[03:41:06] com_h1: Hi djcrash1981, I'm only a newbie to mythtv but I had a similar issue with mine and it was related to my graphics card not working correctly, it was a ATI, I disabled the ATI and went onto the onboard basic graphics, and all good, haven't worked out the ATI issue yet
[03:41:42] djcrash1981: mmmmmmmmm
[03:41:48] djcrash1981: that's a shame
[03:42:04] djcrash1981: because my onboard card is an ATI :S
[03:42:49] mzb: forget ATI
[03:43:05] mzb: you will (apparently) have nothing but problems
[03:43:09] com_h1: I'm sure ATI can work, but I found nVidia is much easier with linux
[03:44:34] Dagmar: by a factor of twelve jillion

[03:44:45] mzb: com_h1: don't bother reporting errors at the frontend (re tuner) ... it's fairly irrelevant.
[03:44:46] Dagmar: ...and I might be understating the case.
[03:45:03] mzb: more meaningful to try the mythtv-setup and report errors from there (if any)

[03:47:00] com_h1: msb: is it possible for me to do a scan at terminal and then save the channels.conf so that myth can use them, If I can't do a scan at the GUI?
[03:47:02] djcrash1981: sorry i'm from mexico and my english is still a little bit wrong some times :S :P
[03:48:20] mzb: in theory yes, but whether the channels.conf is correct format is another. Much better to run mythtv-setup as it's designed and work out problems from there

[04:19:02] RyeBrye: hasn't been said yet
[04:19:09] RyeBrye: the later shows are better than the first
[04:19:18] abqjp: So, go ahead and watch them?
[04:20:31] iamlindoro: The show gets progressively better, and ultimately becomes great
[04:20:46] iamlindoro: definitely worth the investment fo getting through the first four or five episodes
[04:21:17] abqjp: Okay. Just wondering if it ended in a cliff hanger, or if it concludes okay if it does get canceled.
[04:21:36] RyeBrye: hm. neither really
[04:21:46] iamlindoro: Don't think you'll be disappointed (although admittedly I am halfway through the finale right now)
[04:22:04] iamlindoro: but I've heard it concludes on an okay note while leaving it wide open for more
[04:22:11] RyeBrye: I'm wondering how they will find a new cast, after they detonate the nuke and kill off every doll and handler...

[04:25:36] RyeBrye: Yeah, renewing it would help DVD sales
[04:25:40] iamlindoro: regrettably the ratings having been in the turlitt
[04:25:57] iamlindoro: RyeBrye, I think it's the other way around
[04:26:06] iamlindoro: TONS of people watched firefly for the first time on DVD
[04:26:31] iamlindoro: Likewise with dollhouse-- get the first season out on DVD (June I believe) then bring it back in the fall and I think it would see more viewers
[04:26:45] RyeBrye: Well, both – but if the show is canceled, less people will want to start watch it since it is a dead-end show
[04:27:31] iamlindoro: Didn't stop folks watching Firefly on DVD
[04:29:19] abqjp: I have not watched Life on Mars (USA version) yet. I saw the BBC version, and it was okay, but I HATED the way it ended.
[04:30:07] iamlindoro: I've seen both versions, and if you hated the ending of the BBC version, the US version's anding will make you puke
[04:30:14] iamlindoro: which is a shame because the show itself was great
[04:30:31] abqjp: So, skip the last episode?
[04:30:40] iamlindoro: skip the last 10 minutes of the last episode
[04:30:51] abqjp: KO. Thanks
[04:30:51] iamlindoro: Could very easily have ended at minute 40
[04:32:14] iamlindoro: T:TSCC had dismal first season ratings but got a second season, so I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping Dollhouse will get same
[04:32:29] abqjp: My have to send my HD-PVR "rev c1" to hauppauge. It is overheating on me when my office gets over 80.
[04:33:09] abqjp: The strike season just plain sucked for TV in general.
[04:33:42] iamlindoro: and probably killed more than a handful of shows, Pushing Daisies in particular
[04:34:00] abqjp: Likely.

[05:15:59] Dagmar: Messing with markers while the recording is changing is not safe as far as I know
[05:16:07] gizmobay: Anyone know of a serial irblaster has enough power to go more than a few cm?
[05:16:12] iamlindoro: Setting the markers is fine while the recording is going on

[20:17:45] sphery: here
[20:17:56] sphery: thanks for asking here first, too :)
[20:18:05] theophile: np :)
[20:18:48] sphery: #mythtv is for discussing code/patches/proposals for development of Myth, not "state of development" or "how to use newly developed features"

[20:19:12] theophile: I've got r20509 (yesterday) and am experiencing a nearly invisible EPG when using VDPAU
[20:19:36] sphery: though this is the right place to ask, I can't help as I don't use VDPAU...
[20:19:48] sphery: does it do the same when using a different decoder/renderer?
[20:20:18] theophile: No, which is why I'm wondering if it has to to with the way the EPG is drawn, or the VDPAU limitation to one stream at a time
[20:20:29] theophile: If I use ffmpeg and xv-blit, EPG renders fine
[20:20:49] wagnerrp_: i thought the EPG was run using opengl

[20:21:56] theophile: I built 0.22 for the first time yesterday
[20:21:59] sphery: Oh...
[20:22:30] sphery: I was going to say I don't remember much in the way of recent changes to VDPAU stuff (or OpenGL stuff)--at least nothing that would affect the EPG
[20:22:47] sphery: However there was a major mythui-ification of the EPG just recently...
[20:22:54] theophile: I was thinking of looking through the changelog for relevant commits and grabbing a revision before them, but I figured it would be a wild stab in the dark
[20:23:52] theophile: hmm
[20:23:56] sphery: I'd recommend hanging out here and seeing if you can find someone else using trunk (and VDPAU) and see if they have a similar symptom. If you don't find anyone here, you can always send a message to the mythtv-users mailing list (where a /lot/ more eyes will see it)
[20:24:26] sphery: I know there are a few people using trunk for their production systems here--some of whom have played around with VDPAU, too
[20:24:35] theophile: I sent a message to the ML last night/this morning
[20:24:47] theophile: I have historically not had good luck with that, for some reason
[20:24:58] theophile: I tend to have very uncommon problems, lol
[20:25:26] sphery: I had several hundred unread messages in -users today when I got caught up, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to things I knew I couldn't help with...  :)

[22:44:44] sphery: android6011_: you'd have better luck using it as an NFS/CIFS/... storage /for/ a backend

[22:45:37] android6011_: sphery: getting it into?
[22:45:39] android6011_: http://openfiler.com/

[22:47:16] sphery: meaning, what does openfiler bring to the table for a Myth box?
[22:47:30] android6011_: I like the web based management and i want it to be primary a nas and double as a mytht backend
[22:47:46] android6011_: and the fact its light weight really helps

[22:50:32] sphery: well, if it's relatively standard, it shouldn't bee too hard to get MythTV running--just may have to go outside of distro's package management for some (or, possibly, a lot of the) dependencies as well as Myth
[22:51:20] android6011_: ya and im not looking to get that hands on with the machine, I just want a quick throw together type of thing
[22:56:14] sphery: for quick, throw-together MythTV, I /highly/ recommend either MythBuntu or MythDora or one of the other Myth distros (whose names I can't all remember)
