[02:56:14] wagnerrp: really... i didnt know that used python
[03:02:51] skd5aner: wagnerrp: yup – mytharchive was just an evolution of the third-party mythburn scripts
[03:02:55] jya (jya!~avenardj@60-242-40-141.static.tpgi.com.au) has quit (Quit: jya)
[03:04:15] skd5aner: I think paulh took the original mythburn and transformed it to a mythplugin, but a good portion of the scripts remained
[03:04:55] skd5aner: also – the first versions of mythburn scripts were actually integrated with mythweb and not the frontend
[03:07:00] dashcloud: I can't seem to get my database to restore- I follow the instructions- drop the old database, create the new one with mc.sql, change the mythtv default sql password to my current one, flush privileges, and try to restore my db. It always says Unable to do full restore- the database contains data.
[03:07:18] skd5aner: mag0o: this looks like something to focus on: "chmod: changing permissions of `/tmp/mytharchive/': Operation not permitted"
[03:08:24] skd5aner: dashcloud: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore & ndash; you referring to these directions?
[03:08:29] dashcloud: yes
[03:08:51] wagnerrp: huh... ive got three recording drives
[03:09:01] wagnerrp: and three recordings simultaneously on one of the drives
[03:09:33] dashcloud: I recently installed mythbuntu onto my new pc, and was following that guide to replace the existing db with my old one from my previous pc
[03:11:05] skd5aner: I'm assuming you read the "replacing an existing database" section of the wiki article?
[03:11:27] mag0o: skd5aner: i saw that the first time it errored out so i changed /tmp/mytharchive 777 and still get that, so that's why I brought it here :)
[03:11:48] skd5aner: mag0o: it's never the obvious stuff :)
[03:12:35] mag0o: hmm...
[03:13:34] mag0o: so, upon further investigation, the config and logs dir are owned my the user that runs the frontend, while the work dir and subdirs are owned by root and 755
[03:14:17] skd5aner: does chown the dir make a difference?
[03:14:49] mag0o: actually, just the subdirs in work are owned by root and 755
[03:14:57] mag0o: i'll try that and see
[03:15:41] dashcloud: skd5aner: is this the correct set of steps to restore my backup? http://mythtv.pastebin.ca/1794226

[03:45:32] sphery: CNLiberal: mythfilldatabase never puts channels in the DB for digital sources since generally either a) the channels aren't usable without a scan or b) the channels are not necessarily available under your cable subscription
[03:45:51] sphery: CNLiberal: what are you using for capture?
[03:46:33] sphery: CNLiberal: see mythfilldatabase --help (and look closely at --do-not-filter-new-channels )
[03:47:09] sphery: though it will /only/ work for channels that are externally tuned (i.e. by a cable or satellite box or an HDTV converter feeding some analog capture device)
[03:47:19] christ_ (christ_!~Billybob@CPE00e04b0b7799-CM00111a59bdac.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[03:48:58] CNLiberal: i'm using an HDHR
[03:49:17] CNLiberal: it's scanning now...but i'll need to fill in the db for the channel info
[03:50:30] CNLiberal: i'll look at the --help when it's done
[03:50:35] sphery: yeah, you'll need to scan with the HDHR, then you fill in the xmltvid, then you run mythfilldatabase
[03:51:03] CNLiberal: "fill in the xmltvid"?
[03:51:04] sphery: see http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/264034#264034 (and note that the link it refers to is now at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Frontend_Channel_Editor )
[03:51:08] CNLiberal: ahh
[03:51:13] CNLiberal: yeah the Channel editor
[03:51:15] CNLiberal: i've been readin that
[03:51:45] sphery: yeah, the xmltvid is what links a MythTV channel to a listings-provider channel so mythfilldatabase knows which shows correspond to which channels
[03:52:13] sphery: CNLiberal: also, if you're using Comcast cable, you may want to check out http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Comcast_Users_And_scte65scan
[03:52:26] CNLiberal: i couldn't get scte65scan to compile
[03:52:31] sphery: i.e. it will do everything for you (but only for cable co's using SCTE65
[03:52:46] sphery: that part I can't help with
[03:53:24] CNLiberal: ok...so scan is done..."Found 7new non-conflicting ATSC channels"
[03:53:25] sphery: but basically, all the info Myth needs is in the stream--just not in a place Myth can use it (at this point). So, you can either do the scan and then manually match things up or just use scte65scan
[03:53:46] CNLiberal: so i'm going to insert all
[03:53:48] sphery: I'm guessing the latter would be /much/ easier... So it may be worth trying to get scte65scan compiled
[03:53:57] sphery: yeah, insert all, then clean up the dups
[03:54:18] sphery: if you want to post any compile errors for scte65scan, I might be able to give you some pointers in the right direction
[03:54:33] CNLiberal: so now it says found 13 new conflicting SCTE channels
[03:55:02] sphery: yeah
[03:55:03] CNLiberal: should i insert manually or ignore?
[03:55:14] sphery: insert and clean up the dups later
[03:55:22] CNLiberal: manually u mean?
[03:55:31] sphery: you'll likely have to give each a different channel number/callsign
[03:55:35] CNLiberal: ok
[03:55:36] sphery: can make them up and edit them later
[03:55:42] sphery: so, yeah, manually
[03:58:51] CNLiberal: ok, so now i'm gonna look up the mthfill db stuff
[03:59:25] sphery: yeah, once scanned, you just have to identify the channels and then add the xmltvid's using the channel editor
[03:59:48] sphery: and it's useful to change channel numbers and channel callsigns and channel descriptions (all using the channel editor) for your own benefit
[04:00:46] CNLiberal: i'll check it out
[04:00:46] sphery: CNLiberal: note, also, that your system falls under the "doesn't provide sufficient information"
[04:01:19] sphery: so you can't just run mythfilldatabase and expect things to match up automatically (since we don't yet do out-of-band channel info processing--such as for SCTE65)
[04:01:39] sphery: so your channels don't have enough info, so you have to manually add xmltvid's
[04:01:44] CNLiberal: yeah i doubt it'll match up automatically
[04:02:18] sphery: though once you do xmltvid's, you can run mythfilldatabase --do-channel-updates to have it update names/callsigns/descriptions, etc.
[04:02:42] sphery: then fix any stragglers manually
[04:02:50] CNLiberal: yay...love manual
[04:02:51] CNLiberal: lol
[04:09:28] CNLiberal: do i just change the XMLTVID or do i change the callsign, channel # and channel name too?
[04:10:14] sphery: either way
[04:10:30] sphery: I'd probably start with just the xmltvid and then try mythfilldatabase --do-channel-updates
[04:10:40] sphery: it should work
[04:11:21] CNLiberal: k
[04:11:21] sphery: but if it doesn't, at least you'll be able to look at the listings for the channel (i.e. in the MythWeb Listings page) to identify which is which (so you can change them all at once in the MythWeb channel editor)
[04:13:00] CNLiberal: this is delightful...now the freaking keyboard or remote isn't changing the channel
[04:13:13] CNLiberal: alt-tab isn't working either
[04:15:06] CNLiberal: i kill'd the FE...trying again
[04:15:08] CNLiberal: i love this
[04:15:10] CNLiberal: :-(
[04:16:26] CNLiberal: MOTHER F!
[04:16:34] CNLiberal: so i can only do one channel at a time?
[04:16:48] CNLiberal: before the fe stops responding
[04:17:12] sphery: then don't use the frontend channel editor

[04:41:55] CNLiberal: what am I doing wrong?
[04:43:12] wagnerrp: mag0o: basically, its looking for a 'coverfile' node, and finding none
[04:43:22] wagnerrp: could you pastebin a copy of the profile?

[04:45:04] wagnerrp: mag0o: it may also be due to you not being the owner of /tmp/mytharchive

[04:49:12] wagnerrp: linker errors

[04:50:49] CNLiberal: when i do a sudo make install, i get (ignoring request to make install)
[04:51:11] CNLiberal: that's on the libhdhomerun
[04:52:24] wagnerrp: why not just su to root, and 'make install'
[04:53:08] CNLiberal: same thing happens
[04:53:08] ** wagnerrp doesnt get using sudo on a single-admin system **
[04:54:29] CNLiberal: libhdhomerun.so still lives at /usr/local/lib
[04:54:45] wagnerrp: the only reason to use sudo is if you want to delegate certain abilities to other users without giving them full admin rights
[04:54:57] CNLiberal: could it be because i have installed the hdhrconfig program from apt?
[04:55:03] wagnerrp: all other uses are an exercise in futility, and youre simply protecting the system from yourself

[05:01:39] wagnerrp: ive never seen anything like that
[05:01:39] CNLiberal: and teh make goes through fine
[05:01:52] sphery: can't you just run it out of the dir?
[05:01:58] wagnerrp: i figured that was some sort of sudo thing
[05:01:59] sphery: like ./scte65scan ?
[05:02:19] sphery: I don't think there's really any reason to install it
[05:02:50] wagnerrp: sphery: didnt xbox support get dropped?
[05:02:55] CNLiberal: http://pastebin.ca/1794294
[05:03:14] sphery: wagnerrp: yeah, I think so
[05:03:26] wagnerrp: meaning you just cant use it?
[05:03:39] wagnerrp: or you have to use some outside framebuffer display like with the 350?
[05:03:50] sphery: I think it was just the xbox specific stuff like LED's and ...
[05:04:01] sphery: don't know if it would still work or not without it
[05:04:15] sphery: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/22786
[05:05:11] sphery: TTBOMK, there's no XBox specific stuff in Myth, now, but if you can make an XBox work like a "normal" Linux box, it may well work on it
[05:05:20] sphery: (well, as well as an 800MHz P3 can work)
[05:06:04] sphery: CNLiberal: what's output of: find /dev/dvb
[05:06:16] wagnerrp: s/800MHz P3/733MHz Celeron/
[05:06:24] CNLiberal: no such file or directory
[05:06:26] sphery: CNLiberal: also, might want to try ./scte65scan --help
[05:06:27] wagnerrp: dont oversell that thing
[05:06:36] sphery: wagnerrp: oops... didn't remember
[05:06:39] wagnerrp: its even more anemic than you lead on
[05:07:02] sphery: CNLiberal: I'm guessing HDHR does things differently and you just need to pass the appropriate args to scte65scan
[05:07:23] CNLiberal: unfortunately, there's no way i can pass in the hdhr info...it needs to be compiled in
[05:07:35] CNLiberal: because right now, it's wanting /dev/dvb as the input
[05:08:13] sphery: ./scte65scan -H FFFFFFFF -f3 -V 3058 us-Cable-Standard-center-frequencies-QAM256 > vct.sql

[05:09:18] CNLiberal: lol...yeah i don't get it
[05:09:25] CNLiberal: i'm on the hdhomerun channel
[05:09:35] sphery: I've never used the program--I don't even have cable--so you're as likely to figure it out as I am
[05:09:51] sphery: they'll probably be a lot more help than me
[05:10:08] CNLiberal: so what do you record from?
[05:10:13] sphery: or someone in here might be able to help when there are more people around
[05:10:17] sphery: OTA baby!
[05:10:34] CNLiberal: yeah, i have an outdoor antenna, but its garbage
[05:10:57] sphery: Only way to go... No encryption, no monthly subscription, no cable company doing everything they can to make me pay more money...
[05:11:10] mag0o: so, it's not the ownership of the output dir – going to change the output profile and try again
[05:11:41] sphery: And most importantly, I'm actually voting against cable by refusing to use it. Now I'm just trying to convince a couple hundred million of my closest friends to support me in the fight against cable...
[05:12:19] sphery: so far the best I've done is convert one friend and get another to get an antenna and drop his cable subscription to a lower tier..  :(
[05:13:05] sphery: Only 199,999,998 1/2 people to go
[05:13:45] CNLiberal: it's hard where i live unfortunately
[05:14:18] sphery: yeah, I'm very lucky
[05:14:49] CNLiberal: but i've done it at one time, when i lived somewhere else, and there was a noticable difference in picture quality
[05:14:58] sphery: all the transmitters are within 3deg of each other from my house and I live on a (very flat) sandbar, so I get good signals
[05:15:51] CNLiberal: well this really blows...i really dislike comcast
[05:15:59] CNLiberal: they're the reason i'm in all this trouble
[05:16:00] sphery: I could never get analog channels because I was in a "Class B" reception area, but since that doesn't exist with digital, they actually have to send out a good signal
[05:16:13] CNLiberal: if they hadn't switched around the channels on me, i wouldn't have had to rescan my QAM
[05:16:33] sphery: you'll probably have better luck finding people who can help some other time... it's just a quiet night in here
[05:16:37] CNLiberal: and wouldn't have lost all my analog channels, or had issues with livetv
[05:16:45] sphery: and starting to get on the late side for some of the US people

[09:36:51] wagnerrp: shouldnt that just fall through to the basic?
[09:36:56] justinh: so the problem is likely that the plugin's default xml file is wrong or didn't install properly

[09:38:18] justinh: for everything else mythmusic should fall back to the default/music-ui.xml or default-wide/music-ui.xml file

[10:08:15] hachi: my tv seems to be getting it right
[10:08:21] justinh: how do you know?

[10:09:02] hachi: there slightly is
[10:09:16] justinh: providers often do non-standard stuff that mythtv has to have workaround tricks for
[10:09:25] justinh: bah
[10:10:02] hachi: inevitably 1 out of every 10 also cause mythtv to exit live tv with an error

[10:10:53] hachi: well, I will admit that I don't know if they're all working
[10:11:07] justinh: the provider are prolly doing something daft, and your teevee is following the same hymn sheet
[10:11:11] hachi: cause it takes soooo long to delete a channel so that I can skip it, or edit channels, or even change channels
[10:11:31] hachi: so how does mythtv even assign the channels then
[10:11:36] justinh: they have these things they laughingly call 'specs'
[10:11:38] hachi: cause I'm playing with the dvb 'scan' tool
[10:11:51] hachi: and it doesn't give off channels like mythtv either
[10:12:01] hachi: instead two byte hex channel numbers
[10:12:21] justinh: mythtv developers initially read these 'specs' & code accordingly.. then find to their horror that broadcasters do stuff not on paper
[10:12:38] hachi: that's the best part about specs

[11:32:49] gbee: when scanning? You can increase the timeouts
[11:33:08] hachi: when changing channels in 'live TV'
[11:33:27] hachi: I get "Error was encountered while displaying video."
[11:33:58] hachi: if I just try to tune the channel a few times, it eventually works... I think it's timing out because mplayer takes forever to tune and fire up a chanel too
[11:34:06] gbee: hmm, that shouldn't be caused by a failure to tune but a failure to find any video/audio/data

[11:42:16] gbee: Sky are no longer charging extra for HD
[11:42:25] jduggan: not even the install fee?

[11:43:03] gbee: not sure, but no recurring charge whatever package you go with
[11:43:35] gbee: and I think I read that they are providing non-DVR HD STBs, so you aren't tied to the DVR rental either

[19:46:14] devinheitmueller: Because the channel scanner already has a checkbox to skip encrypted channels.
[19:47:14] xris: devinheitmueller: no, I'm importing things with scte65scan
[19:47:38] xris: so I need something to re-scan for encryption after I already know the frequencies
[19:47:45] devinheitmueller: Ah, well in that case scte65scan would probably have to be responsible for not reporting the encrypted channels.

[19:48:22] xris: and the scte info doesn't seem to show encryption status for channels/subchannels
[19:48:47] devinheitmueller: xris: hmmm, I don't know if that is actually true.
[19:49:04] devinheitmueller: I think scte/65 actually does have a field indicating whether the channel is encrypted.
[19:49:18] devinheitmueller: (but perhaps the scte65scan tool doesn't look for it)
[19:50:02] xris: that's likely
[19:50:13] xris: will have to dig through it once mfdb is done running
[19:50:23] devinheitmueller: It's a shame nobody has felt the urge to merge this stuff into the MythTV channel scanner proper.
[19:50:38] ** xris is annoyed because he accidentally delete all of the QAM HD broadcast channels.. including the one showing Olympics tonight **
[19:51:52] xris: devinheitmueller: no time. all of us devs are either working on other things, or have newborns to take care of.  :)
[19:51:58] devinheitmueller: yup.

[19:56:20] AndyCap: Seems they have a new HD channel on the cable company. good.
[19:56:37] elmojo: RDV_Linux: are you using passthru?
[19:56:57] ** AndyCap was worried it would be encrypted to push their evil pvr boxes **
[19:57:53] RDV_Linux: elmojo: Yes with both Mythtv and mplayer, just get different volumes with either. I have no idea how passthru every gets its volume changed.
[19:59:07] wagnerrp: xris: if comcast in your area has started encrypting those channels, chances are theyre encrypting ALL channels
[19:59:15] elmojo: RDV_Linux: mplayer must be re-encoding and normalizing the volume would be my guess
[19:59:38] elmojo: RDV_Linux: might want to ask jya about that when he's around
[19:59:42] AndyCap: btw, is there some button to show resolution/codec on the programme you're watching?
[19:59:59] RDV_Linux: elmojo: You are most likely correct.
[20:00:17] wagnerrp: since those channels are completely independent of the HD rebroadcasts of the local channels, theres nothing saying they cant encrypt all of them
[20:00:57] devinheitmueller: xris: The VCT table does have an "access_controlled" field which I suspect is what the stce65scan tool would need to look at (see SCTE/65 Sec 5.6 Table 5.26.

[20:08:41] elmojo: sorry for not being much help with some of this stuff but it's not something I've spent much time looking into yet
[20:08:56] wagnerrp: elmojo: that sounds like something better implemented through something like ReplayGain
[20:09:27] wagnerrp: let the commflagger set a gain, which would subsequently used during playback
[20:10:22] wagnerrp: perhaps ignoring the volume in predicted commercials
[20:10:48] RDV_Linux: elmojo: Thanks for your interest and input. Much appreciated.
[20:14:59] xris: devinheitmueller: nothing in the tool's code about ignoring encrypted status stuff, though... so it would need to be added.

[20:15:10] devinheitmueller: xris: yeah, that's what I assumed.
[20:15:42] wagnerrp: xris: they actually broadcast some channels in the clear and others with privacy mode?
[20:16:02] devinheitmueller: xris: in theory it should be only a couple of lines of code to add (to check the field in the VCT and skip if it's set), but the bigger issue is that it would need to be tested against various cable systems to address possible compatibility issues.
[20:16:52] xris: wagnerrp: yeah. broadcast stations are clear, and basic cable SD channels (not to mention the HD ones) are encrypted
[20:16:52] devinheitmueller: wagnerrp: I don't think this is even about privacy mode (although that would need to be investigated as well). The tool cannot even tell between ClearQAM and CableCard encrypted channels.
[20:17:23] wagnerrp: i thought the in-band tables only contained channels for use with the DTAs
[20:18:03] devinheitmueller: wagnerrp: they are targeted at DTAs (since Cablecard capable boxes have an OOB), but it wouldn't surprise me if the stce65 tables had both.
[20:18:13] xris: wagnerrp: most encrypted ones are available via firewire but I prefer to use my hdhr when I can because comcast has started disabling individual shows as well
[20:18:14] devinheitmueller: ... but that could easily vary by cable system.
[20:18:24] xris: wagnerrp: they got permission from the FCC to encrypt stuff for the DTAs as well
[20:18:54] xris: wagnerrp: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/397247
[20:19:04] wagnerrp: xris: right, what im saying is that i had believed the IB tables only contained data for the DTAs, which would now be in privacy mode, and unusable by mythtv
[20:19:12] wagnerrp: but this is pure assumption on my part
[20:19:13] xris: so probably not 5c, but scrambled some other way
[20:19:41] devinheitmueller: wagnerrp: I would assume that the SCTE65 tables would also need the ClearQAM channels, since the FCC waiver doesn't permit them to encrypt the must carry channels.
[20:19:43] xris: wagnerrp: the IB tables still contain broadcast channels which are required to be clear
[20:20:02] devinheitmueller: (and DTAs will still need to know where to find the must carry channels)
[20:20:08] xris: right
[20:20:17] wagnerrp: devinheitmueller: but the DTAs dont have the power to decode the local HD broadcasts, theyre using SD simulcasts
[20:20:27] xris: but the scte tool doesn't seem to have a way to distinguish between them so it still loads all of the private channels into mythtv
[20:20:31] devinheitmueller: OTOH, I would need to see a dump to know for certain.
[20:20:44] xris: wagnerrp: no clue on that one. the info is there for me, though
[20:21:00] xris: wagnerrp: and there are non-HD versions of the must-carry channels, too
[20:21:26] devinheitmueller: wagnerrp: I don't dispute that. Doesn't mean the info definitely isn't there though.

[21:08:28] hachi: thanks
[21:08:51] devinheitmueller: DTAs are generally low-cost settop boxes which generally only put out SD, and lack both Cablecard support and an OOB.

[21:12:47] devinheitmueller: hachi: it's not so much that it's a cost savings as it allows them to offer more HD channels and reallocate bandwidth for on demand programming and Internet access (without having to add more capacity to their infrastructure). So it does save them cost in the long run.

[22:54:38] wagnerrp: have you checked the frontend logs?
[22:54:45] wagnerrp: and/or backend logs?
[22:56:00] Trav: same machine same version I checked frontend logs don't now how to check the backend

[23:05:29] Trav: ok do the backend setup again?
[23:05:48] wagnerrp: no, figure out why your frontend isnt connecting

[23:09:08] wagnerrp: and has nothing to do with the frontend connection
[23:09:14] Trav: it also says DVBChan(1:/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0) Error: SetChannelByString(16): Failed to initialize multiplex options
[23:09:29] Trav: what does that mean?
[23:09:32] wagnerrp: again, nothing to do with the frontend connection
[23:09:36] wagnerrp: pastebin your frontend logs
[23:10:20] Trav: where is frontend logs?
[23:10:30] wagnerrp: hopefully in that same folder
[23:10:39] Trav: I was looking on the myth tv system status
[23:11:56] Trav: ok
[23:12:22] devinheitmueller: Yeah, the frontend logs are not available through the GUI. You need to drop to a console and look for /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log
[23:12:50] Trav: I have mythfilldatabase.log
[23:13:10] Trav: no mythfrontend.log
[23:13:15] Trav: do i need to turn it on?
[23:13:17] devinheitmueller: :-/
[23:13:22] devinheitmueller: No, it should be enabled by default.
[23:13:33] devinheitmueller: How about you pastebin the output of "ls /var/log/mythtv"
[23:16:41] Trav: pastebin is the command (sorry nubie)
[23:16:41] hachi: anyone know what tools I can use to start tearing apart the receptions from an DVB- ATSC card?
[23:17:16] devinheitmueller: hachi: what do you mean by "tearing apart"?
[23:17:28] devinheitmueller: Trav: http://pastebin.com/
[23:18:18] hachi: I can't find how my TV is getting channel markers for things
[23:18:34] hachi: I have to assume it's there, and just being ignored because of a wrong marker or something
[23:18:34] devinheitmueller: hachi: what do you mean by channel markers?
[23:19:20] devinheitmueller: hachi: you appear to be making up terminology to describe your problem. Please explain what you are trying to do in simpler terms.
[23:19:24] hachi: like channel 2 is marked as channel 120#0 in mythtv when it scans
[23:19:26] hachi: yess
[23:19:41] hachi: I am making up terminology
[23:19:51] devinheitmueller: hachi: are you doing ATSC or ClearQAM?
[23:20:01] hachi: ATSC QAM-256 as far as I know
[23:20:08] hachi: I've never seen the term ClearQAM yet
[23:20:22] devinheitmueller: hachi: Are you connecting to an over-the-air antenna, or digital cable?
[23:20:27] hachi: digital cable
[23:20:34] devinheitmueller: Ok, then you're doing ClearQAM.
[23:20:50] hachi: how do I tell mythtv to do that instead of ATSC?
[23:21:06] devinheitmueller: The names of the channels typically come from the VCT info provided by the cable company. And if the channel names are not inband, MythTV makes up names.
[23:21:23] hachi: yeah, but my TV is labelling them right
[23:21:25] devinheitmueller: ... and you can change the names in the channel editor under mythtv-setup.
[23:21:36] hachi: and I have 300+ programs to label
[23:21:47] devinheitmueller: I'm not going to debate the quality of the channel scanner in MythTV.
[23:22:06] devinheitmueller: Also, are you using the MythTV channel scanner, or did you import the data from scte65scan?
[23:22:08] hachi: that's why I'm trying to find tools in dvb-apps or something
[23:22:12] bjd: its not that great is it?
[23:22:28] devinheitmueller: bjd: it could definitely use some work.
[23:22:34] hachi: scte65scan halted
[23:22:35] bjd: mmm
[23:22:52] bjd: i had issues cos i picked up two transmitters ;/
[23:22:56] hachi: I tried using 'scan'
[23:23:19] hachi: I've also tried the mythtv channel scanner
[23:23:35] devinheitmueller: hachi: Well, if you used "scan" then you didn't get the benefits of the SCTE65 info, and if the cable company didn't embed the info in PSIP, then you won't be able to get the channel names.
[23:23:43] Trav: ok her the ls http://pastebin.com/f6281b090
[23:23:53] devinheitmueller: How long did you wait when you say that "scte65scan halted"?
[23:23:59] hachi: 2 hours

[23:24:14] devinheitmueller: Yeah, 2 hours seems a bit on the high end.  :-/
[23:24:15] hachi: at the '2 minutes' screen
[23:24:24] hachi: I've got it running again
[23:24:36] hachi: but the thing is... I need something to work with... I'm cranking up -v
[23:24:43] hachi: but basically, nothing tells me any information
[23:24:55] devinheitmueller: Trav: You don't seem to have a frontend log. Maybe because whatever user you are running the frontend as some user who doesn't have write privileges to that directory.
[23:24:56] hachi: are there PSIP markers being found, but they're malformed... is there 0 traffic?

[23:25:12] Trav: k
[23:25:17] hachi: and see if the data is even there on the line
[23:25:43] devinheitmueller: hachi: yeah, you would probably need to either turn up the verbosity of scte65scan, or add some debugging info to the source.
[23:26:19] devinheitmueller: Nonetheless, it'
[23:26:45] devinheitmueller: s not surprising that the mythtv channel scanner and "scan" wouldn't be able to determine the channel names for ClearQAM, since most cable providers do not provide PSIP info.
[23:27:12] hachi: the thing is, I know my provider is sending something out, because the TV does the right thing
[23:27:26] devinheitmueller: hachi: and this is without a cable box?
[23:27:31] hachi: yup
[23:27:34] hachi: no box
[23:27:42] devinheitmueller: It could very well be some issue with mythtv's scanner not properly parsing the info.
[23:27:53] devinheitmueller: I can make no claims to how well the mythtv channel scanner works.
[23:27:55] hachi: but stracing scte65scan -k -p
[23:27:57] GreyFoxx: the box downloads the channel mapping info over a seperate means than the dvb data
[23:28:08] hachi: the demux0 device node isn't even outputting anything
[23:28:14] devinheitmueller: GreyFoxx: he said he didn't have a cable box.
[23:28:51] GreyFoxx: Weird, most providers only pass channel mapping info and program giuide via another communication spec and not in the standard dvb streams
[23:28:59] devinheitmueller: GreyFoxx: he said his *television* got the channel info, suggesting the mythtv scanner isn't picking up the CVCT.
[23:29:09] hachi: I honestly don't know what it implies
[23:29:10] GreyFoxx: my TV for example has no fracking idea what channel is what when I do a clear qam scan :)
[23:29:21] devinheitmueller: GreyFoxx: agreed, except his TV picked up the data, suggesting it was inband.
[23:29:38] GreyFoxx: Probably via guide+ or something
[23:29:44] hachi: bluh
[23:29:50] hachi: my TV does have a guide thing in it
[23:29:51] devinheitmueller: GreyFoxx: unlikely if it's digital.
[23:30:02] hachi: it crashes and makes the TV really slow
[23:30:05] hachi: like a bad computer
[23:30:05] devinheitmueller: hachi: oh, you do have a third party guide?
[23:30:09] hachi: it's really weird
[23:30:17] devinheitmueller: Yeah, in that case it might be figuring out the channel names from some external source.
[23:30:18] hachi: it's TVGuide
[23:30:24] hachi: painted on the face of the TV
[23:30:38] hachi: well, it's still doing it via the cable line though
[23:31:05] hachi: if I might ask, why don't services like schedules direct show the QAM tuning info for the channels
[23:31:19] hachi: instead of this virtual number that seems to be untracked in any form
[23:31:34] devinheitmueller: hachi: the providers are continuously moving the frequencies for the ClearQAM channels, so SD wouldn't be able to keep up.
[23:32:03] devinheitmueller: It's not like NTSC where "channel 4" can always be found on the same frequency.
[23:32:07] hachi: :\
[23:32:08] hachi: yeah
[23:32:08] J-e-f-f-A: Does his tv have 'gemstar' (or was that just analog cabe?)
[23:32:28] hachi: okay, so...
[23:32:34] hachi: the guide broke a few months ago
[23:32:52] hachi: and hasn't worked since either, I forgot about that
[23:33:09] hachi: but it used to get the guide data via the cable line somehow
[23:33:13] hachi: not a different data transport
