[00:00:03] schtinky: dansmith: I mean I already have it installed
[00:00:15] FairWtns: Juski: I'll check, but it's SD I'm capturing at. I think it might be a problem as my X-rez is not square (LCDTV)
[00:00:42] FairWtns: Juski: Perhaps I can switch from nvidia to "nv" driver to see...
[00:00:51] schtinky: I'm on a 64-bit machine... does mythtv just not know where to find the lame libraries?
[00:00:57] Juski: FairWtns: could be your lcd tv not locking to the video properly
[00:01:21] Juski: FairWtns: try it on a proper monitor – see if it goes away
[00:01:21] bocaJ: Sorry for being a newb, but what permissions would I have to change to allow all users to connect to the mythbackend?
[00:01:27] FairWtns: Juski: This is possible, and it's been so long, I can't ever remember if it displayed correctly originally.
[00:01:40] Juski: bocaJ: try looking in the mythtv.org docs
[00:02:15] FairWtns: Juski: I wonder though, if it's a signal lock problem, why is it only on playback (i.e. not the frontend menus) and why not on xine/mplayer videos?
[00:02:39] Anduin: schtinky: possibly, it is also possible you don't have the -devel libs
[00:02:56] schtinky: Anduin: no, it's not possible. I have the devel libs installed
[00:03:10] Juski: FairWtns: definitely sounds like a clock/video driver issue to me
[00:03:44] schtinky: [root@localhost mythtv-0.19]# "rpm -qa | grep lame-devel" output: lame-devel-3.96.1–6.lvn5
[00:04:03] Juski: in pause, mythtv isn't updating the screen at all (other than update the time in a paused on going recording), but the video wouldn't be jumping around
[00:04:13] FairWtns: Juski: Agreed. So where to go from here? If I lug a monitor up and connect that, and there is still an issue, I'm going to go with the video card?
[00:04:18] Anduin: schtinky: libs in /usr/lib64?
[00:04:22] grevees (grevees!n=sean_han@12-205-151-214.client.mchsi.com) has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[00:04:40] Juski: FairWtns: yeh or the drivers. I can't see it being anything else. Could be wrong though
[00:05:03] Juski: right I'm off to bed.. got an announcement to make in the morning :)
[00:05:14] FairWtns: I think I'm going to start with a more standard rez. I.e. 1024x768 instead of 1280x720.
[00:05:20] FairWtns: Juski: Thanks for the help.
[00:05:24] schtinky: anduin: yes
[00:06:08] Anduin: schtinky: is that in /etc/ld.so.conf?

I just upgraded my kernel & ivtv, and when I try to watch livetv I get this error in mythbackend: VIDIOCGMBUF:: Invalid argument. and in frontend: StartRecorder() — timed out waiting for recorder to start. Has anyone seen this before? I've looked around the mailing list but can't find any solution.

[00:42:10] monkeyBox: hmm
[00:42:15] Anduin: monkeyBox: You need to set the card type right.

[01:22:16] FairWtns: pushpop: Usually distro-dependent. I think the easiest way is to run: mythfrontend -v all > somefile.txt
[01:22:50] FairWtns: That'll direct it to a file. Or you could forgo everything after the ">" and just watch. It's less efficient, but more matrix-cool like.
[01:23:14] FairWtns: Actually, everything after the "all" as the ">" wouldn't be necessary either.
[01:24:05] ** pushpop scratches head **
[01:24:17] pushpop: arc@mythfrontend:/var/log$ sudo mythfrontend -v all >
[01:24:17] pushpop: bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
[01:24:19] FairWtns: You can look for certain things also. I know the backend can set specific levels (try: mythbackend -v help) and the frontend should as well.
[01:24:42] FairWtns: pushpop: Yeah, my bad, just mythfrontend -v all will direct it to the screen.
[01:25:00] FairWtns: The "> somefile.txt" part redirects to a file.

[01:37:06] Anduin: monkeyBox: Probably the invisible live TV recordings being swapped.
[01:37:17] GreyFoxx: pushpop: the plugins, which mythvideo is, do not talk to mythbackend
[01:37:38] GreyFoxx: you will need to network mount the remote filesystem for the plugs to see the content

[03:56:48] hobophobe: or I guess I need to add a mysql db for mythtv?

[04:03:14] ShockValue: blahhh
[04:03:26] ShockValue: so i got myphpadmin setup for mysql, and now it wont let me log in
[04:03:36] ShockValue: this is turning into a collosal waste of time
[04:03:43] hobophobe: Not if you learn from it
[04:03:56] hobophobe: If you learn from it, nothing is a waste of time
[04:04:42] Anduin: ShockValue: do it as the mysql root user, if that user is blocked there are instructions for resetting it
[04:05:04] Anduin: hobophobe: Your normal user would need a ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt file
[04:05:21] ShockValue: i can log into mysql from the command line as root, but phpmyadmin wont take the same credentials
[04:07:02] ShockValue: all i wanna do it fix the permissions on my mythconverg database.. ive totally hacked it up somehow
[04:07:28] hobophobe: Database error was: Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
[04:08:26] ShockValue: yes that :)
[04:09:01] ShockValue: so i went about learning to install apache, and php, and myphpadmin so i could get a good picture of what was going on
[04:09:02] hobophobe: err, that's my problem actually
[04:09:11] ShockValue: i have the same one
[04:09:17] Anduin: hobophobe: Did you mc.sql?
[04:09:44] hobophobe: I tried to? There is a ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt
[04:09:45] Anduin: ShockValue: so edit the user table manually
[04:10:07] ShockValue: know of a howto for a freakin-newb mysql like me?
[04:10:08] Anduin: hobophobe: The mysql.txt just contains the MySQL user/password/database name
[04:10:43] Anduin: ShockValue: maybe the MySQL one, I know there are many guides on basic admin tasks related to users.
[04:10:50] hobophobe: so then.. I should mysql -u mythtv -p < mc.sql ?
[04:11:01] Anduin: hobophobe: Did you ever do that?
[04:11:24] hobophobe: I tried to, it says access denied
[04:11:28] Anduin: hobophobe: mc.sql should create the base database and perms for mythtv, you shouldn't get far without it.
[04:11:42] hobophobe: Yeah, I'm just setting up mythtv for first time
[04:11:46] Anduin: hobophobe: The first time you do it as root
[04:11:55] hobophobe: ah that'd be the problem then :o)
[04:12:05] Dagmar: Notably, the first time you do it *exactly as the documentation says*
[04:12:22] Anduin: hobophobe: Yeah, there is no mythtv user until mc.sql is run (just need to use the MySQL root user)
[04:12:37] Anduin: and yes, naturally, all documented

[04:17:50] ShockValue: " " = blank space
[04:18:09] Anduin: ShockValue: Yeah time to limit it to one mythtv user
[04:18:28] Anduin: hobophobe: You need to run mythtv-setup again
[04:18:36] ShockValue: yeah, i'd be happy to dump the whole user DB and make 1 user (as long as i could keep my myth settings)
[04:19:17] Anduin: ShockValue: "delete from user where user = 'mythtv';" then re-add, flush, etc
[04:19:20] ShockValue: sorry, i know this is kinda newb stuff, i just have never used a DB before

[04:20:48] ShockValue: that was the point of myphpadmin, but i couldnt get that to log in :)
[04:21:39] Anduin: ShockValue: Yeah, that is probably some "not allowed from a network connection" issue, I'm sure there are instructions for your distro to get things working.

[11:21:30] LabMonkey: like through the menu the way I cut my commercials
[11:23:27] Juski: see the 'user jobs' section in the wiki
[11:23:36] LabMonkey: roger that
[11:23:37] LabMonkey: thanks
[11:25:01] Juski: like "roger that, for a game of soldiers" ? or something else? ;-)
[11:27:57] LabMonkey: erm
[11:28:09] LabMonkey: like "understood"
[11:28:14] LabMonkey: from an ex-sailor
[11:28:48] LabMonkey: I searched the wiki for 'user jobs' and got a "User Jobs" page
[11:29:05] LabMonkey: but there isn't anything on that page that says anything about how to execute the job that I can tell
[11:29:56] Juski: seemed pretty clear to me. okay it could have been explained better but it's not unfathomable
[11:30:38] croppa (croppa!i=user72@135.27.233.220.exetel.com.au) has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[11:31:09] LabMonkey: well if you mean JobAllowUserJob1 I'm not sure that's what i want
[11:32:25] LabMonkey: unless taht means that with a particular recording set to "Allow User Job #" then it will run that user job whenever you run Transcode...
[11:32:32] LabMonkey: it's just... kinda confusing to me
[11:32:56] Juski: the job command can be anything you like but it's normally to run a script of some sort
[11:33:48] LabMonkey: I make my cutlist by hand, then run transcode from the menu to cut the commercials out. next I want to transcode it to divx at ~350MB/hr
[11:33:51] LabMonkey: but
[11:34:08] LabMonkey: some shows are letterboxed so I want to use a different user job for them which changes the aspect ratio
[11:34:13] Juski: there are scripts to do that already.. linked from the wiki page IIRC
[11:34:47] Juski: in that case you'd be better off using nuvexport which allows you to be more specific
[11:35:32] Juski: or you could have different job scripts and run them selectively on different recordings
[11:36:04] LabMonkey: yeah nuvexport kinda confuses me
[11:36:12] LabMonkey: since my recordings are already mpeg
[11:36:24] LabMonkey: hardware encoder card
[11:39:42] Juski: nuvexport can do xvid though
[11:39:54] Juski: hell it can even do mp3...

[23:41:54] dansmith_: "Gray" looks good, except that the progress bar is too shaded and the 16 grays (or whatever) look grainy
[23:42:06] Juski: e4: XBMC can work with mythtv (xbmcmythtv) but livetv doesnt work in it
[23:43:46] GreyFoxx: dansmith_: I've never actually tried GrayOSD with XvMC tosee how it looked . I suppose Ishould have heh
[23:44:13] ** GreyFoxx Happily never has to use XvMC so Ididn't consider it : **
[23:45:01] e4: yeah, I'm reading up on it
[23:45:18] e4: also, looks like XBMC needs to be updated a bit before it's ready to work with current codecs
[23:45:33] dansmith_: GreyFoxx: it looks good except for the progress bar :)
[23:45:38] Duke7953: Are there any good instructions on how to have a development MythTv env, and also the RPM environment? It appear that my problem is fixed in a development version of Myth, but I would like to have to option to run both.
[23:46:08] dansmith_: GreyFoxx: ah, it's yours eh? :)
[23:46:17] GreyFoxx: dansmith_: Yeah
[23:46:25] dansmith_: GreyFoxx: cool

[23:46:50] Juski: e4: if you juse use mpeg2 it'll be fine (e.g. PVR card or DVB tuners)
[23:47:01] dansmith_: GreyFoxx: some 16-color shade of flat gray for the progress bar would make it the ideal XvMC OSD theme, I think :)
[23:47:12] Juski: and IMHO folks shouldn't be bothering with software encoding cack anyway :)
[23:47:28] e4: yeah, I'd really like to up the compression to mpeg-4/xvid
[23:47:37] Juski: dansmith_: so break out your fave bitmap editor :)
[23:47:49] kormoc: Duke7953, depends on the linux distro you pick
[23:47:50] Juski: e4: bah. HDD space has never been cheaper
[23:47:59] e4: true, I suppose
[23:48:01] kormoc: Duke7953, and honestly, it's likely gonna be more work then it's worth for you
[23:48:02] dansmith_: Juski: I haven't looked at what is inside a theme.. I suppose I should do that :P
[23:48:28] GreyFoxx: The progress bar is just an png that gets stretched over the area depending on how big it';s supposeto be
[23:48:29] e4: how big will an average 45 minute video clip be encoded to mpeg-2?
[23:48:33] Juski: mythtv needs more people insane enough to take on making themes.. erm.. i mean needs more themes
[23:48:38] GreyFoxx: you could easily pull it into an editor and convert it to grayscale
[23:48:41] kormoc: e4, depends on the bitrate really
[23:49:08] dansmith_: GreyFoxx: which .png is it?
[23:49:10] ** dansmith_ is looking **
[23:49:17] e4: heh average tv, smoothed out, and a crisp image Kormoc?
[23:49:23] kormoc: e4, at the 'default' 2200 kb/s, it's something like just under 2 gigs a hour or so
[23:49:28] e4: that's not bad
[23:49:34] Klink: what is preferential when recording via firewire? broadcast or p2p...and what if you cannot set either on your set top box
[23:49:44] GreyFoxx: dansmith_: fill_green.png
[23:49:50] e4: I have 750Gb of space right now, guess I should not worry about it then, heh
[23:49:53] e4: thanks guys!
[23:50:00] GreyFoxx: and fill_red.png (for show cut areas in edit mode)
[23:50:02] dansmith_: GreyFoxx: heh, stealthy name for such a thing :)
[23:50:04] kormoc: Klink, well, it's a eather or, so if neather of them work, you're a bit out of luck, no?
[23:50:33] dansmith_: GreyFoxx: or maybe not, I haven't seen it in color mode :P
[23:50:45] Klink: Kormoc: it would appear so...my cable provider (shaw) must have mucked up the firmware some how
[23:51:22] kormoc: e4, I have 129 programs, using 142 GB, which is 3 days, 18 hours and 2 minutes of shows
[23:52:47] Klink: kormoc: the stb is a mot dct6200
[23:53:18] kormoc: Klink, you should talk to SlicerDicer- whenever he's active in here, he has 3 of those boxes
[23:53:31] Juski: e4: I regularly delete over 300GB of recordings I'm never gonna watch, but this way I almost always have _something_ to watch :)
[23:53:47] k-man_ (k-man_!n=jason@unaffiliated/k-man) has joined #mythtv-users
[23:54:02] e4: haha, crazy!
[23:54:26] kormoc: you know it's bad when you have 3 days of shows and none of them are any good :P
[23:54:40] e4: wait for BSG to kick back up :)
[23:55:55] Juski: I watched one episode of that & deleted the series
[23:56:01] Juski: hey ho
[23:58:39] e4: lies!
