[04:40:42] nayfly: I just get a blank box
[04:41:14] wagnerrp: try forcing the qt painter, its probably using the opengl painter, and you dont have your graphics drivers configured properly

[04:41:48] nayfly: wagnerrp: interesting, so I'm guessing installing the ATI drivers would fix eh

[04:47:25] wagnerrp: now its probably some very minor amount of coding necessary

[07:37:05] Shadow__X: i dont think its fixed yet but there is an issue with using the card after a reboot
[07:37:24] Shadow__X: you tune it to a channel and audio on analog goes nuts
[07:37:29] Shadow__X: you stop live tv
[07:37:34] Shadow__X: and reopen it
[07:37:37] Shadow__X: and it works fine
[07:37:58] lavermil: huh
[07:38:15] Shadow__X: uh
[07:38:20] lavermil: my mythtv screen doesn't work for the frontend yet.
[07:38:25] Shadow__X: ok
[07:38:29] Shadow__X: nvm
[07:38:34] lavermil: it is all broken at the moment.
[07:38:41] Shadow__X: k
[07:38:55] lavermil: last night I had it working but then I thought I zapped my video card...and reloaded from scratch. :(
[07:39:32] lavermil: I think to solve my s-video issue I can just get a dvi to s-video
[07:39:43] Pontiac: Welp; looks like I'm going to have to invent a way to take the XML and drop it into the database, cuz MythBuntu isn't touching the database.
[07:40:01] lavermil: or vga to rca
[07:40:25] Pontiac: all with MASSIVE video quality loss. :/
[07:40:49] Pontiac: Well, DVI2SVIDEO; not so bad... VGA to a single RCA? {shiver}

[07:42:06] lavermil: Pontiac: :( thx for that bit of info.
[07:42:29] Pontiac: I know how ya feel.
[07:43:18] Pontiac: But then again, going to analog CRT/Projection, you're already looking at significant quality loss, so then again, going VGA 2 RCA may not be THAT big of a deal.
[07:43:37] Pontiac: Depends on how good of a projection screen ya got.
[07:43:57] Pontiac: I know with my 32" TV, I can hardly read the text at 800x600 via SVIDEO.
[07:44:05] wagnerrp: a DVI-to-svideo scan converter would be considerably more expensive than just a new video card
[07:44:33] wagnerrp: also, svideo only runs at 480 lines
[07:44:42] wagnerrp: and something well under 800 columns
[07:44:52] Pontiac: *MY* thoughts are to just drop the latest and go with an older OS and see what kinda luck you get.
[07:46:24] lavermil: I might have to go that route

[07:49:17] lavermil: Pontiac: really a pvr + xmame + netflix (mid 2009 per netflix)
[07:51:50] Pontiac: Well, with my OS, I've not done any of that, however, what I would suggest is maybe getting yourself setup with (I said it before, sorry to repeat so often) the older OS and familiarize yourself with it.
[07:51:54] Shadow__X: by netflix do you mean stream netflix
[07:52:03] lavermil: Pontiac: netflix allows boxee to get it direct for instant on linux. wtf
[07:52:06] Pontiac: I'm sure that xmame is going to work.
[07:52:22] lavermil: instant download
[07:56:56] Pontiac: I wouldn't call it `instant` download.
[07:57:11] Pontiac: But I get your drift.
[07:57:25] Shadow__X: how do i tar using --lzma

[07:59:00] Criggie: hey all – mythtv's internal player seems to be unable to play audio from a h264 Matroska file, but xine and mplayer play the audio fine.
[07:59:22] Criggie: anyone know anything about playback of matroska files ?

[08:16:28] nayfly: any ideas?
[08:16:41] Criggie: at0m|c: it plays perfectly in mplayer and xine, (sound and video) but mythtv player has no sound

[08:19:05] Criggie: anykey__: not sure – file just says "Helpers.mkv: Matroska data

[08:20:19] Criggie: anykey__: you think converting it to an AVI would work?
[08:21:12] nayfly: lavermil: Well, like I said I've had myth running on this computer before
[08:21:31] at0m|c: Criggie: if mplayer plays it fine, then why not set it up like that in mythtv > settings > file types ? saves lots of converting time, and will allow you to play all .mkv's in mythtv in the future

[08:22:50] Shadow__X: and start artifacting all by itself
[08:23:11] lavermil: nayfly: let me guess you just upgraded to teh 9.4 driver right?
[08:23:13] nayfly: it's more than capable of running mythtv...

[08:24:20] nayfly: I'll check :)

[08:25:14] nayfly: indeed
[08:25:17] lavermil: 9.3 supports older cards
[08:25:30] lavermil: 9.3 will not run on ubuntu 9.4
[08:25:40] lavermil: rather 9.04 ubuntu
[08:25:43] lavermil: bah
[08:26:05] nayfly: Yeh, i ran into that issue
[08:26:05] lavermil: 9.4 is running too current of xorg and libs are too new
[08:26:14] nayfly: which is why i reverted back to 8
[08:26:19] lavermil: so you have to use the open source driver
[08:26:20] nayfly: (ubuntu that is)
[08:26:49] nayfly: hmm
[08:26:55] lavermil: 9.4 is not backward compatible to ubuntu 8.x either since you won't have current enough libs/etc.
[08:27:05] Shadow__X: they dropped support for x19xx already
[08:27:06] Shadow__X: ?
[08:27:09] nayfly: so install 9.3?
[08:27:22] lavermil: Shadow__X: not sure, I don't recall
[08:27:35] nayfly: it's really not that old!

[08:27:43] nayfly: I'd be surprised
[08:28:02] lavermil: nayfly: I would check what they say they support and don't
[08:28:40] nayfly: 9.3 supports X1900 series

[08:28:50] lavermil: what about 9.4?
[08:28:54] nayfly: with my fingers crossed

[08:29:07] Shadow__X: hmm
[08:29:11] Shadow__X: i need to buy a new gpu
[08:29:16] nayfly: well, just using the ATI site, when i entered my model and it took me to 9.3
[08:29:22] lavermil: hehe, bastards at amd

[13:36:00] |chiz|: just watching movies
[13:41:27] GreyFoxx: |chiz|: I use to use 512 in my combo backend (2 prv250s) + frontend box with no troubles.

[13:43:47] sid3windr: my frontends have 1G and MBE 2G
[13:46:15] GreyFoxx: main reason I have 2 in that FE was because runs 2 instances of mythfrontend feeding two different devices
[13:46:26] gbee: 1Gb is cheap enough that these days I'd recommend it as the minimum for any machine, 2Gb for a frontend wouldn't hurt

[21:40:01] Shadow__X: but then sided for a macbook
[21:40:09] meshe: but with an HDD it's still rated a 9 hours of battery life
[21:40:17] Shadow__X: because i can actually use the laptop for more than just browsing pages
[21:40:35] gbee: AA1 fits a nearly fullsize keyboard into an 8.9" frame FWIW
[21:40:48] meshe: i'm looking for one specifically for use on very packed busses and trains for my commute
[21:41:10] meshe: otherwise, i'd probably go macbook
[21:41:27] gbee: Shadow__X: that's what I have a laptop or desktop for
[21:41:38] Shadow__X: meshe, honestly if i could live with the underpowered cpu and not comfortable tracpad and keyboard i would get it
[21:41:43] Shadow__X: way cheaper than a macbook
[21:41:45] shadash: check this control out http://www.itvmedia.de/htpc-itvcontrol.htm
[21:42:27] meshe: iamlindoro: i'd love to wait for an Ion, but my time is limited, not having something I can code on while commuting 2.5 hours/day is driving me nuts
[21:42:27] iamlindoro: Someone wrote that web page in their made up language
[21:43:13] shadash: yea but the control is nice
[21:43:23] iamlindoro: meshe: Guess they're cheap enough that buying another in a year wouldn' tbe too bad a hit
[21:43:29] CyberKnet: THey don't show a shot with the depth visible.
[21:43:32] iamlindoro: shadash: Similar to the Sky remote IIRC
[21:43:44] shadash: link?
[21:43:47] meshe: yeah, and it would probably be new enough to flip for a decent $
[21:43:52] iamlindoro: https://clarahost.clara.net/www.multimediasys . . . vigator2.jpg
[21:44:36] meshe: what i really want is a <= 10" macbook
[21:44:43] shadash: ohhh that ones even better
[21:44:46] meshe: but we can dream can't we
[21:44:54] kormoc: he 13.3 is awesome for myself
[21:45:25] Shadow__X: i def think for me a macbook is great i also like more resolution
[21:45:32] Shadow__X: 1024x600 eh
[21:45:39] ** CyberKnet would still like a Harmony 890. **
[21:45:39] Shadow__X: need moar
[21:46:33] meshe: yeah, i'll probably throw netbook remix on it and make heavy use of screen and vim split windows
[21:46:59] Shadow__X: yeah
[21:48:34] meshe: anyway, their cheap and popular, if I don't like it i'll flip it, I paid more for my Palm T|X (what a mistake that was)
[21:50:41] gbee: Shadow__X: res, size etc makes sense when you consider the usage it was designed for, it's not intended to replace a desktop or laptop for most people
[21:52:22] Shadow__X: right

[22:03:59] J-e-f-f-A: kormoc: Well, it works fine on on Win7 ... Now to try it on my frontend again. (Hopefully whatever 'mode' it got in is now reset back to 'normal'...)  ;-)
[22:05:08] meshe: the 700m is a 12" screen, and the fonts can be a bit small on that at 1280x800

[22:33:46] RyeBrye: OSX is really low maintenance. Unless you get paid organ-grinding-monkey wages, any "Apple Tax" tends to be paid off quite quickly imho
[22:35:05] gbee: I find linux to be low maintenance, but I guess it all depends how you use it – tinkerers are always going to find they spend a lot of time playing with their OS
