[00:23:14] iamlindoro: wagnerrp: Implemented your feature suggestion, just need to get back home to test it
[00:23:29] iamlindoro: Since now I can freely change the DB schema
[00:25:03] RDV_Linux: mersault: Yes you use a jamu.conf file and add entries to the "[series_name_override]" section. See the jamu-example.conf file and wiki for details.
[00:27:09] justinh: whee a couple of twitter scripting users have got in touch to say they've changed the scripts so there'll be less #mythtv spam :)
[00:28:13] wagnerrp: well the only thing left i can think of for grabbers is insertion/updating
[00:28:25] wagnerrp: but tmdb/ttvdb dont have that as part of their API yet anyway do they?
[00:28:35] antgel: just to check – should my vdpau profile look like:
[00:28:46] antgel: if rez -> vdpau & vdpau 1
[00:28:46] antgel: ?
[00:29:10] wagnerrp: antgel: mythtv has built in VDPAU modes, just use those
[00:29:29] superm1: RDV_Linux, this is where you go and pump mcc-jamu..... ;P
[00:29:48] RDV_Linux: wagnerrp: What are you asking about the TVDB/TMDB apis?
[00:29:57] antgel: wagnerrp: built in modes? http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/VDPAU suggests i need to create a display profile
[00:30:17] wagnerrp: antgel: they were recently added to trunk, and backported to fixes
[00:30:40] RDV_Linux: superm1: I have not seen what was asked so I do not know what I am pumping ;)
[00:30:45] Wicked: hmm ive added info for a movie a few days ago to themoviedb but in mythtv the script still does not find the movie....and ive made sure the movie has a imdb entry
[00:30:50] antgel: wagnerrp: how recent? my svn 0.22-fixes is about a week old. can't svn up at the moment :(
[00:30:57] wagnerrp: RDV_Linux: i made some mention of altering the grabber scripts to return a URL to open in mythbrowser
[00:31:00] superm1: RDV_Linux, well i saw talk of jamu.conf from mersault
[00:31:06] wagnerrp: iamlindoro added it a couple minutes later
[00:31:29] wagnerrp: RDV_Linux: i was commenting that the only thing left to do with the grabbers is to allow updating their respective websites
[00:31:43] wagnerrp: but theres no sense doing so until their APIs support updating
[00:31:45] iamlindoro: committed the grabber portion, but holding off on the code part until I have a chance to test it
[00:32:06] RDV_Linux: superm1: You are right the part of mcc-jamu that I am finishing now addresses exactly his need with a GUI interface.
[00:32:07] iamlindoro: wagnerrp: right, no updating yet, sadly
[00:32:21] iamlindoro: wagnerrp: However, with a link straight to the site page for it, it's the next best thing
[00:32:39] wagnerrp: antgel: it was only added a couple days ago, it may not have made it into the release version
[00:32:52] mersault: wait, mcc interface to Jamu? Awesome.
[00:33:22] antgel: wagnerrp: cheers. i'll wait until the svn server is back
[00:33:32] antgel: maybe i should just svn up now and leave it, see what happens
[00:33:48] wagnerrp: it likely has some timeout
[00:33:52] Wicked: antgel, it just times out

[00:46:17] mersault: is the box svn.mythtv.org etc are on still accessible to admins?
[00:46:27] mersault: ie, do you guys have a con card on the sucker?
[00:47:24] wagnerrp: mersault: its not bandwidth, its CPU/memory consumption
[00:47:38] josh__: I have a small problem, apparently my pvr150 is not acting right, and after about an hour of watching it, it will cause the backend to crash. While I know the ultimate problem is the card, when the backend crashes while the frontend is trying to play, it will lock the frontend up completely unresponsive as well.
[00:48:23] wagnerrp: dynamic websites typically run out of that long before they run through their bandwidth allotments
[00:48:24] mersault: wagnerrp: time to cloud up that sucker :)
[00:48:49] laga: yeah, that sucker! d00d.
[00:48:50] wagnerrp: mersault: clouds cost money
[00:49:39] wagnerrp: and at at almost a dollar per CPU per hour on amazon, youre talking about hundreds of dollars of server costs for a slashdotting
[00:49:45] wagnerrp: perhaps thousands
[00:50:15] mersault: sorry, the hype from the engineers building our cloud at work is getting to me...
[00:50:35] wagnerrp: your engineers building your local cloud?
[00:50:44] wagnerrp: meaning you own the hardware, all the hardware?
[00:50:48] laga: that's just some micro climate
[00:50:59] wagnerrp: and you pay for the machine whether you use it or not?
[00:51:07] mersault: we get to use it for internal stuff as well, but it's for customers
[00:51:20] wagnerrp: thats not a cloud, thats just a normal cluster
[00:51:21] ** mersault works for a telecom/IT firm **

[00:52:10] sphery: wagnerrp: You wouldn't happen to know if you can plug a 4-pin ATX +12V power cable ( http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/c . . . html#atx12v4 ) into an 8-pin EPS +12V power connector on the mobo ( http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#eps8 ) for a single-proc system running a 65W TDP CPU and expect it to work, would you? The mobo supports 160W TDP CPU's, but that's overkill. The 8-pin is ...
[00:52:17] sphery: ... basically two 4-pins with the "other half" using a different square/round configuration (but the 4-pin fits fine in the "first half" of the 8-pin connector).
[00:53:10] wagnerrp: sphery: dont know, but im fairly certain you can buy adapters
[00:53:16] wagnerrp: since theyre just additional 12V lines
[00:53:21] sphery: newegg page told me the mobo needed ATX 24-pin, so I didn't realize it used EPS (though in hindsight the "supports 160W CPUs" stickers kind of imply it does)
[00:54:04] sphery: Yeah, you can. The connector will cost me a good $10, though, so I'd rather find a good deal on an 80 PLUS PSU that has the EPS connector than waste 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of a new PSU on the adapter.
[00:54:56] sphery: Some adapters go from 4-pin power connector to 8-pin power (meaning it's drawing from the same wire), others use 4-pin molex, so you could actually wire it to use different wires.
[00:55:22] sphery: Oh, btw, the adapters are anywere from $1-$5 but once shipping is added, it will be about $10 or more.
[00:55:44] sphery: I'd be more likely to wire up my own adapter than pay $10 :)

[01:02:07] sphery: wow... new laptop time (generally better than new battery)
[01:02:45] wagnerrp: sphery: yeah, considering those little nettops are more powerful than my laptop, and would cost less than a new battery

[01:03:38] awalls (awalls!n=awalls@01-038.155.popsite.net) has quit (Client Quit)
[01:03:51] sphery: depends what "starting to fail" means
[01:03:51] wagnerrp: (last time i bought new ones) the primary was $150, secondary was $190
[01:04:00] sphery: and how much you use battery versus mains
[01:04:07] laga: oh great, now i'm going to obsess over battery life time tomorrow. ;)
[01:04:12] sphery: heh
[01:04:39] wagnerrp: of course that was good for all day at school on wireless (about 7 hours)
[01:04:39] laga: i think the hard disk is not configured to spin down. no wonder i'm carrying two batteries all the time
[01:04:58] sphery: I let my last laptop battery drop to <50% of design capacity before I replaced the laptop--but I replaced the laptop because the cooling system was starting to fail (GPU would overheat and lock up)
[01:05:13] wagnerrp: i could probably stretch it out to 10hrs if i cut the screen brightness and didnt use wireless
[01:05:35] sphery: of course, I buy high-capacity batteries for my laptops (current being an exception--I got a normal and a high-cap battery because of a coupon I had)
[01:05:50] sphery: so even at <50% design capacity, I was still getting about 2hrs under battery
[01:06:34] sphery: Oh, and I always set screen to lowest brightness when on battery--and never really use wifi when on battery (since I mainly use battery on planes)
[01:07:11] josh__: sphery, my laptop does *not* like to be on battery
[01:07:26] josh__: and not because the battery is old/bad
[01:07:30] wagnerrp: im at 23Wh/58Wh and 7.5Wh/39Wh for my two
[01:08:20] wagnerrp: so well under 50%
[01:08:48] sphery: so now, newegg is going to think I'm the idiot that they thought I was... I bought all the components for a computer save the PSU--because I have PSU's I can use for it. But now because of needing the other connector, I may be buying a new PSU, anyway, so they'll think, "See, we told him so," (about the e-mail they sent after my purchase about "Shopping Helper: A few good accessories for your recent purchase" (all 80 PLUS ...
[01:08:54] sphery: ... PSU's)...
[01:09:17] sphery: might have to buy from amazon just so they don't know.  :)
[01:09:28] josh__: sphery, they won't think you're an idiot, they can just now charge you twice for shipping :p
[01:10:44] sphery: heh--but I almost always have free shipping
[01:10:56] josh__: I'm seriously considering running a vanilla kernel
[01:11:43] sphery: very impressed--newegg has moved, "Energy Efficient" from nearly the bottom of their search criteria to about 1/3 of the way from the top
[01:12:25] wagnerrp: sphery: your board does not exist

[01:14:14] wagnerrp: nevermind, apparently its a AM2+ board, not an AM3
[01:14:21] sphery: heh, sweet... there's an 80 PLUS PSU with 4+4 12v CPU power for $44.99 with free shipping and $5 off with promo code... And it's only a 430W instead of an overkill 550W or 650W (the smallest I found)

[01:18:01] wagnerrp: why are motherboard maker's websites so damn slow
[01:18:10] wagnerrp: theyre always painfully slow
[01:18:14] laga: ftp.asus.com – omg
[01:18:17] wagnerrp: and unnecessarily flashy
[01:19:19] sphery: no joke
[01:20:00] sphery: just found a $49.99 (free shipping) 400W 80-PLUS PSU with 8pin EPS and $20 MIR
[01:20:13] sphery: definitely better to buy a $30 PSU than a $10 converter cable
[01:20:47] sphery: (when I have only 2 more 80 PLUS PSU's and 4 systems with non-80-PLUS PSU's)
[01:21:30] sphery: single rail, so will work better for lots of 12V stuff
[01:21:56] sphery: (won't overload a one of 4 rails, type better)
[01:23:08] wagnerrp: seriously... why are they so flashy...
[01:23:27] wagnerrp: has anyone here ever gone to a motherboard website for something other than firmware/drivers/manual?
[01:23:55] sphery: heh, agreed
[01:23:56] laga: wagnerrp: data sheet.
[01:24:12] laga: well, that's the manual, i suppose..
[01:25:53] antgel: ah, it's compile-type=debug, not enable-debug. i didn't parse TFM
[01:28:09] sphery: wagnerrp: weird... http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Products/Pro . . . &LanID=9 says (under "Internal I/O Connectors & Headers") "1 x 4-pin 12V Connector"

[03:26:45] sphery: yeah, but with a query returning lots of rows, by the time we get to the end and with all the other output in the logs, it could be confusing

[03:53:18] sphery: i.e. if it is just a PVR-x50 thing it's that you have the wrong inputs configured because you're using a newer version of the driver

[09:41:13] wagnerrp: and now that i know what im doing, and can have mythtv up and running from a fresh database in about 10 minutes, i have no idea what tripped me up
[09:41:38] justinh: wagnerrp: I remember what tripped me up. the database stuff. oh and mixed package versions
[09:41:59] eFfeM: justinh: ok, thanks, is there an easy way to do this from setup then (or how do people generally do this)
[09:42:11] justinh: somehow got 0.16 & 0.15 crossthreaded
[09:42:16] wagnerrp: i think i struggled with drivers
[09:42:19] justinh: eFfeM: mythtv-setup
[09:42:34] wagnerrp: but i dont know why i would have, even back then getting ivtv running amounted to adding one line for modprobe
[09:42:48] justinh: oh and drivers. patch -pl < patch.txt l is not a number. Yes it ****ing is! look at it.. looks like a 1 to me!
[09:43:06] wagnerrp: i think i struggled with database permissions, but then i dont know why that would trip me up, seeming so simple to me now
[09:43:17] justinh: wagnerrp: I had to patch the 2.6.9 kernel to get my dvb tuner to work :)
[09:43:39] justinh: it ended up being about a fortnight of very late nights
[09:43:49] ** wagnerrp didnt even start using linux until like 2.6.12 **
[09:43:51] justinh: but most of that was waiting for the 800Mhz machine to stop emerging world
[09:44:02] eFfeM: justinh: i tried mythtv-setup, i know the channel setup menu and can add an individual channel there manually, but could not find a way to import them from the list from xmltv (and no idea how to bind the manual channels to xmltv either)
[09:44:21] justinh: eFfeM: you don't add channels through xmltv
[09:44:24] justinh: jees
[09:44:40] justinh: add the channel in mythtv-setup, put the xmltvid of the channel in the channel editor
[09:44:46] eFfeM: justinh: maybe i phrased it correctly
[09:45:11] wagnerrp: i installed it once or twice in the 2.4 times, but i really had no use for it back then

[09:45:30] justinh: if you have any channels in your xmltv config which don't show as valid xmltvids in the channel table when you run mythfilldatabase it'll add them & you will see EPG data for them but they will be utterly useless otherwise
[09:45:33] eFfeM: justinh: ah ok, this is just the opposite of mythweb where I could get a list with the channels from xmltv and fill in a frequency\
[09:45:51] justinh: depends what kind of setup you have
[09:46:08] justinh: if digital TV, add xmltvids to the channel information

[14:25:33] mzb: pak0, if you buy another card ... you mean _instead_of_ ?
[14:25:59] mzb: another card would require splitting the signal ... if it's already weak then that would be a problem
[14:26:35] mzb: a replacement card might be an idea ... but probably cheaper to check your wiring & signal strength (etc) AND YOUR AERIAL! ;)
[14:27:11] mzb: eg: have you used quad-shielded cable?
[14:27:48] pak0: yes
[14:27:51] mzb: what signal strength are you getting from each multiplex? are they different?

[14:30:23] mzb: before you go that far, have a look at:
[14:30:29] mzb: $ femon -H
[14:30:34] mzb: (think it's capital H)
[14:30:47] mzb: when you're tuned in to a problematic multiplex
[14:31:08] mzb: that will show you your signal strength .... err ... to some extent
[14:31:34] mzb: many of the drivers don't have it set right ... so hard to tell exactly
[14:31:44] pak0: status SCVYL | signal 69% | snr 0% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK
[14:32:01] mzb: but if signal or VER fluctuate, that's a problem
[14:32:06] pak0: i have this report alot of times
[14:32:10] mzb: looks ok

[14:32:46] mzb: hard to say
[14:33:12] mzb: got a splitter?

[18:55:07] sphery: kormoc: basically, "What about replacing the flash player with the HTML5 <video> tag for supported browsers? I was playing around last night and got a simple test working. [19:03:57] devinheitmueller: I guess the MythTV channel ATSC scanner doesn't extract PSIP info or SCTE65.
[19:04:29] justinh: orko: so you managed to make mp4 files with a higher bitrate than the mpeg2 files? lol
[19:04:43] whoDat_: on my cable box, the digital broadcast channels (in hd) are 403–411 .. on the tv directly they are 3.1,5.1.. up to i think 66.1 or what not.

[21:51:15] skd5aner: here's why I think, even after thouroughly re-reading the docs, why I think it's the right move in this case :)
[21:51:30] skd5aner: Analog Tuners – tune Channels 2–99
[21:51:41] skd5aner: Qam Tuners – about 20 or so channels in the 200s

[21:52:11] skd5aner: HDPVR – Tunes Channels 1–999 (whatever I get in between) – inclusive of all the channels that Analog and QAM tuners can tune
[21:52:16] DjMadness: is there any way to force mythfrontend to start when i am using the same server as an pulseaudio server ?

[21:53:22] skd5aner: so, the show I want to record is on FX, which is on analog 45 and digital (HD) 267
[21:53:51] skd5aner: Analog can tune 45, but HD-PVR's video source can tune both 45 and 267 – QAM can't, it's 5C
[21:54:33] skd5aner: So, regardless of input/tuner order, I have set the rule to prefer using the HD-PVR
[21:54:57] skd5aner: the HD-PVR is free at the time, but is chosing by default to record channel 45, when I want it to record 267
[21:54:59] sphery: DjMadness: that's a completely unhandled situation. Feel free to modify the code /iff/ there's a way to request suspending of PulseAudio for a networked server--yeah, the message is confusing because it uses the local system as the network server, but it's because it's using the networked Pulse that it doesn't work.

[21:56:24] skd5aner: sphery: yes – that would be /another/ option too :)
[21:56:27] DjMadness: sphery: it does work... but i am forced to edit config file, shutdown pulse, start mythfrontend, edit config file start pulse. its just starting the frontend thats complaining. was wondering if there was a way to override it.
[21:56:56] sphery: if you /have/ to have both the analog and the digital version of it in the HD-PVR video source, then what you're doing is fine, but you're better off getting rid of it--unless there's /any/ reason you can think of that you'd actually want to use the standard-def version of the channel through the HD-PVR
[21:57:11] skd5aner: but, what I ended up doing, rather than deleting/hiding those channels on the HD-PVR video source was lowering the rec priority for all channels 1–199 on that video source
[21:57:37] sphery: DjMadness: all I can say is: libs/libmyth/audiopulseutil.cpp line 165
[21:57:46] sphery: DjMadness: if you can make it better, we appreciate the patch
[21:58:05] skd5aner: sphery: true – my thought was why limit if I didn't have to, the likelyhood of me needing to use teh HD-PVR to record those channels is almost nil, but this way – those channels are there if needed
[21:58:05] sphery: DjMadness: or, if you want it to actually work, fix the pulseaudio output itself so it doesn't need to suspend Pulse
[21:58:13] sphery: i.e. so that Myth actually works with Pulse
[21:58:37] DjMadness: sphery: will see what i can do.. and if not its patch worthy for the main, someone could download it.
[21:58:43] sphery: skd5aner: and they slow down the scheduler and they make browsing the guide more complex and ...
[21:58:59] sphery: IMHO, if you don't use it, don't waste myth's time (or yours) on it :)
[21:59:22] skd5aner: I might move in that direction – I know that's the "big hammer" approach, and it might be the right one
[21:59:29] sphery: DjMadness: the plan is to eventually support Pulse--but not until Pulse can do what we need
[21:59:29] Casper0082 (Casper0082!n=Casper@70.20.159.201) has quit (Success)
[21:59:44] skd5aner: I'm happy to say that the recpriority did indeed do what I thought it would though, which was a nice learning excercise if nothing else
[21:59:56] skd5aner: :)
[22:00:19] skd5aner: sphery: one other question regarding tuner/input order
[22:00:27] DjMadness: sphery: ye ofcource, at least it "can" work atm... might be able to make a hack-patch to make it function for my needs.
[22:00:52] skd5aner: I know you, like most devs, don't really use live TV, but I tend to use it when we have guests over or just want to surf
[22:00:52] sphery: skd5aner: yeah, I stand corrected--using channel priority is fine if you happen to have redundant/useless channels on a single video source :)
[22:01:38] skd5aner: right now, my MBE has my 2 QAM tuners (with 4 virtual tuners each) and 3 Analog tuners (PVR 250 and 500
[22:01:49] skd5aner: and my HD-PVR is hooked up to my SBE/FE
[22:01:52] sphery: DjMadness: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/7525 + http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/7496
[22:02:02] DjMadness: skd5aner: using mythtv my self mainly for livetv... so i can use dvb on an old crt tv :)
[22:02:18] skd5aner: the HD-PVR was added lastm and is the tuner in the list
[22:02:52] skd5aner: everytime I start LiveTV, it wants to use the HD-PVR, and I'd like to prevent that from becoming the default tuner for live TV – how can I do that beyond reordering the tuners?
[22:02:53] Gumby (Gumby!n=gumby@unaffiliated/gumby) has quit (Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer))
[22:02:59] skd5aner: does Live TV always pick the last tuner in the list?
[22:03:40] sphery: skd5aner: guessing what the question will be, but... LiveTV /always/ chooses the lowest-numbered (best) /local/ input then falls back to non-local if not available *unless* you enable "Avoid conflicts between LiveTV and recordings" in which case it /always/ chooses the highest-numbered (worst) input
[22:03:56] sphery: skd5aner: you should /really/ do the capture card portion of http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/264034#264034
[22:04:11] sphery: skd5aner: you will /not/ lose any video source information (including channels or channel priorities or ...)
[22:04:21] kslater (kslater!n=kslater@209.195.188.38.nauticom.net) has quit ("Leaving.")
[22:04:27] DjMadness: sphery: thx, ill look at them :)
[22:04:30] sphery: skd5aner: you will only lose your capture cards, then you can recreate them, then connect inputs in the desired order
[22:04:56] sphery: skd5aner: so, by your experience with LiveTV, you've enabled, "Avoid conflicts between LiveTV and recordings"
[22:05:31] sphery: not that you completely lose the "prefer local inputs" with "Avoid conflicts..." enabled, too
[22:05:36] skd5aner: OK – that was a guess I had, that it'll pick a local tuner first (since this is the only one) AND even if it wasn't, since it's last in the list it'll be picked because I do have "avoid conflicts" enabled
[22:05:39] sphery: so, yeah, with that enabled, it always picks the last input
[22:06:04] sphery: yeah, the local tuner doesn't apply with avoid conflicts, but otherwise, exactly right
[22:06:10] skd5aner: perfect – I'll read through that and get it re-ordered a bit more properly
[22:06:39] skd5aner: sphery: I wish there were more folks/devs like you in the myth community
[22:06:53] sphery: basically, the only important info in there (once you know how to connect inputs in the proper order) is "Delete /all/ capture cards" (and /not/ "Delete all capture cards on <hostname>"
[22:07:05] sphery: heh, you mean with no life and lots of time?
[22:07:33] skd5aner: sphery: not only are you knowledgable (like a lot of the folks), but you're very unselfish and extremely helpful to everyone
[22:07:34] skd5aner: :)
[22:08:09] sphery: well, I appreciate your saying so, but I think the other devs are like that, too--they just may not spend as much time on here to help out, so you may just not notice :)
[22:08:11] skd5aner: anyway – just my way of saying thanks :)
[22:08:20] sphery: you're welcome, and I hope it helps
[22:08:31] skd5aner: yea, not trying to single anyone else out as being the opposite
[22:09:06] skd5aner: lots and lots of good folks here
[22:09:25] skd5aner: OK – two more things for you, related to the subject
[22:09:46] sphery: cool
[22:09:47] skd5aner: 1 – I think I have a bug report, but wanted to see if it's just me or if you might be able to reproduce it easily before I submit
[22:10:01] skd5aner: I can NOT get Y or C to work within Live TV
[22:10:05] skd5aner: they are bound properly
[22:10:11] sphery: great... always nice to get a sanity check before making a new ticket
[22:10:27] sphery: they're bound to what?
[22:10:35] skd5aner: and have worked prior to my upgrade to .22-fixes
[22:10:40] skd5aner: let me double check
[22:10:40] sphery: chances are you need to make a /new/ key bindings for NEXTCARD and use it
[22:10:43] sphery: the way they work changed

[22:12:50] skd5aner: Well – let me start over
[22:12:54] skd5aner: there is "TV Frontend"
[22:12:58] skd5aner: and "TV Playback"
[22:13:06] skd5aner: what is appropriate? TV Playback?
[22:13:33] skd5aner: NEXTSOURCE = Y (does nothing)
[22:13:43] skd5aner: NEXTINPUT = C (does nothing)
[22:13:48] skd5aner: both in TV Playback
[22:13:59] skd5aner: NEXTCARD is not bound
[22:14:24] sphery: bind NEXTCARD to something and test that it works
[22:14:37] skd5aner: will do – should the other's do anything though?
[22:17:16] skd5aner: also, does the frontend need to be restarted after modifying keybindings?
[22:17:25] sphery: the NEXTSOURCE/NEXTINPUT have to choose a channel and are probably affected by the bug at http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/6208 and http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/7197 (and/or http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/7411 ). The first 2 are fixed in trunk, but not 0.22-fixes, yet.

[22:20:18] skd5aner: That'd be why – mythweb didn't save the keybinding change, will do it from the frontend
[22:20:20] sphery: i.e. it could also be affected by them
[22:20:30] sphery: ah, yeah, use mythcontrols to remap
[22:20:48] sphery: mythweb also does not check for conflicts, so you can break all sorts of things using it to remap keys

[22:21:49] clever: the remote config shouldnt go thru the keyboard system
[22:22:10] clever: mplayer's design is alot more sane, where buttons map directly to functions within the program

[23:30:12] NightMonkey: Heya, all. Anyone have war stories of 0.22 and the PVR-350 (for recording and playback)? I'm thinking of taking the plunge and upgrading.
[23:30:38] Dagmar: ExElNeT: Yes. contact whoever built your binaries, or remove your "custom" commflag job
[23:31:44] ** skd5aner is amazed that people still use the PVR 350 for playback **
[23:31:58] iamlindoro: PVR-350 specific code in .22 is unchanged
[23:31:59] dmz: i just upgraded my ubuntu with a 350 and a minimyth box with a 500 and both upgraded fine
[23:32:03] ExElNeT: Dagmar: custom commflag? what custom? this is just a script which starts mythtranscode --honorcutlist. it works fine when using from a terminal
[23:32:08] Dagmar: ExElNeT: Line 2 indicates pretty clearly that you either did something weird to how it calls the commflagger, or that your commflagging program is _very_ broken
[23:32:09] ExElNeT: Dagmar: the call must be wrong somehow
[23:32:13] iamlindoro: though you should expect that the TV-out specific code for the PVR-350 in myth will likely be removed for .23

[23:34:50] Dagmar: ExElNeT: Actually read your own pastebin output
[23:34:50] brad3: one other question, completely off topic, so please ignore if you wish :)
[23:35:19] ExElNeT: Dagmar: yeah take a look at the quotes '
[23:35:20] Dagmar: ExElNeT: Line 2. It's meaning is very specific

[23:36:16] brad3: i am using QFile to open a text file and read some data out of it, and i tried to use QFile file("~/bleh.txt"); But Qfile doesn't seem to recognize the ~. Is there a way i can get it to recognize, or another function to find what the value of ~ should be?
[23:36:27] Dagmar: You might want to _get rid of the embedded newline_
[23:36:34] NightMonkey: iamlindoro, dmz: Thanks. Yeah, I know about the code-purge. However, I think that was also said for 0.22. :) I just don't have the $$ right now to go HD.
[23:36:42] Dagmar: So again, line 2 of your pastebin output says it all
[23:37:25] Dagmar: brad3: There are environment variables
[23:37:30] Dagmar: brad3: "~" is not one

[23:38:21] Dibblah: That's been annoying me for _ages_.
[23:38:24] brad3: expect to see a rocking plugin from me, sometime in 2014.  :>
[23:38:28] ExElNeT: Dagmar: the problem is not the script if it works otherwise with the exact same options. its somewhere with the call from mythtv. ... hmm the newline...
[23:38:37] Dagmar: brad3: ...although I really wish it was the OS parsing that and not the shell. You are far from the first person to fall prey to that
[23:38:39] iamlindoro: brad3: Have to keep in mind Qt is cross platform, so ~ would not be safe off of POSIX
[23:38:40] wagnerrp: NightMonkey: dont expect it to last a lot longer
[23:38:53] wagnerrp: the first kernel/driver regression, and it will probably get dropped
[23:39:02] brad3: so i should probably stay away from it?
[23:39:08] Dagmar: ExElNeT: yes, like I said... Line 2 is a dead giveaway you've got an embedded newline in there, and when you *pasted* the command the newline also showed up
[23:39:13] iamlindoro: brad3: ~ yes, but that's why homepath exists
[23:39:18] wagnerrp: its effectively unmaintained at this point
[23:39:30] Dagmar: brad3: Grab the value of $HOME and prepend it
[23:39:43] iamlindoro: brad3: QString myPath = QDir::homePath() + "/bleh.txt";
[23:39:44] NightMonkey: wagnerrp: Roger.
[23:39:48] brad3: ahh got it, read that wrong. thanks iamlindoro
[23:39:50] Dagmar: ooo even better
[23:40:20] Dagmar: Dibblah: Sweet crap that's long... Gimme a few
[23:40:30] iamlindoro: brad3: On windows will give you "C:/Documents and Settings/Brad/bleh.txt" and on Linux will give you "/home/brad/bleh.txt", etc.
[23:40:33] Dibblah: Nah. It's just showing _real_ verbosity :)
[23:40:42] ExElNeT: Dagmar: i have been editing this statement a few time before coming here... maybe phpmyadmin is doing shit
[23:40:43] Dibblah: Look at the ticket for details.
[23:41:09] iamlindoro: brad3: To be compliant with how we do it, though, you want something like:
[23:41:11] Dibblah: Simple enough change, it's probably a little incorrect – I do not know if it's properly thread safe.
[23:41:25] iamlindoro: QString myPath = QDir::homePath() + "/.mythtv/MythBrad/bleh.txt";
[23:41:29] Dagmar: ExElNeT: Considering that the line break happened at the same place it's screwing up your script call, I doubt it. Why exactly is the default invocation not enough for you?
[23:41:40] wagnerrp: NightMonkey: you should probably consider upgrading in the near future... $150 gets you a machine that will play everything short of HDPVR/bluray in software, and everything else in hardware
[23:42:04] brad3: ok, will do that. definitely want to be compliant. hope to make it in mythtv, somewhere way off into the future.

[23:42:40] iamlindoro: brad3: hopefully not settings-- for those you want to use the dB
[23:43:12] ExElNeT: Dagmar: you mean just calling transcode?
[23:43:57] brad3: basically, i'm trying to make a plugin out of the Integrate XM Radio into Myth scripts that some people wrote (http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Integrate_XM). To do that I have to use curl to interact with the XM Radio website to log in and get a cookie, so i can pass the stream off to mplayer/xine
[23:44:03] NightMonkey: wagnerrp: Ah, but then I'd also need to get an HD TV. And upgrade my sat subscription. Does $150 get a full backend/frontend machine? Is there a specific machine you have in mind?
[23:44:27] brad3: so i have to read a file to get information that curl sends back (because as far as i can tell, i can't get output of a command from myth_system, only exit code)
[23:44:32] iamlindoro: brad3: IS there a reason to use curl instead of QHttp?
[23:45:00] iamlindoro: brad3: QHttp would allow you to pull the address straight into a QBytearray and would be much, much cleaner with no external files
[23:45:01] brad3: there was before that comment.. i didn't know QHttp existed. i will go read up on it tonight.
[23:45:04] nighthawk_ is now known as AndrewNC_
[23:45:05] ** NightMonkey is presently an SD luddite with an SD sat subscription. **
[23:45:07] wagnerrp: $150 gets you a new microatx AMD/nvidia motherboard, midrange dual core processor, and 2GB of memory
[23:45:09] brad3: i will definitely check it out
[23:45:16] wagnerrp: plenty for a fe/be combo
[23:45:46] NightMonkey: wagnerrp: Wow, I've been overspec'ing what I'd need to deal with HD.
[23:45:49] wagnerrp: if you need support for a machine with no HD inputs (VGA/DVI/HDMI), youll have to get a discrete video card, tack on another $25-$30
[23:45:58] iamlindoro: brad3: cool-- AFAICT that's what you want-- there are very few reasons you would ever want to spawn external processes... usually just for grabber scripts, and that's only because you want to make a modular system that others can write scripts for
[23:46:01] brad3: on the settings front, i do have some settings, and i plan to use the db.. just haven't got around to it
[23:46:16] dustybin: iamlindoro: do you use VDPAU?
[23:46:26] iamlindoro: dustybin: sometimes, but not full time
[23:46:31] dustybin: ok
[23:46:34] wagnerrp: NightMonkey: it all depends on what you consider HD
[23:46:48] brad3: iamlindoro: speaking of that, i wanted to ask, will the internal player handle a mms://stream, or is that something i would have to write extra code for, if i wanted to not pass off to mplayer or xine?
[23:47:01] wagnerrp: ATSC/QAM stuff is decode-able by just about anything built in the last five years
[23:47:12] Dagmar: Dibblah: Can't see a thing wrong with that output, I mean other than you're trying to punt db backups to /root which might not work depending on who's running the backend
[23:47:23] NightMonkey: wagnerrp: 1080i?
[23:47:24] dustybin: does QT 4 support the ability to make icons zoom in and out nice and smoothly?
[23:47:24] wagnerrp: HDPVR and bluray content is significantly more intensive, but can now be handled with hardware decoding in nvidia cards
[23:47:25] iamlindoro: brad3: Pretty sure it won't at the moment, though occasionally there is talk about making it handle streams like that better
[23:47:33] Dibblah: Dagmar: Cool. It fits in, then!
[23:47:40] brad3: i thought so, but a guy can dream ;)
[23:47:44] wagnerrp: NightMonkey: its more a function of codec and bitrate than resolution
[23:47:54] Dibblah: You didn't even notice that the verbose output included the sql query responses? ;)
[23:48:00] iamlindoro: dustybin: Qt is not our UI toolkit, so irrelevant
[23:48:09] dustybin: ohh
[23:48:38] Dibblah: However, it makes it easier to steal stuff from qt4... ;)
[23:49:18] iamlindoro: To answer the question you should have asked, no, MythUI does no animation or zooming outside of flipbook animation
[23:49:23] iamlindoro: yet
[23:49:58] Dagmar: Dibblah: Honestly, I never look at the logs with that much verbosity.
[23:50:17] dustybin: my friend has a xbox 360, i like the ways the menus move smoothly and things zoom in and out
[23:50:42] NightMonkey: wagnerrp: Ah, yes, I see what you're getting at. For SD, I (and my SO) have been spoiled by the PVR-350's high fidelity. So, I'd look for high fidelity on the next HD-focused FE/BE, too.

[23:51:22] NightMonkey: iamlindoro: For TV?
[23:51:25] iamlindoro: yes, for TV
[23:51:38] sphery: dustybin: that's because you haven't actually tried to /use/ the menus on the XBox 360. It's slow and annoying--the UI is way behind where you are.

[23:54:53] iamlindoro: especially as there's an X driver the user can use if they really want to go on using it, they don't need myth specific code for it
[23:55:10] NightMonkey: iamlindoro: In this case, fidelity = perfect copy of source, as seen on my 32" Sony WEGA TV.
[23:55:29] iamlindoro: NightMonkey: It's *not* a perfect copy of the source, though, it's a very lossy one
[23:55:46] NightMonkey: iamlindoro: I record at very high bitrates.
[23:55:58] iamlindoro: analog output from your STB, so quality loss there, then compression artifacts when then card encodes it, then another analog conversion on the way out
[23:56:14] iamlindoro: high bitrates don't eliminate the numerous D/A/D/A conversions, or compression artifacts
[23:56:28] iamlindoro: not all the compression artifacts, anyway
[23:56:51] WattoDaToydarian: I have a playback box that is only controlled with a remote and I am looking for a solution to playing video files from a dvd-r disc. Before .22 I was using autofs and mythvideo but now mythvideo doesn't see the autofs's folder. Can anyone recommend a solution that would work well?
[23:56:54] iamlindoro: as mentioned, you can probably go on capturing with it for a while, but the output would improve significantly with a modern GPU versus the PVR-350 tv-out
[23:58:37] Dibblah: Hrm.
[23:58:42] Dagmar: There are two reasons to use a PVR-350.
[23:58:43] Dibblah: I would disagree.
[23:58:49] Dagmar: 1. You only have ONE free PCI slot.
[23:58:50] wagnerrp: WattoDaToydarian: assuming you stuck with the old method of direct file access by the frontend in mythvideo
[23:58:59] wagnerrp: it will function exactly the same as the old mythvideo
[23:59:01] Dagmar: 2. If you do any more cutting your mom will ship you off to military schoo..
[23:59:21] Dibblah: Interlaced -> deinterlaced -> scaled -> interlaced -> SVideo is _nasty_.
[23:59:35] wagnerrp: if you want to use transient media with autofs, you either have to rescan to get the new content, or you have to run in 'browse' mode
[23:59:36] Dibblah: Which is _all_ that modern cards can do.
[23:59:51] WattoDaToydarian: wagnerrp, you would think so but for some reason mythvideo won't show the autofs folder
