[00:00:01] Dagmar: I don't allow "just any" traffic back out here
[00:00:17] PatrickDK: heh, I just do that on the ip level
[00:00:27] Dagmar: I actively monitor
[00:00:58] keith4__: Dagmar: the LEDs are on opposite sides... 50 degree cone each? so, the remote will work from the left and right, but not the center?
[00:01:11] Dagmar: It'll work from anywhere
[00:01:21] Dagmar: Remember, light bounces off EVERYTHING practically
[00:01:28] keith4__: hmmm
[00:01:32] Dagmar: I don't have anything resembling line of sight to my couch
[00:01:47] Dagmar: That serial transciever I got is on the *rear* of the MythTV machine
[00:02:01] Dagmar: All I have to do is point in it's general direction and I'm good.
[00:02:03] keith4__: yah, i saw that in a howto... "as long as you have white walls, it'll be fine"
[00:02:10] PatrickDK: heh
[00:02:14] PatrickDK: it doesn't work for me
[00:02:20] keith4__: i'd probably use a USB extension and put the thing by the TV, anyway
[00:02:23] PatrickDK: but then mine is in the bedroom closet with the doors shut
[00:02:25] Dagmar: Not a bad idea
[00:02:59] Dagmar: I had a problem once with my gf complaining the remote wasn't working
[00:03:12] Dagmar: She was standing directly in front of the TV trying to use it while pointing it at the TV
[00:03:31] Dagmar: The TV completely eclipsed where the myth box was

[01:31:32] chasep: where can I find a legend of what the icons on the "select recordings to watch" screen mean? Most of them I know, but some I don't. When I search, all I find is stuff about channel icons
[01:31:37] rooaus: Lynet: Yadif uses a bit more cpu but is generally considered better, but you should evaluate both.
[01:32:10] rooaus: chasep: F1 should bring up a help screen that has the icon legend.
[01:32:32] chasep: wow, no wonder I couldn't find anything, it was way too easy!
[01:35:03] chasep: i knew mythtv was awesome. but now that I have my tvout working, and mythweb working, its better than I ever hoped
[01:35:48] rooaus: Lynet: Both deinterlacers use a number of consecutive frames to reduce motion artifacts but do it differently (obviously). When I was doing the patch for the context sensitive help for that screen I lookoed for some concise explanation of the differences but couldn't find one.
[01:37:58] rooaus: Lynet: To be completely honest, I was hoping that the text may have been improved when it was committed. If you find a good explanation of the differences then I will fix it. :)
[01:39:47] Lynet: rooaus: Ok, thanks. Is there a good technical explanation of them somewhere? google kinda came up short when searching for them.
[01:40:10] Lynet: Not that it's horribly important, mostly curious.
[01:40:57] Lynet: Oh, and a second question – how do i make mythtv log if it picks the primary or fallback interlacer?
[01:43:44] rooaus: Lynet: Not that I could find, the last resort was the source... or hoping the person that committed it knew more about the details :)
[01:46:07] rooaus: I thought it did log the interlacer (primary or fallback) used, but then I haven't looked at my logs for a while.

[04:46:41] hads: sshirley: That depends on how you have things setup. For specific Ubuntu help you might like to try #ubuntu-mythtv

[04:48:08] hads: I personally use .xinitrc to start mythfrontend.
[04:48:35] Lynet: Would there be much interest in a vmware mythtv frontend?
[04:48:48] Khonshu2: that could be handy for testing
[04:49:09] Khonshu2: I'd like to have a vmware image prebuilt to test against
[04:49:20] Led-Hed: Lynet, I just netboot it
[04:49:23] sshirley: That would be great
[04:49:58] Solarbaby: Im a big fan of Ubuntu-Mythtv
[04:50:10] Solarbaby: it worked right out of the box..
[04:50:15] sshirley: Ok...well, here is a non-ubuntu question. I can watch live tv. But when I record a show and watch it, it comes out all static. :-) Any ideas?
[04:50:24] sshirley: mythbuntu is great
[04:50:26] Khonshu2: what TV card?
[04:50:43] Khonshu2: I have had that problem with a KWorld card, an old bt878 chipset
[04:50:45] ** Led-Hed not a big fan of Ubuntu **
[04:50:46] Lynet: I was thinking mainly in terms of turning any computer into an instant frontend without the need for reboot, provided that you have vmware player installed.
[04:51:01] sshirley: PVR-500. It has worked before and only on the latest re-install it has not worked. But I don't think I configured anything differently.
[04:51:43] Led-Hed: Lynet, I guess that might be usefull. Would be even better if MythFrontend were capable of compiling on Win32
[04:51:50] Led-Hed: or cygwin
[04:52:01] Lynet: Led-Hed: True. What are the chances for that, though?
[04:52:16] hads: Why?
[04:52:24] Led-Hed: Lynet, well there are some win32 bits in the code
[04:52:34] Led-Hed: hads, why what?
[04:52:42] hads: Why run Windows?
[04:52:55] sshirley: My girlfriend will KILL me if I dont get this figured out :-)
[04:53:00] Led-Hed: So Windows pukes could use MythTV
[04:53:12] hads: *shrug*
[04:53:30] sshirley: If LiveTV works, recording should too
[04:53:37] Led-Hed: kinda the same as why would you want Myth to work on a Mac
[04:53:50] sshirley: Yeah, but Mac is cool :-)
[04:54:01] Solarbaby: Windows has a pretty good MythTV frontend.. doesn't work with a remote control though
[04:54:12] Led-Hed: Macs are just another Cult like that one in Texas
[04:54:28] Lynet: Solarbaby: You mean tapeworm or the winmyth thing?
[04:54:29] sshirley: Just no bigamy
[04:54:55] Solarbaby: an alernative I've been playing with is XBMC running on Windows.. Yes it works now.. and I setup a remote control with that.. and it has real basic navigation features of your recordings with mythtv
[04:55:03] Solarbaby: Lynet: no
[04:55:13] Led-Hed: sshirley, Macs are soo much better than PC's, then they go out and use 100% PC hardware and say "The Fastest Mac Ever!"
[04:55:40] sshirley: :-)
[04:55:46] hads: I believe there's a packaging script for Windows in SVN now.
[04:55:52] sshirley: Ok, ok.....back to the recording issue.... :-)
[04:55:56] Khonshu2: Mac's are a cult... lol. not as cool as in Texas from the news, Steve Jobs only has one wife.
[04:56:19] Led-Hed: Steve Jobs is Gay
[04:56:20] Solarbaby: You only need 1 wife.. and lots of play toys
[04:56:30] Khonshu2: lmao
[04:56:34] Khonshu2: sure
[04:56:44] Khonshu2: don't know why anyone would want more than one anyhow
[04:57:06] Lynet: sshirley: How do you try to playback? In mythfrontend or with a separate player?
[04:57:07] Khonshu2: one's hard enough to please, no wonder you don't see those men on the news, they are wore the hell out...
[04:57:17] sshirley: frontend
[04:58:00] Lynet: sshirley: Hmm. Try copying one of the recordings to an other machine and try to play it on that. To figure out if it is mythfrontend or the video file that is messed up.
[04:58:30] Led-Hed: Solarbaby, 1 wife is more than enough sometimes too much. I would jump off a bridge if I had more than 1
[04:58:49] Lynet: sshirley: But as you say, if live works the recordigs should be ok too.
[04:59:56] sshirley: mythtv records to .mpg, right?
[05:00:06] Lynet: sshirley: Hmm.. Perhaps check your recording profiles, mythtv can use different bitrates etc when recording vs when watching live.
[05:00:17] Khonshu2: depends on your card
[05:00:44] ** Lynet points 10 minutes up. He has a pvr-500. **
[05:01:06] Khonshu2: yup, ok, then yes
[05:01:26] Lynet: sshirley: Yes, pvr-500 encodes to mpeg-2.
[05:01:36] Led-Hed: so is X required on a backend? so that you can run mythsetup?
[05:02:45] sshirley: lynet: where in the menu lists do i check for recording profiles?
[05:03:47] sshirley: found it
[05:03:58] Lynet: Setup -tv settings – recording profiles.
[05:04:04] sshirley: bitrate is 4500 and max bitrate is 6000
[05:04:26] hadees: pastie: hi
[05:04:28] sshirley: the aspect ratio is 4:30 (I just got a hdtv, so I thnk I'll set it for 16:9
[05:04:36] sshirley: do those bitrates sound ok?
[05:05:33] Led-Hed: yes
[05:05:54] sshirley: Ok....the stream type is currently set to 'MPEG-2 PS'
[05:05:59] sshirley: Does that sound right?
[05:05:59] Lynet: sshirley: Sounds just fine. I'd advise against changing the aspect ratio, that's the aspect ratio of the video being recorded not the aspect ratio of the playback display.
[05:06:02] sshirley: What is PS?
[05:06:33] sshirley: Yeah, right now I still have SD cable. So until I get HD cable, I guess I'll keep the aspect ratio
[05:07:25] Lynet: Anyway, look at the settings in your Live profile and then make sure that the settings in the recording profile(s) (default, high quality, low quality) look similar.
[05:07:29] sshirley: no...the aspect ratio is the aspect ratio "generated by your pvr"
[05:09:21] sshirley: the livetv is the same
[05:09:46] sshirley: but it has the width as 720 and height as 480. should i change those to the hdtv size?
[05:10:55] Lynet: Those are *recording* settings, not *playback* settings. You are recording ntsc, so 720x480 is fine.
[05:11:04] sshirley: gotcha
[05:11:58] sshirley: i downloaded the recording to my laptop and its coming out as static
[05:12:02] Lynet: Anyway, if they look similar then that's probably not the problem. Do you have access to the recorings over the network? If so, try to copy one of the files and see if it plays back ok on an other computer.
[05:12:12] Lynet: Ah, ok. Is recording then.
[05:12:22] sshirley: :-(
[05:13:17] Lynet: sshirley: No, this is good. We now know that there's something wrong with recording, and not with the playback settings.
[05:13:27] sshirley: Ok, cool. :-)
[05:13:40] sshirley: Then what could it be?
[05:14:12] sshirley: I'm doing another recording right now just to see. But it won't be done for another 25 mins
[05:14:45] Lynet: What kind of static? Is it like if you had tuned your TV to a wrong channel?
[05:16:02] sshirley: I'd say so. Not your typical bland-and-white, no signal kind
[05:16:20] sshirley: more like a grey static
[05:16:20] Lynet: ..or like if you had unplugged the cable?
[05:16:23] sshirley: if that makes sense
[05:17:41] sshirley: if its grey, i guess its more like a garbled signal kind

[05:19:32] sshirley: so, yeah, maybe the wrong channel kind
[05:20:15] Lynet: If you watch the same channel in live tv, does it work ok? (might be a channel that is tuned wrong).
[05:20:36] sshirley: tuner 1 is working fine. tahst the same one that live tv used earlier
[05:23:53] sshirley: is there a way to stop recording so that I can see if it's recorded ok?
[05:24:30] Lynet: It should show up i media library – watch recordings, you can watch it while it is recording.
[05:26:30] Lynet: you have made more than one recording, right? and from different tv channels? and all are static?
[05:27:53] sshirley: ok, the preview looks ok (from the view recordings list)
[05:28:13] sshirley: thats wierd.
[05:28:22] sshirley: so it was just the first one from earlier today
[05:28:43] sshirley: the playback is kinda jerky though. but ok
[05:29:26] Lynet: It might perhaps be something as silly as the cable co having problems while you were recording that show.

[05:31:53] sshirley: under playback settings...is cpu-- always a good setting (as opposed to high quality, etc)?
[05:32:40] Anduin: sshirley: It is a good place to start, best to try things until you find something you like.
[05:34:24] Lynet: It kinda depends on your hardware.
[05:35:19] sshirley: ok, cool
[05:35:38] sshirley: Then I think I am set for now. :-) Except how to record HD once I get my HD cable service. :-)
[05:36:03] sshirley: Two STB's, one stb and one encoder card, etc
[05:38:09] sshirley: any quick suggestions?

[05:44:43] Anduin: sshirley: for most of the cards talked about here having HD cable generally isn't a requirement, basic cable likely has PBS and major affiliates unencrypted on your current cable. If you are lucky you can look at firewire capture for the STBs though.
[05:44:58] sshirley: I know. I mean use the STB for the encrypted channels and the then the encoder for the clear channels
[05:45:35] stephanez: about 10 seconds after i start playing tv from my tunner in mythtv, the system reboots. i'm using PVR500 and fresh install. any one have any suggestions?
[05:46:15] sshirley: But the things like TLC HD, discovery HD, etc will likely be encrypted, right?
[05:46:17] Anduin: stephanez: but playing existing content works?
[05:46:26] Anduin: sshirley: yes
[05:46:42] stephanez: yes, i'm betting it's ivtv issue, but i'm not sure how to confirm
[05:47:20] sshirley: right. So either 2 STB's, or one stb and one encoder. i dunno.
[05:47:28] Anduin: stephanez: cat /dev/video0 > /dev/null (or wherever the card is)
[05:48:03] stephanez: Anduin: that will cause a crash in about 10 seconds...
[05:48:35] Anduin: sshirley: you mean an encoder that take component input? or just one for non-HD? (should really look ate firewire from the STB, when it works some seem happy with it)
[05:48:44] sshirley: I get something similar. When I am in LiveTV and I escape out of it, mythfrontend crashes
[05:49:25] Anduin: stephanez: tried different kernels? You can always hook up a serial console and see if the kernel crash can be seen there.
[05:49:46] sshirley: Anduin...one HD card for unencrypted and the stb via firewire for encrypted
[05:50:01] sshirley: Or keep the PVR-500 for non-HD and the firewire for HD
[05:50:58] Anduin: If firewire works I don't know why you'd go for a HD card (other than that it would be cheaper than an extra STB in a few months)
[05:51:31] jhulst (jhulst!n=jhulst@unaffiliated/jhulst) has quit ("Konversation terminated!")
[05:51:56] Anduin: Though if you are lucky enough to have things multiplex right, multirec is nice.
[05:52:03] sshirley: Well, I want to be able to record AND watch tv. That requires two sources (which is why I got my PVR-500 (with 2 tuners)).
[05:52:22] sshirley: whats multirec?
[05:52:29] Anduin: Oh, live TV, ick :)
[05:52:37] sshirley: right :-)
[05:52:58] sshirley: I mean, I could just use the TV for live TV and the myth for everything else
[05:52:59] Anduin: sshirley: multiple PID filtering, allows you to record n things from the same multiplex
[05:53:24] robbins876_ (robbins876_!n=robbins8@host-51-214-9-69.midco.net) has quit (Remote closed the connection)
[05:53:31] sshirley: Hmmmm....software or hardware?
[05:54:07] Anduin: sshirley: the HD card (not encoding) just passes the data you tell it to (so a combo, with MythTV being the software part)
[05:55:07] Anduin: sshirley: If I wanted I could record NBC and whatever was on the Weather Plus channel as well (sometimes you end up with a multiplex layout that doesn't make multirec all that cool)
[05:55:38] sshirley: So I am better off getting two stb's
[05:56:32] Anduin: sshirley: You should check that firewire works and lets you get the channels you want (not that an HD card will work around that)
[05:57:52] sshirley: Ok. So first I'll get one stb from the cable company and give that a whirl with firewire (once I can get them to enable that port). Then if it works, maybe get another one
[05:58:25] sshirley: Although according to the multirec wiki, all digital cable transmissions in north america are multiplexed
[05:59:50] Anduin: sshirley: That is what I'd do, may also want to check silicondust's site to see what QAM is available in your area, if your primary interest is in the major networks it could be cheaper but you gave up on cheap when you started building an MythTV box anyway.
[06:00:36] Anduin: sshirley: Yes they are multiplexed, but it has to be the same one (generally 2–3 HD channels)
[06:00:54] sshirley: gotcha
[06:00:58] stephanez: Anduin: based on the ivtv mailing list, looks like it might be this #@($* via mobo....

[06:03:40] stephanez: looks like i'm going to replace this motherboard... hopefully i can find something at work...
[06:03:48] sshirley: According to silicon dust....not a lot of channels :-)

[19:24:10] clever: ext3 trys to pick free blocks properly to avoid fragmentation
[19:24:17] clever: but with 0% free it has trouble:P
[19:24:33] clever: and i have 0% reserved for root
[19:24:36] natoka: as do other fs like reiser and xfs
[19:24:51] natoka: and still they can fragment
[19:24:55] clever: only way to realy solve that is to defrag in realtime as needed
[19:25:14] natoka: and the only thing to resolve that is to move the stuff someplace else and reformat
[19:25:16] clever: a rotating log based fs can avoid the fragmentation
[19:25:20] clever: and improve write speeds
[19:25:39] clever: i solve most of my ext3 level fragmentation by just moving all the fragmented files out for a min
[19:25:48] clever: and hope the fragments are near eachother
[19:25:59] clever: letting it pick a better layout when i move them back
[19:26:28] clever: for lvm, i use a php script which just pvmove's the extents about
[19:26:43] clever: at first i defraged it by hand
[19:26:50] clever: hour after hour:P
[19:27:20] clever: its still checking for fragmented files

[19:29:43] michthom: Please help – I'm hard of thinking tonight. I'm running two frontends on the same machine (different X displays). Is there any way to force each mythfrontend to use a specific 'custom identifier' option when starting up? I'm thinking of the -O switch but don't see what to specify.
[19:30:21] clever: michthom: id run them under seperate usernames
[19:30:21] clever: with there own private ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt
[19:30:31] clever: which is where that option is kept
[19:31:04] clever: mythtv and mythcrt would be a fun way to name them if you used both heads of the vid card:P
[19:31:39] michthom: clever: Thanks. I'm not sure that'll be as easy as I'd hoped – the displays are :0.0 and :0.1, so both controlled by the same X server and therefore the main mythtv user...
[19:31:55] clever: i had similar problems at first
[19:31:56] michthom: But I'll certainly try that approach
[19:32:01] clever: my X server was loged in by clever
[19:32:06] clever: but mythtv ran as mythtv
[19:32:16] clever: i simply copyed the xauth cookies over with this script
[19:32:29] clever: sudo rm /tmp/auth;xauth extract /tmp/auth :0 &&sudo chown mythtv /tmp/auth && sudo -u mythtv xauth -f /home/mythtv/.Xauthority merge /tmp/auth && sudo rm /tmp/auth
[19:32:33] michthom: Did you have to run xhost + or similar?
[19:32:40] michthom: Aha I see
[19:32:51] clever: 'xhost +localhost' only works when tcp is enabled
[19:32:54] clever: and lets all users in
[19:33:08] clever: mythtv fails thru the unix socket(no cookie) so it then trys localhost thru tcp
[19:33:31] clever: which is less safe because 'wideopenshellforfriend' can also login and play with your graphics:P
[19:34:14] michthom: Aye but as I'm the alpha geek and everything in the house runs behind a hardware firewall I only have to f38r my 4.5 year old son :-)

[20:13:45] michthom: clever: Luckily your prod pushed me to running mythfrontend --help!
[20:13:54] clever: :)
[20:14:18] clever: a 2nd problem i get from using :0 and :1
[20:14:22] clever: is that the keyboard focus
[20:14:29] clever: can only go where the mouse is aimed
[20:14:45] clever: and mythtv also seems to be focrced to use a single lirc socket
[20:14:53] clever: so you would need seperate remote def's
[20:15:00] clever: or use the remote for 1 and the keyboard for the other
[20:15:00] michthom: clever: I got around that somewhat with xwit and some scripts to switch focus on remote keypresses
[20:15:09] clever: but the keyboard would go to what you started last

[20:15:24] clever: id use that but my lirc is dead too now

[20:17:36] clever: the color scheme changes some when myth doesnt have focus
[20:17:56] clever: running seperate X servers would fix several problems
[20:17:57] clever: :0 and :1
[20:18:09] clever: but thats not easy
[20:18:13] michthom: Yes, the highlights don't highlight properly.
[20:18:36] clever: ive tryed to run a :1 on a older pci card before
[20:18:39] michthom: Ah well, wife is happy, so therefore I won't push the envelope
[20:18:44] clever: but its hard to get :1 AND :0 working at once
[20:18:50] clever: with input also
[20:19:06] clever: both vga ports went into a kvm
[20:19:17] clever: and both took a 'usb keyboard/mouse' from the kvm
[20:19:31] clever: no real uniq feature to either to tell which Xorg the input belonged to

[20:22:50] michthom: I thought the nvidia drivers could do it  – are you an ATI man?
[20:22:59] clever: nvidia on the tvout desktop
[20:23:11] clever: xnest(and related things) are both X client and server
[20:23:21] clever: you run a master X server on all heads
[20:23:23] michthom: Hmm. I assume you've read the nvidia readme all the way through and backwards to boot?
[20:23:33] clever: then xnest opens a window on :0.0
[20:23:39] clever: and displays its own clients in there
[20:23:59] clever: xnest takes its own input from xorg(when it has focus)
[20:24:13] clever: the variants read right from /dev/input/something(letting them not need focus)

[22:16:50] Wabi (Wabi!n=mythtv@190.10.9.39) has joined #mythtv-users
[22:16:54] Wabi: yea that was it
[22:18:48] tjcarter (tjcarter!i=nobody@209.237.95.55) has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[22:20:02] grokky (grokky!n=grokky@batter.csse.unimelb.edu.au) has joined #mythtv-users
[22:20:25] clever: gimzo: all i can say is google it to death:P
[22:20:30] clever: or mail me a dvb card
[22:20:41] clever: or paypal me something for a dvb card:P
[22:20:41] tjcarter (tjcarter!i=nobody@209.237.95.55) has joined #MythTV-users
[22:20:59] gimzo: I'm googling right now :)

[22:23:19] clever: whoa
[22:23:24] clever: batery got down to 29%
[22:23:27] clever: and i didnt even notice it
[22:23:46] clever: could have fallen out an hour ago when i moved the laptop and started playing that 264 file
[22:23:51] clever: 264 realy kills the batery:P
[22:24:16] gimzo: 264 kills my cpu :)
[22:24:38] gimzo: hopefully ati GPU will get some kind of cpu offload so I can watch 264 :)
[22:24:51] clever: c2d 1.8ghz
[22:24:56] clever: and single core 1.6ghz
[22:25:01] clever: both those laptops can handle 264
[22:25:07] clever: the c2d with ease
[22:25:16] clever: but its still 100% freq and 100% load
[22:25:35] clever: the 1.6 is currently running in 600mhz mode(less power/heat)
[22:25:46] clever: but still 100% 600mhz because of the boinc
[22:25:54] gimzo: is that 264 1080p ?
[22:26:26] clever: 1280x720_x264
[22:26:26] clever: VO: [xv] 1280x720 => 1280x720 Planar YV12
[22:26:29] clever: VDec: vo config request – 1280 x 720 (preferred colorspace: Planar YV12)
[22:26:52] clever: VIDEO: [avc1] 1280x720 24bpp 23.976 fps 0.0 kbps ( 0.0 kbyte/s)
[22:27:04] clever: plain mp3 it seems for the aud
[22:27:08] clever: with an hda intel card
[22:27:16] clever: it keeps warning about a lack of a hardware mixer
[22:27:21] clever: so its doing the volume in cpu
[22:27:33] zabadapp (zabadapp!n=asdf@c-d957e455.06-16-756d651.cust.bredbandsbolaget.se) has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[22:27:35] gimzo: I think 1280x720 would possibly work here, but I tried 1920x1080 and it doesn't work :)
[22:27:37] clever: and the cheap buggers only gave me 1 channel output
[22:27:46] clever: MONO output on the laptop!!!
[22:28:02] gimzo: Athlon64 3700+ -> 2200Mhz
[22:28:18] clever: i have 3 dell laptops
[22:28:44] clever: root@olddell:~# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies
[22:28:48] clever: 1000000 700000
[22:28:59] clever: d630 c2d 1801000 1800000 1200000 800000
[22:29:12] clever: d600 single core 1600000 1400000 1200000 1000000 800000 600000
[22:29:27] elg (elg!n=fugalh@216.31.27.110) has left #mythtv-users ()
[22:29:55] clever: its basicaly underclocking to save power
[22:30:17] grokky (grokky!n=grokky@batter.csse.unimelb.edu.au) has joined #mythtv-users
[22:30:24] clever: the olddell(a c600) locks up solid(entire userspace atleast) whenever the cpu freq changes
[22:30:47] clever: which causes some fun buffer overflow on the ps2 stream(touch pad and keyboard)
[22:30:55] gimzo: Here works ok (and it's not even a laptop) :)
[22:31:03] clever: i loose some bytes and movements turn into clicking randomly everywhere
[22:31:24] clever: was f*cking anoying when i had no idea why
[22:31:31] clever: id ls a big folder
[22:31:35] clever: masive cpu usage
[22:31:37] clever: freq up
[22:31:39] clever: lockup!
[22:31:39] gimzo: unless I'm playing UT which gets cpu clock before it starts using it and when the clock changes, so does the game speed :)
[22:31:48] clever: then i go to punch in a cd or something
[22:31:56] clever: half way thru, its idle!, lower freq, lockup!
[22:32:00] ahbritto (ahbritto!n=guest@adsl-69-104-245-232.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[22:32:04] clever: EVERY SINGLE time i typed a command!
[22:32:45] clever: i 'fixed' it by making it wait 30 seconds between changes
[22:33:06] clever: so they happen alot less freq and it needs to be high usage for the entire 30 sec
[22:33:10] clever: less power on demand but more responsive overall
[22:33:28] clever: i also made the thing setuid so i can change it thru a gnome widget
[22:34:46] stoth (stoth!n=stoth@ool-18bfe594.dyn.optonline.net) has quit ("This computer has gone to sleep")
[22:35:12] Wabi: ok im stucked again, now its when i have to enter mythtv-setup
[22:35:24] Wabi: it says command not found
[22:37:02] gimzo: try /usr/sbin/mythtv-setup
[22:37:11] clever: PATH probly isnt being set right
[22:37:48] Wabi: same thing
[22:38:02] Wabi: [root@localhost mythtv]# updatedb
[22:38:02] Wabi: [root@localhost mythtv]# locate mythtv-setup
[22:38:02] Wabi: [root@localhost mythtv]#
[22:38:17] gimzo: on fedora 7 sbin directories are not in path
[22:38:37] neztiti: hi guys
[22:38:39] gimzo: Wabi: how did you install mythtv?
[22:38:46] clever: gimzo: same on redhat9
[22:38:51] clever: sbin's arent in non root path
[22:38:54] Wabi: following this guide: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/User_Man . . . Installation
[22:38:58] Wabi: and with synaptic
[22:39:00] clever: sbin is for system admins mostly
[22:39:16] clever: it also gives a bit of a false security
[22:39:17] neztiti: does mythtv works with NVidia GeForce FX 5200 tvout
[22:39:21] gimzo: they aren't in root path in f7 also :)
[22:39:26] clever: lsof no worky != disabled
[22:39:51] clever: gimzo: i might have fixed that myself but the install is 4 years old
[22:39:57] clever: 2.4.20–8
[22:40:17] clever: Filesystem created: Sat Dec 11 23:40:37 2004
[22:40:28] clever: (dumpe2fs on root)
[22:40:34] gimzo: well, I installed debian recently, and I'm happy now :)
[22:40:54] clever: i used redhat9 on my laptop as the 2nd main linux system
[22:41:00] clever: then replaced it with ubuntu later on
[22:41:06] clever: now ubuntu is on nearly everything
[22:41:14] clever: except the router which is lfs
[22:41:27] clever: ive even made some nfs root'ed ubuntu's using debootstrap
[22:41:40] clever: im typing from one of the nfsroot's right now
[22:42:08] clever: only major problem is the keyboard randomly dies in a few programs(firefox, pidgin, mythtv atleast)
[22:42:19] clever: and ANY lag in nfs causes the whole system to crawl
[22:42:59] clever: but it is sharing the root across 3 systems without any noticable problems
[22:43:37] gimzo: is that booting over network or just root?
[22:43:46] clever: whole thing over the net
[22:43:57] clever: dhcp gets pxelinux
[22:44:02] clever: which gets the kernel over tftp
[22:44:10] clever: the initrd then mounts the root over nfs
[22:44:40] clever: im able to 'borrow' dads work laptop(with the c2d 1.8ghz) without messing up his hdd and special xp install
[22:44:46] gimzo: I'm planning to do something like that for some mythtv STBs I'm planning to build when I get some money
[22:45:08] clever: i set it up to boot a bare X with mythfrontend by default
[22:45:14] clever: but i rarely actualy use it for that
[22:45:21] clever: i mostly ctrl+alt+backspace and startx
[22:45:31] clever: its got an entire gnome+compiz+ff+other bloat
[22:45:53] tjcarter (tjcarter!i=nobody@209.237.95.55) has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[22:45:53] clever: which doesnt realy matter because im sharing it between 3 systems(3 installs for the price of 1!)
[22:45:59] clever: and its on the 300gig lvm array
[22:46:03] tjcarter (tjcarter!i=nobody@209.237.95.55) has joined #MythTV-users

[22:46:12] clever: 389G 384G 4.7G 99% /media/mainlv
[22:46:29] clever: i could probly install EVERY package in ubuntu and not run out of space(if i delete enough recordings)
[22:46:47] gimzo: you have 350+ GB of recordings?
[22:46:53] tjcarter (tjcarter!i=nobody@209.237.95.55) has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[22:46:54] clever: 250 for myth
[22:47:00] clever: 264G /media/mainlv/mythtv/
[22:47:27] PatrickDK: heh, beginners :)
[22:47:29] clever: rest is other crap(anime and music mainly)
[22:47:34] clever: and several disk images
[22:47:48] clever: the c600's hdd went tits up just as i finished the nfsroot
[22:47:54] clever: so i just booted it on nfs
[22:47:59] clever: and imaged what was left of the drive
[22:48:04] clever: perfect recovery platform!
[22:48:22] clever: its low on ram so i have it swaping from the dying drive
[22:48:58] clever: but other then that it works fine
[22:48:59] clever: except for the odd segfault when i pageout to a bad sector
[22:48:59] clever: 27G /media/mainlv/music
[22:48:59] clever: 64G /media/mainlv/videos
[22:48:59] clever: whoa
[22:49:01] clever: 48mb of session files for php!
[22:49:15] clever: when did they get so big
[22:50:08] clever: though the 60 day expire setting may be partialy at fault...
[22:52:16] PatrickDK: hmm, I have 516gigs in myth so far
[22:52:29] PatrickDK: and another 952gig in mythvideo
[22:52:30] clever: ive probly got half a tb in total
[22:52:33] clever: between all my systems
[22:52:55] PatrickDK: been converting everything I have into h264
