[00:01:55] squish102: [R] to my TV, but then my TV feeds my receiver
[00:02:34] squish102: so the cable supplied DVR does 5.1 to TV and gets to Receiver in 5.1
[00:03:06] [R]: interesting, my tv doesnt pass through the full 5.1
[00:03:31] squish102: but not happening for mythtv, but I may be too ambitious

[00:04:57] [R]: 5.1 vs stereo isn't going to matter

[01:40:56] k-man: what's the story with the change in functionality with right arrow? there seems to have been some controvercy about it?
[01:43:47] wagnerrp: no controversy, just complaints
[01:44:14] wagnerrp: the right/left arrow functions were usable when the UI was only vertical menus
[01:44:35] wagnerrp: now that menus can behave in either direction, or both, you cannot use those buttons
[01:45:43] wagnerrp: IMHO, any patch to restore that should make it up to the theme, not up to the user

[02:04:47] k-man: i used to use it all the time and MythCenter is still very "vertical" with its menus so its kind of intuitive to do so
[02:04:54] squish102: it was at least 15 minutes thinking I had broken something in the upgrade

[03:02:57] wagnerrp: its not like you can only have one per system
[03:03:25] pennstatejoe741: right
[03:03:49] pennstatejoe741: so it doesn't matter if I get the 1 card with dual tuner or if i get 2 cards each with 1 tuner
[03:03:57] pennstatejoe741: but where does the hdhr fit into this?
[03:04:09] wagnerrp: its a dual tuner, like the 2250
[03:04:53] pennstatejoe741: I could hook that up to my DIY antenna, and then run an ethernet cable to a switch on my network and then my myth backend would find it??
[03:05:02] wagnerrp: yes
[03:05:30] pennstatejoe741: so if i get a hdhr, I don't need a pci card at all?
[03:05:50] wagnerrp: correct

[03:53:01] blarney: I have the audio set to "PulseAudio:default" in General settings

[03:53:58] blarney: wagnerrp: I see, so why would I see errors like: "PulseAudio Error: stream buffer underflow" ?
[03:54:16] wagnerrp: because you are trying to output to a pulseaudio node after it has been disabled
[03:54:36] wagnerrp: (just a guess)
[03:54:37] blarney: wagnerrp: and the "PulseAudio :default" option provided is to disable it?
[03:54:41] [R]: i think fedora might compiel with some stupid patches

[03:55:20] blarney: [R]: j-rod who does the packages seems to know what he's doing at least that's what I've observed

[03:56:00] blarney: wagnerrp: right, well I had this all working without pulse just fine before, and in fact without setting it to "PulseAudio default" I didn't get any sound at all
[03:56:17] blarney: wagnerrp: i.e. with 0.22 it worked fine

[03:59:07] wagnerrp: hopefully that will be different in 0.24

[03:59:56] wagnerrp: it should work fine as is if you let it disable pulseaudio and provide it the proper ALSA device in the settings

[08:36:04] Jay2k1: if there are recent files in it, it'll be it
[08:36:49] nobody88: there is nothing
[08:37:43] Jay2k1: can you access mythweb?
[08:38:27] nobody88: no
[08:39:09] nobody88: i didn't set it up
[08:39:32] Jay2k1: i wonder if there's a need to set it up
[08:39:53] Jay2k1: anyway, if you enter the IP of your myth machine in a browser and nothing is found, it's probably not working
[08:40:02] Jay2k1: you need to access the db in another way i guess
[08:40:27] justinh: oh no. I just participates in a swindle. son in-law of a guy who works here wanted 2 audio leads making up. From what was basically £50 a metre ribbon cable & crappy polythene RCA connectors with 'tellurium copper' conductors. What a douche
[08:40:50] nobody88: i have access to the database
[08:40:56] Jay2k1: or you do `find /* -type f -iname *.mpg` and look for the paths of the files...
[08:41:00] Jay2k1: ok
[08:41:15] Jay2k1: justinh can you help me on where to find the path to livetv in the db?
[08:41:21] justinh: no
[08:41:22] Jay2k1: i don't have access to my machine atm
[08:41:30] nobody88: and I know where my sheduled recording are. and I thin k live tv is also stored there, but I'm not sure
[08:41:36] justinh: everybody should *know* where recordings are stored
[08:41:58] Jay2k1: heh
[08:42:08] justinh: default ubuntu/mythbuntu installs set the default storage group to /var/lib/mythtv/recordings IIRC
[08:42:11] Jay2k1: well, what should be and what actually is is often different
[08:42:12] justinh: /var/lib/PFFT
[08:42:26] Jay2k1: yeah it's about livetv though
[08:42:26] justinh: otherwise the user would *know* because they *set* it
[08:42:39] Jay2k1: usually on ubuntu it's /var/lib/mythtv/livetv afair
[08:42:52] Jay2k1: in this case, though, it's not
[08:42:55] justinh: the default is to keep everything in one group AFAIK
[08:43:05] justinh: or if it's not it should be
[08:43:22] nobody88: ok the default storage group I set to /srv/media/mythtv
[08:43:29] nobody88: so livetv is also there?
[08:44:06] justinh: by default the livetv SG is the same as the default group
[08:44:13] nobody88: so it there is not the problem why livetv is working and sheduled recordings not always
[08:44:32] Jay2k1: the easiest way to find out is start watching livetv and look for a newly created file in there i guess
[08:44:34] justinh: thinking back, this isn't a file permissions issue
[08:44:44] justinh: it's more likely a tuner problem
[08:45:05] justinh: i.e. it's not being initialised properly all the time. sounds like drivers
[08:46:02] justinh: you never said what kind of tuner it is, and whether or not you've tried it with other programs
[08:46:31] nobody88: i tried is with other progrms.mplayer
[08:46:34] nobody88: no problem
[08:46:53] justinh: so what sort of tuner is it?
[08:47:14] nobody88: its a Budget-CI dvb ir receiver saa7146
[08:47:37] justinh: since when can mplayer user dvb devices natively? :-O
[08:47:40] justinh: *use
[08:48:07] nobody88: it can
[08:48:32] justinh: what – as in mplayer /dev/dvb/dvr0 ?
[08:48:34] nobody88: mplayer dvb://channel name
[08:48:56] justinh: meh
[08:51:43] nobody88: but could it be a driver problem if livetv is always working?
[08:52:18] justinh: possibly not, but it's hardly likely to be a permissions issue if recordings *sometimes* work is it?
[08:53:16] nobody88: is livetv doing someting different than sheduled recordings. does livetv wait longer for signal than sheduled recordings
[08:53:18] nobody88: ?
[08:53:34] justinh: by default, I don't know
[08:53:46] justinh: of course users can mess with those settings & royally screw things up :)

[12:23:51] lyricnz: must be 8
[12:23:52] wagnerrp: 8 is more reasonable, it hasnt been around for 10
[12:24:01] Jay2k1: so if the machine wakes up, it just starts mythwelcome, records, and is able tp shitdown afterwards
[12:24:06] k-man: i have 20 years of mythtv
[12:24:09] rockhound: i am on mythbuntu aswell ... with jya builds of mythtv ...
[12:24:09] Jay2k1: make that shutdown
[12:24:10] lyricnz: haha
[12:24:43] rockhound: anyhow
[12:24:49] rockhound: never used mythwelcome
[12:24:53] wagnerrp: k-man: what... did i just get done saying?
[12:25:11] rockhound: I thought it was only for fridge-TV-sets
[12:25:14] wagnerrp: now i want you to go up to the chalkboard, and write 100 times, 'mythtv has not been around for 20 years'
[12:25:14] Jay2k1: the downside of that way is, when you push the power button and go get a coffee while it boots up, and you're gone just a bit too long, it'll power off itself after 60 seconds :P
[12:25:25] k-man: wagnerrp: yeah, i just wanted to boast
[12:25:27] rockhound: aka mythfrontends
[12:25:50] k-man: i've been using myth since .16 i think
[12:26:01] k-man: maybe .15... no i think it was .16
[12:26:03] rockhound: Jay2k1: that just kills it for me
[12:26:10] Jay2k1: humm?
[12:26:21] Jay2k1: you could always set the idle time higher
[12:26:22] rockhound: the being gone too long part
[12:26:22] wagnerrp: rockhound: im sure you can adjust those timeouts
[12:26:40] wagnerrp: or, you could always put it in standby instead of completely offline
[12:26:44] lyricnz: I never even had a recording device to start with, then finally got a pvr-350, which was kickass
[12:26:49] rockhound: wagnerrp: okay ... but is mythwelcome the only alternative to getting the timer script to execute on shutdown?
[12:27:07] wagnerrp: spend a couple dollars a year in power, get near instant startups
[12:27:16] wagnerrp: rockhound: mythwelcome doesnt do much of anything
[12:27:25] wagnerrp: all the intelligence is in the backend
[12:27:28] rockhound: wagnerrp: knew that
[12:27:33] Jay2k1: there's a setting in mythwelcome that it'd start the frontend automatically when it's booted manually, and that it does not start it when it has booted itself for a scheduled recording... now with 0.23 i didn't try yet but in 0.22 this didn't work for me
[12:27:37] wagnerrp: it shuts down and sets the timer as it pleases
[12:27:55] wagnerrp: the problem is that mythfrontend connects to the backend in a manner that prevents the backend from shutting down
[12:28:23] rockhound: okay okay ... but I would love the backend to execute my setwakeup script upon every shutdown
[12:28:23] wagnerrp: mythwelcome only exists to exit out of the frontend, but still provide an IR controllable menu to allow you to get back into it without a keyboard/mouse
[12:28:31] rockhound: that must be doable
[12:28:32] Jay2k1: a propos, when i shutdown now, the backend keeps respawning
[12:28:43] k-man: is there a list somewhere of when the different versions of mytht were released?
[12:28:57] rockhound: Jay2k1: that is the upstart script
[12:29:05] rockhound: there is a respawn statement inside
[12:29:09] Jay2k1: ah
[12:29:29] rockhound: k-man: tried wikipedia?
[12:29:32] rockhound: ;-)
[12:29:42] wagnerrp: k-man: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/tags
[12:29:51] rockhound: or that ;-)
[12:30:13] rockhound: hmm ... I may be describing in error what I am trying to figure out
[12:30:33] Jay2k1: so you use acpi wakeup but always have to shutdown manually?
[12:31:10] k-man: nice thanks wagnerrp

[12:32:14] rockhound: I use acpi wakeup which is activated correctly when the backend hits its timeout (like no recording in the next 2 hours) etc ... but I often times shutdown the main rig via menu which does not process the setwakeup script ... so no acpi time is set and the damn thing does not turn on in time for the next recording
[12:32:23] wagnerrp: 0.17 was 02/11/05

[13:19:29] oobe: there are loads and loads of threads with ppl having problems
[13:19:38] Jay2k1: has to do with some internal error counter iirc
[13:19:38] oobe: but i havent had a problem
[13:19:57] oobe: im only looking into it cause i had another drive die that wasnt all that old
[13:20:11] wagnerrp: yeah, theres some internal 6-bit counter or something
[13:20:22] wagnerrp: and if it loops over to 0, and you shut down, the drive is shot
[13:20:22] oobe: yes Jay2k1 that bug
[13:20:31] Jay2k1: exactly
[13:20:40] oobe: should i be worried
[13:20:54] Jay2k1: i don't know if there's an easy way to read out that value
[13:21:01] wagnerrp: well that puts it at about a 3% chance of death on each reboot
[13:21:23] Jay2k1: but now that it's been quite some time since discovery of that bug, i'd say it's pretty safe to update the firmware
[13:21:35] oobe: i actually have enough space to backup the contents unplug my other drives and install the new firmware
[13:21:41] oobe: so i guess its safe

[13:36:52] wagnerrp: the power of fedora compiels you
[13:37:46] j-rod: there's a grand total of three patches in the rpm fusion mythtv 0.23 packages: 1) mythtv svn fixes 2) mythplugins svn fixes and 3) a patch to put the rpm version info into —version output rather than 'exported'
[13:38:32] j-rod: so the only thing that isn't 100% upstream -fixes is the version output patch
[13:39:54] j-rod: in completely unrelated news… I've successfully written an ir-core "decoder" plugin that simply passes raw IR data along to lirc_dev, which then passes data along to lircd.
[13:40:34] j-rod: so my new ir-core mceusb driver has zero lirc-isms in it, but can still output data via /dev/lirc0 to lircd if so desired
[13:40:38] j-rod: its pretty fucking cool
[13:41:18] j-rod: can even have simultaneous in-kernel and userspace decode if you're masochistic (or just want to double-check the decoders against one another)
[13:42:44] janneg: j-rod: just include a VERSION file with the information you want or patch it if you use the official tarballs as source
[13:43:33] j-rod: janneg: that's basically what I'm doing (I use the official tarballs as a base)
[13:43:49] j-rod: but I could be Doing It Wrong

[13:45:25] wagnerrp: speaking of 'Doing It Wrong'....

[13:45:46] j-rod: and the rpm spec file swaps in something appropriate for ###SOURCE_VERSION###
[13:45:47] wagnerrp: janneg: do you know of a cleaner way to override the 'uninstall' directive in a project file... http://pastebin.org/297923
[13:46:20] wagnerrp: that .pro works, but it ends up with two separate 'uninstall' sections in the makefile
[13:47:01] j-rod: so for example, mythbackend —version -> MythTV Version  : 0.23–1.fc12 (r24509)

[13:49:17] j-rod: oh. damn. haha. now I see where that's done in the script.

[19:01:56] skd5aner: jarle: to the best of my memory, no
[19:02:24] justinh: wow. does it add group names & generate torrents too?
[19:02:37] jarle: skd5aner: possibly some db-changes that mythweb isn't handling correctly?
[19:02:44] skd5aner: jarle: but then again, I haven't really checked either
[19:02:50] rockhound: I just want some mp4/aac conversion ... so neverd bothered
[19:02:55] rockhound: to check
[19:03:01] kormoc: mythweb doesn't hit the DB directly for deletes
[19:03:04] kormoc: we ask the backend to do it
[19:03:13] kormoc: it might be erroring out and we're not gracefully handling it
[19:03:18] kormoc: you'd have to check the backend logs

[19:04:00] skd5aner: kormoc: I tried it once, shortly after I upgraded to .23-fixes (before release), and I'd hit the "delete + re-record" button and nothing would happen... jarle, is that what you're seeing?
[19:04:23] justinh: 1.5 TB HDDs are like ooo... so little now.. and people still bother transcoding? yawn
[19:04:34] jarle: kormoc: I'll try grepping the backend log (for delete maybe?)
[19:04:48] skd5aner: justinh: yes ;)
[19:04:51] kormoc: for the recording that you're attempting to delete
[19:05:28] jarle: skd5aner: I am trying to delete and rerecord a 0-byte recording
[19:05:32] rockhound: hehe
[19:05:37] skd5aner: justinh: but, I would like a way to "losslessly" transcode h264 material, to remove commercials and such
[19:05:45] kormoc: that'd be why
[19:05:52] kormoc: we don't have zero byte recordings correctly in mythweb
[19:05:53] skd5aner: jarle: yes, it was the same for me... 0-byte recording
[19:06:05] jarle: skd5aner: the file is deleted, but the next time the show is on it says it was previously recorded
[19:06:16] kormoc: it shouldn't even get deleted
[19:08:10] jarle: kormoc: I currently get several 0-byte recordings, and I haven't picked up on this problem until recently...
[19:09:19] skd5aner: kormoc: so, if I have a 0-byte recording, and it shows up in my recordings list on mythweb, and I hit delete + re-record, is that known to be broken?
[19:09:36] jarle: kormoc: I haven't checked if the file is actually deleted, but it is removed from the list of recordings anyway...
[19:10:08] skd5aner: I almost always use the frontend to delete+re-record when that happens, but was trying it from mythweb one day when it never worked... the item just stayed in the list if I remember correctly
[19:10:11] kormoc: the known behavior is that it'd disappear from the recording list but will reappear on a refresh and would be there in mythfrontend
[19:10:37] skd5aner: kormoc: ok, right – I think that's the behavior I saw
[19:11:12] skd5aner: kormoc: why does mythweb struggle with 0-byte recordings?
[19:11:18] kormoc: jarle: on a refresh, it should show back up
[19:11:45] jarle: guess I'll use the frontend to delete failed recordings from now then. However I really like mythfrontend for a quick and easy way to see which reordings failed..
[19:12:01] kormoc: skd5aner: because normal deletes fail, so we have to trap that specific failure and try with a different delete command
[19:12:08] jarle: should be: I really like mythweb..
[19:12:14] skd5aner: jarle: that's what I do anyway :)
