[00:00:52] Spicerun: Hello. I can't compile mythtv-0.20.2. I keep getting qt_display() is not global in scope errors? Anyone know what I'm missing on my system?

[00:04:04] directhex: Spicerun, qt3 development libs?
[00:04:35] Spicerun: directhex: I believe so, as supplied by gentoo.
[00:04:49] Spicerun: But I'll recheck it.
[00:04:56] directhex: Spicerun, qt3. not 4. please double-check
[00:05:11] Spicerun: directhex: Definitely qt3 (3.3.8)
[00:06:46] directhex: doesn't 3.3.8 have some massive bug in it? let me check
[00:08:20] directhex: ubuntu certainly abandoned 3.3.8, and reverted to 3.3.7
[00:08:59] Spicerun: directhex: Ok, I'll check into that, and revert my own then. Thanks.
[00:10:47] leprechau: hrm...my mythtv on my arch box is compiled against 3.3.8

[15:01:01] johnadsfsdfdf: im having a problem with mythtv, everytime i rewind during a recording it crashes when i get to the beginning... any ideas?
[15:02:33] sphery: Technically, it's "-O ThemePainter=qt", though with the capital Q in QT it would work, but only as a side-effect because though Qt isn't recognized, qt is the default for when a bad value is provided... The dash capital Oh is mandatory, though.
[15:03:21] sphery: adante: Really, though, you should /only/ use a command-line override if you broke your config to the point you can't run the frontend to change the setting.
[15:03:37] sphery: adante: Then, use the override to run the frontend, then go to settings and change the setting correctly.
[15:03:57] sphery: adante: Note, also, that's only the OpenGL used in the menus. It's not the OpenGL used during playback.
[15:04:17] sphery: johnadsfsdfdf: LiveTV or a recording?
[15:04:49] johnadsfsdfdf: a recording
[15:06:12] sphery: johnadsfsdfdf: no ideas then... I was going to say I'm not surprised if it's instability in LiveTV, but in recordings it shouldn't crash.
[15:06:24] adante: sphery: unfortunately, opengl on my system is broken for varios hilarious reasons, so while i rebuild my kernel to get that working again i'm just trying to fix mythtv on the side
[15:06:43] sphery: johnadsfsdfdf: The technically correct answer is http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-22.html#ss22.2 , but compiling a debug-enabled build may not be what you want to do.
[15:07:55] adante: sphery: okay, i tried running with -O ThemePainter=Qt, it is still now showing any menus
[15:08:27] sphery: now = not?
[15:08:44] sphery: no icons or just no text
[15:08:55] johnadsfsdfdf: sphery: i was having some problems with opengl, but i think i got them all fixed... it was a driver issue with my video card

[15:09:10] adante: actually sorry correction it is, just a bit slow
[15:09:48] adante: okay, is there a way to specify a channels.conf to import channels in? mythtv does not seem to scan them correctly

[21:01:51] siXy: _mre|666: 1). dont ask to ask, or poll for activity. just ask. 2). is this really a mythtv question?
[21:01:56] _mre|666: ok... i got myth installed as a frontend
[21:02:01] _mre|666: it only runs as root
[21:02:07] _mre|666: won't run as a normal user
[21:02:13] _mre|666: i know it's permission based
[21:02:24] siXy: _mre|666: man chmod and man chown
[21:02:24] _mre|666: just need to know the dirs to chmod
[21:02:52] siXy: _mre|666: varies. often /usr/share/mythtv
[21:02:53] _mre|666: yeah... i know how to chmod and chown... just need to know the dirs :P
[21:03:07] _mre|666: sixxy: db usually in there too?
[21:03:15] siXy: do find / -type d -name 'mythtv*' if its not there
[21:03:49] siXy: _mre|666: the frontend connects to the mysql on the backend. it doesnt need a local db if the backend is a seperate machine.
[21:04:05] _mre|666: well
[21:04:10] _mre|666: the backend is on the same machine
[21:04:16] _mre|666: i have the loopback as the ip for that
[21:04:22] _mre|666: but it's acting strange
[21:04:40] siXy: as for where mysql is likely to be installed – that varies massively by distro/os. find / -type d -name 'mysql'
[21:04:48] _mre|666: yeah
[21:04:51] _mre|666: it's deb
[21:05:16] _mre|666: other than that it works great
[21:05:24] siXy: that should be running as user mysql
[21:05:34] siXy: and you shouldnt need to change that
[21:05:34] _mre|666: Weather and news addon doesn't work too well
[21:05:42] _mre|666: yeah...
[21:05:57] _mre|666: but should the backend run as root?
[21:06:00] siXy: _mre|666: weather and news were flaky last time i tried them. ymmv
[21:06:01] _mre|666: i have to execute the backend
[21:06:13] siXy: yeah the backend really wants to run as root
[21:06:15] _mre|666: sixxy: only thing the works well is the doplar
[21:06:18] _mre|666: ok
[21:06:28] _mre|666: then it's the frontend running as root that needs to be fixed
[21:07:02] _mre|666: wonder if i should make a crontab to run that backend at boot
[21:07:05] _mre|666: probably would be smart
[21:07:27] siXy: _mre|666: cronjob to run on boot??!
[21:07:32] siXy: no dont do that :)
[21:07:41] siXy: best thing is an initscript
[21:07:53] _mre|666: yeah... that's not a bad idea
[21:07:53] siXy: failing that rc.local or equivalent
[21:08:03] _mre|666: yeah... crontab would probably be bad
[21:08:24] _mre|666: ok... i'm going to try this

[22:22:36] baxter_kylie: siXy: Well when it just scans songs in a directory structure it populates mythconverge.music_songs with pseudo metadata
[22:23:01] baxter_kylie: siXy: But there are several (six or seven if memory serves me) tables that look like they're related to mythmusic.
[22:23:32] janneg: baxter_kylie: the tables are prefixed with music
[22:23:44] siXy: baxter_kylie: ah ok i'm wrong then

[22:26:52] baxter_kylie: janneg: Yes, I saw that some are but there is, as noted, a lot of redundancy if you look at their fields and it seems to me that not all of those tables are actually being used.
[22:26:59] gbee: can't remember whether the mythmusic table structure changed before or after 0.20 was released, but currently in trunk it uses music_songs, music_albums, music_artists, music_genre(s), music_directories and probably a couple that I'm forgetting right now
[22:28:23] gbee: baxter_kylie: if you've extra tables then they are probably from an earlier version and have yet to be culled (we keep old tables around for at least one version for people who want to revert from new to old releases)

[22:33:47] gbee: none of the tables I just listed should have redundant fields, except possibly music_songs, after the structure was changed all artist/album/genre metadata was split into seperate tables and then cross referenced using albumid, artistid, genreid etc
[22:34:14] gbee: i.e. the data was normalised
[22:35:07] gbee: but as I say, I'm not 100% sure those changes were made before 0.20 was released and I'm too busy to check right now

[22:40:13] baxter_kylie: gbee: It's okay. I understand (I'm a DBM). Music_songs does have some redundancies and I know it's filled when it tries to pull metadata from filenames while the rest of it remains empty. Where I stand, right now, is at a crux because it doesn't read my flac metadata properly. I had thought to write a short python script to fill the db on my own but if the tables change at the next version then I might not want to. :-/

[22:43:04] gbee: baxter_kylie: IF I get time before 0.21 is released and it's a big if, then I want to replace the flac tag reader with taglib (as I've already done for id3 tags in mp3s) – that should fix any problems you are having, unless the reason you are having problems is due to non-standard use of the tags?
[22:45:11] siXy: tafryn: no remote with that particular card.
[22:45:39] siXy: pvr-XXX-mce cards have no remote
[22:45:43] tafryn: No, I'm pretty sure the remote I'm holding just came out of that box
[22:45:45] siXy: the pvr-xxx cards do
[22:45:57] siXy: then you didnt buy a -mce card
[22:46:06] siXy: or if you did you got lucky and they shipped the wrong thing
[22:46:11] tafryn: It shows it there in the pictures on newegg...
[22:46:35] siXy: tafryn: and that means?
[22:46:51] tafryn: That it does, in fact, come with that card?
[22:47:12] baxter_kylie: gbee: I have *limited* nonstandard tag usage (just [SUBALBUM] really). But different ideologies exist between [TRACK]/[TRACKNUMBER] and [DISC]/[DISCNUMBER] so it's always a tossup. Few applications read both and just set up a heirarchy to one or the other. Coming from Foobar I use *NUMBER.
[22:47:22] siXy: ...
[22:47:27] siXy: if you say so
[22:47:45] tafryn: Well they were in the same shrinkwrapped box at least
[22:48:13] siXy: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/products/data_pvr150mce.html
[22:48:26] siXy: no remote listed in the specs. but fine you know best
[22:49:17] tafryn: Indeed, perhaps my box is from an older set of MCE cards
[22:49:33] tafryn: Not too unlikely considering it came from newegg
[22:50:08] tafryn: Anyway, all I wanted to know is if anyone knew which driver to use with lirc. Thanks anyway channel.
[22:51:09] gbee: baxter_kylie: ok, well I can't be too much help on the subject of flac tags as I don't know much about them yet – if someone can remember, or has time to check that schema changes occurred before 0.20 was released, then you should be ok to write that script – it's pretty simple, albums in the album table etc

[22:51:15] siXy: tafryn: if it looks like a microsoft remote, use the mce-usb2 driver. if it looks like a hauppage remote see lirc.org for further insturctions
[22:51:26] siXy: for picutres of what they look like, google
[22:52:19] gbee: there were additional schema changes recently in trunk (well 6 months ago), but nothing that should break a script inserting metadata too badly
[22:53:48] gbee: siXy: heh, it looks like both since it's Hauppague's version of the MCE remote – should use the same codes as the MCE remote though since it's aimed at working out of the box with MCE
[22:53:50] baxter_kylie: gbee: Seems so. Thank you for your time. I'll probably just use mutagen for my tag library. (By the by, knowing a thing or two about it... flac's can use ID3 but it's nonstandard, traditionally they're vorbis tags so there are no restrictions only loosely accepted standard ways of using them unlike ID3)

[23:46:30] eugo: and ofcourse, the cheapest solution
[23:47:35] Der_Thomas: Well the CHEAPEST solution would be to use your regular desktop for a combined FE/BE and connect it to your TV. Before I built my FE I did this and just ran long cables to my TV
[23:48:01] Der_Thomas: I had an icon on my desktop that would switch my card to TV out and start mythfe

[23:51:48] Der_Thomas: but if you are trying to recoed a program, and watch live tv on three FEs with different stations, you'll need 4 tuner cards (or 2 PVR-500s with 2 tuners in each)

[23:52:47] [miles]: morning
[23:52:57] Der_Thomas: morning
[23:53:01] eugo: lets say i have two digital decoders (i actually only have one), putting two tv-capture cards in the backend, and only one tv-out card in each frontend, wouldnt that work?
[23:53:28] eugo: that would allow each frontend to see both backend tv streams, right?
[23:53:30] Der_Thomas: yep
[23:53:58] [miles]: guys, I'm migrating from Kaffine with DVB-S to Myth-TV... one thing I am trying to get sorted is have the deinterlacing the same (superb) quality as what it was in kaffine, but replicated in myth....
[23:54:06] [miles]: http://pastebin.org/5772
[23:54:21] [miles]: is the kaffine settings for it, could this be replicated in myth please?
[23:54:35] Der_Thomas: but if both FEs were being used to watch live TV and you had something scheduled to be recorded, you would either have to cancel the recording or stop watching live TV

[23:54:41] Der_Thomas: (on one of the FEs)
[23:54:56] eugo: hmm ok
[23:55:12] Cyberai: Hey, is SD or TMS down? I can't retrieve my channel listings in mythtv-setup/inputs
[23:55:41] Cyberai: I keep getting "401 Unauthorized", but I haven't changed anything
[23:56:23] Der_Thomas: I have just one FE and I only have 1 card and I am ALWAYS wishing a had a second card because I keep getting interupted in live TV saying that I have a recording comming up
[23:57:25] eugo: my digital reciever does the channel-changing on the reciever itself, so i can only watch a fixed station or change station using the decoder-remote. wouldn't this disable any pvr-functionalities?
[23:57:27] Der_Thomas: [miles]: I'm digging for what I think you need give me a second
[23:57:59] Der_Thomas: eugo: no it would still work
[23:58:11] [miles]: :-) many thanks Der_Thomas
[23:58:41] eugo: i imagine you would have to add a infrared-sender to the backend, so it can control what channel is on by itself, right?
[23:59:08] Der_Thomas: eugo: ah yes, sorry I though tthat is what you had
