[00:00:05] high-rez: ARIN could be replaced with a perl script and it'd be more effective.
[00:00:16] Beirdo: maybe someone is still using the IP space
[00:00:22] Beirdo: like the former owner
[00:00:47] jduggan: i have a customer that has a /17 since the 90s, they pay the ripe fees and dont even use it, we're keeping them sweet so we can maybe use it when our last /19 runs out
[00:01:28] high-rez: jduggan: The sweet place to be is on address space that was assigned by internic. Its grandfathered under ARIN with no maintenance fees.
[00:01:56] jduggan: high-rez: yep, quite familiar with it
[00:02:37] jduggan: soon we'll have bounties on address space
[00:02:56] jduggan: it will be interesting to see how everbody copes
[00:03:07] high-rez: Bounties?
[00:03:20] Beirdo: OK, next victim...
[00:03:30] jduggan: people paying others under the table for address space
[00:03:50] high-rez: If the system is ever gonna be near fair, the big grandfathered networks (/8's) need to start justifying their uses...
[00:04:11] high-rez: jduggan: Heh, that already happens all the time.
[00:04:24] jduggan: high-rez: on a small scale
[00:04:26] wagnerrp: you start carving up the big /8s, weve got another 5+ years of address space
[00:04:37] jduggan: again, very familiar with it
[00:04:54] jduggan: when is a /8 a big /8
[00:05:00] jduggan: and not a small one?
[00:05:02] jduggan: :p
[00:05:09] high-rez: *cough*17/8*cough*
[00:05:48] Beirdo: how do I specify to use the QT Painter again?
[00:05:53] Beirdo: -O....
[00:05:59] wagnerrp: ThemePainter=
[00:06:20] Beirdo: =Qt
[00:06:22] Beirdo: ?
[00:06:25] wagnerrp: qt
[00:06:28] Beirdo: k
[00:06:29] high-rez: Hey, did I mentioned earlier that the vdpau painter isn't working on my system? :) Since someone said painter.
[00:06:37] wagnerrp: VDPAU doesnt have a painter
[00:06:43] Beirdo: it does now
[00:06:48] high-rez: svn log | more
[00:06:48] high-rez: ?
[00:06:54] wagnerrp: oh?
[00:07:01] Beirdo: markk put one in within the last few days
[00:07:16] high-rez: And it works, except that it doesn't work when moving from the player back to the menus.
[00:07:23] wagnerrp: you mean hidden among all the trac spam?
[00:07:43] high-rez: E.g. click livetv, enjoy livetv, then hit escape to go to the menu and mythfrontend freezes.
[00:07:44] wagnerrp: why use a vdpau painter?
[00:07:54] high-rez: According to the svn log its more efficient ;)
[00:07:56] wagnerrp: i mean anything that does vdpau should do opengl just fine shouldnt it?
[00:08:29] Beirdo: wagnerrp: pretty much.... It think it's a memory management thing

[00:08:58] high-rez: There.
[00:09:59] wagnerrp: system memory or graphics memory?
[00:10:16] Beirdo: graphics, I think
[00:10:22] high-rez: I'd imagine graphics...
[00:10:30] wagnerrp: ah, yeah... mentions the 256MB cards
[00:10:33] Beirdo: markk's changed so much around, I'm having a hard time keeping up :)
[00:11:07] high-rez: One day, 0.24 stops getting new features, I might start opening up bugs. Development is massively rapid atm.
[00:11:29] Beirdo: ummm, please put them in before then :)
[00:11:49] wagnerrp: yes
[00:12:04] wagnerrp: nothing worse than being swamped with a bunch of unexpected bugs as you go into feature freeze
[00:12:36] wagnerrp: also ties are hands as to what we can do to resolve them, no new features and all
[00:13:17] high-rez: Alright, post lawn mow I'll start complaining^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hopening bugs

[01:09:12] high-rez: wagnerrp: We remodeled – and repalced the carpet with hardwood. The result was the ethernet cable I had under the carpet had to be taken out. So I had to break the setup into two separate systems until I could run cable in the walls/attic (done).

The 2 DVBs are identical except for the cardid (of course) and dvb_diseqc_type. One is NULL, other 0. Is this right?

[01:18:18] wagnerrp: your ATSC tuner is duplicated for the purposes of multirec
[01:18:40] PMantis: wagnerrp, Ahhhhh, ok
[01:19:19] PMantis: wagnerrp, I was caught off-guard when mythweb showed an extra tuner. :)
[01:23:12] PMantis: I'm re-installing my whole set up... backends and frontends. On the frontend in live mode, I can use the menu to switch inputs, but no matter what input I'm using, I only get channel 2 and an option when using channel up/down. That input doesn't even default to channel 2, and on the DVB input that is NO channel 2. I don't get why browsing doesn't appear to work.
[01:24:39] wagnerrp: mythweb doesnt show tuners
[01:25:15] PMantis: wagnerrp, Well, under backend status, it's called "Encoders"
[01:25:28] PMantis: You're suggesting a distinction?
[01:25:41] wagnerrp: no, im saying thats not mythweb
[01:25:52] Beirdo: don't be daft :)

[01:26:02] Beirdo: you're confusing him :)
[01:26:11] wagnerrp: thats just a passthrough page from the backend
[01:26:16] wagnerrp: mythweb does not generate it
[01:26:21] wagnerrp: merely stylize it a bit
[01:26:23] Beirdo: there we go :)
[01:27:09] ** PMantis thinks wagnerrp is tiring from answering questions **
[01:27:49] wagnerrp: not at all
[01:27:53] wagnerrp: merely correcting a misconception
[01:28:56] PMantis: wagnerrp, Well, technically as the end user, I don't give a damn what creates the data, just where it's displayed. :)
[01:29:46] wagnerrp: fair enough
[01:30:02] wagnerrp: but as the end user, you may want to know where that data comes from, in the event you want to use it for your own designs

[01:32:40] wagnerrp: you can even tweak that output without touching a bit of code... http://mythtv.org/wiki/Category:Miscellaneous . . . tion_Scripts

[01:44:02] Beirdo: hehe
[01:44:06] high-rez: Beirdo: have you had luck with your samsung tv and upnp? Mine is just crap.

[01:47:45] Beirdo: yeah, I'm surprised it does as well as it does, although there's no reason they couldn't have used a decent GPU
[01:48:15] high-rez: Yeah, a $20 chip would have made all the difference in the world.
[01:48:16] wagnerrp: i honestly dont understand why the Cell hasnt taken off as a video processor
[01:48:37] wagnerrp: is it really that expensive to package a couple SPEs on a chip?
[01:48:39] kormoc: expense?
[01:49:01] wagnerrp: surely theyve gotten their yields up to a respectable value these past four years
[01:49:02] Beirdo: yeah, maybe the TV would be like $15 more :)

[02:22:27] hachi: I think the version I first ran, back when I lived a ways away, was .19, but I can't really remember anymore
[02:22:47] hachi: so I can't even go that far back :)
[02:24:16] hachi: do you actually recommend using the debian multimedia packages of mythtv?
[02:24:29] hachi: or is that 'verbotten' to some degree?
[02:24:44] wagnerrp: why would it be 'verboten'?
[02:25:38] hachi: I dunno, the openldap folks recommend not using the debian version of openldap because of gnutls not giving decent error messages for users and things like that
[02:25:43] hachi: not sure if you guys have anything like that :)
[02:26:03] hachi: of course, your question leads me right to the answer

[02:28:26] kormoc: in the US you don't scan digital cable, just setup a SD lineup for it
[02:28:27] hachi: looking through release notes and things, not sure if I'm missing it :)
[02:28:46] hachi: kormoc: did that work back in .21, cause it doesn't work for me
[02:28:55] hachi: I set up an SD lineup, but it doesn't include frequency numbers
[02:29:04] kormoc: hrm
[02:29:10] ** kormoc shrugs **
[02:29:22] hachi: so I have to scan, and scanning gives me channels like '138#4' which should actually be '47'
[02:29:27] hachi: ok, I'll try
[02:29:28] hachi: no harm
[02:30:00] kormoc: might want to ask the -users list, folks on there actually run that vs my random attempts over the years to play with it

[03:59:56] Beirdo: I hear ya
[04:00:20] sphery: not that I know details of how to fix it, but I'm imagining based on gbee's description and what little bit of the screen stack code I've seen

[04:59:06] kormoc: Beirdo, it forces me to be more zen and I like that
[04:59:13] sphery: yeah, only 4 bugs in MythTV and 368 in MythWeb ;)
[04:59:21] Beirdo: ahh, that's a good thing at times, yeah
[04:59:24] mattwj2002: haha
[04:59:24] sphery: we're almost done with MythTV, now
[04:59:41] kormoc: Version 1.0 here we come!
[04:59:53] kormoc: paired with version 0.0.1 alpha 5
[04:59:57] kormoc: *mythweb version
[05:00:21] Beirdo: heh
[05:00:52] mattwj2002: dang it
[05:01:01] Beirdo: almost got my ticket list down to a screenful again
[05:01:13] mattwj2002: I hate when I try to stick a usb thumb drive in the NIC port
[05:01:15] mattwj2002: :(
[05:01:15] sphery: kormoc: which requires PHP 5.5
[05:01:39] kormoc: of course!
[05:01:56] sphery: (best way to reduce the number of bugs submitted is to make the code impossible to run/test)
[05:02:01] Beirdo: and nuvexport... requiring perl 6
[05:02:03] Beirdo: hehe
[05:02:06] sphery: heh
[05:02:14] sphery: nuvexparrot
[05:02:28] Beirdo: oooh, that should be my next victim... nuvexport...
[05:02:54] Beirdo: or maybe the mythweather setup pages on Metallurgy
[05:02:58] kormoc: nuvexparrot sound like a monty python sketch
[05:03:04] Beirdo: hehe
[05:03:17] Beirdo: it's not dead, it's just sleeping!
[05:03:20] sphery: !parrot kormoc
[05:03:49] sphery: I should really go to sleep, but I really want to watch a 2nd episode of FlashForward tonight
[05:03:55] Beirdo: hehe
[05:03:58] GadgetWisdomGuru: Isn't that show off the air?
[05:04:24] sphery: yeah, I usually delete a show once it's cancelled, but this was a full season and in a genre I like
[05:04:36] mattwj2002: !trout sphery
[05:04:36] ** MythLogBot slaps sphery with a trout on behalf of mattwj2002... **
[05:04:40] mattwj2002: :P
[05:04:49] sphery: heh
[05:05:27] Beirdo: OK, let's compile this mess again so I have a frontend with all those changes. Danke
[05:05:56] sphery: compile again... sounds so anti-ccache
[05:06:15] Beirdo: oh, ccache speeds it up significantly :)
[05:06:36] Beirdo: but I install into different prefixes based on branch, and I do a branch per ticket.
[05:07:37] Beirdo: and I wanna delete the old install dirs
[05:10:51] Beirdo: oh, here's a feature request... I want a key to press when in the program listing to show the fan art with nothing on top of it
[05:10:54] Beirdo: :)
[05:11:01] Beirdo: "SHOWBACKGROUND"
[05:11:18] wagnerrp: recordings dont have fanart

[05:11:41] Beirdo: then what's that behind the program listing?
[05:11:52] wagnerrp: the UI just makes a guess at where the fanart might be stored
[05:11:58] Beirdo: right
[05:12:00] Beirdo: whatever
[05:12:02] wagnerrp: and if it actually exists there, thumbs up!
[05:12:15] Beirdo: I want a key to be able to show JUST what the background is
[05:12:21] Beirdo: I don't care how it found it :)
[05:12:23] Beirdo: heh
[05:12:33] Beirdo: I know, jamu grabs them for me
[05:12:42] wagnerrp: that it does
[05:12:44] Beirdo: but whatever, you know what I mean
[05:12:56] Beirdo: I wanna see the pretty picture :)
[05:13:14] wagnerrp: i dont think any improvement will be done with recording fanart until recordings actually properly support fanart
[05:13:23] wagnerrp: planned change with the recording database rework
[05:13:28] wagnerrp: you can prod sphery on that one
[05:13:47] wagnerrp: Capt'M had a schema worked up, but i think sphery was going to run with it
[05:13:48] Beirdo: this isn't a fanart request, really, it's a "hide the program listing" request ;)
[05:13:52] Beirdo: yeah
[05:14:10] sphery: the initial schema changes are likely to go in shortly unfreezing trunk
[05:14:13] Beirdo: I look forward to that for simplifying nuvexport too
[05:14:30] sphery: unless we delay then for other focuses
[05:14:52] Beirdo: which we may well do

When the Backend records is choses card 0/0. So does the front end when it wants to stream live TV. How do I make the Front end choose a card further up so I don't get the dreaded do you wi

[19:24:08] two_dimensions: tried turning on the opengl frame sync thing iirc, and that didn't help.

[19:24:46] sphery: and verify that your video renderer (in all the Playback Profiles in the Playback Profile group) is set to something "simple/sane"--like Xv (not XvMC))
[19:25:07] sphery: the OpenGL vsync is probably ok
[19:25:15] RogerM: two_dimensions: Look in the recording profiles for LiveTV and see if it's correct..
[19:25:17] wagnerrp: when was 0.20?
[19:25:31] wagnerrp: 0.20.2 was the SD switchover, which was mid-2007?

[19:25:57] sphery: two_dimensions: and, yeah, RogerM's advice is good, too, if you're using an analog encoder or frame grabber
[19:26:16] two_dimensions: (thanks for the help, btw!)  :)

[19:27:07] sphery: wagnerrp: wow, almost 4 years
[19:27:09] wagnerrp: after 4 years, i would just start fresh with new hardware

[19:28:18] sphery: I did recommend using another computer to set up
[19:28:27] two_dimensions: ah right. ok, found the vid renderer bit under the playback profiles bit like u suggested, sphery.
[19:28:37] two_dimensions: so u reckon go for xv-blit?
[19:28:41] sphery: yeah
[19:28:48] sphery: though I wouldn't recommend editing the example profiles
[19:28:53] sphery: I'd make a custom one if you're editing
[19:29:00] sphery: or just use Slim (which is xv-blit)
[19:29:06] two_dimensions: ah right...
[19:29:14] Beirdo: I'll blit you...

[22:28:23] wagnerrp: same thing weve expected (and supported) for months now

[22:29:07] GadgetWisdomGuru: Wagnerrp, I can get those with an antenna

[22:29:34] wagnerrp: if you get nothing over firewire, then this will do you no good
[22:29:48] GadgetWisdomGuru: Well, that's why I said without some standard, it is useless.
[22:30:17] wagnerrp: its more likely youll get exactly nothing over firewire, than anything substantial
[22:30:17] GadgetWisdomGuru: We're counting on lax engineers, rather than better policy.
