[02:53:35] akant2: Where can I explicity define this?

[02:54:09] GreyFoxx: akant2: there are several potential places, and not being a knoppmyth user I can only give generalities
[02:54:27] GreyFoxx: /etc/modules.conf or /etc/modprobe.conf are likely candidates

[03:22:58] Cardoe: So anyone know why MythTV defeaults to 480x480?
[03:23:03] Cardoe: instead of 720x480
[03:23:57] coolego1: I have just finished (re)installing mythtv, but before I wiped the hard drive, I took my entire recordings directory and the mysql database and backed them up. What do I have to do to get these things back?
[03:24:53] jams: i *think* it was because there was no difference in quality and it performed better when using a framegrabber card.
[03:25:26] alsoconfused: coolego1: you can copy the recordings back into the directory. restoring the db depends on how you backed it up.
[03:27:01] coolego1: I did a global backup of the database
[03:27:16] coolego1: I have a .sql file
[03:27:18] alsoconfused: coolego1: a mysql dump, or a file copy?

[03:29:01] alsoconfused: ahh. you'll need to create the mythtv user in mysql first. i think theres a script somewhere in mythtv that does that. once that's done, you should be able to suck in the data with something like: mysql -u mythtv -pmythtv < backup.sql
[03:29:45] alsoconfused: then when you run mythtv-setup it should update the tables as necessary if you have a newer version of myth.
[03:30:14] GreyFoxx: Cardoe: I think that's due to a lot of the older BTTV cards not supporting higher than that
[03:31:01] GreyFoxx: though personally I think it's time for the default to change and maybe fallback if it gets a failure to be set
[03:31:02] Cardoe: GreyFoxx: hmm.. ok. Cause I was thinking of bumping it to 720x480

[03:36:14] defaultro: nope
[03:36:18] GreyFoxx: ok

[03:37:35] defaultro: fe is at 20%

[03:38:02] defaultro: upnp?
[03:38:10] defaultro: on my linux?
[03:38:16] GreyFoxx: the upnp media server which is build into mythbackend
[03:38:32] GreyFoxx: it sees the broadcasts of other upnp devices
[03:38:45] defaultro: i'm still wondering why suddenly, it would not respond properly
[03:39:04] defaultro: what port does it listen on?
[03:39:28] GreyFoxx: Well, IF it's the upnp stuff, then if it saw an invalid upnp packet (well really ssdp broadcast) it could spin out of control and wont stop until the backend is restarted
[03:39:45] defaultro: but I already rebooted and it was still the same
[03:39:59] defaultro: it went fine this afternoon when I deleted the recordings today
[03:40:12] GreyFoxx: What version of myth are you running?
[03:40:28] defaultro: around 6pm, it recorded again and cpu is taxed again

[12:13:07] purserj: hmm do you know i f the info for getting the lr6650 remote to work works with the 1000?
[12:13:15] juski: no idea
[12:13:42] juski: the version of the card I have only has aerial sockets – no video/audio & no remote
[12:13:54] purserj: ah okay
[12:14:08] juski: I imagine you'll need the cx88 lirc module though
[12:14:20] purserj: ah let me try that

[12:19:40] ifvoid: hello
[12:19:49] juski: hiya
[12:20:20] ifvoid: could anyone please point me to some documentation on how to add a new audio codec for transcoding?
[12:20:49] ifvoid: for some reason, all videos lose their sound on transcoding
[12:20:52] purserj: thanks juski for your help. Its late and I think I'll give it over for now
[12:20:56] juski: a new audio codec? I think you just get what you're given unless you wanna dig into the source
[12:21:13] ifvoid: juski: currently, it only has "raw" and "mp3"
[12:21:21] ifvoid: can't I add ogg vorbis?
[12:21:32] juski: not without changing the code
[12:21:34] Diabolic: so, what's the recommended video display card for myth?
[12:21:40] ifvoid: because the mp3 codec doesn't work for some reason (all the sound is gone after transcoding)
[12:21:50] juski: Diabolic: not the pvr350, that's for sure
[12:22:15] juski: Diabolic: I don't recommend hardware, generally but you'll likely get good results with nvidia cards
[12:22:16] Diabolic: juski: Hehe, I'm not looking for a good capture card, just display card.
[12:22:30] Diabolic: juski: Yep, I was thinking of getting a nvidia.
[12:22:32] juski: ifvoid: what's the source material?
[12:22:32] ifvoid: juski: so it doesn't just call an axternal program to to the compression?
[12:22:40] juski: ifvoid: no it doesn't
[12:22:41] ifvoid: juski: just any recorded program
[12:22:48] juski: ifvoid: dvb?
[12:23:02] ifvoid: juski: the original mpeg2 source is ok, has sound and video
[12:23:06] Diabolic: juski: nvidia 6200 maybe?
[12:23:14] ifvoid: but after transcoding to mpeg4/mp3, the sound is gone
[12:23:17] juski: ifvoid: you can quite easily make a user job to do a custom transcode
[12:23:24] ifvoid: juski: no, from normal analog pal
[12:23:25] juski: ifvoid: are the recordings dvb?
[12:23:36] quicksilver: Diabolic: the fanless ones are popular, people like their mythboxes to be quiet
[12:23:45] juski: ifvoid: ahh. so it can't be automagically selecting the wrong audio track then ;)
[12:24:02] ifvoid: juski: nope, I checked the original video with mplayer
[12:24:03] quicksilver: Diabolic: I went for an ATI due to an irrational dislike of nvidia. Either can work.
[12:24:12] ifvoid: juski: it only has 1 sound stream
[12:24:24] Diabolic: quicksilver: I have some problems with the ATI driver now, that's why I'm looking at other cards.
[12:24:36] ifvoid: and the transcoded video also has 1 audio stream, it's just empty
[12:24:43] juski: ifvoid: what does ffmpeg -i $filename say about the resultant file?
[12:24:52] quicksilver: Diabolic: I'm using the GATOS branch with ATI TV-Out on a radeon 9250 which works fine for me
[12:25:01] quicksilver: Diabolic: no hardware assist on the decoding, but that's OK I don't really need that
[12:25:39] ifvoid: juski: let me check
[12:26:22] Diabolic: quicksilver: I have a radeon 9200

[12:27:31] quicksilver: Diabolic: should be fine then, that's the same chipset I believe
[12:27:40] juski: ifvoid: so the output file has an audio stream. does vlc play the file ok?
[12:27:48] quicksilver: Diabolic: have you ever had it working?
[12:27:55] ifvoid: yes, it is played ok, there's just no sound

[12:28:15] juski: ifvoid: have you changed any of the transcoding settings?
[12:28:39] Diabolic: quicksilver: Well, at the moment I have a freevo setup, not mythtv. But I get the problem with watching movies in mplayer anyway. It cuts of the bottom half of the picture.
[12:28:58] ifvoid: juski: hmm, hold on, it seems vlc _does_ play sound
[12:29:05] ifvoid: just not on the mythtv box
[12:29:11] juski: ifvoid: aha!

[17:22:07] brad_mssw: tever

[19:32:36] kleptophobiac2: LVM handles that very poorly

[19:33:22] kleptophobiac2: I like to do RAID5 + LVM
[19:33:29] kleptophobiac2: RAID5 is too bad for scaling
[19:33:32] kleptophobiac2: *isn't
[19:33:33] Paladine: Bernardo, afaik RAID requires all drives to be the same size
[19:33:37] kleptophobiac2: and LVM is downright easy
[19:33:58] Paladine: kleptophobiac2, but scalability in LVM allows for mixed drive sizes
[19:34:10] Paladine: making it far more scalable than RAID5
[19:34:18] kleptophobiac2: Paladine – that is true
[19:34:20] quicksilver: you're comparing apples with oranges
[19:34:27] quicksilver: LVM and RAID5 aren't incompatible
[19:34:35] kleptophobiac2: that's a different "scalability"
[19:34:40] quicksilver: in fact, if I was RAID5'ing I'd use LVM on top of RAID5
[19:34:40] kleptophobiac2: that's LVM's tolerance for poor planning
[19:35:07] quicksilver: you can run RAID5 on partitions, so even if your disks aren' the same size, you join together the bits that are
[19:35:11] Bernardo: Paladine: not software raid. You only need all partitions to be the same size
[19:35:11] quicksilver: and do something else with the other bits
[19:35:15] quicksilver: (another volume maybe)
