Record on Any Channel with all the defaults), and then noticed that the upcoming showings of that episode were makred as previosly recorded and weren't scheduled to record

[04:27:43] Beirdo: ummm
[04:27:50] Beirdo: git checkout fixes/0.24
[04:28:21] elmojo: Beirdo: that yields this "(now or later) by using -b with the checkout command again. Example:
[04:28:21] elmojo: git checkout -b <new_branch_name>

[04:30:04] elmojo: the -b I thought created a new branch
[04:30:10] elmojo: what does "new" mean?
[04:30:12] Beirdo: it does, based on where you are
[04:30:21] Beirdo: you had no local fixes/0.24
[04:30:38] Beirdo: now you do, based on origin/fixes/0.24 (as it should be)

[04:31:27] elmojo: you mean "git log fixes/0.24"

[04:32:02] elmojo: when I do the switch I'm not seeing the code actually change to fixes/0.24
[04:33:06] Beirdo: what does git status tell you?
[04:33:56] elmojo: do I need to run another command after git checkout?
[04:34:17] Beirdo: shouldn't have to
[04:34:17] elmojo: git status says that I'm on fixes/0.24
[04:34:48] Beirdo: and before you did the git checkout -b fixes/0.24, you were on origin/fixes/0.24?
[04:35:33] elmojo: yes but I shouldn't need origin/fixes/0.24 anyways
[04:35:39] elmojo: I think I just confused myself
[04:35:58] elmojo: the code did change... I looked at the wrong version in github

[04:43:38] elmojo: cause git was designed from the ground up to confuse people?!?!?
[04:43:42] Beirdo: because they did? You'd have to read changelogs to know the details
[04:44:11] J-e-f-f-A: Beirdo: Maybe that's why the git commands weren't working on my frontends- they're on FC11... and the latest for FC11 (at least with a yum install) is 1.6.2.5... my backend is FC13 and has 1.7.2.3 ...
[04:44:12] kormoc: if that's the policy, seems like it's gonna be a epic pain to keep the scripts working
[04:44:35] Beirdo: the "policy" is the same as mythtv's

[04:44:53] Beirdo: or even 0.23
[04:45:08] Beirdo: and we have zero backwards compatibility
[04:45:33] kormoc: there's a striking difference between system tools and GUI apps when it comes to keeping CLI args similar...

[04:45:50] kormoc: and broke every existing packaging script out there
[04:45:57] Beirdo: no
[04:46:05] Beirdo: the old way still works
[04:46:08] kormoc: if 1.6 requires -b and 1.7 doesn't
[04:46:16] kormoc: so why aren't we telling people to use the old way then?
[04:46:20] Beirdo: which is to create a local branch, then rebase it off the remote one
[04:46:34] elmojo: in gits defense it just made 1.7 have a shortcut per say
[04:46:37] Beirdo: because we should be using the new version, which is simpler
[04:46:38] kormoc: the only difference in his command line was a -b
[04:47:04] Beirdo: and -b still works the SAME in 1.7
[04:47:16] Beirdo: just without the -b does extra steps for you

[04:52:35] kormoc: and it corrupted itself both on my laptop and my desktop (with ECC ram and 3 disk mirror, meaning it wasn't hardware related)
[04:52:41] Beirdo: odd. Well, I can't speak to OS X :) but it should be fairly simple to compile your own

[04:53:30] kormoc: that package
[04:54:03] elmojo: Beirdo: on 1.6.x if I do git checkout -b fixes/0.24 and then run git log it has everything at master but if I run git checkout origin/fixes/0.24 then git log is on the correct branch
[04:54:05] kormoc: Beirdo, the one I used before was via macports and it was corrupting remote repos
[04:54:07] elmojo: works fine on 1.7
[04:55:05] Beirdo: hmmm
[04:55:51] elmojo: Beirdo: you should probably send out a notice and warn people not to use 1.6.x
[04:55:59] Beirdo: Yah
[04:56:44] elmojo: I'm rerunning the exact steps with 1.7 now on a clean slate to see how it differs
[04:57:18] knightr: wagnerrp, would be nice if there was an real open source player for it but it looks like the format is patent-encumbered...
[04:57:38] Beirdo: kormoc: yeah, they do suggest (github that is) the google-code one
[04:58:26] Beirdo: so.... I've learned... AC3 in avi is no-go
[04:59:10] Beirdo: and ffmpeg can't downsample 6-channel PCM to 2-channel
[04:59:15] Beirdo: hmmm
[04:59:31] Beirdo: no wonder people whine about AC3 sourced audio with nuvexport
[04:59:34] Beirdo: hmmm.
[04:59:49] Beirdo: I think I'll use sox to do the downsampling on the fly
[05:00:08] kormoc: I swear I hit every bloody git bug there is
[05:00:43] Beirdo: does seem that way
[05:01:06] elmojo: kormoc: at least git is better than svn
[05:01:22] ** kormoc disagrees **
[05:01:34] Beirdo: I'm surprised that such damaged builds didn't get fixed
[05:01:46] Beirdo: although most git devs are linux-bound, I'm sure
[05:01:54] elmojo: kormoc: I was being sarcastic
[05:02:26] elmojo: Beirdo: I believe 'origin' is necessary for 1.6.x
[05:02:34] Beirdo: how odd :)
[05:02:49] kormoc: Beirdo, to be fair, the binary is right when I download it. it's just after using it a bit the checksum of the binary changes and strings corrupt, and always the same way, which cuases hashes to break and all sorts of fun, but if i reinstall, it works again for awhile until it corrupts itself again
[05:02:56] Beirdo: I guess in 1.6.x, you checkout origin/blah, then checkout -b blah
[05:03:13] Beirdo: whereas in 1.7, you just checkout blah
[05:03:19] elmojo: when I run 'git checout fixes/0.24' on 1.7 I get Branch fixes/0.24 set up to track remote branch fixes/0.24 from origin.
[05:03:19] elmojo: Switched to a new branch 'fixes/0.24'
[05:03:28] Beirdo: and if there's a matching one in origin, it automatically connects them
[05:03:35] Beirdo: yep
[05:03:37] elmojo: exactly
[05:04:56] elmojo: so I think you have to do 2 steps in 1.6x 1. git checkout origin/fixes/0.24 and then 2. git checkout -b fixes/0.24
[05:05:13] Beirdo: that sounds correct
[05:06:01] elmojo: then you can just git checkout fixes/0.24 to switch afterwards
[05:07:30] [R]: so recently my hdpvr has been occationally just repeating the same few seconds of video over and over again
[05:07:35] [R]: has anyone heard of or seen that?
[05:08:14] elmojo: Beirdo: looks like Ubuntu 9.10 has 1.6.x which isn't that old... many people are going to be irritated
[05:08:30] Beirdo: 9.10 is ancient :)
[05:08:53] Beirdo: 10.04.1 LTS at least has 1.7, which is a good thing
[05:10:52] elmojo: it's not ancient for people who don't want to spend their time upgrading a distro more than necessary
[05:11:26] Beirdo: I understand. I used every version from 5.10 until 10.04 :)
[05:11:55] Beirdo: but still... really. Over all, it's worth being either on the latest, or on an LTS release
[05:12:13] elmojo: it was the latest a little over a year ago
[05:12:26] Beirdo: and I bet you can forklift in git-core from 10.04.1
[05:12:46] elmojo: maybe there is a backport for a newer version of git
[05:12:56] Beirdo: that's also a possibility
[05:15:41] mzb: would it be too hard to sync git and svn so that both are available for a "transitional" period?

[14:06:38] sphery: russell5: I assume you mean the python script at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Find_orphans.py . The only way to clean up orphaned recording metadata is to go through MythWeb or mythfrontend and delete the entries (and confirm you want to remove them when it says the file doesn't exist). If you mean the orphaned files, you can simply delete them with rm and copy/paste the path. (Or take the output of Orphaned video files, put it ...
[14:06:44] sphery: ... in a text editor and change the <hostname>: part to "rm " and get rid of the " <filesize>" part to make a "script" to delete them.

[23:42:15] wagnerrp: i mean say you leave it on the weather channel, and the listings data says there is a single show lasting 24 hours
[23:42:24] wagnerrp: will it actually use a single file for that whole period?
[23:42:27] Beirdo: I dunno :)
[23:42:45] Beirdo: I doubt the weather channel uses a 24h block, but it's a good question nonetheless
[23:42:59] [R]: i think it was mentioned once in the ml a while ago
[23:43:02] [R]: tehre is no limit
[23:43:18] wagnerrp: i guess i could answer the question as... 'stop being a told and just use zoneminder to watch your security camera'
[23:43:37] Beirdo: hehe
[23:43:50] Beirdo: just how much video do you need anyways?
[23:44:02] [R]: hrm, i dont like the fact that when my netboot system shuts down, the nfs and nbd port stays in use on my backend
[23:44:33] wagnerrp: someone wants to make a 'dummy listings provider' to give his otherwise 'Unknown' recordings a name
