if the mplayer test fails, try ls -al /dev/dvb & see which user has ownership of the device. make sure the mythtv user and the user you're trying this stuff as is a member of the 'video' group

I installed mythtv on a fresh ubuntu installation (edgy), my first problem is that when I want to try to start the server with /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start i get : restart already running, on stop I get: Stopping MythTV server: mythbackend No /usr/bin/mythbackend found running; none killed.
