[00:01:01] juski: well, digital muxes tend to be in a completely different part of the UHF band
[00:01:18] juski: until the analogue switchoff when they're all gonna move up
[00:01:42] juski: and analogue channels are generally grouped close together
[00:02:00] ServerSage: Well, real football is about to start. Must run and watch the colts rip the saints a new one.  ;)
[00:02:01] juski: so if the digital stuff is at the wrong end of the band not covered by the aerial...
[00:02:22] Flamekebab: hmm
[00:02:28] juski: Flamekebab: if the STB can only get a weak/crap or no signal, a PC tuner hasn't a hope
[00:02:47] Flamekebab: is there a solution if that turns out to be the case?
[00:02:59] juski: you can always try moving slots if it's a pci card – try further away from the PSU
[00:03:09] Flamekebab: it's far from the PSU already
[00:03:18] juski: all sorts of stuff can interfere with RF inside a PC case
[00:03:22] Flamekebab: any movement will bring it closer, the PSU is at the bottom

[00:38:41] MaverickTech: hooray !
[00:39:22] MaverickTech: multirec is recording on a second 'virtual tuner' so I don't have the front/end of back to back recordings mucked up
[00:39:30] MaverickTech: all hails the mythtv devs
[00:40:18] GreyFoxx: Multirec is pretty sweet
[00:41:35] MaverickTech: recording 4 channels at the moment...

[00:43:53] MaverickTech: I can't be sure, but it seems that if I try to set 2 currently showing programs to record, then the second does not start duie to a conflict – does it have to go through the scheduler before the virtual tuners kick in
[00:44:12] MaverickTech: ... I am still playing and testing, so I might be right off the mark on that

[00:45:10] zachtib: hey, can the new SD service work with myth 20.1?
[00:45:14] GreyFoxx: There was a minor glitch at first, but it was a bug that was fixed quickly
[00:45:59] GreyFoxx: zachtib: You would have to use xmltv to download the listings, and likely massage the episode id's and such before importing into myth
[00:46:36] zachtib: GreyFoxx, actually, i just found ubuntu packages for 20.2 :)
[00:46:51] NightMonkey (NightMonkey!n=NightMon@pdpc/supporter/sustaining/NightMonkey) has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[00:47:03] MaverickTech: GreyFoxx: ok thanks for the info, like I said, still playing
[00:47:13] MaverickTech: I have suffered no ill effects so far
[00:47:37] ** GreyFoxx takes a peek at the SD forums **
[00:47:39] MaverickTech: I have been running trunk for about 10 months – as soon as multirec synced to trunk recently, I jusmped at it
[00:48:35] GreyFoxx: yeah, I have been "faking" multirec on my own using some vlc+iptv trickery
[00:48:44] MaverickTech: having working back to back recordings has been on the big wish list, as I (bravely/stupidly) run trunk on my main loungeroom system
[00:48:53] GreyFoxx: but that sync to trunk a week or 2 ago was when I switched
[00:48:56] MaverickTech: how so GreyFoxx ?
[00:49:20] MaverickTech: ...on the trickery ?
[00:49:39] GreyFoxx: MaverickTech: I had vlc tune to the transport I wanted (only interested in 1 that had my 8 top channels). I then had vlc spit out 8 iptv streams, 1 per channel. I then configured myth for the iptv channels
[00:49:46] GreyFoxx: I couldtune to all 8 at once
[00:50:16] GreyFoxx: I was lucky in that 8 channels most of my regular recordings were on happen to be all on one transport
[00:51:07] MaverickTech: you tuned vlc to a DVB card ?
[00:51:14] GreyFoxx: yup
[00:51:20] MaverickTech: coool
[00:51:28] iamben: i dont get all this hd lingo
[00:51:36] iamben: i barely get standard def =(
[00:51:46] MaverickTech: which HD lingo
[00:51:49] MaverickTech: I run all SD
[00:51:54] GreyFoxx: then basically I setup a config file for VLC to tune to the channel I want and define the seperate streams
[00:51:58] MaverickTech: I have an analogue tv – about 10 years old
[00:52:03] MaverickTech: so HD is a waste for me
[00:52:12] GreyFoxx: It worked well but I prefer the built in multirec way
[00:52:21] fysafysa: more updates on AVIVO H264 off-loading with ATI (basically a $60 card) – http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=289897&cid=20501863
[00:52:23] MaverickTech: that's nice GreyFoxx, I've not delved into iptv yet
[00:52:36] MaverickTech: though my ISP is going to be running feeds shortly
[00:52:56] MaverickTech: yes, multirec seems to be a great advance

[00:56:05] GreyFoxx: Was merged into head yesterday
[00:56:15] MaverickTech: the next thing I want to do in myth is try to get an .au script for weather done
[00:57:17] GreyFoxx: hehe I saw someone commit a new one for Canada a couple hours ago, so that should make my wife happy assuming I update tonight :)
[00:57:26] GreyFoxx: she uses it a lot :)
[00:58:25] MaverickTech: since the revamp of weather, there are no .au cities

[01:09:20] kdubya: i did
[01:09:25] GreyFoxx: k
[01:09:49] GreyFoxx: At that point I'd login to your account and submit a lineup problem
[01:10:00] kdubya: theres nothing good on to record so i can wait for someone else to have the problem
[01:10:01] kdubya: heh
[01:10:15] GreyFoxx: "Report Lineup Problems" is the link you want

[01:46:30] GreyFoxx: Hmmm do you have another DVD drive laying around you can test? I had that EXACT same thing happen to me

[01:50:25] Slyboots: So I was wondering, if there would be a way to split my collection, Say "Movies" and "TV-Shows" and have differetn default view settings for both
[01:51:22] Anduin: Syphan1: You can create a category and filter on it.
[01:53:23] Slyboots: I can see how you can set a category, but how do I create a new one?
[01:53:25] iamben: Slyboots: imdb handles individual tv eps
[01:53:33] Slyboots: It does?
[01:53:51] iamben: but you'll probalby have to add the imdb id manually, i dunno how smart it is at detecting
[01:53:58] iamben: or maybe my filenames just suck
[01:54:34] iamben: but if you look up a show on imdb, look in the left column for "episode list" and itll show a list of episodes for the show, each w/ an imdb id

[03:01:09] Aval0n-: I guess I'm just looking to seperate the function to 2 buttons instead of one
[03:01:10] d3ity: you're phrasing it right, i understand what you're trying to do... I just don't have an answer for ya
[03:01:42] pat_: actually, I'd be interested in that if you figure out how to do it
[03:01:42] Aval0n-: like pause once = pause, pause again = bookmark

[06:50:01] H00chster: anyone aware if the nvidia 8500 not supporting xvmc?
[06:51:51] Tanthrix: H00chster: All I've heard about is 6xxx series cards not supporting XvMC. But personally, I've found XvMC isn't worth the trouble and sometimes just doesn't get you any CPU improvements.
[06:53:49] H00chster: don't truly need it at moment but am about to start playing with mpeg4 and figure I might need it, I just updated SVN today and saw that the vid branch was incorporated now in trunk and was getting messages in the log of it trying xvmc and not supported on current display or somehting, and little research came up with the possibility that it isn't currently supported yet
[06:54:27] pat_: since I've not payed any attention so far to what -vid is, what exactly is it?
[06:54:43] H00chster: enhanced deinterlacing and decoders pretty much
[06:54:50] pat_: aah
[06:54:50] H00chster: more video options in other words
[06:55:14] Tanthrix: H00chster: XvMC only works with MPEG2.
[06:55:36] ** pat_ is lucky that he doesn't need it using the svideo out on an nvidia card produces the correct interlaced signal for his tv so recordings don't need to be deinterlaced **
[06:55:56] H00chster: maybe so, not an expert by any means but just thought i read about some peeps that were having to use it for mpeg4 using coreavc but since I haven't had a chance to get into it yet I can't confirm that heh
[06:56:32] pat_: I used a monitor years ago, and I know what interlaced tv looks like on it, and I know I don't have that with my current setup
[06:56:32] lwizardl: what's the best video card for output to a hdtv
[06:56:40] Tanthrix: CoreAVC is just a software x264 encoder – shouldn't have anything to do with XvMC, unless it's some kind of weird hack
[06:57:03] H00chster: lwizardl I would guess any nvidia
[06:57:06] Tanthrix: lwizardl: A Geforce 7300GS is ideal.
[06:57:09] H00chster: 5xxx and up that is
[06:57:28] H00chster: 6xxx and up I believe will get you 1080p if you have anything that needs that
[06:57:50] H00chster: Tanthrix, not quite sure will have to wait till I can get more info and actually try it heh
[06:57:58] pat_: with the current video acceleration that is available, a fanless card is just as good as a more upmarket card with a fan
[06:58:05] H00chster: being as I am getting 10–15% cpu usage on mpeg2 HD I prob should be ok heh

[07:00:14] H00chster: dunno if it is the best yet heh just built this system and just now getting around to messing with it heh been using the remote frontends on svid since building it so didn't have to deal with the hd stuff heh

[15:58:31] TapoutT: Is CentOS the best OS for MythTV?
[15:59:09] RyeBrye: I would lean more towards Fedora over CentOS since Fedora is more desktop-oriented
[15:59:30] directhex: TapoutT, i can't think of a distro i'd be less likely to choose
[15:59:32] RyeBrye: but the "best OS" question is really up to the user...
[15:59:50] directhex: centos is technically worthless, anyway
[16:00:34] RyeBrye: CentOS is made for servers and it has a server-friendly (read: slow) upgrade path... and I've not heard of anyone running Myth on it so you would likely be on your own when dealing with issues
[16:00:38] TapoutT: I just want mythtv running everything console and sending the channel stuff to the other computers connected to the tv's
[16:01:44] directhex: TapoutT, so pick a distro lots of people running myth use. fedora, ubuntu, debian, or a myth-specific distro like knoppmyth, mythdora, mythbuntu
[16:02:19] RyeBrye: You can run a headless backend, but I think you need to have X to run a VNC session to run setup
[16:02:32] directhex: RyeBrye, red hat sucks, but has Enterprise(tm) support. centos is red hat minus support. do the maths :p
[16:03:15] RyeBrye: CentOS also relies on YUM wheras RHEL has Yum and also Up2Date – Up2Date is actually pretty nice

[22:51:49] laga: ask a *specific* question then
[22:52:46] dillweed: heh, problem is i'm not sure what to ask. I'm trying to do the wakeup via acpi, but the script on the acpi page is confusing to me. where do i put the acpi-alarm script?
[22:54:03] dillweed: plus i'm using a 2.6.22 kernel and now acpi alarm has moved to a different place, etc. I'm so confused.
[22:54:14] mkrufky: dillweed: if you have the FusionHDTV5 RT Gold, I have enabled the RTC on that board and you can use the remote control or the card's auto-wakeup feature to auto-start the pc just like dvico windows driver

[22:54:46] mkrufky: ...but thats not wakeup via acpi — its slightly different... and i doubt you have the same exact card

[22:56:11] dillweed: if i set it to utc what is that going to do to my time, etc.
[22:57:13] dillweed: plus i have no /dev/acpi/alarm. what i need to know is what happens when I shutdown. does my shutdown command read my wakealarm stuff and set the bios accordingly?
[22:57:41] laga: dillweed: stuff for newer kernels is explained in the wiki as well
[22:58:57] laga: dillweed: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/ACPI_Wak . . . .2Fwakealarm
[22:59:00] dillweed: i'm also using pm-utils (since archlinux prefers them over powersave) what does that mean for me.
[22:59:24] dillweed: laga: ty. i've also read that.
[22:59:36] laga: since i don't know what pm-utils does...
[22:59:46] laga: dillweed: so, where's the problem?
[23:00:09] dillweed: as far as i can tell pretty much the same thing as powersave stuff.
[23:00:36] dillweed: I guess my problem is when I type "shutdown -h now" is that command going to read my wakealarm stuff and set my bios correctly?
[23:00:55] laga: no
[23:00:56] Yahooadam: why dont u try it ?
[23:01:01] laga: you need to set the wakeup time.
[23:01:08] laga: and shutdown afterwards
[23:01:13] dillweed: i just want to test it before I start messing with mythtv stuff.
[23:01:40] laga: well, test it then. be bold and experiment – but dont break anything ;)
[23:02:06] dillweed: ok, so if i cat "some number" > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm and then shutdown -h now will it read it?
[23:02:27] laga: you need to reset it first
[23:02:34] dillweed: yea, i should test it, i don't think messing with the wakealarm will mess it up.
[23:02:42] laga: echo 0 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
[23:02:45] dillweed: what do i need to reset?
[23:02:48] laga: as shown in the script
[23:02:56] laga: and mentioned in the wiki article :)
[23:03:12] dillweed: do you mean the 2.6.22 script?
[23:03:15] laga: yes
[23:04:05] laga: assuming it applies to you
[23:04:17] dillweed: ok so wakealarm is empty.
[23:04:29] dillweed: how do i convert my date to secs from 01/01/1970
[23:05:01] laga: dillweed: check the man page for date
[23:05:09] dillweed: and where do i put that script. is that script called from mythtv or by acpid?
[23:05:14] laga: should be simple. look for "date since epoch" or so
[23:05:29] laga: called by mythtv
[23:05:36] laga: never had to mess with any power saving stuff
[23:06:20] dillweed: i usually leave my mythtv on, but I'm trying to save some power comsumption so as you can tell i'm trying to get it shutdown and restart before recording, etc.
