[00:00:54] Hilikus: mzb_d800 so when you say start it using ~/.xinitrc, what is it? i should write mythfrontend in there so that it gets lanched on boot?

[00:03:24] Hilikus: ok
[00:03:27] djc__: er, man xinit
[00:03:54] djc__: you'll probably want to review/examine the existing x startup scripts/process for your distro
[00:04:04] djc__: and make backup copies of anything you remove or edit
[00:04:29] djc__: also, if you have gdm (graphical login) you'll need to get that out of the way too, probably

[14:48:40] levander: One of the problems is that if you don't do it this certain way, you are going to experience "tearing". Supposedly because the video card doesn't support video overlay on a second monitor. Anybody know what tearing is?

[14:49:06] levander: Dibblah: It's an nVidia card. The first two ways are TwinView or 2 X servers.

[15:20:33] Dibblah: SVN with the last patch on that ticket, and you'll need to know the correct network_id for your local DVB-c provider.
[15:20:51] Dibblah: (You need to edit the network_id in the patch)
[15:21:29] Finswimmer: uh. network_id whats that and where do i get it?
[15:22:03] Dibblah: Ask your provider or look in the configuration pages for your STB.

[15:26:55] lt_james: hello everybody!!!
[15:27:36] kdubya: Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[15:27:46] lt_james: i am getting some problems with mythtv's setting-up and making it find tv channels
[15:27:54] lt_james: firstly
[15:28:31] lt_james: when I make my capture card use a source video...
[15:28:56] lt_james: ... and then I ask Watch tv I get an error that says that I am recording somethin
[15:29:03] lt_james: but I am not!!!
[15:29:28] kdubya: what kind of card?
[15:29:32] kdubya: analogue or digital
[15:29:37] Finswimmer: Dibblah: there is no real patch? only a svn diff?
[15:29:40] lt_james: it has both
[15:29:50] kdubya: what card is it
[15:30:04] lt_james: kdubya: it is a hauppauge
[15:30:24] lt_james: kdubya: It is detected by my Operating System
[15:31:02] Dibblah: Finswimmer: That's a patch.
[15:31:10] Dibblah: What do you mean "real patch"?
[15:31:42] kdubya: uhm
[15:31:42] lt_james: kdubya: it's logs says its model too (it is a WinTV HVR 3000 Trio)
[15:32:08] lt_james: but, as I said, my card is found
[15:32:37] kdubya: i dont know what that card is
[15:33:11] Finswimmer: Dibblah: a real patch is a file which you can use with patch -p0. but this looks like a list of changes.
[15:33:23] lt_james: those are my main problems: it starts (or it seems to start) recording and that it does not find any channel... it doesn't matter if it is an analgue channel or a digita one
[15:33:39] lt_james: I am using these drivers:
[15:33:41] Dibblah: Ah, right :)
[15:33:47] Dibblah: Look at the bottom of the page ;)
[15:34:02] Dibblah: It's just Trac presenting it in a pretty format...
[15:34:33] clever: 2007-11–10 11:29:39.459 SampleRate: Attempted to add a rate 32000 Hz, which is not in the list of allowed rates.
[15:34:35] Finswimmer: Dibblah: yeah. thanks.
[15:34:36] lt_james: kdubya: if I add the analgue part I use V4L, it I use digital one I use...
[15:34:38] clever: what might cause that?
[15:35:01] Toxicity999 (Toxicity999!n=bryan@unaffiliated/Toxicity999) has quit (Remote closed the connection)

[15:35:21] Dibblah: clever: Your card doesn't do that rate.
[15:35:22] lt_james: and It is for DVB-T
[15:35:27] clever: Dibblah: ah
[15:35:39] clever: i'll edit the settings then
[15:35:45] kdubya: so you are saying that you get the error that all available tuners are in use?
[15:35:51] Dibblah: Unless it's transcoding to a DVD profile, in which case, choose a compliant rate.
[15:36:04] Dibblah: (Not sure where that error comes from)
[15:36:09] clever: Dibblah: it came from mythbackend(every time it starts recording)
[15:36:26] lt_james: kdubya: in fact, they are not in use becasue i don't get any channel...
[15:36:28] Dibblah: Right. Change the recording profile, then :)
[15:36:43] clever: Dibblah: also mythfrontend segfaults every time i finish editing a recording profile
[15:37:02] lt_james: and If i look for them i don't get any one... But in MS W I do
[15:37:03] clever: but the changes seem to apply still...

[15:37:23] Dibblah: clever: Funky. Backtrace?
[15:37:30] clever: i can make another
[15:37:39] clever: i'll segfault it while i edit the settings then get one
[15:37:41] kdubya: lt_james, what version of myth?
[15:37:50] lt_james: so, I know I should get something... that's why we can think that I have not done something well
[15:38:04] lt_james: kdubya: hang on, please
[15:38:14] kdubya: its either 20.2 or svn
[15:39:22] lt_james: i don't think it is svn, so, it should be 20.2... but I will check it out
[15:39:42] kdubya: are you sure that the backend is running?
[15:40:04] lt_james: that't right, 20.2
[15:40:06] clever: taking a while just to get the FE to load
[15:40:10] clever: damn frame grabber
[15:40:19] kdubya: i get that error sometimes when the cards are detected in the wrong order
[15:40:21] lt_james: kdubya: i have to load it "by hand"
[15:41:21] lt_james: kdubya: and sometimes I have to reload it again because frontend does not find it when it is running... mysql database exists
[15:41:43] kdubya: i dunno man
[15:41:56] kdubya: might want to try and view it with mplayer
[15:42:02] kdubya: see if it is myth or your drivers
[15:42:32] clever: seg faulting....
[15:42:32] lt_james: kdubya: ok, i'll look for that isues... thx a lot!!!
[15:43:09] clever: damnit no core dump
[15:43:22] Finswimmer: Dibblah: just to be sure that the path could fix it. i have found my forum entry. there is the output of mythfrontend and mythbackend. maybe you could look at it? http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6725
[15:43:50] clever: forgot to set the ulimit
[15:44:20] Dibblah: Finswimmer: That doesn't help much.
[15:44:39] Dibblah: The problems you'll see are in mythtv-setup during the channel scan.
[15:44:51] Dibblah: And DON'T import from dvbscan.
[15:45:32] clever: Dibblah: got a dump:)
[15:45:54] clever: also when i turned the rate up one i got 2007-11–10 11:45:15.226 SampleRate: Attempted to add a rate 44100 Hz, which is not in the list of allowed rates.
[15:45:55] Dibblah: Just a backtrace is fine.
[15:46:05] clever: yeah i can get a backtrace from the dump
[15:46:11] Dibblah: What's the capture card?
[15:46:28] clever: not shure
[15:46:33] clever: i have 2 sound cards in the box
[15:46:58] clever: snd_als4000 and snd_intel8x0
[15:47:14] clever: one for playback and the other for recording
[15:47:41] clever: had problems in the past if myth used it for recording while something else played at a DIFF rate(same card)
[15:48:33] Dibblah: Try 48k.
[15:48:43] clever: i'll try that after i pastebin the trace

[15:52:11] clever: so its not obeying the bitrate it seems
[15:52:23] Dibblah: Or obeying it where it wasn't before.
[15:52:39] clever: i cut the bitrate down a fair ammount in my transcoding profile
[15:52:44] clever: and it was cutting my files in half
[15:52:56] clever: when it wasnt seg faulting mythtranscode
[15:53:26] Finswimmer: Dibblah: what is the best way to scan?

[16:51:57] kdubya: you could try switching to xine maybe it handles it better
[16:54:27] Finswimmer: maybe one can try to tell the dvd itself to be more tolerante
[16:55:31] kdubya: i doubt there is some setting you could find that would do that
[16:55:44] Aval0n: hey guys, Most of the time I'm running spdif sound out to my plasma tv. However when I watch movies, I use the spdif out to my receiver. When AC3 passthrough is enabled in general settings. I can pass DTS or whatever I need to the receiver no problem. But when it goes to the TV via HDMI, i just get buzzing. I can turn off AC3 and get normal sound to the TV, but then the digital signal going to the reciever won't decode DTS or THX
[16:56:07] Aval0n: is there a way to JUST enable AC3 passthrough when I play a DVD or load a video from mythtv videos?
[16:56:25] Finswimmer: hmm. yeah. it was just a thought...
[16:57:26] kdubya: the dvd player is still kind of new

[17:09:56] kdubya: doesnt work well

[17:25:08] Sembiance: So I just bought a Playstation 3 and I noticed that it automatically detected my MythTV server and lets me play videos from it.
[17:25:17] Sembiance: What feature of MythTV is allowing the PS3 to see it?
[17:25:17] visit0r: upnp
[17:26:08] Sembiance: Basically I can play most videos, but none of the sound comes through, probably because MythTV is using a codec that the PS3 doesn't support.
[17:26:25] Sembiance: So I'm trying to research what codec I need and where in mythtv I can change what codec the sound is stored in (hopefully WITHOUT transcoding)
[17:26:35] Sembiance: but I guess the latter depends on video source
[17:26:51] clever: i think you can transcode without affecting the video track
[17:27:44] clever: Sembiance: what is your current card to record with?
[17:28:00] Sembiance: clever: I have four HDTV signals from two HDHomeRun boxes and I have two PVR 250 cards.
[17:28:23] clever: ahh
[17:28:45] Sembiance: clever: How did the PS3 auto detect and play content from mythbackend? I'm very curious. I'm guessing it's some sort of 'standard' MythTV implements. I tried searching online, but all I get are results on how to run Myth ON a playstation rather than how the communication between the two works :)
[17:28:49] clever: try playing recordings from both sources and see if they are all deaf?
[17:29:06] clever: mythtv has a upnp server(universal plug and play)

[17:29:22] Sembiance: ahhh cool
[17:29:31] clever: any upnp video player can play from it
[17:30:17] clever: how is the sound getting into the PVR 250 card?
[17:30:46] Sembiance: clever: The PVR 250 card just takes coax cable.
[17:30:52] clever: ahh
[17:31:17] clever: hardware encoder?
[17:31:39] Sembiance: okay, I re-tried the playing of video/sound
[17:31:50] Sembiance: it looks like the PVR250 recordings work fine, video+sound. sorry about the confusion

[17:33:48] Hilikus: do i need to configure my fstab to mount automatically my mp3 player (usb mass storage)?? i heard ubuntu would mount it automatically but it doest

[17:33:54] Dibblah: Google is quite good, I've heard ;)
[17:34:00] Dibblah: Ah, right.
[17:34:02] clever: or transcode the sound in myth afterwards to a diff codec
[17:34:05] Dibblah: Stick – Wrong end of ;)
[17:34:17] clever: Dibblah: i am googling some but i thought some1 who actualy has one might know

[17:35:29] Sembiance: Opening audio decoder: [liba52] AC3 decoding with liba52
[17:35:58] Sembiance: I don't have any option to change what it comes in as, so I guess I need to set up a transcode
[17:36:00] clever: yeah that was my guess since you can also stream ac3 right out the digital port on some sound cards
[17:36:08] clever: so it stays digital right to the speakers nearly
[17:36:21] Sembiance: hrm... last time I tried having MythTV transcode HDTV video I ended up with horrible sound sync issues :)
[17:36:28] Sembiance: that was months ago though, probably been fixed by now

[17:56:00] tcpsyn: could be automatic after each recording
[17:56:17] Sembiance: I wanted to be able to record 4 HDTV streams at once, and 2 standard def ones. So I had a hard time finding a box with a good motherboard and 6 PCI slots
[17:56:33] Sembiance: I didn't want to split up into multiple machines, so the HDHomerun is worth the price for me :)

[17:57:40] tcpsyn: I only tried it on a few recordings
[17:57:43] tcpsyn: just to get it to work
[17:57:51] tcpsyn: could have been specific to those
[17:57:59] tcpsyn: but I've set it up that I run it manually.
[17:58:04] tcpsyn: from the recording menu
[17:58:20] Sembiance: tcpsyn: so what exactly is the command doing? Do you run that ahead of time? is that making another file that's converted to a different container?
[17:58:20] mindframe_: i think im going to get this for my mythbox: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127028
[17:58:58] tcpsyn: that's copying the source file to a tmp file while converting the container to mpeg2-ps, then it overwrites the source file with the tmp file.
[17:59:20] Sembiance: tcpsyn: hrm...
[17:59:35] clever: if setup as a userjob within myth then you can start it from the frontend(or mark it to run on its own on things after they record)
[17:59:45] tcpsyn: sembiance, it's a hack.
[18:00:21] tcpsyn: Some people reported sucess just using mythtranscode's lossless transcoding.
[18:00:27] tcpsyn: that's supposed to change the container.
[18:00:36] tcpsyn: But it still wouldn't play back on the ps3 for me.
[18:01:05] tcpsyn: I've also noticed that the ps3 won't play back mp3s from mythmusic with the myth upnp server, although if I use mediatomb as a upnp server, it will.
[18:01:58] Sembiance: tcpsyn: hrm! this is all very exciting. I just got this PS3 (along with a 1080p projector) and was thinking I'd have to spend more $$$ on a computer capable of outputing 1080p to my projector. Now I'm thinking maybe I can just use my PS3 instead :)

[18:08:16] gileswwwrk: If I have a mythtv backend can it decode h264 hd content then stream it to my frontend as mpeg2?
[18:08:23] tcpsyn: I only bought the ps3 because it boasted media center capability.

[18:08:34] tcpsyn: I didn't realize they got restrictive about what formats.

[20:33:40] directhex: ah, svn
[20:35:19] dolcraith: yeah.
[20:35:47] dolcraith: i mean there shouldn't really be a difference, right? i mean in regards to upnp
[20:37:57] directhex: i think there are major differences, actually
[20:38:20] dolcraith: really?
[20:39:31] dolcraith: do you suggest i hit up #myth? or would be tempting fate
[20:40:07] GreyFoxx: That channel is for development talk, not bug reports or suppor qyestions
[20:40:39] dolcraith: well does anyone here think they can elaborate on the differences
[20:40:46] directhex: the fact that there are pins at all is a pretty big hint that 0.20 upnp is different to svn upnp
[20:41:13] GreyFoxx: no, the pin is just for getting remote access to the mysql login info, not needed for accessing the content
[20:41:33] dolcraith: yeah, i always thought that was a mythtv specific feature
[20:41:47] GreyFoxx: but certainly tyhere are underlying code differences
[20:42:01] GreyFoxx: But most of the upnp changes have been syncd to 0.20.2
[20:42:10] dolcraith: i'm just trying to find out what other people did so i can get it working
[20:42:47] directhex: ffdshow, haali, that was it
[20:42:52] GreyFoxx: I've never used vista, can't even guess
[20:43:12] dolcraith: well i was trying the same thing under xp with the same problem
[20:43:25] dolcraith: he'll brb
[20:43:35] GreyFoxx: I use nero under xp to access the upnp content
[20:44:09] directhex: WMP11 works for me, with 0.20.2 backend

[20:47:13] dolcraith: showing*
[20:48:21] dolcraith: i mean if its a mythtv issue it needs to be fixed, but if its a wmp11 issue someone needs to call microsoft out on it imho
[20:48:42] GreyFoxx: dolcraith: Microsoft has several upnp quirks

[22:48:09] clever: and myth chose to air the one on channel 2
[22:48:19] clever: but 2 has a poor signal
[22:48:36] clever: but it was simple to reduce the prio on channel 2 to make it perfer 6
[22:48:38] sebrock: anyway, goodnight everybody

[23:13:12] shaggyoaf: Hi, everybody. I've got an old P3 dual-500Mhz system with 128M of memory
[23:13:23] shaggyoaf: can anybody recommend a MythTV distro?
[23:13:32] shaggyoaf: I'm not having lots of luck with feisty and the myth packages
[23:13:35] mzb_d800: debian lenny ;)
[23:14:02] shaggyoaf: mzb_d800, is that going to be very different from ubuntu feisty?
[23:14:05] mzb_d800: but you might want to consider another 128MB RAM
[23:14:06] mzb_d800: yes
[23:14:09] shaggyoaf: yeah, I know
[23:14:11] mzb_d800: less crap
[23:14:18] shaggyoaf: but at the moment, my remote doesn't really work
[23:14:30] shaggyoaf: and I'm loath to spend more money on this thing until I can prove that the remote will work
[23:14:41] mzb_d800: my p3–650 works alright with it
[23:15:11] ** shaggyoaf nods **
[23:15:15] shaggyoaf: I'll try it, thanks
[23:15:19] mzb_d800: but you really want either: 1. a framegrabber on another (fast) machine, or 2. a card that does mpeg2
[23:15:32] shaggyoaf: I've got a WinPVR-150
[23:15:37] shaggyoaf: (hauppage)
[23:15:43] shaggyoaf: so that bit shouldn't be a problem
[23:15:44] mzb_d800: that's a framegrabber, right?
[23:15:47] shaggyoaf: yeah
[23:15:52] shaggyoaf: and an mpeg2 encoder
[23:15:57] mzb_d800: ah, k
[23:16:18] mzb_d800: get yourself a fairly recent lenny netinst
[23:16:29] mzb_d800: (handy if you've got an apt-cacher setup;)
[23:16:39] ** shaggyoaf nods **
[23:16:50] mzb_d800: and only install absolute minimum
[23:17:08] shaggyoaf: mzb_d800, so I should just get standard lenny and then put myth packages on it?
[23:17:11] mzb_d800: if you're not building from source, you'll need to add marillat's repo
[23:17:19] shaggyoaf: eeew
[23:17:25] mzb_d800: (debian-multimedia.org?)
[23:17:33] shaggyoaf: I don't mind building from source
[23:18:42] mzb_d800: it doesn't hurt to add marillat ... makes the following easier:
[23:18:52] mzb_d800: # apt-get install build-dep mythtv
[23:18:55] mzb_d800: ;)
[23:19:04] shaggyoaf: heh, yeah
[23:19:06] shaggyoaf: I'll bet
[23:19:23] shaggyoaf: but iirc, marillat comes in at <1kbps
[23:19:28] shaggyoaf: could take days
[23:19:55] mzb_d800: regardless, doing a build-dep (most likely) won't be downloading from marillat
[23:20:32] mzb_d800: you only need the package list (and the details for myth* packages)
[23:23:40] mzb_d800: tuner test ... cross fingers
[23:26:30] shaggyoaf: so I recall at one point being able to either cat a device or tail -f a file and see all the key-presses from my remote
[23:26:37] shaggyoaf: does anybody know what I might be talking about
[23:26:48] shaggyoaf: I can cat /dev/lirc0 and see the garbage on the screen if lircd isn't running
[23:27:05] mzb_d800: irw ?
[23:27:09] shaggyoaf: but I remember seeing things like "num-1" and "chan_up" somewhere
[23:27:15] shaggyoaf: irw sounds familiar, thanks
[23:27:42] shaggyoaf: alright!
[23:27:45] shaggyoaf: that was the one!
[23:27:59] shaggyoaf: so according to irw, all my buttons are mapped correctly
[23:28:30] shaggyoaf: but my myth front-end doesn't seem to respond to them correctly
[23:28:47] jeffery: how do I map the "[" and "]" keys to my volume ?
[23:28:50] shaggyoaf: It listens to my my left-right-up-down keys but not my chan-up chan-down keys
[23:29:21] shaggyoaf: can somebody point me to something that'll help me understand how to map lirc/irw events to Myth functions?
[23:32:46] mzb_d800: jeffery: google mythtv keybindings (mythweb is an easy way)
[23:33:21] mzb_d800: shaggyoaf: check ~/.lircrc and ~/.mythtv/lircrc (I just have both of those linked)
[23:34:49] shaggyoaf: ahhh, ok
[23:35:01] shaggyoaf: mzb, know where I can find a reasonable starter for those files?
[23:39:08] mzb_d800: lirc.org ?
[23:39:13] mzb_d800: or the mythtv wiki

[23:40:06] black_Nightmare_: I know this probably is OT heh but anyone know if 12V is usually only for drives or the motherboard uses 12V as well? (as in from the psu)
[23:40:53] mzb_d800: hmm .. p3–650 might have to go back to overclock ... not quite fast enough when acting as a backend at the same time

[23:43:39] mzb_d800: what are you trying to achieve?
[23:43:50] mzb_d800: brb
[23:44:43] black_Nightmare_: about the theriocal maximum (and a bit more to be safe) 12V rail I'll need compared to the several itx dc-dc power supply options
[23:48:01] black_Nightmare_: now thats the funny thing, almost the entire time you're left to your own when it comes to figuring out ampres by each seperate voltage rails .. you know (like I mean say you have two 400W psu but one actually has 8A on one rail compared to other having 12A on same rail .. *sigh* go figure!)
[23:48:26] foxhunt (foxhunt!n=Richard@cazadelzorro.demon.nl) has quit (Remote closed the connection)
[23:50:39] black_Nightmare_: having a quiet power supply could be interesting if I decide that one of the itx offering are compactible and I feel like ordering one but otherwise I guess I could always just take other alternative and mod my existing psu

[23:56:12] mzb_d800: are you looking for higher voltage or current?
[23:57:03] mzb_d800: Dad modified an old PC supply for me a few years ago for use as a bench supply ... 13.8V ... but not something to be approached by a novice!

[23:57:49] black_Nightmare_: err..mind my spelling me think
[23:58:56] mzb_d800: hmm ... @650 I get 98% (on a good day;) for tv playback, @804 I get 58% .... *sigh*
[23:59:05] black_Nightmare_: the itx offers are 60/80/120/145/200W ones and well mine old psu has always been running well considering its not even loaded much at all (its a 250W anyhow)
[23:59:21] mzb_d800: let's see if I get the "burps" again :|
[23:59:30] black_Nightmare_: one thing about itx dc-dc over the existing atx psu is...its WAY much smaller :))
[23:59:33] black_Nightmare_: heh
[23:59:50] mzb_d800: and designed for boards that use less power
[23:59:58] black_Nightmare_: not quite entirely true
