[00:30:55] EnterUserName: i installed the wrong one.
[00:31:02] EnterUserName: erk i mean the svnone
[00:31:04] xris: but it's different from svn, too. even fixes and .20 are different
[00:31:17] EnterUserName: oh darn...means i have to reset my database :)
[00:31:31] EnterUserName: So you would suggest using the .20 version right for stability?
[00:32:05] EnterUserName: (0.20 fixes i am referring to)
[00:33:07] xris: yes
[00:33:16] xris: if you're compiling from source, you should definitely grab from the fixes branch
[00:33:36] EnterUserName: yes i downloaded the wrong one previously i noticed so i have to start from a fresh database :(

[00:36:39] skizo1: i've got two input sources, but shouldn't only one be showing in the program guide? there are two channels showing up for every channel in the guide, and the second one of each says "Adding" instead of the name of the channel
[00:37:13] EnterUserName: gthats a good question skizo cuz i dont know how to do that eitehr
[00:37:24] EnterUserName: how do i change between inputs for program guides
[00:37:53] PointyPumper: uhm
[00:37:58] PointyPumper: both sources are the same?
[00:38:03] EnterUserName: no
[00:38:06] PointyPumper: lets say, the same cable?
[00:38:08] PointyPumper: ok
[00:38:08] EnterUserName: One is analog one is digital
[00:38:21] EnterUserName: so one has 75 channels and one has 300 :S
[00:38:30] Joffray: they're all on the same guide
[00:38:44] PointyPumper: and u want to filter em by source?
[00:38:58] EnterUserName: yes if possible
[00:38:59] skizo1: Joffray: why are they all on the same guide? that makes no sense, only the channels for the input source you're currently on should be showing
[00:39:13] Joffray: not true
[00:39:18] skizo1: ?
[00:39:23] Joffray: well, it's not
[00:39:27] Joffray: I pull up my guide
[00:39:35] Joffray: it has the info for all channels on all sources
[00:39:51] skizo1: i've got two sources, one's digital, and one's analog, so i've got channels 2 – 78 or so on both of them... the digital source has more higher number channels
[00:40:05] Joffray: cool?
[00:40:22] Joffray: I just prefix them with a digit so they don't get conflicted
[00:40:40] EnterUserName: Joffray: Explain..
[00:40:59] Joffray: for source 3 I prefix all the channels with a 3
[00:41:00] PointyPumper: on the channel number?
[00:41:04] Joffray: yes
[00:41:09] Joffray: so that they are unique
[00:41:10] PointyPumper: u can also use a_
[00:41:11] skizo1: Joffray: you shouldn't have to do that... it doesn't make any sense to show you the channels from the other source when you're not currently on that source
[00:41:11] PointyPumper: and d_
[00:41:14] PointyPumper: xD
[00:41:28] Joffray: skizol: it does though. I'm not complaining
[00:41:30] EnterUserName: how do you do a prefix?
[00:41:31] Joffray: I like it
[00:42:02] skizo1: Joffray: you wouldn't if all of your channels 2 – 78 were exactly the same and hence duplicated 4 times :(
[00:42:03] Joffray: UPDATE channel SET channum = CONCAT(sourceid, channum);
[00:42:14] EnterUserName: hmm
[00:42:22] Joffray: or whatever you want to do
[00:42:36] Joffray: skizol: I've got about 2500 channels right now ;)
[00:42:39] EnterUserName: the question is, how would it know to change the channel
[00:42:49] EnterUserName: Satellite im guessing :)
[00:42:57] Joffray: yea, mostly
[00:42:58] EnterUserName: yer changing the channum is that just the name
[00:43:33] Joffray: the channum is really just for you, the information as to where to tune it is stored in the database
[00:44:01] Joffray: skizol: why wouldn't you do it with 4 inputs?
[00:44:03] topping (topping!n=topping@207.47.6.182.static.nextweb.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:44:59] skizo1: Joffray: this is the way i see it... you're watching tv on input 1, so i only want to see the channels for input 1 in the guide... if i switch inputs to input 2, i only want to see the channels for input 2 in the guide... it makes no sense to put all other channels from non-active inputs into the guide...
[00:45:00] EnterUserName: hey

[00:45:41] Joffray: well, that's not how it's done
[00:45:50] Joffray: I think it makes a lot of sense
[00:46:12] Joffray: I have a bunch of channels on a bunch of inputs
[00:46:22] Joffray: I don't want to have to sift through which channel is on which input
[00:46:26] Joffray: I just wanna go to it
[00:46:31] skizo1: Joffray: yeah, and that's your opinion, which is exactly why it should be an option to filter the guide based on the input you're on
[00:46:40] Joffray: it might be an option
[00:46:57] skizo1: i'd love that if it were :P... i haven't found it yet though
[00:47:09] EnterUserName: if i do autoflagging for commercials
[00:47:20] EnterUserName: woudl a 64 bit 2.4 ghz be considered underpowered?
[00:47:20] EnterUserName: :)
[00:47:23] EnterUserName: 2 gigs of ram..
[00:47:24] Joffray: no
[00:47:26] Joffray: not at all
[00:47:27] EnterUserName: ok
[00:47:34] EnterUserName: its not dual core or anything
[00:47:34] EnterUserName: :)
[00:47:41] EnterUserName: ill set it up to flag for commercials then.
[00:47:43] Joffray: I use a 2.6ghz Celeron D
[00:47:44] EnterUserName: autostart
[00:47:46] Joffray: with 1GB of ram
[00:47:54] Joffray: and I do the auto flag commercials
[00:47:54] EnterUserName: Oh.. Do you have autostart for flagging?
[00:47:57] Joffray: yea
[00:48:03] EnterUserName: its set to be off by default ;)
[00:48:17] Joffray: yea....
[00:48:18] PointyPumper: does comm flaggin works?
[00:48:23] Joffray: yes it does
[00:48:26] Joffray: fairly well
[00:48:37] PointyPumper: ahve u ever lost a part of a recording cause of autoflaggin?
[00:48:50] Joffray: well
[00:48:50] EnterUserName: Doesn't it keep the original recording?
[00:48:53] Joffray: it doesn't cut it out
[00:49:00] Joffray: it just flags where the commercials are
[00:49:04] EnterUserName: nod :)
[00:49:05] PointyPumper: no? when u transcodeit it doesnt?
[00:49:16] EnterUserName: they need a mythtv backend for windows :p
[00:49:19] Joffray: no, when you transcode it does not cut out the commercials
[00:49:24] PointyPumper: snif
[00:49:25] PointyPumper: yea
[00:49:26] Joffray: Enter: no, no
[00:49:30] PointyPumper: i need one :(
[00:49:36] Joffray: ugh
[00:49:58] Quan: yeah is there any way to get mythcommflag to automatically add the cutlist?
[00:50:13] EnterUserName: oh howabout a mythtv cluster ?
[00:50:21] EnterUserName: so i can have 2 systems working on it at the same time ":p
[00:50:29] Joffray: Quan: no idea
[00:50:31] Quan: EnterUserName: you can already have multiple backends :)
[00:50:54] EnterUserName: can the input be on a different machien though?
[00:51:14] halex-ab: EnterUserName, Yup..
[00:51:33] EnterUserName: mebbe i'll use a vmware instance
[00:51:37] EnterUserName: to be another backend
[00:52:49] EnterUserName: (i have a vmware server on a windows machine lol )
[00:53:05] Joffray: that won't work
[00:53:09] Joffray: well, it'll work
[00:53:11] Joffray: just very slowly
[00:53:14] EnterUserName: hmm
[00:53:24] Quan: don't think the tuner will work in vmware
[00:53:27] Joffray: yea
[00:53:30] Joffray: and a tuner won't work
[00:53:35] EnterUserName: oh
[00:53:36] EnterUserName: thats why i asked
[00:53:45] EnterUserName: i have a tuner on antoher machine i just want to put the processing on antoher one
[00:53:52] EnterUserName: to speed things up if necessary
[00:53:53] Quan: you could use vmware as a frontend though
[00:54:02] Joffray: mythtv does not use up a ton of processing
[00:54:11] Joffray: especially on a 2.4ghz machine w/2Gb of RAM
[00:54:25] Joffray: you can put many cards in a machine like that
[00:54:35] Quan: yeah the only thing that's cpu intensive is transcoding, and even that runs at a low priority
[00:54:48] EnterUserName: I use it for both my desktop and my tv system
[00:55:02] EnterUserName: but yer right i've had no problems yet.. im just curious on whast start autoflagging will do
[00:55:31] Quan: hrmm mytharchive is being a PITA :P
[00:55:43] Quan: the "size" gauge doesn't work to well

[01:02:18] Quan: have it CAUSE problems?
[01:02:35] Quan: simon_c_home: got an example?
[01:02:38] simon_c_home: Quan: Yeh.
[01:02:46] simon_c_home: all my permissions in /bin and /usr/bin have gone to 666
[01:02:48] simon_c_home: very strange.
[01:03:02] Quan: mytharchive doesn't run as root...
[01:03:09] Quan: so it'd be kind of hard for it to change perms
[01:03:12] simon_c_home: maybe something else happened on the box. But it's very strange.
[01:03:17] Quan: unless you were running it as root
[01:03:30] simon_c_home: well, I'm lazy, (so I know it's my own falut) but it was running as root.

[01:04:17] EnterUserName: man zapit needs a faster connection
[01:04:23] EnterUserName: this takes way to darn long to fill the database ;)
[01:04:27] simon_c_home: just asking on the off chance it's known.

[01:06:51] informavore: I mean, how to get mythtv to read from the composite input... (I have a Hauppauge 500, the tunes work, but how to use the composite to read from a cable box?)
[01:08:07] Quan: informavore: set up another source using the composite input
[01:08:45] informavore: ok.. but they both use /dev/video0 ?
[01:11:05] BULLE: informavore: yes, you can only use the composite input OR one of the tuners
[01:12:07] Quan: informavore: run mythtv-setup, go into capture cards, select new, use /dev/video0, but use composite as input instead of television
[01:12:20] EnterUserName: thats too cool!!! A picture in a picture option
[01:12:28] EnterUserName: how do i change that channel :p

[01:23:34] EnterUserName: oh ok
[01:23:39] EnterUserName: and how about the programs not being
[01:23:54] EnterUserName: shown for both inputs if they are the same you dont get duplicates?
[01:23:54] Joffray: not being .........
[01:23:58] Quan: when you change inputs the guide should switch to whats on the other input
[01:24:13] EnterUserName: when i go to programg uide from the menu
[01:24:20] EnterUserName: i only see one channel guide
[01:24:25] Joffray: right
[01:24:43] EnterUserName: so isit because both stations have the same program playing?
[01:24:49] EnterUserName: or is it some setting im issing
[01:24:55] Joffray: well you should see both channels
[01:25:00] Joffray: there should be 2 of the same
[01:25:07] EnterUserName: nope there is not..
[01:25:15] ** Joffray shrugs then **

[01:26:34] EnterUserName: hmm well ones set to the analog feed and the other to the digital feed ..
[01:27:08] Quan: does it switch between them when you press C?
[01:27:17] EnterUserName: how do you change call sign?
[01:27:17] Quan: or do you only see the analog channels?
[01:27:18] EnterUserName: let me see
[01:27:30] skizo1: EnterUserName: i changed it in the database
[01:27:55] skizo1: because the callsign for my analog input was "Adding Channel x..." instead of what it should have been

[01:32:30] EnterUserName: how do i switch to analog?
[01:32:38] informavore: Quan: how do I record to something that doesn't have a channel?
[01:32:42] EnterUserName: I was able to record on analog so i know its both there..
[01:33:03] Quan: informavore: manually...go into watch livetv, change input to the second input
[01:33:10] Quan: then press r
[01:33:20] Quan: AFAIK that should work, never tried it :P
[01:33:34] EnterUserName: Quan: I'm able to go picture within a picture to
[01:33:37] EnterUserName: but the C command is not worknig
[01:34:13] informavore: Quan: Is that with the 'C' command? or the 'Y' command, or... ?
[01:35:00] Quan: should be C informavore
[01:35:10] EnterUserName: It's not working for me:S
[01:35:17] Quan: EnterUserName: try Y too
[01:35:31] Quan: EnterUserName: Y switches cards, C changes inputs on the current card
[01:35:32] Joffray: Y just tells me what channel I'm on
[01:35:38] Quan: hmm
[01:35:45] EnterUserName: yup that works
[01:35:45] Joffray: C works though
[01:35:47] EnterUserName: Y works fopr me
[01:35:48] EnterUserName: :)
[01:35:49] halex-ab: Quan, I thought it was the other way around..
[01:36:08] halex-ab: Nope, you're right..
[01:36:09] halex-ab: lol
[01:36:10] Quan: according to the keybindings chart, Y is switch card, C is switch input
[01:36:30] EnterUserName: oh ok :)
[01:36:39] Quan: can't test atm, got an archive job trying to finish :P
[01:36:49] Quan: so for EnterUserName: Y – he has two cards
[01:36:58] Quan: for informavore: C – he has one card multiple inputs...

[01:42:29] Quan: EnterUserName: you used the wrong channel lineup then

[01:45:12] EnterUserName: just analog
[01:45:17] Quan: Joffray: just run that as a user job?
[01:45:18] EnterUserName: but it works from my tv

[01:46:11] Joffray: you don't have any channels
[01:46:12] Quan: informavore: you can't schedule a recording on the comp input, you'll have to do them manually

[05:26:52] brendan__: hi, i'm having audio trouble with mythtv. I'm using a v4l capture card, and recording audio on the Line chanel of my sound card. I had mythtv working properly when the backend and frontend were on the same computer, but earlier today i moved the master backend onto another computer, and now i'm running a slave backend and frontend now.
[05:26:57] brendan__: anyone have any ideas
[05:27:40] brendan__: i have read the mailing lists and the troubleshooting section in the howto

[07:06:30] jbwan: right
[07:06:32] xris: it is literally just two 150's
[07:06:51] jbwan: is the picture degredation and fuzzy edges that big of a deal?
[07:06:52] xris: if you have the space, two 150's costs less than a 500
[07:06:56] jbwan: or is that being hyped?
[07:07:03] xris: never had any trouble with my 150.
[07:07:07] jbwan: I do
[07:07:18] xris: was light years ahead of my old bttv card, and better than the 250's I'd seen

[07:07:33] jbwan: with both 150s
[07:07:36] xris: single remote for what?
[07:07:39] jbwan: I definately want dual tuner
[07:07:47] jbwan: if I use two 150 cards
[07:07:52] jbwan: instead of the 500
[07:07:57] xris: but remote for what.. to control mythtv or a cable box?
[07:08:02] jbwan: oh
[07:08:03] jbwan: myth
[07:08:12] xris: and what does that have to do with your tuner card?
[07:08:55] EnterUserName: You can use ONE pvr remote control for 2 devices

[07:09:00] EnterUserName: for receiving
[07:09:12] xris: jbwan: so? the remote controls mythtv, not the tuner

[20:47:32] juski: find out if linux supports hardware _before_ buying :)
[20:47:53] Uncivil: on the mythtv hardware listings people are shoing to use it

[20:48:30] Dagmar: Period.
[20:48:47] Uncivil: theres a database on umm
[20:48:54] juski: they might say "ATI TV WONDER" but sadly ATI lump all their cards under the same basic label
[20:48:55] Dagmar: Then email those people and ask them how they got it working
[20:49:22] Uncivil: darn
[20:49:23] juski: my experience with ATI tuner cards in Windows was more "wonder why it's still not working"
[20:49:31] Imaginativeone: riddlebox: can I do that remotely?
[20:49:32] Uncivil: somone even said in here it would work
[20:49:37] juski: who said?
[20:49:41] Uncivil: i dont recall
[20:49:42] Imaginativeone: open up the mpg, that is...
[20:49:42] Dagmar: ATI, by and large, does not give a shit about end users.
[20:49:45] Uncivil: was a few hours ago
[20:49:49] juski: if you'd only said "tv wonder" then yeah
[20:50:02] juski: but not their newer cards which have hardware encoders onboard
[20:50:06] Dagmar: They care greatly about representing high benchmark scores and signing partnering agreements with other vendors, but they treat their users like shit.
[20:50:09] Uncivil: no i recall spelling it out
[20:50:19] riddlebox: Imaginativeone, you can do command remotely but you need to open the file on that pc to see if it recorded anything
[20:50:27] Imaginativeone: got it
[20:50:30] juski: Uncivil: sorry to be the bearer of bad news fella
[20:50:31] SavageOne: man
[20:50:52] SavageOne: if I had an epia mobo and a pvr-150 media center edition, would you recommend knoppmyth or doing like a fedora install and then installing mythtv
[20:50:55] Uncivil: well money and time wasted then
[20:50:59] Uncivil: oh well
[20:51:04] Uncivil: i appreciate everyone help
[20:51:14] riddlebox: SavageOne, it depends on how involved you want to get
[20:51:29] SavageOne: riddle: i want to use mythbox for tv input and some basic features and I want it to work hehe
[20:51:34] juski: Uncivil: if it's possible to trade the card in, do that. otherwise sell it on ebay or somewhere ;)
[20:51:34] SavageOne: I did about 5 installs of knoppmyth
[20:51:38] riddlebox: Uncivil, you will be ready though when you/if the card gets supported :)
[20:51:39] SavageOne: no worky at all
[20:51:54] riddlebox: SavageOne, what do you mean it didnt work
[20:51:56] SavageOne: tried and tried
[20:51:57] juski: knoppmyth is many things to many people. A silver buller it ain't
[20:51:59] Uncivil: ill just put it in windows machine or something
[20:52:02] SavageOne: well it boots into it and sees my card
[20:52:05] Uncivil: and forget about all this other
[20:52:08] SavageOne: buit i can't get it to detect channels or view tv
[20:52:15] SavageOne: and the remote doesn't work
[20:52:15] riddlebox: Uncivil, thats sad to hear
[20:52:19] SavageOne: even tho I chose it from the list etc
[20:52:38] juski: Uncivil: wait a sec...

[20:52:48] SavageOne: pvr150 mce edition

[20:53:03] juski: if that tv wonder card of yours isn't one of the newer ones featuring hardware encoding it might work
[20:53:07] riddlebox: SavageOne, that should work great in knoppmyth
[20:53:11] SavageOne: there was an epia howto on there too but all the wget links were broken
[20:53:13] SavageOne: riddle: nope
[20:53:13] SavageOne: hehe
[20:53:19] SavageOne: it might be te mobo tho know what I mean?
[20:53:36] Uncivil: how i know if it will or wont work?
[20:53:40] SavageOne: there were some kernel updates for epia but none of them would work
[20:53:40] riddlebox: SavageOne, when you do dmesg does it say that the ivtv drivers and the firmware are loaded

[20:53:48] SavageOne: hehe
[20:53:49] SavageOne: it's off now
[20:53:56] SavageOne: I formatted it and I'm gonna try mce just for kicks
[20:54:03] SavageOne: but I'm going to give mythtv another shot tomorrow

[20:55:06] SavageOne: juski: my plan was to get it working, and then post something on the wiki
[20:55:12] riddlebox: SavageOne, as long as ubuntu detects everything I would assume I can help you
[20:55:24] SavageOne: ubuntu is debian based right?
[20:55:33] Cardoe: Anyone see how the menus are doing OpenGL fades

[20:55:49] juski: SavageOne: sign up to their forums... if stuff is broken that they need to fix, let em know
[20:56:09] juski: Cardoe: it's in the appearance menu... change the painter method to 'opengl' then restart mythfrontend
[20:56:10] Uncivil: juski:how do i know if its gonna work or not?
[20:56:10] SavageOne: juski: I will, but as of now I don't know WHAT's broken
[20:56:23] SavageOne: and someone already commented tha tht elinks were broken on the wiki
[20:56:25] Cardoe: juski: where's that config choice?
[20:56:43] juski: Cardoe: should be on the first page of utils/setup > setup > appearance
[20:56:44] Cardoe: juski: looks like it's a default in mythtv 0.20 fixes
[20:56:46] Cardoe: but not 0.20
[20:58:01] Uncivil: riddle:what do i need to do from this point to se if it will even work?
[20:58:34] juski: that tv wonder 200 card looks to me like it's just a framegrabber, so v4l should support it, if not now then eventually
[20:58:55] Imaginativeone: riddlebox: snow, but it looks like snowy video (which is GOOD)
[20:59:13] Imaginativeone: do I just need to connect it to a cable wire?
[20:59:22] riddlebox: Imaginativeone, hrmm YEAH!
[20:59:37] SavageOne: it just seems to me like mythtv needs more focus on ease of implementation
[20:59:39] SavageOne: know what I mean
[20:59:42] SavageOne: you guys ever fuck w/ asterisk?
[20:59:45] SavageOne: it's hard to work with
[20:59:51] riddlebox: SavageOne, its not that hard
[20:59:56] SavageOne: but someone put out this thing called trixbox, it was called asterisk at home
[21:00:00] SavageOne: it's hard w/ certain hardware
[21:00:03] SavageOne: I dunno man
[21:00:23] SavageOne: I'm not THAT linux savy, but I'm a pretty decent computer guy and I'm pulling hair out w/ a recomended mobo and tv card
[21:00:24] SavageOne: hehe
[21:00:34] Imaginativeone: one last question: do I need to get a Wireless desktop card if I want to move it from the wired connection to the (wireless) router?
[21:01:00] juski: yeah that tv wonder 200 is a framegrabber alright, but it may not be supported by v4l drivers yet
[21:01:12] Imaginativeone: one other question (oops) does the capture card "know" when it is receiving video or not?
[21:01:38] Uncivil: jsut a framegrabber? That means it needs alot more processor huh?
[21:01:43] juski: yeah

[21:03:37] juski: Uncivil: try loading up tvtime & see if you get a picture
[21:03:48] Uncivil: whats tvtime?
[21:04:00] juski: just read it's not compatible with windows MCE, which prolly means it's just a framegrabber
[21:04:06] juski: tvtime is a v4l TV viewing app
[21:04:07] riddlebox: Imaginativeone, if you have setup everything in mythtv-setup then I would assume yes

[22:09:28] Leebier: can anyone even give me an idea of where to look to solve this problem? i'm not seeing anything obvious on gossamer threads. Any time i try to captuer video the system goes through a hard freeze. It worked when i went through the guide the first time. By the time i got myth set up, it now freezes. I've reverted to my old modprobe.conf and no help
[22:11:16] Leebier: i even went back to running X on the monitor (rather than the TV)
[22:11:31] Leebier: commented out all the lirc bits from my modprobe in case the order was the issue

[22:27:56] eidolon: but you're still losing image quality with going with a 320x200 image.
[22:28:33] GreyFoxx: eidolon: Well it depends on your display medium size and how much you have to scale the video for display

[22:29:35] GreyFoxx: But if you are watching on a Standard def TV, then 544x480/640x480/720x480 avoids scaling artifacts
[22:29:48] GreyFoxx: eidolon: That's about average
[22:29:50] eidolon: *nod*
