[00:00:21] iamlindoro: I'm certain you can access the raw firewire stream in windows, no driver needed for cable boxes
[00:00:49] iamlindoro: I have a feeling where he says "driver" he means "capture utility"
[00:02:04] tank-man: more confusion from HD content, stick with low res
[00:02:37] iamlindoro: Ick, no thanks, I quite happy with my firewire capture :)
[00:02:52] sphery: weird....
[00:04:40] sphery: since my local CBS affiliate moved frequencies/stopped transmitting analog, some parts of the stream have only EIA-708 captions, so if I hit the toggle EIA-608 captions button at the wrong time, it doesn't find any and falls back to EIA-708 captions.

[02:23:55] Lexridge: and what a good evening it is....69 degrees and no rain for a change. ;)
[02:24:01] cornell: I'm having a bit of a problem. I've a myth system that had been working more or less correctly. I'd had no keyboard problems and the only remote problem was it didn't seem to "take" the first time.
[02:24:03] cornell: :-)
[02:24:14] cornell: Sounds real good, Lexridge :-)
[02:24:59] Lexridge: yea, considering it's rained every day for the past 16 days. :(
[02:25:19] cornell: I've upgraded, via knoppmyth, to knoppmyth R5.5, and ever since I'm having problems with key repetition with both the Hauppage grey/silver remote and the wired keyboard.
[02:25:59] cornell: When I select, or hit return, and sometimes with up/down arrows, and God knows what else... multiples are interpreted.

[02:29:24] cornell: e.g. From the frontend main menu, I want to go into setup, which is under Utilities / Setup. I navigate down to Utilities / Setup and hit the return on the keyboard, being very careful to strike it once, quickly.
[02:30:04] cornell: It goes to Utilities / Setup and straight into Music, the first option therein, as if I had hit the return, and hit it again.
[02:30:17] cornell: This is happening with both my keyboard and remote.
[02:30:35] cornell: Any suggestions on what to do? Troubleshoot, diagnose, fix, whatever ?
[02:32:04] ** cornell hopes it doesn't involve going to Utilities / Setup -> Setup... he can't get there from here ;-) **
[02:32:18] CoreDump: sounds like an lirc issue
[02:32:27] Dagmar: Make sure there's only one lircd running, make sure you've got decent batteries in the remote, make sure you're not using irexec *and* native lirc support
[02:32:36] cornell: Does lirc impact keyboard as well as remote?
[02:32:42] Dagmar: Usually people get multiple presses when they
[02:32:54] Dagmar: ve run something external to myth to parse the button presses
[02:33:06] Dagmar: lirc doesn't do anything with keyboards
[02:33:25] cornell: Didn't think so... so why does keyboard do it too?
[02:33:50] Dagmar: The machine is buggered
[02:34:04] Scopeuk (Scopeuk!n=scopeukf@78-105-163-174.zone3.bethere.co.uk) has quit (Read error: 60 (Operation timed out))
[02:34:13] Dagmar: THis is assuming you're talking about a "normal" PS/2 or USB keyboard
[02:34:19] cornell: Make sure there's only one lircd running... I did ps aux | egrep lircd, I get: root 3153 0.0 0.0 2964 568 ? Ss 05:47 0:00 /usr/sbin/lircd --driver=default --device=/dev/lirc0
[02:34:49] cornell: Yup, normal ps/2 keyboard that has previously served me well
[02:35:07] Dagmar: Does it malfunction in the text console? It likely *should* be screwing up there as well
[02:35:11] cornell: So, I'm guessing I'm only running one lircd.
[02:35:17] cornell: Good point.
[02:35:29] Dagmar: Keyboards do occasionally blow out
[02:35:36] Scopeuk (Scopeuk!n=scopeukf@78-105-163-174.zone3.bethere.co.uk) has joined #mythtv-users
[02:35:44] CoreDump: well, the keyrepeat rate should be configurable somehow
[02:35:54] Dagmar: The first G15 I got was pretty fried
[02:36:02] Dagmar: It's configurable through X
[02:36:09] cornell: Seems to be working alright in console.
[02:36:37] Dagmar: ...but generally you don't have to set the key repeat rate
[02:36:41] ** CoreDump owns a G15 as well and loves it **
[02:36:44] cornell: How do I configure X? (or should I go off and google, and get back to you later?
[02:37:07] Dagmar: cornell: If you didn't try to change anything to do with the key repeat rate then ther'es not much point in chasing that
[02:37:21] Dagmar: The defaults it uses are pretty unexciting
[02:37:48] cornell: Actually, right now, there's no battery in the remote. And I'd be happy to just get one (the keyboard) working.
[02:38:11] Dagmar: So just start X with a normal (well, minimal) twm config
[02:38:19] cornell: I didn't change anything in re: repeat rate. Don't know if install / upgrade did.
[02:38:28] Dagmar: i.e., *don't* start mythfrontend. See if it malfunctions in an xterm
[02:38:43] cornell: Ok
[02:38:59] cornell: Exiting frontend
[02:39:56] cornell: Opened xterm... return seems to send only one return.
[02:41:17] Dagmar: Sounds like it's time to report a bug to the KnoppMyth people then
[02:41:19] cornell: make sure you're not using irexec *and* native lirc support... Don't know how to make certain of this. ps aux|egrep irexec yields nothing but the egrep.
[02:41:29] Dagmar: If you didn't set it up, it's not there
[02:41:35] cornell: K
[02:42:01] cornell: If I may ask another question...
[02:42:11] Dagmar: IT IS FORBIDDEN.
[02:42:16] Dagmar: Well, not really.
[02:42:38] cornell: I can watch previously recorded shows, but not live tv. Checking the log, I see:
[02:42:39] cornell: MPEGRec(/dev/video0) Warning: Audio sample rate 32000 Hz
[02:42:39] cornell: is not supported by ivtv driver, using 48000 Hz instead.
[02:43:17] Led-Hed (Led-Hed!n=Led-Hed@66-189-167-116.dhcp.trlk.ca.charter.com) has quit (Remote closed the connection)
[02:43:19] Dagmar: That would be a matter of you messing about with encoding parameters you didn't need to
[02:44:03] cornell: I'd found a reference, http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/users/36648, that talks about using ivtvctl to set the frequency. Presumably to set it to 48000 hz...
[02:44:21] cornell: mmm, I've not knowingly messed with any audio setting.
[02:44:29] Dagmar: It would be in the encoding profiles
[02:44:36] Dagmar: i.e., tuner stuff
[02:44:41] cornell: How can I check them?
[02:44:46] Dagmar: mythtv-setup
[02:44:48] cornell: Ah... as in capture card setup up?
[02:45:41] cornell: That I did. I deleted the capture cards on this slave and created a new one. Selected the PVR entry and accepted the defaults.
[02:46:03] poodyp (poodyp!n=poodyp@cpe-98-148-122-5.socal.res.rr.com) has quit ()
[02:46:20] cornell: That is... that I did do during the upgrade / install.
[02:47:05] Dagmar: Well, you can just set the sample rates to 48000 there then and that'll kill the message, but the messages itself is just informational
[02:47:27] cornell: So that has nothing to do with why it won't show live tv.
[02:47:50] Dagmar: That could be anything
[02:48:08] Dagmar: There's no functional difference between live TV and watching a recording
[02:48:22] Dagmar: The frontend is playing a recording either way
[02:48:30] cornell: Can I paste a few lines from the log, or should I pastebin (about 8 lines)?
[02:48:40] Dagmar: Anything longer than two lines should be pastebinned
[02:48:49] cornell: k
[02:49:35] cornell: Does this tell you anyting? http://cornell.pastebin.com/d6ed0290d
[02:50:11] Dagmar: It says you've probably not made any recordings
[02:50:21] Dagmar: Time to check that the tuner card is even working
[02:50:54] Dagmar: Firmware might be missing or incorrect
[02:51:16] cornell: Well, no recordings since the upgrade, but I've recordings from before. (which I can watch)
[02:51:31] Dagmar: Try and make a recording now. I'm betting it won't work
[02:51:36] cornell: Could it be physical cable is not delivering.
[02:51:40] Dagmar: Nope
[02:51:54] cornell: I hadn't tried, I assumed that if I can't watch live tv, I can't record.
[02:51:59] Dagmar: ...not unless you don't actually have a PVR-150/500/250/350
[02:52:19] cornell: Unless the gremlins stole it, I have a PVR350.
[02:52:22] Dagmar: They'll record static just fine
[02:52:36] Dagmar: So check the syslog/dmesg to make sure the thing is initializing properly
[02:52:42] cornell: Ok, so no cable signal, I'd still be able to record static.
[02:53:05] cornell: Ouch. Hints on what to look for in syslog? Any PVR text?
[02:53:14] Dagmar: Lines that say "ivtv"
[02:53:26] Dagmar: Just dmesg | grep -i ivtv
[02:54:38] jdblack: yeah. I really need to figure out something for a remote control
[02:55:09] Dagmar: Check Craigslist for a submissive girlfriend.

[02:59:55] cornell: Oh, one question... I run mythfilldatabase on the master (which is generally working), do I need to also run it on the slave? I didn't, felt it would be redundant.

[18:54:54] Dibblah: (logs of some type, sample file)
[18:54:58] xris: on the other hand, the pink squares come from the encoders (libxvid?) and have nothing to do with nuvexport
[18:55:46] tank-man: lol, im reminded of a slashdot story yesterday, should developers be responsible for their code
[18:56:00] tank-man: always someone elses fault :)
[18:57:15] xris: tank-man: but in this case, it's extremely unlikely to be nuvexport.
[18:57:43] iamlindoro: Is it me, or does Justin Timberlake appear on Saturday Night Live live once every three weeks?
[18:57:50] iamlindoro: er Live like
[18:58:02] xris: since it works fine for h.264 (which I use), and is broken in xvid/divx in three different encoders that all rely on the same encoding engine.

[23:55:53] Dagmar: Overscan issues
[23:56:14] |chiz|: from what I can tell probably
[23:56:36] Dagmar: Broadcasters like to still include overscan padding even in digital broadcasts, which is hella annoying (because it should be unnecessary)
[23:57:03] |chiz|: maybe I just need to increase my overscan and then to get rid of it in recordings just crop it out
[23:57:22] Dagmar: If you're using a CRT, dig around in the theme documentation on the wiki and you'll find a few cheatsheets that can be loaded into MythGallery to help calibrate your output to shove the overscan areas off the edges of your screen
[23:57:42] |chiz|: ok cool
[23:57:51] Dagmar: Don't bother cropping it out... once you've got it being handled properly during playback it'll cease to be an issue
[23:58:15] Dagmar: The themes are *supposed* to respect overscan areas, which is why I put those cheatsheets up
[23:59:23] |chiz|: right I just meant that if I covert something to avi I'd crop it out then so I wouldn't notice if I was watching on a computer
