[00:19:35] Der_Thomas: hey, anyone know why mythgallery is resizing my pictures to a 1:1 ratio? Everyone looks really skinny :~)
[00:19:37] Esotericisms: ok I just moved to new a new area, so I have a new line up ... how do I get my existing recording schedules setup on the new channels and import the new listings
[00:19:40] Esotericisms: whats the best way?
[00:20:04] Der_Thomas: I can't seem to find anything in the setup
[00:20:47] Esotericisms: anyone?
[00:21:19] Der_Thomas: Eso, sorry I have no idea
[00:21:50] my2keh: Esotericisms>> you use schedules direct?
[00:21:52] Der_Thomas: I would guess that if your new channels have the same name as the old it might work
[00:23:22] Esotericisms: yes, I know how to setup a new listing through them
[00:23:27] Esotericisms: but I am talking about on myth tv
[00:23:38] my2keh: mythfilldatabase
[00:23:43] my2keh: --help
[00:24:06] Esotericisms: my2keh, that won't have a problem even though it has listings for a different location?
[00:24:18] my2keh: hence the "--help" :)
[00:24:29] Esotericisms: hrm I will have to take a look later it seems :0
[00:24:30] Esotericisms: thanks
[00:24:31] my2keh: if you've reconfigured the SD side
[00:24:39] my2keh: it should now download the new lineup
[00:24:56] Esotericisms: correct, but my scheduled programs won't match cause they are using the old lineup
[00:25:00] Der_Thomas: hey has anyone here used Mupen64 for Nintendo64 ROMS?

[00:26:12] Esotericisms: ah but that is what I say on most of mine :(
[00:26:31] Esotericisms: looks like I might have to reenter everything manually :(
[00:26:41] my2keh: ahh
[00:26:47] my2keh: I usually say record on any channel

[00:35:39] my2keh: HDMI
[00:35:45] my2keh: well dvi -> HDMI
[00:36:00] Dr_willis: i thought the dvi stuff was supposed to be able to 'tell the pc' the proper settings to use.
[00:36:14] my2keh: yeah, sometimes through EDID

[00:42:41] mzb_d800: scp?
[00:42:42] my2keh: tzanger>>> you can just copy the file

[00:43:05] tzanger: ahh
[00:43:27] tzanger: interesting... I can run a sql query to find out which mpg files I want, copy them and hten run rebuild on the laptop to bring htem 'in'
[00:43:47] my2keh: yup

[00:47:48] my2keh: no prob
[00:48:13] my2keh: is VGA better then DVI/HDMI
[00:48:15] my2keh: ?
[00:48:32] degreseven: no
[00:49:15] my2keh: ok good
[00:49:18] degreseven: dvi / hdmi are much better
[00:49:31] my2keh: do you know what dot clock frequency is?
[00:51:10] Tanthrix: In theory, DVI/HDMI is better than VGA. In practice, it sometimes is not, or makes no appreciable difference.

[00:52:01] my2keh: wait cheaper=1366x768?
[00:52:02] my2keh: heh
[00:52:06] my2keh: that's what mine is!
[00:52:12] Tanthrix: Sort of ;)
[00:52:15] my2keh: but I can't get 1366x768...
[00:52:21] my2keh: BAH it cost me $2000 heh
[00:52:35] Tanthrix: Did you buy it very recently?
[00:52:42] my2keh: uhh huh
[00:52:49] Tanthrix: Like, can still return it recently?
[00:52:56] my2keh: uhh i dunno, why?
[00:52:58] kolby: hey guys, how do I reconfigure my mysql package/
[00:53:18] BULLE: kolby: that would be linux distribution dependent
[00:53:19] Tanthrix: my2keh: Well, I mean, you can get native 1080P lcd sets for under $1500 now in the 42 inch range.
[00:53:24] my2keh: lcd
[00:53:26] my2keh: bah
[00:53:28] my2keh: sucks
[00:53:33] my2keh: 50" plasma
[00:53:36] my2keh: mucho better
[00:53:44] BULLE: my2keh: of course, but also costs mucho more
[00:53:52] kolby: BULLE: mkay.
[00:54:02] BULLE: my2keh: its not that strange that you get way better picture and larger screen if you pay more
[00:54:08] kolby: I got a 42" plasma for 800$ at a local Sears
[00:54:15] Tanthrix: I would disagree very much. Plasma sets have much lower resolutions. When compared to a good LCD they are rubbish.
[00:54:31] BULLE: Tanthrix: thats also pure bs
[00:54:31] mzb_d800: my2keh: you probably don't need to worry about dot-clocks unless you're using a matrox card with tv-out
[00:54:38] my2keh: you ever seen an LCD on an angle? bloowss
[00:54:39] Tanthrix: Half of them look like old CRT sets. I mean 1366x768 on a 50 inch set? That's insane.
[00:54:40] BULLE: Tanthrix: lcd and plasma have different strengths
[00:54:48] BULLE: my2keh: new high end ones doesnt
[00:54:53] my2keh: mzb_d800>>> how do you know if I'm using a matrox card?
[00:55:12] mzb_d800: because you don't have to worry about it with nvidia
[00:55:16] my2keh: ahh ok
[00:55:26] BULLE: Tanthrix: so get one with a native resolution that handles 1080p then
[00:55:32] Tanthrix: my2keh: That is much less of a problem on newer sets. Anyway, when I watch TV, I tend to sit in front of it, not 180 degrees off to the side.
[00:55:42] mzb_d800: but with a matrox card you have to perform a few back-flips to calculate the right modelines, et al
[00:55:54] my2keh: ahh well our living room configuration doesn't allow for a "dead center" view
[00:55:57] BULLE: main issue with lcd, imho, is black levels, response time and color
[00:56:05] my2keh: anyways! I like my TV
[00:56:06] my2keh: :)
[00:56:18] BULLE: imho plasma still beats lcd there
[00:56:22] Tanthrix: Response time isn't really an issue anymore, but black levels certainly are.
[00:56:44] my2keh: so I just generated my own mode line
[00:56:51] my2keh: I should do Modes "1360x765@60i" right?
[00:56:55] BULLE: Tanthrix: oh it still is, atleast if you watch fast moving hd stuff, then nearly all of the 1080p lcds get blurry, to the point where the extra resolution gets lost
[00:57:04] BULLE: my2keh: totaly depends on the screen
[00:57:04] my2keh: in the Screen display section?
[00:57:19] mzb_d800: I have 35yo 59cm and 3yo 51cm TV's ... hard to read fonts at times, and hard(er) to setup
[00:57:31] mzb_d800: (if you don't have S-Video or better)
[00:57:47] Tanthrix: BULLE: What you're describing is motion blur, not ghosting. You will not notice ghosting on a 6ms set (that is actually 6ms) or below.
[00:58:07] BULLE: Tanthrix: nah, there are a few lcds out there that are fast enough
[00:58:20] my2keh: dang it! says "1360x765@60i" wasn't valid
[00:58:27] my2keh: I copied it down right from the timings website
[00:58:28] BULLE: Tanthrix: there is no 6ms set available, the numbers you see are optimum numbers, that you never observe in real life
[00:58:32] my2keh: Modeline "1360x765@60i" 37.87 1360 1392 1528 1560 765 782 787 805 interlace
[00:58:39] jhulst (jhulst!n=jhulst@unaffiliated/jhulst) has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[00:58:39] BULLE: Tanthrix: the response time depends on what color the pixel has, and what color it should move to
[00:58:48] BULLE: Tanthrix: its not a single value, but a whole darn response curve
[00:58:49] mzb_d800: lcd's with the Australian panels are quite quick (O2?)
[00:59:15] BULLE: Tanthrix: also depends on what type of lcd panel you use etc, that in turn reflect in color accuracy etc
[00:59:20] BULLE: its a hornets nest realy
[00:59:57] Tanthrix: BULLE: I am aware of this. The same thing applies for contrast ratios and etc.. The fact remains though that I do not notice ghosting on my Aquos in any amount. I have tested this with games and a flash test I made a while back.
[01:00:01] my2keh: AHHHHHHHHHH
[01:00:15] mzb_d800: my2keh: ignore edip option available? (iirc)
[01:00:35] BULLE: Tanthrix: aquos, that is sharp, right ?
[01:01:02] BULLE: Tanthrix: sharp is perhaps the best panel manufacturer there is, so if you got the right model, then indeed, you might have a 1080p native res lcd that shows very little ghosting
[01:01:11] Tanthrix: Where as if you pause nearly any video during a frame that shows motion you'll likely see significant blur, having nothing to do with the set. That is a simple by product of modern photography. You need light, and when you don't have enough, you need to bump the shutter speed down or the aperture up.
[01:01:19] my2keh: I have ignoreedid =false
[01:01:21] Tanthrix: And 1/60s is not fast enough to stop motion, not even close.
[01:01:30] kormoc: or it's caused by compression
[01:01:35] Tanthrix: That too.
[01:01:45] BULLE: Tanthrix: its easy to just to split the picture and send it to a crt and the lcd, or a fast plasma and a lcd
[01:01:50] BULLE: Tanthrix: then you can see it pretty easily
[01:01:59] mzb_d800: ah, I was thinking of: ModeValidation: NoMaxPClkCheck
[01:02:07] Tanthrix: But until we get some magic new CCDs that are capable of doing much higher sensitivity or some magical new super speed film, we're going to be dealing with motion blur for quite some time.

[01:02:17] mzb_d800: (I think it's an nvidia-specific setting, not sure)
[01:02:40] BULLE: Tanthrix: sure, but im not talking about motion blur generated at camera, im talkign about screen
[01:02:56] mzb_d800: combined with "UseEdidDpi" "false" in monitor
[01:03:07] leprechau (leprechau!i=charlie@c-71-228-201-48.hsd1.tn.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:03:10] BULLE: neither plasma or lcd is supperior, they have their strengths and weaknesses
[01:03:13] BULLE: pick what you like the most
[01:03:14] mzb_d800: (needed for my FP222W to get max res)
[01:03:25] Tanthrix: BULLE: And I'm making the claim that ghosting (screen generated blur) is so minamal on even 1 year old LCD sets that everytime people complain about blur they are confusing motion blur for actual ghosting
[01:03:26] kormoc: Tanthrix, uhh, there's ccds that will do ~200 fps at 1080p and film that does almost 1000 fps
[01:03:49] BULLE: Tanthrix: i doubt a 1 year old lcd has 1080p native resolution even .......
[01:03:51] crichardson: anyone here ever done anything with a pinnacle PCTV HD w/Conexant chipset?
[01:04:02] my2keh: stupid thing
[01:04:09] Tanthrix: kormoc: I guess I should have said cheap and common, not just possible ;)
[01:04:09] my2keh: how does it know that my mode isn't valid!
[01:04:16] ** Tanthrix salivates at the thought of owning a high speed camera **
[01:04:24] kormoc: Tanthrix, you should also know, response time was changed recently, it used to be the time between black to white to black, they now use mid grey to white to mid grey, so times have been inflated recently
[01:04:30] kormoc: heh
[01:05:14] Tanthrix: I am also aware of this, but none of this changes the fact that ghosting is very hard to notice on recent-ish sets, and almost every single time someone complains it ends up being motion blur.
[01:05:37] Tanthrix: That's one of the problems with HD video – motion blur pops out a lot more. Very distracting actually sometimes.
[01:05:57] ** kormoc shrugs **
[01:06:20] kormoc: I've seen motion blur on 720p sets when they play video games
[01:06:35] Tanthrix: You mean ghosting.
[01:06:48] kormoc: ghosting and blur are the same thing to me
[01:06:55] kormoc: it's still image persistance
[01:07:09] Tanthrix: Ghosting = blur caused by screen refresh latency. Motion blur = blur caused by a low shutter speed on a camera not stopping motion
[01:07:20] Tanthrix: One is the screen's fault, the other is not – a rather significant issue.
[01:07:24] my2keh: how about X rejecting modeline = ?
[01:07:24] my2keh: heh
[01:07:37] BULLE: Tanthrix: well, its pretty obvious that what kormoc sees, is not caused by shutter speed on a camera, when the video comes from a games console
[01:07:47] BULLE: Tanthrix: what you call it, then, isnt the point

[01:08:21] mzb_d800: then just pick your res, as long as the card+monitor can do it, it should work
[01:08:51] my2keh: ModeValidation?
[01:08:52] Tanthrix: BULLE: I never made the claim that you couldn't notice ghosting on LCDs when gaming, only that because motion blur exists in pretty much everything, it's usually much worse than any ghosting problems.
[01:09:20] Tanthrix: And hence, not worth going around complaining that lcds are crap because of ghosting in comparison to plasma.
[01:09:39] Dr_willis (Dr_willis!n=willis@74-140-6-108.dhcp.insightbb.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:09:44] Tanthrix: (Er, everything meaning everything video, not gaming, which doesn't have motion blur unless it's one of those new fangled games that does it on top)
[01:10:37] Tanthrix: So, in my opinion, LCDs are superior to plasma sets in everything but black level / contrast ratios (a not too insignificant thing,) and possibly gaming if you have a slightly older set.
[01:11:14] qfe0: I seem to be having intermittent problems recording with mythtv. I'm running into a problem where the wrong audio channel is being recorded (i.e. I'm recording CSI on CBS and something that sounds like Nova and PBS is recorded).

[01:14:31] qfe0: I'll have another look...
[01:14:33] mchou: in any case, TV will no longer be worth watching with the looming writers' strike.....
[01:14:48] mchou: we'll go back to reality TV
[01:15:49] Tanthrix: my2keh: Anyway, back to my original comment about 1366x768 resolutions. I only said they sucked because of the very problems that you're having – mainly the fact that the EDID spec cannot properly convey the resolution to your computer.
[01:16:10] mchou: back to the golden age of TV between 1998 and ~2004 :)
[01:16:24] Tanthrix: my2keh: End result is that you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to maybe get your system to output everything correctly at the native resolution. I'd recommend looking over the nvidia linux forum
[01:16:58] Tanthrix: my2keh: Do a search for "1366x768' and you'll find quite a few people with the same issues and about fifty different things you can do to maybe get it to work.
[01:18:27] my2keh: I saw some stuff on the multiple's of 8 stuff
[01:19:20] Tanthrix: Basically it cannot convey horizontal resolutions that are a multiple of 8. Little bit of an oversight, don't you think? ;)

[02:48:29] johnadsfsdfdf: with LVM if one drive fails, do i lose everything?... my understanding is there is a new feature in mythtv that allows you to combine separate drives without lvm

[02:49:18] tzanger: kormoc: fair enough, but I dunno
[02:49:18] johnadsfsdfdf: im not too concerned about losing the data.. thats secondary
[02:49:23] kormoc: johnadsfsdfdf, currently storage groups allow you to manually move stuff between them and myth will know about it
[02:49:25] tzanger: I wouldn't piss about iwth myth-specific stuff
[02:49:41] kormoc: one day it might be automatic, but it's not now
[02:49:52] johnadsfsdfdf: because some drives are new and some are old... and im worried about speed

[02:50:09] tzanger: johnadsfsdfdf: no
[02:50:17] kormoc: depends on the filesystem and how it puts the data down
[02:50:27] johnadsfsdfdf: i was thinking xfs, so i can expand

[03:08:26] Gumby: baxter_kylie, mythtv turns dpms back on whenever it stops livetv. Ive already tried commenting out dpms in xorg.conf as well as setting Option "dpms" "off"

[04:00:42] djc_: becuase a 99 cent item with $25 shipping is *not* less expensive than a similar item listed at $10 with $5 shipping
[04:01:20] mchou: they still have $5 shipping??? :)
[04:01:25] djc_: who?
[04:01:39] djc_: shipping amounts are set by the individual sellers

[04:04:56] mchou: no wonder you're postal
[04:05:08] djc_: heh
[04:05:47] djc_: what gets me is so many ebay sellers wont ship usps.. becuase they think they have to go to take their package to the post office and buy stamps
[04:06:26] djc_: not getting that they can pay online, get a paid shipping label, and have their package picked up by the same carrier that delivers their mail
[04:06:41] mchou: no, most dont ship USPS cause they afraid of no tracking
[04:06:49] xris: and no insurance
[04:06:56] djc_: insurance is available
[04:07:17] xris: but automatic with UPS/FedEx
[04:07:21] djc_: and usps offers 'delivery confirmation' which is sufficient to prove it was delivered, which i presume is the real interest

[04:08:23] djc_: you are still paying for it, its just built into the shipping cost, as opposed to being seperate where you can choose to get it or not
[04:08:30] xris: djc_: I know. my company has its own insurance rider so we specifically avoid the fedex/ups insurance.

[04:14:01] devsforev: Good evening everyone. Does anybody know if it is possible to password protect the -settings- page in MythWeb? I am able to password protect the entire MythWeb interface, but I have had significant difficulty trying to do the same for the settings page. Thanks in advance
[04:14:03] Gumby: (you dont have to respond to that)
[04:14:23] djc_: i dont think i ever heard from either of them again.. i ended up getting the parts i needed (some nuts and washers) from a local hardware
[04:16:12] djc_: personally i wish usps would offer virtualized mailing addresses, kinda like email aliases..
[04:16:44] djc_: so you could have a permanent mailing address, that wouldnt change even if you moved, and that didnt tell someone where you physically lived
[04:17:26] djc_: whats cool though, is if you need to send someone a SASE, there is a way to print it up so that you address isnt on it, but it will still get to you
[04:18:07] djc_: it does have to have your name on it though
[04:18:29] djc_: or something that your mail carrier will recognize that its legit for you
[04:20:25] Gumby: hrm, undorunately --refresh-all didnt repopulate the channel info. I'll try by deleting the info first this time

[04:24:02] djc_: /etc/init.d/mythweb start
[04:24:05] djc_: eg
[04:24:19] djc_: and that it actually was its own daemon
[04:24:42] djc_: as opposed to just cgi scripts
[04:24:55] devsforev: Yup. Looks like it works mostly with php
[04:25:35] djc_: i can do that.. just doesnt let me quick play with it now to see what it can do
[04:25:45] djc_: im not fucking around installing apache right now
[04:26:53] devsforev: I think I know what the problem is, but I don't know a workaround. I think apaches Auth directives only work when the webserver itself is accessing the directory. But because a PHP script drills deeper into subdirectories, an apache directive to block that lower subdirectory (in this case /mythweb/modules/settings) is ineffective. I could be mistaken tho
[04:28:28] djc_: as in, you want to protect *only* the settings page while leaving the rest open?
[04:28:46] djc_: or when you protect the whole interface, the settings is left unprotected?
[04:29:23] djc_: if the former, you'd probably need to hack the php code itself, if the settings page isnt in a special path all of its own
[04:29:25] devsforev: djc_: yeah. I only want the settings page protected. I want some users in my house to access the web interface, but not fsck up any of the important settings (channel ids, keybindings, etc)
[04:30:05] djc_: since I dont actually have a mythweb instance running, I couldnt tell you for sure ;)
[04:30:18] devsforev: no worries, thanks for the ideas though
[04:30:19] Gumby: devsforev, you could rename the php page something else so that the link doesnt work. hehe
[04:30:53] djc_: well, does it use seperate php files for the different pages, or is it something like http://blah/whatever/mythweb.php?page=settings
[04:31:02] djc_: or page=viewlistings etc
[04:31:04] devsforev: Gumby: lmao; that is actually not a bad idea itself... haha... But idealy, I would still like to access it when i need to
[04:31:22] djc_: if it is in fact a seperate file that you can rename,
[04:31:24] Gumby: devsforev, another idea... you could mirror mythweb to say mythweb-admin and then give that directory a different htaccess
[04:31:37] djc_: rename it to something that is a slight variation of the actual name, so that links to it dont work
[04:31:42] djc_: but you could hit the link,
[04:31:44] devsforev: djc_: Its a little hard to tell; it uses mod-rewrite
[04:31:48] djc_: and when you get the 404
[04:31:54] djc_: edit the url to be your variation
[04:32:10] djc_: not secure, by any means, but sufficient to prevent the average end-user for getting at it
[04:32:24] Gumby: I'd symlink settings.php to index.php that way the unsuspecting user just things its broken instead of a dead link. lol
[04:32:32] mzb_d800: just an update on a few of my issues: upgraded from gf2 mx400 to gf4 mx440 (set in 2x mode!;)
[04:32:55] djc_: yeah, first move settings.php to settingzappaboo.php or something
[04:33:01] mzb_d800: now mysterious flick often seen (looked like remnants of a popup menu) has gone
[04:33:03] djc_: then you go there directly from a bookmark or something
[04:33:12] devsforev: Gumby & djc_; Great ideas, haha. I think i'll end up using a combination of your ideas to make it work for me

[04:33:43] mzb_d800: but nvtv doesn't like this card, so having to use different method
[04:34:37] devsforev: Gumby: good idea. I already have a "private" virtual host on apache that only accepts connections from the local host. That way, I need to use ssh port forwarding to access the "private" folder
[04:35:06] Gumby: there might be an easier/proper way of doing what you need. But thats all beyond me. hehe.

[07:34:56] johnadsfsdfdf: how big of a swap space should i make
[07:37:28] kormoc: I've always wanted to see a petabyte swap partition, so I'll recommend that
[07:42:47] directhex|work: generally, ram plus a few meg is good, as it ensures you could use suspend-to-disk if you so chose
[07:47:02] johnadsfsdfdf: ok
[08:09:29] Cougar: when computers had up to 64MB RAM the rule of thumb was RAM x 2 and I still follow it if I use swap. In most time I don't
[08:10:44] directhex|work: by the time you've swapped 2 gig of ram to disk *twice*, you've got bigger problems
[08:11:18] directhex|work: quantities of memory have increased significantly, disk speeds haven't. swapping everything out is no longer acceptable, it takes too long
[08:11:57] Cougar: swap is anyway slow and you should use it only when there is no enough memory
[08:12:23] kormoc: you should always have a little, but too much is much worse
[08:12:38] kormoc: I typically keep 128 megs or so, and as a swap file, so I can grow it as needed (if needed)
[08:12:48] Cougar: I don't use swap at all in servers
[08:13:20] kormoc: I do. It's not worth say ssh getting OOM killed rather then swapped IMHO

[08:13:56] directhex|work: kormoc wins
[08:14:12] directhex|work: but suspend-to-disk requires at least swap == ram
[08:14:17] Cougar: kormoc: small spat doesn't help here much. big swap helps much more because your server is going to be slower and slower and memory hungry process can't kill our machine in a moment
[08:14:23] directhex|work: whether suspend to disk is useful for you is another matter
[08:14:33] Cougar: this is why I still use swap in some rare cases and especially big swap
[08:15:27] Cougar: susped-to-disk is another thing. if you have swap==RAM thene most probably there is some data in swap already and this is not enough for suspend any more ;-)
[08:15:35] kormoc: I don't like huge swaps due to the fact that it takes forever to recover. It is a balancing act, a down time of 10 minutes for it to recover a 16 gig swap fest isn't really an option for my stuff

[16:29:23] xris: if you want to get your browser to tread a download as a stream (the only real difference between downloading and streaming in this case is that the media player does the download, not the browser), you can probably hack the browser to do something like that, but I don't know how.
[16:30:05] sebrock: xris, streaming is supposed to allow the user to skip to any point within the file without a download
[16:30:13] sebrock: that's what I would like to do
[16:30:24] sebrock: and I thought that was a MIME-stuff-thingy
[16:30:35] xris: sebrock: no, that depends on the kind of stream, and whether or not the server supports partial downloads.

[16:46:31] iamlindoro: Hey everyone-- I just rebuild my backend from scratch this weekend... Upgraded from a Pentium D to a Core 2 Quad, increased RAM, nVidia 7600 series, etc... only two minor issues that I'm having trouble with... first is, when I first watch live TV, I get three or four NVP prbuffering pauses, which then disappear and don't come back, even when changing channels... just a minor annoyance. the other is, occasionally video overlay in Live TV and m
[16:46:31] iamlindoro: player becomes a gree screen with red artifacts, and can only be solved with an X restart... anyone seen either of these before? I have tried all of the xorg.conf tweaks for prebuffering pauses... it appears that it might be something besides an overall performance issue, as it only happens three or four times and then stops.

[17:31:04] iamlindoro: Andycass, I can't help you with your issue if you don't answer my question... anyway, if you are mounting as smbfs, I would switch to cifs, it's supposed to have substantial performance improvements... If you are using mplayer, you might try something like -cache 8192 as a command line option... and, anecdotally, most people have an extremely hard/impossible time with myth over 11Mb networks, so you might consider a router upgrade to at *least

[18:06:15] gbee: eric__: what are you trying to achieve? LVM is normally used for that purpose, but if you simply want mythtv to use all 2.5 Tb as storage for recordings then LVM is made redundant in 0.21 by the storage groups code which allows you to specify as many storage directories/drives as you want (mythtv will then balance recordings across the available space)

[20:01:42] jordan: what does no tables mean?

[20:02:05] iamlindoro: no idea
[20:02:32] jordan: Interesting, brb
[20:02:39] iamlindoro: So anyway, I would try both QAM-64 and 256, and let the scans complete

[20:14:28] jordan: channel freq – us-cable?
[20:14:54] iamlindoro: yes, that's the most common... you may differ, but in the US for QAM it's probably most common
[20:15:10] iamlindoro: we'll staart with what it *probably* is and move on from there
[20:15:30] jordan: Okay sounds great
[20:15:50] jordan: I would be perfectly fine with no analog on this
[20:15:58] jordan: as long as I can get digital
[20:16:00] iamlindoro: also, and you may be aware of this, but QAM ATSC will likely only be unencrypted on network TV channels... ie if this works, you will probably get NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, and WB, all in HD... but not the other channels-- comedy central, etc.

[20:19:05] jordan: music videos, lots of classic rock

[20:19:45] iamlindoro: And use a second tuner for the standard def stuff
[20:20:11] jordan: Gotcha, also – with all of the OTA signals going to ATSC, does that effect cable signals too?
[20:20:21] jordan: Like, will cable channels be sent as ATSC also?

[20:22:16] iamlindoro: not unencrypted... they force you to use their box for that
[20:22:37] iamlindoro: which is why most of us use a PVR-150 to record the output of the box in standard def

[20:28:57] iamlindoro: Hahaha, *you're* the one with the card
[20:28:57] jordan: although im sure its the other one that got analog signal
[20:29:11] jordan: so it must be this input
[20:29:27] iamlindoro: It's worth trying both if you get nothing on this one
[20:29:53] xris: iamlindoro: that's weird. never had any trouble. you just quote the fcc ruling to them and they usually give in
[20:30:17] jordan: Okay i'm trying QAM 64
[20:30:24] iamlindoro: xris: I know how it theoretically should work, but you know what I mean... they have ways of making you miserable

[20:33:33] jordan: well arent you special :p
[20:33:57] jordan: I cant even get a usable signal
[20:33:58] jordan: haha
[20:34:09] mikeones: I was jacking around with my /etc/hosts file and I rebooted my box only to find mythtv wanted me to run the mythtv-setup agin.
[20:34:23] xris: mikeones: sounds like the machine's hostname changed
[20:34:26] mikeones: I did so and all it working agin exept I ee this now
[20:34:31] mikeones: yep

[20:37:59] iamlindoro: what did you change?
[20:38:26] iamlindoro: did you do any of the following: get rid of the 127.0.0.1 line, get rid of "localhost," change an ip address?
[20:40:56] mikeones: I had 127.0.0.1 localhost and on the next line I added 127.0.0.1 hostname
[20:41:21] mikeones: But I removed the 2nd line and it still gave me problems
[20:42:07] iamlindoro: ok, well, first, for future reference, the correc t way to do that would be:
[20:42:15] iamlindoro: 127.0.0.1 localhost hostname
[20:42:19] iamlindoro: instead of two lines
[20:42:23] mikeones: right
[20:42:30] mikeones: I found that out later
[20:42:48] iamlindoro: so why don't you pastebin your hosts file and we'll look

[20:43:11] mikeones: cat /etc/hosts
[20:43:11] mikeones: 127.0.0.1 localhost
[20:43:30] iamlindoro: ok, what does ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt say?

[20:45:00] iamlindoro: what does the next line say?
[20:45:11] iamlindoro: there's not *uncommented" localhostname=?
[20:45:45] iamlindoro: anyway, it should read localhostname=localhost
[20:45:54] iamlindoro: and that may solve your issue
[20:45:56] mikeones: iamlindoro: no, the only thing that is uncommentec is the db info DBHostName=localhost
[20:46:31] mikeones: I wil add the above
[20:46:36] iamlindoro: well, anyway, try localhostname=localhost and see what happens
[20:49:01] mikeones: I added localhostname=localhost, restart mythtv and still get Encoder 1 is local on my-unique-identifier-goes-here and is not recording.

[20:55:16] Toxicity999: nvtvout/nv must handle it.
[20:55:20] iamlindoro: toxicity, as in, the open source nv driver?

[22:50:30] Tanthrix: And I presume you've installed the card properly following this: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Kworld_ATSC_110
[22:51:53] jordan: Yes I have
[22:51:57] jordan: As far as I can tell
[22:52:06] jordan: Analog works except for sound / syncing
[22:52:09] Tanthrix: And I also presume you've tried swapping coax jacks

[22:52:16] jordan: I have both plugged in
[22:52:25] jordan: While scanning
[22:52:30] Tanthrix: Well, it's a frame grabber so you can't expect much from its analog side
[22:52:43] jordan: Exactly I just wanted to test it
[22:52:48] jordan: (in myth)
[22:55:27] jordan: that guide says
[22:55:38] jordan: cd /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan — then execute ./scan
[22:55:45] jordan: there is no 'scan' script there

[23:06:32] kdubya: jordan did you follow the extra stuff for the 115 on the wiki?
[23:06:42] jordan: Yes I did
[23:06:54] kdubya: what happens when you scan?
[23:06:59] jordan: It is recognized as an Atsc 110
[23:07:04] jordan: Scan in which app
[23:07:07] kdubya: myth
[23:07:21] jordan: It says timed out, most no signal but some no tables
[23:07:33] kdubya: yeah
[23:07:36] kdubya: its supposed to do that
[23:07:41] jordan: Okay
[23:07:42] kdubya: save for five or six channels
[23:07:49] jordan: Save?
[23:07:56] kdubya: "other than"
[23:08:12] jordan: okay
[23:08:22] kdubya: you dont get anything like "Added channel 83#3"
[23:08:24] kdubya: ?
[23:08:27] jordan: None

[23:10:21] jordan: Both
[23:10:27] kdubya: yeah me too
[23:10:39] kdubya: the damn thing switches so i just keep them both plugged in
[23:11:01] jordan: I dont feel like dealing with figuring out which one is which
[23:11:16] kdubya: there is a guy on the mailing list
[23:11:27] kdubya: saying it needed a pretty strong signal
[23:11:37] kdubya: is it split a bunch of times?
[23:11:47] jordan: Twice
[23:11:57] jordan: I have a signal booster
[23:12:02] kdubya: yeah
[23:12:09] kdubya: well im splitting mine 4 times with a booster
[23:12:44] jordan: Okay
[23:12:49] kdubya: dunno man
[23:13:00] jordan: How can I see if the firmware is loaded right
[23:13:03] kdubya: does your TV have a qam tuner to make sure you actually get channels?
[23:13:09] jordan: Yes it does / we do
[23:13:12] kdubya: k
[23:13:48] kdubya: well i would assume that if it shows up as "kworld 110" in myth setup the firmware should be working
[23:13:54] jordan: yeah
[23:14:15] jordan: Which cable input is SUPPOSED to be the QAM one
[23:14:24] jordan: the one on the end or towards the middle
[23:14:41] jordan: Because this 'bottom' terminology is confusing
[23:14:45] kdubya: it changes
[23:14:53] kdubya: it depends on which one your computer detects
[23:14:54] jordan: not according to the wiki
[23:14:55] kdubya: first
[23:15:13] kdubya: they all disagree on there dont they
[23:15:30] jordan: Well the one on the farthest from the other inputs is always analog for me
[23:15:40] jordan: So the other is DtV?
[23:15:56] kdubya: i dont know
[23:16:02] kdubya: is one FM radio?
[23:16:03] kdubya: heh
[23:16:03] jordan: (need to know where to try booster)
[23:16:05] jordan: haha
[23:16:31] kdubya: oh
[23:16:35] kdubya: well the answer to that is easy
[23:16:44] kdubya: you need to boost it before the split
[23:16:58] kdubya: otherwise you will be amplifying noise introduced by the splitter
[23:17:55] kdubya: and i think that by "bottom connector" they mean the one closest to the motherboard

[23:40:35] jordan: that would be outside
[23:40:46] kdubya: yeah strongest possible that you can reach
[23:40:51] jordan: gotcha
[23:41:09] kdubya: putting it right before it goes into the card is what you dont want to do
[23:41:22] kdubya: the card itself can do that

[23:51:33] bsdfox_: what's the problem
[23:51:35] leprechau: whatcha need?
[23:51:57] gotthardt: there is no link for it in apache
[23:52:07] leprechau: what?
[23:52:11] gotthardt: i have had it working before so i know what to look for
[23:52:27] leprechau: you have to create a virtualhost for it....or at least a directory alias
[23:52:33] gotthardt: i get the default page in apache, but no link for mythweb
[23:52:41] leprechau: or...make sure mythweb is installed under the default docroot
[23:52:52] gotthardt: i have ubuntu and it put things in the right places
[23:52:58] gotthardt: the sym links look good

[23:53:05] leprechau: mythweb isn't going to modify your existing default html page
[23:53:19] leprechau: prolly just need to do: http://ip-address/mythweb/
[23:53:21] gotthardt: right – it adds another site-enabled
[23:53:22] bsdfox_: try http://server/mythweb
[23:53:35] bsdfox_: it might have a .htaccess also
[23:53:54] leprechau: it does have an .htaccess that tries to override some global settings
[23:53:59] bsdfox_: and if it's just a symlink you could need to add a <Directory xxx> directive to your httpd.conf
[23:54:08] leprechau: you will need to make a directory block that gives it an AllowOverride ALL
[23:54:13] gotthardt: have that
[23:54:33] gotthardt: - got internal server error browsing straight to mythweb
[23:55:06] gotthardt: i have tried all the webpages referring to mythweb – came here as last resort
[23:55:29] gotthardt: i had it working once upon a time,
[23:55:41] leprechau: you also need php
[23:55:41] gotthardt: this is on a backend
[23:55:46] leprechau: and the right php modules installed
[23:55:49] gotthardt: the frontend works ok
[23:55:52] leprechau: ie, mysql/mysqli/etc...
[23:55:52] kdubya: did you install from repositories?
