[00:01:04] wagnerrp: weight: 170lbs
[00:01:05] wagnerrp: !!!
[00:01:22] wagnerrp: i wonder if that is with or without drives
[00:02:12] AndyCap: must be with drives?
[00:03:02] AndyCap: unless they made it from uranium or something.
[00:03:57] kormoc: cause 48 drives are so heavy?
[00:05:17] Captain_Murdoch: max normally means max
[00:05:20] Captain_Murdoch: :)
[00:06:51] AndyCap: drives would be 71 lbs
[00:07:10] AndyCap: if they're seagate barracuda es.2 1TB.
[00:08:23] kormoc: my point still stands, when your talking bout 4% of the weight, you can't really assume they'd be included or not :P
[00:08:48] wagnerrp: well thats more like 40% of the weight
[00:09:22] kormoc: oh crap
[00:09:24] AndyCap: it's not like there's room for much more weight within the confines of 4U rackspace
[00:09:31] kormoc: I read it as 1701 lbs, not 170...
[00:09:37] AndyCap: haha
[00:09:53] wagnerrp: could you make something 4U sized weighing 1701 lbs?
[00:10:00] wagnerrp: maybe solid depleted uranium
[00:10:05] ** Captain_Murdoch imagines one of his 51U racks full of 1701 LB 4U storage servers. **
[00:10:08] AndyCap: wagnerrp: I'd think so, but not with 48 drives
[00:10:45] kormoc: meh, I didn't realize it was 4u, was thinking it might be talking bout a rack or what not
[00:11:05] wagnerrp: 57.5 kcc
[00:12:05] wagnerrp: thats ~13g/cc
[00:12:13] wagnerrp: lead is 11.34 g/cc
[00:12:17] AndyCap: so about 1098 kg in uranium. :)
[00:12:42] wagnerrp: uranium is 19, so you could definately manage that
[00:12:53] mzb_d800: does anyone have a (nice) way of determining the actual length of .nuv ?
[00:12:53] AndyCap: Not sure the floor could though
[00:13:08] mzb_d800: (not from the db)
[00:13:23] kormoc: mzb_d800, mplayer + nuv patches + --identify ?
[00:13:24] wagnerrp: well your floor would have to be several inches of steel, as opposed to the traditional raised
[00:13:24] xris: mzb_d800: nuvinfo?
[00:13:43] mzb_d800: nuvinfo is from db, right?
[00:13:58] wagnerrp: thats only 10.3T, not too bad
[00:14:09] AndyCap: I'm sure you could make raised flooring to match. You'd just need to replace the sucker with an electromagnet from the junkyard
[00:16:33] mzb_d800: kormoc: where can I find those patches?
[00:17:34] mzb_d800: my current mplayer version is dev-SVN-r26940

[00:31:22] squish102: having just set up a new mythbuntu box, top is sowing a constant 30% wait on IO. top shows nothing (2% kjournald). how do i figure out what is using all this IO?
[00:32:12] mzb_d800: as far as I can tell, nuv patch(es) have already been applied to mplayer (circa 2003) ... which patches are you referring to kormoc?
[00:32:33] wagnerrp: check your mythtv logs
[00:32:57] wagnerrp: i recently had my mysql server stop midway through an SD update
[00:33:11] kormoc: mzb_d800, when I was using nuv a few years ago, Gentoo shipped mythtv-specific nuv patches for mplayer
[00:33:14] wagnerrp: and the script just kept reporting failure on mysql several dozen times a second
[00:33:26] squish102: wagnerrp THANKS
[00:33:30] squish102: that was it!!!
[00:33:31] wagnerrp: flooded my log files
[00:33:41] mzb_d800: I don't think that applies now. mplayer supports nuv afaik, but the identify command is unreliable
[00:34:04] kormoc: mzb_d800, at the time, they were for myth's nuv support, as myth has custom nuv changes
[00:34:14] mzb_d800: hmm
[00:35:06] mzb_d800: Wed Apr 9 12:00:00 2003 Axel Thimm
[00:35:06] mzb_d800: - Apply patch from Matt Zimmerman for mythtv nuv format.
[00:35:14] kormoc: fair 'nuff
[00:38:51] Lexridge: I just got off the phone with a friend who is installing mythtv for the first time. why is it one has to run mythfilldatabase before the tuner will actually tune in anything? He was getting a black screen before doing this.
[00:39:41] EvilGuru_ (EvilGuru_!n=freddie@dyn1075-2.hor.ic.ac.uk) has quit ()
[00:39:43] JonBaugh: black screen doing what?
[00:39:48] Lexridge: I had the same problem before signing up with schedules direct.
[00:40:01] JonBaugh: HD/SD?
[00:40:05] Lexridge: black screen for a few minutes, then returning to main frontend menu.
[00:40:08] Lexridge: SD
[00:40:29] JonBaugh: did he run the channel scan during setup?
[00:40:32] Lexridge: yes
[00:40:46] JonBaugh: weird
[00:40:54] Lexridge: It found all his cable channels just fine....yea, weird is right!
[00:41:32] Lexridge: but then again, I had the same exact problem when setting my mythtv up for the first time. Perhaps it has something to do with the HVR1600 card, which we both have.
[00:41:46] JonBaugh: I'm definately not an expert... but I haven't seen that
[00:42:11] JonBaugh: I've got a couple of PVR-500's and I can't recall that
[00:42:28] Lexridge: I've reinstalled my backend server 4 times, and had to do the schedules direct update every time before I could see video.
[00:42:58] Lexridge: Perhaps there is a step I am bypassing or something.
[00:43:15] JonBaugh: sounds like the channel changer is dependent on the DB to know where to tune
[00:43:22] Lexridge: yea, agreed
[00:43:26] kormoc: it is
[00:43:36] kormoc: the database has the channel numbers
[00:43:45] kormoc: and the channel numbers match up to the frequencies
[00:43:46] Lexridge: one would think the channel scan would take care of that.
[00:43:57] JonBaugh: which isn't really a problem I guess, since myth only really works if the DB has info
[00:43:59] wagnerrp: channel scan should take care of that
[00:44:11] Lexridge: humm, that is strange then
[00:44:23] wagnerrp: always has for me, although i dont know if ive ever actually used mythtv sans scheduling data
[00:44:42] JonBaugh: is there much of a point without?
[00:44:56] Lexridge: My friend wanted to do just that. But I think I've talked him into subscribing to SD.
[00:44:57] wagnerrp: not as far as im concerned
[00:45:17] Lexridge: he's working on the 7 day trial ATM.
[00:45:21] JonBaugh: well, yeah, it's what, $20 a year?
[00:45:26] Lexridge: yea, a bargain!
[00:45:38] JonBaugh: I was sold in the first 30 minutes of my 7 day trial?
[00:45:38] Lexridge: cheaper than TiVO!!!
[00:45:38] wagnerrp: yeah, i was even happy paying at the old $60/yr
[00:46:14] JonBaugh: I did miss the free datadirect
[00:46:31] Lexridge: I actually paid $5 three times before subscribing for a whole year...DOH!! Mainly just still tweaking on things and didn't want to commit until everything was perfect.
[00:46:39] JonBaugh: but I understood they were only trying to pay for hardware and bandwidth
[00:46:55] Lexridge: and the fees laid out to Tribune Media Corp.
[00:47:17] JonBaugh: perfect?!? I love myth. but part of the fun is that it's never perfect!
[00:47:24] kormoc: JonBaugh, it's not the same group
[00:47:33] JonBaugh: yeah I know
[00:47:50] Lexridge: ah, but for each his own. I have my setup exactly the way I want it. Sure I still tweak on it, but I love a working system :)
[00:48:07] JonBaugh: datadirect cancelled, so Isaac and whomever went out on their own, right?
[00:49:23] Lexridge: or something like that.
[00:49:28] JonBaugh: Lex – true, but I've spent most of my day re-organizing mine to make it "better"
[00:49:38] Lexridge: chris peterson plays a large part in all that as well.
[00:50:03] kormoc: xris is the CFO
[00:50:11] Lexridge: there ya have it :)
[00:50:18] kormoc: Isaac is on the board
[00:50:24] kormoc: as are a few others
[00:50:45] JonBaugh: well much thanks to those who set it up... best $20 I spent this year
[00:50:53] mzb_d800: hmm: # Latest mplayer does not output frame count
[00:50:57] Lexridge: how many subscribers do they have now?

[00:51:21] Lexridge: I hope some of the $$ goes to to myth development
[00:51:56] Lexridge: I'd pay $5 more to ensure it did go to the developers.
[00:52:09] Lexridge: or even more, honestly
[00:52:15] kormoc: It's a non=profit and the extra money is currently going into reserves and expanding backend architecture
[00:52:28] JonBaugh: speaking of... how does one find what it is that needs to be worked on?
[00:52:31] Lexridge: that is good too
[00:52:37] JonBaugh: (I know, noob question)
[00:52:45] Lexridge: look at the wiki
[00:52:57] wagnerrp: look at trac, look at the open tickets
[00:52:58] kormoc: there are plans for more community support and what not when things are stabilized down
[00:53:02] JonBaugh: but I'm a decent developer and new to open source, but would love to contribute
[00:53:35] wagnerrp: besides that, its a lot of talk on #mythtv and mythtv-dev about what needs to be worked on

[00:58:44] wagnerrp: network-attached dual ATSC/QAM tuner
[00:59:02] JonBaugh: yeah
[00:59:30] wagnerrp: it supports multirec if you just leave out the PID filter
[00:59:45] JonBaugh: does that catch your basic HD channels off of cable?
[00:59:50] wagnerrp: since the filter gets reset on a channel change anyway
[01:00:02] wagnerrp: JonBaugh: it will catch anything the cableco does not encrypt
[01:00:07] JonBaugh: nice
[01:00:08] wagnerrp: just like any other QAM tuner
[01:00:25] wagnerrp: however in my area, that means it picks up only broadcast channels
[01:00:26] JonBaugh: so no HBOHD, but everything I can currently get over firewire
[01:00:37] wagnerrp: but it does mean i dont need an antenna
[01:01:04] JonBaugh: anything that's not 5C encrtpted?
[01:01:29] wagnerrp: 5C is a handshaking and encryption mechanism used by firewire
[01:01:38] wagnerrp: not sure off hand what QAM uses
[01:01:48] JonBaugh: that's where I've been confuse

[01:38:19] mzb_d800: (or calculated *somehow*)
[01:39:33] mzb_d800: ... this implies to me that it's not using a seektable, right?
[01:40:22] Captain_Murdoch: mythtv reads the seektable in the .nuv file and uses that and the keyframe spacing to get the total length of the recording.
[01:40:36] Captain_Murdoch: the seektable is also stored in the DB during recording.
[01:44:22] mzb_d800: thanks Captain_Murdoch, I simply want to calculate the length of the video

[03:59:23] mattwj2002: computer turners that is
[03:59:42] mattwj2002: who do you have for cable ? Comcast?
[03:59:43] Lexridge: one computer hd tuner, one terrestial HD tuner.
[03:59:52] JonBaugh: what's the best way to remove the commercials from a show that's already flagged
[03:59:55] Lexridge: no, it suddenlink
[04:00:03] mattwj2002: oh okay
[04:00:07] Lexridge: no, I have suddenlink
[04:00:12] Lexridge: and DISH
[04:00:28] mattwj2002: I noticed Comcast some good channels on HD
[04:00:30] Lexridge: no HD except for DISH hdmi and component
[04:00:51] mattwj2002: TBS. ESPN for example
[04:00:53] mattwj2002: oh okay
[04:01:02] JonBaugh: everything I've tried wants to transcode it as well
[04:01:02] Lexridge: I spend about 2 hrs on my roof today aligning my antenna, and still no off air HD
[04:01:26] mattwj2002: that sucks :(
[04:01:30] Lexridge: installed boosters, the whole works....it sucks
[04:01:32] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: Lossless transcode.
[04:01:43] mattwj2002: are you way out in the country?
[04:01:51] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: (Assuming MPEG2 recordings... .that is... )
[04:01:58] JonBaugh: keeps seg faulting
[04:02:07] Lexridge: I live in Jane Lew, WV. That is pretty much BFE
[04:02:31] JonBaugh: (and yes mpeg2)
[04:02:34] mattwj2002: BPE?
[04:02:45] Lexridge: Bum Fucked Egypt
[04:02:47] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: I just leave them there, as it's not 100% perfect... But then again, I'm runnin 3TB of disk space... ;-)
[04:02:58] JonBaugh: I've got 2.25
[04:02:59] Lexridge: it's a technical term lol
[04:03:01] JonBaugh: :)
[04:03:08] JonBaugh: and I'm running out
[04:03:11] mattwj2002: oh okay
[04:03:29] mattwj2002: only 1.5 TB
[04:03:31] mattwj2002: :(
[04:04:03] Lexridge: mattwj2002: I actually work for the CBS/Fox affiliate in the our market. But, our HD transmissions are extremely low power at the moment.
[04:04:17] Lexridge: like 100 watts
[04:04:26] mattwj2002: yeah I heard that is the case until the switch over right?
[04:04:37] mattwj2002: by the way that is pretty cool
[04:04:38] mattwj2002: :D
[04:04:45] Lexridge: all the high-powered shit has been installed, but is not yet turned on.
[04:04:47] JonBaugh: I'm looking to remove those that I'm satisfied with the flaggin on
[04:04:53] JonBaugh: as a user job
[04:05:07] mattwj2002: why is that because they are still using power for analog?
[04:05:59] Lexridge: we are at 100kw for our channel 5 analog. The digital replacement will only 10k watts. and the fox station, channel 10, will be at 30k watts.
[04:06:49] Lexridge: I have a very tall hill to the north of my house, which is the direction most of the HD signals come from. :(
[04:06:49] mattwj2002: why don't they run it at the same wattage as analog?
[04:07:05] mattwj2002: bulldozer!
[04:07:07] mattwj2002: :D
[04:07:08] Lexridge: digital does not need as much for greater coverage.
[04:07:44] mattwj2002: so the range should be the same after the change over?
[04:07:58] Lexridge: the digital survey frm the FCC reports that we will gain 200,000 viewers off air from our current configuration.
[04:08:07] mattwj2002: :(
[04:08:19] Lexridge: I have my doubts
[04:09:08] Lexridge: the thing about digitial, is you experience the "cliff effect". You either get it, or you don't.
[04:09:17] mattwj2002: yeah that doesn't seem to make since
[04:09:36] Lexridge: well, the FCC has their agenda, we have ours.

[04:12:42] Lexridge: note that is 15 miles further away from the originating signal than I am.
[04:13:06] Lexridge: and I have a high power rooftop antenna
[04:14:22] mattwj2002: crazy
[04:14:23] mattwj2002: :S

[04:21:11] Lexridge: I believe the 1250 is suppose to work under mythtv, but I do not have one.
[04:22:02] Lexridge: what does your dmesg say? Is the card recognized?
[04:22:22] pneves: Yes I do see the card in there.
[04:22:40] pneves: I think I've probably done something wrong configuring myth.
[04:23:06] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: At the moment not much... I've got a HDHomerun for ATSC OTA HD, but most of my stuff is currently SD from Dish Network receivers.
[04:23:09] pneves: What do I have to do to get it to read off the card.
[04:23:35] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: well that 3TB should go pretty far then :)
[04:23:42] pneves: ??
[04:24:08] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: mine 2.25 is almost all HD, which unfortunately doesn't go too far
[04:24:31] JonBaugh: J
[04:24:51] JonBaugh: I figure I should be able to save almost 30% of my space if I can get rid of commercials
[04:25:06] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: Yeah, I can see your point there. ;-)
[04:26:06] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: almost 7 GB / hour ;(
[04:26:37] pneves: When I set it scan the channels it doesn't show anything.
[04:26:43] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: Yep.  ;-) I remember from '24' last year... and Terminator this year... ;-)
[04:27:03] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: ditto...
[04:27:23] wagnerrp: ive got a 1250, no issues with it
[04:27:54] wagnerrp: just make sure the proper kernel modules are built and loaded
[04:28:09] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: Add to that... we've made this a two household deal .... with differing tastes and an HDtv in both...
[04:30:24] mattwj2002: I think I am going to get a WinTV PVR-350 for Christmas
[04:30:25] mattwj2002: :D
[04:30:32] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: So far I've only got LCD monitors on Myth frontends for HD... Well, only 1 actually... a 21.6" in the bedroom, a 19" 4:3 in my son's room, and a 37" 4:3 in the living room (for now)
[04:31:02] J-e-f-f-A: mattwj2002: I gave myself one of those about 4 years ago... ;-) (Not even using it for the last 2 though...)
[04:32:08] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: our setup is pretty sweet... 27" crt to the (dedicated) secondary backend). 42" LCD at one house 52" LCD at the other and 24" lcd tv's in both of the bedrooms
[04:33:10] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: wireless N bridge between the two houses (500 ft apart).... works bueatifuly
[04:34:11] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: That's cool that Wireless N is working – especially for HD.  ;-) I tried HD ATSC over Wireless G a few years ago and gave up and ran cat5e... ;-)
[04:34:33] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: yes, struggled with that considerably
[04:35:07] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: we've found that you can get 2 HD streams working flawlessly and a job
[04:35:50] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: whereas we couldn't get one HD stream over our G Bridge
[04:36:52] mattwj2002: sounds good
[04:37:03] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: Yeah, I've had an "N" router since CompUSA went under... And now run Gigabit over my Cat5e. ;-)
[04:37:48] JonBaugh: yep, each house has gigE, but no way to do that with wires, since it's across the street and three houses up :)
[04:38:52] JonBaugh: we just got these access points from newegg a couple weeks ago, but so far.... VERY impressed
[04:39:41] J-e-f-f-A: JonBaugh: Wow... just the 'stock' antennas on those access points?
[04:40:09] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: no, we bought external 'indoor' antennas (but mounted them outside)
[04:40:30] JonBaugh: J-e-f-f-A: so far zero problems... and it's snowy and cold as shit outside

[04:51:33] mattwj2002: oh second I'll show you what I mean
[04:51:35] arodd: So...I'm trying to cut commercials for playback on PS3. For some reason PS3 only plays TS streams which are of the native recording type. After transcoding and cutting the commercials I end up with PS. So using ffmpeg I am able to remux the cut recording back to TS and it plays fine on the PS3 again, except for I've lost the seeking. Trying to rebuild seek tables with either...
[04:51:38] mattwj2002: *one second
[04:51:44] arodd: mythtranscode/mythcommflag doesn't seem to the trick
[04:52:05] arodd: anyone?

[04:52:36] Reiver (Reiver!n=medontwa@c-67-171-44-233.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[04:52:48] wagnerrp: im pretty sure thats what my PVR cards dump, which my PS3 handles just fine
[04:53:02] arodd: pvr cards usually dump TS
[04:53:09] arodd: some do PS
[04:53:09] wagnerrp: this is a lossless transcode i assume?
[04:53:14] arodd: yeah
[04:53:26] mattwj2002: http://www.ftalist.com/english.htm
[04:53:28] arodd: after the transcode it ends up PS format and the PS3 reports corrupted file
[04:53:52] arodd: so using ffmpeg you can remux to TS with the commercials remaining cut...but then you lose seek tables and can't regenerate them for some reason
[04:54:16] wagnerrp: well at least according to my recording profile, it says im dumping PSs
[04:54:25] JonBaugh: hmmm... haven't gotten that far yet
[04:54:27] arodd: that's weird then
[04:54:56] wagnerrp: PSs for everything, even the profiles i havent messed with
[04:55:37] arodd: i don't fully understand the seek table business? Does this get stored in mysql? If that's the case then the ps3 could never really access the seek information anyways. But if I just playback the original recording from myth I can fast forward/rewind with the full 120x speed in ps3.
[04:55:49] wagnerrp: yeah... http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps . . . letypes.html
[04:55:50] arodd: the remuxed copy doesn't
[04:56:10] wagnerrp: the seektable is ONLY for mythtv's internal player
[04:56:16] wagnerrp: im not entirely sure why it needs it
[04:56:20] wagnerrp: but it cannot seek without it
[04:56:58] arodd: that makes sense...
[04:57:29] arodd: yeah that shows PS support which is messed up that these won't play after lossless commercial cutting
[04:57:47] arodd: do you do commercial cutting with yours?
[04:57:54] arodd: or just play the original PS
[04:58:00] wagnerrp: i have done both

[08:47:54] GlemSom: I've read that mythtv can record from two channels – if they use the same multiplex... How do I know if two channels are using the same multiplex?
[08:48:15] justinh: if they have the same mplexid :)
[08:52:08] GlemSom: That's odd... DiscoveryHD and NGC HD both uses mplexid 19. But MythTV does not want to use the same tuner when recording from both of then :/ (assuming the mplesid is found in the "channel" table)
[08:54:46] justinh: anyway myth can record way more than just two channels from the same multiplex :)
[08:55:14] justinh: the default setting is only two
[08:55:44] justinh: but if you upgraded to 0.21 & didn't change anything, you may still only have 1 'encoder' per tuner

[08:59:23] GlemSom: justinh, In mythtv-setup I defined 3 recording per tuner... So I guess that means it can record 3 shows at the time (If they're on the same multiplex)...?

Mythtv uses the virtual tuners (can be seen in mythweb – not in the UI) – and by looking at the database MythTV did not correctly associate the virtual tuners with the real tuners. (It needs to associate the first 3 to card1 and the other 3 to card2)

[17:05:38] clever: is the signal your reading an analog one or a pulse?
[17:05:53] Dibblah: I'm taking the current consumption and the voltage levels in realtime and multiplying them. So the signals are analog.

[17:08:57] clever: a transformer in series with the HOT, and outputing a voltage related to the current?

[21:22:01] Chutt: xris, you just have to setup the two sources, deactivate channels on one, and make sure the sd config contains everything

[21:26:17] gregL: xris: This maybe what you are looking for...http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-24.html#ss24.4
[21:26:32] xris: clever: no clue. I know that some people do it because xmltv is a little more efficient in how it grabs data.
[21:26:56] clever: xris: yeah, i was surprised when i used a java/xmltv based guide viewer and it downloaded the stuff in seconds
[21:27:13] xris: it's been driving robert (xmltv maintainer) nuts that no mythtv dev has stepped up to change things to be more efficient, but he doesn't actually use mythtv, so he doesn't really care.
[21:27:18] stuarta (stuarta!n=stuarta@unaffiliated/stuarta) has left #mythtv-users ("wibble")
[21:27:23] clever: i suspect i can just steal the xmltv config from that program and tell mythtv to use xmltv/thatconfig
[21:27:23] xris: just causes a lot of annoying bug reports at SD.
[21:27:58] xris: clever: xmltv tells SD "grab 14 days of data".. mythtv says "grab 1 day ... grab 1 day ... grab 1 day ..."
[21:28:09] clever: yeah i know why it does that
[21:28:40] clever: but you could still make it more paralel even if you stay with the 1 day method
[21:28:57] clever: using QProcess and some signal/slot magic you can have a wget running while you process the last chunk
[21:29:18] clever: but it seems alot simpler to just edit the config ui to create an xmltv config, and run with that

[21:38:43] qfx: Or for that matter, where would log statements even go... apache log?
[21:39:05] clever: qfx: i usualy make a logmsg() function which appends to /tmp/something
[21:39:08] GreyFoxx: Anduin: heh you'd be hard pressed to catch up to mine heh
[21:39:19] clever: but stderr on apache is directed towards error.log(configured in apache config)

[21:40:30] kormoc: qfx, there are interactive debuggers for php, xdebug.org is the open source favorite, but they tend to be fairly more work then they're worth.
[21:40:46] clever: qfx: but there are things like register tick function, which will run x between every function call
[21:41:05] clever: qfx: and mythweb somehow outputs a backtrace on error, so yuo could examine the backtrace at every line
[21:41:06] kormoc: qfx, if you want to give it a go, try out Zend's ide, that should have a free demo that will work with xdebug I believe
[21:41:16] kormoc: oh christ
[21:41:41] kormoc: backtracing on every line is worthless... ugh...

[21:44:51] clever: kormoc: its processing a bunch of text files and inserting into mysql
[21:44:57] clever: kormoc: that doesnt sound like a bash task
[21:45:10] laga: sounds like a perl task
[21:45:17] MartinCleaver (MartinCleaver!n=martincl@74.210.19.132) has joined #mythtv-users
[21:45:19] kormoc: jams, negative, sorry
[21:45:19] jams: bash would be able to handle that
[21:45:22] clever: i know php better then perl
[21:45:34] Dibblah: This can't be right. But it seems to me that it's not possible to change the channel for a record rule, without resorting to editing the database?
[21:45:35] kormoc: sed/awk for the win!
[21:45:43] Dibblah: Frontend can't, mythweb can't.
[21:46:02] clever: kormoc: ive seen irc clients writen in bash, but that doesnt mean its easy and fast
[21:46:06] kormoc: Dibblah, yeah, previous recommendation is delete and re-create
[21:46:19] qfx: Thanks guys
[21:46:22] kormoc: clever, perl would be the better language then php for that stuff, and that is easy and fast
[21:47:07] qfx: sed/awk or striaght up perl for text parsing
[21:47:13] jams: kormoc- no problem, I'm interested in them but have not found a decent review or feedback for them. And they are a bit of money to shell out just to try it.
[21:47:15] clever: kormoc: i wrote a perl program to replicate one of my tools, and Dibblah said the style of code was horid:P
[21:47:15] clever: though i havent writen perl in a year and i never checked my book:P
[21:47:16] kormoc: qfx, if you're looking for state on a object/var, print_r($item); works well, throw_error() will cause a backtrace to be generated at the error being thrown
[21:47:32] clever: kormoc: http://clever.mine.nu/feed.txt
[21:47:33] kormoc: clever, I think that's less Perl's fault and more you
[21:48:06] clever: its easyer to just keep using php then to relearn perl
[21:48:12] kormoc: jams, yeah, I haven't ever actually heard of a single soul using them or even thinking bout using them. Iomega seems to be just background noise these days

[21:49:31] clever: i had to bug #perl alot to get that script working:P
[21:50:02] clever: but i allmost never visit ##php
[21:50:24] Dibblah: Perl can be a hard one to get right.
[21:50:49] Dibblah: There's so many perl shortcuts that other languages seem verbose.
[21:50:56] clever: yeah
[21:51:02] laga: Dibblah: yeah. it's terrible. :)
[21:51:04] clever: like leaving () out on functions
[21:51:11] jams: kormoc- Thats what i'm worried about. Looking for a decent backup solution other then external usb disks. The rev drive itself isn't so interesing but the rev loader has caught my eye. Before spending cash on the loader it seems sensible to buy a single drive first(if I even go down this road)..
[21:51:13] laga: of course, the perl lovers are going to kill me now
[21:51:17] clever: and how i can abuse $@ in so many damn places:P

[21:55:38] kormoc: aye
[21:55:53] qfx: yes, but I assumed that's because I set it up...
[21:56:11] kormoc: well, did you try coping the file it asks for over?
[21:56:50] qfx: find / -name config.xml doesn't turn anything up

[21:58:11] kormoc: well, it's .mythtv
[21:58:22] kormoc: and the frontend should create that file, in the user's home dir
[21:58:36] kormoc: well, in ~/.mythtv/config.xml
[21:58:38] qfx: typo, sorry. There is a /var/lib/wwwrun/.mythtv directory, but it's empty (ls -a)
[21:59:06] qfx: ah, there's a config.xml in my home directory... maybe that'll do it!
[21:59:28] qfx: copying to /var/lib/wwwrun/.mythtv now

[23:39:56] directhex: xvmc is old tech, which can only offload some components of MPEG2 decoding
[23:40:12] directhex: most GPUs are capable of better, but the driver and API support is needed
