[00:27:06] workman161: 0.1?
[00:27:43] workman161: I've got 0.19 right now, and I'm waiting for smartpm to update the cache over my nasty internet to see if there are any updates from atrpms

[00:34:49] workman161: and netstat shows mythweb's socket still stuck at close_wait
[00:37:21] kormoc: workman161, you need mythbackend and mythweb's versions to be identical
[00:38:01] workman161: I hadn't updated anything since a few minutes ago, so everything was in sync from the day I installed fedora on the box 3 weeks ago
[00:38:20] workman161: and if you notice, there is no REJECT response to that command sent.

[01:19:24] J-e-f-f-A: ..PVR250 would be recognized by myth, but with the wrong inputs (Have PVR-250 and PVR-500 – the 500 works fine, 250 is not...)
[01:19:30] J-e-f-f-A: (sorry, hit enter by mistake)
[01:20:19] workman161: I wouldn't know
[01:20:42] J-e-f-f-A: IE: Testing via cat </dev/video0 >test.mpg only works with svideo when 'input 1' is selected, not 'input 4' like it's supposed to... (The 500 works fine with input 4 on both tuners)
[01:21:10] J-e-f-f-A: Actually, I'm an idiot...
[01:21:37] J-e-f-f-A: I think I only set the ivtvctrl commands for /video0 ... thus the 500 would have defaulted to '1'...
[01:21:42] Aid`: why?
[01:22:27] Aid`: honest mistake, yourr no idoit
[01:22:32] J-e-f-f-A: Humm... now to figure out why the backend doesn't want to work with them... (The PVR-250 is video0, the 500 is video1 and video2)
[01:23:57] benderz0r (benderz0r!n=bender@dsl-58-6-116-113.qld.westnet.com.au) has quit ()
[01:24:24] J-e-f-f-A: I wouldn't be in this predicament (sp?) if I had setup my backups before my backend's system hdd crashed... I had everything working nearly perfect... 3x Dish receivers feeding PVR-250 & PVR-500 and a HD3000 — mythweb, mythstreamtv.. etc everything worked perfect... Oh well, live and learn, right!
[01:25:02] Aid`: how did you change channels?
[01:25:52] J-e-f-f-A: With a serial IR blaster I built myself. The three receivers have different ir codes, so I just needed three shell scripts to do send the commands to lirc.
[01:26:22] Aid`: What I like About getting a Satellite Tuner card is that you can record the 'whole' satellite signal then later go backand pick which shows you want to watch

[01:28:19] Aid`: J-e-f-f-A: im in the states there's a pretty good satellite w/free
[01:28:33] Aid`: The show types are more limited but, hey its free
[01:28:58] J-e-f-f-A: Aid`: The old 'big dish' stuff? How many channels are left nowadays?
[01:29:15] J-e-f-f-A: Aid`: Plus it's analog, right?
[01:29:42] Aid`: well it isn't C-band, its the higher freq range: KU Band. Most of the stuff on c-band and ku are digital now a days
[01:30:51] Aid`: There's a very good premium movie channel, HD on c-band for free its considered 'the best of stars and showtime'
[01:31:03] J-e-f-f-A: Aid`: Really? What type of equipment do you need (besides a large dish) Is it expensive?
[01:31:09] Greveees: Anyone been able to run DVB + PVR 500 together??
[01:32:00] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: I was running a HD3000 and PVR500 successfully for several months before my OS hdd crashed.
[01:32:08] Aid`: J-e-f-f-A: for that movie channel you would need a big dish and a Satellite tuner card. You could get the big dish for free probably from someone's yard and then the card costs 80$
[01:32:49] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Unfortunately I'm not setup 100% yet again, so I can't feed you any configs, but I can testify that mine worked well together.
[01:33:07] Greveees: hmm, what distro you run?
[01:33:16] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: FC4
[01:33:35] Greveees: cause I got the same setup (HDTV3000+PVR500+SS2)
[01:33:36] Aid`: And then on the KU freq you can get like 3 Wb's, ABCs, UPNs, RetroTelevision, FOX's, and then tons of spanish programming
[01:33:59] Greveees: Myth sees the 2 DVB cards (dvb0, dvb1)
[01:34:00] test34 (test34!n=test34@unaffiliated/test34) has quit ("Leaving")
[01:34:07] J-e-f-f-A: Aid`: Do you have to re-point the dish, or is that all from 1 sat?
[01:34:21] Greveees: but comes up empty on video0,video1
[01:34:26] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Is the SS2 a HD tuner?
[01:34:39] Greveees: no, DVB-S
[01:34:43] Aid`: the KU is all on 1 satellite, and one polarity so you can record up to about 35 channels at once (thats if your hd can handle it)
[01:34:50] Greveees: sry for the shorthand, SkyStar2
[01:35:10] John1 (John1!n=jchat@pool-71-100-93-114.tampfl.dsl-w.verizon.net) has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))

[01:35:35] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Humm... So your PVR-500 isn't recognized/initialized?
[01:35:49] Aid`: Greveees: your having a problem with SkyStar2?
[01:35:50] Greveees: Well, what am I looking for in the Dmesg?
[01:36:03] Greveees: nope, both come up in the setup screen
[01:36:16] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: It should show up if you do "dmesg |grep Initialized"
[01:36:52] Greveees: I am able to tab through both, and Myth says they are both recognized... Tring to at least get the 500 running, get everythig set, then run the wires fomkr my dish and HD-Antenna once I'm 100% positive it all works
[01:37:04] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Like this: ivtv0: Initialized Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250, card #0

[01:39:11] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Did you put your aliases in /etc/modprobe.conf?
[01:39:16] Greveees: I've been at this since 10 AM Central time (approx 9–10 hours)
[01:39:53] Greveees: bad thing is I checked for my modprobe.conf, and I don;t have one... Seems liek Suse built EVERYTHING inot the kernel, no modules
[01:40:12] Greveees: checked the kernel, not a single (m)
[01:40:18] Greveees: all (*)
[01:40:47] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Ah.. SUSE... Humm... I don't know if that makes a difference for the dmesg messages...
[01:41:27] Greveees: Shouldn't.... I've tried looking for any modules, anywhere, and come up empty each time
[01:42:31] Greveees: man, I'm at wits end here.... not a very knowledgable Linux guy, and really all I can do is look for solutions on the net  :(

[01:44:20] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: A quick 'google' turned up this site... http://www.zeitgeist.net/SuSE/ maybe it will help?
[01:45:02] workman161: Greveees: then make /etc/modprobe.conf with those 2 lines and see what happens

[01:58:37] Greveees: no, didn't
[01:58:46] J-e-f-f-A: Beirdo: Do you do 'device driver' stuff for work, or is this just your hobby?
[01:58:47] Greveees: I have to actually vreate that dir then???

[02:48:03] Greveees: nope, precompiled
[02:48:26] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Is there a /lib/firmware directory?
[02:48:49] Greveees: yes
[02:49:38] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: I've found a message via google that mentions having to move it to /lib/firmware  – even though the ivtv doc says /usr/bin/hotplug/firmware — So try that and see what happens...
[02:49:54] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: (Or put them in both places...)

[02:53:53] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: (It's basically seen as two seperate PVR-150's, although I think IVTV now 'properly' identifies it as a PVR-500)

[02:57:21] Greveees: ok, yeah, both places
[02:57:28] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: The good news is that ivtv does appear to be part of your kernel, so just getting the firmware files in the right place should make it work...
[02:58:51] J-e-f-f-A: Greveees: Now to figure out the right place... Since /lib/firmware and /usr/bin/hotplug/firmware don't seem to be the right place... Maybe do a locate on 'firmware' and see what else turns up?

[09:52:25] Juski: [pyro]: don't go overboard with the PoS factor. If you wanna play back HD, you'd prolly be better off having a faster CPU in that than in the backend

In knoppmyth i had to set my tunertype to 50 to get anything to work. I assume i have to do the same thing in ubuntu – how do i change this setting in ubuntu?
[15:30:09] qu0zl: that's probably an argument to the tuner module, try and find where your tuner module is loaded. maybe /etc/modules

[15:50:04] qu0zl: it works out the path for you based on what kernel is running and some standard paths
[15:50:09] Z_Morek: well it's just that I installed the nvidia legacy driver and I symlinked the modules but when I startx it essentially opens a box in the lopleft and leaves a lot of dead space

[15:51:45] qu0zl: check out the link i gave you, you put 'ivtv' in your /etc/modules, and put any necessary options in /etc/modules.conf
[15:51:54] qu0zl: then those options are used whenever you modprobe the module.
[15:52:09] fusion_05: ok.

[17:19:07] Ryushin: mchou: You can't change channels.

[17:30:46] zePh7r: mchou, so I can't have my ss2 decoding a channel and sending it over lan?
[17:31:16] mchou: zePh7r: you can, but why would you use myth for that?
[17:31:33] mchou: zePh7r: there are better tools for that than myth
[17:32:15] mchou: zePh7r: myth tv is pvr. not some sort of "live tv" streaming tool

[17:32:54] mchou: that's the whole point of a PVR
[17:33:43] zePh7r: mchou, I though myth was supposed to be used as a "media center" and that it would also have abilities to stream a dvb channel over lan to other computers, for example
[17:34:25] mchou: myth is way better at streaming pre-recorded stuff
[17:34:47] zePh7r: mchou, so what you are saying is that mythtv is like a way of organising a collection of videos and delivering them over lan?

[19:50:10] sigger: makes sense. knoppmyth sets "TV" res at 800x600, which isn't tv and I'm not sure my video has a native tv mode.
[19:51:11] sigger: I would think that, absent a native mode match, higher res would give better matching, no?

[21:39:59] mishehu: Juski: I bet they don't work as a pool of recorders either
[21:40:04] doctormo: mishehu: assuming the database works... which in my case it doesn't because it's used for other things. so mythtv just freaks out
[21:40:17] Juski: oh yeah I'm _always_ forgetting that freevo is all-in-one-box-or-else
[21:40:18] mishehu: doctormo: I beg to differ, it works fine for m e.
[21:40:37] doctormo: mishehu: you can hardly bed to differ that it doesn't work for me.
[21:40:57] mishehu: doctormo: perhaps the problem is how your (mis)using it?
[21:41:27] Juski: for the little bit of hassle setting it up properly (which lets be honest isn't that hard if you read the right docs & understand them) it brings a wealth of great features unseen on other apps (which don't use databases)
[21:41:33] mishehu: I'll admit, if you set it up from scratch yourself with something like gentoo or slackware, it's not hte easiest thing to learn.
[21:42:00] mishehu: Juski: if you do everything from source it can be a bitch the first time or two to get everything working ;-)

[21:42:54] doctormo: mishehu: no you dummy I know how to use mysql.
[21:43:15] Anduin: mishehu: partially, he is mixing it up with random thoughts/annoyances

[21:43:37] ** mishehu gets out a stamper ready just in case... heh **
[21:43:44] Juski: all this is fine & dandy but doctormo hasn't actually specifically said what's wrong yet
[21:43:58] laga: doctormo: suliking database. yeah. and you're its sulking user. it's just a mysql -u root < mc.sql and you're done, there's no black magic involved
[21:44:05] mishehu: Juski: yeah, I noticed. just random generalizations.
[21:44:24] mishehu: laga: odd, I don't even remember having to do that either.
[21:44:46] jams: most packages take care of that for you
[21:44:48] mishehu: I thought recent versions of myth automatically generate the schema if it doesn't exist.
[21:44:57] mishehu: unless I'm being senile...
[21:45:08] jams: mishehu- you still need to create the database
[21:45:13] laga: mishehu: mc.sql just creates the user and the mythconverg db, mythtv inserts everything else.
[21:45:16] mishehu: aaah
[21:45:16] doctormo: laga: well done, you've managed to proivde something even mysqls offical docs fail to do.
[21:45:26] laga: doctormo: huh?
[21:45:35] mishehu: jams: it's just the "create database mythconverg; GRANT blahblahblah" commands
[21:45:43] mishehu: I did that manually heh
[21:45:47] doctormo: laga: it worked
[21:45:49] jams: mishehu- yeah I know
[21:45:54] Juski: doctormo: wth does mysql -u root < mc.sql have to do with the mysql official docs?
[21:46:11] mishehu: actually, mysql's official docs DO say how to do that
[21:46:19] mishehu: I think we caught us a troll, guys
[21:46:37] laga: doctormo: oh my god. you know what? this is not in the official mysql docs, it's in the official mythtv docs. and you have obviously no clue about mysql. or RTFM, for that matter.
[21:47:21] mishehu: laga: how to load text files containing sql statements IS in the mysql docs too ;-)
[21:47:27] ** stuarta loses interest **
[21:47:47] Juski: time to svn update
[21:47:51] laga: mishehu: yeah. but why read them when it's covered in the mythtv docs? :)
[21:48:17] doctormo: laga: you don't take thanks well do you. your example managed to reset the password, mysql already contains the mc.sql schema so that wasn't a problem.
[21:48:19] Juski: stuarta: been thru almost every menu & I've had no errors about missing stuff... so I'll svn update & see what happens
[21:48:32] mishehu: laga: hey, you got 2 places to be able to find it now for the price of none! heh
[21:49:10] mishehu: doctormo: for somebody who says he knows mysql, I'm rather surpised that you couldn't do that manually yourself.
[21:49:13] laga: mishehu: price of none.. yeah.
[21:49:24] Juski: Retro has an OSD now? ooo

[21:50:25] doctormo: mishehu: yes information is magic isn't it, when the offical mysql docs tell you to do one thing which doesn't work but someone in a forum gives you a clue to a mysql command which when tweaked workes. my god.
[21:50:25] Juski: stuarta: just the watermarks? I'd be happy at that :)
[21:51:08] Juski: right. how do I go about submitting my scripty thing? anyone feel up to checking it before I get laughed off the planet?
[21:51:22] mishehu: doctormo: well, I guess what you mean by "knowing" it is that you know how to install the program and configure it to run, but you don't actually know how to do SQL'y type things with it eh?
[21:51:37] mishehu: they'd be two different types of "knowing"
[21:51:38] jams: Juski- what is it written in?
[21:51:42] Juski: jams: perl
[21:52:02] mishehu: doctormo: you can always read the mc.sql file and see what it does.
[21:52:12] doctormo: mishehu: I know what it does.

[21:53:01] Juski: I might've done it in bash had there been anything up here (points to brain) about using it with mysql ;)
[21:53:20] jams: ah that would have been pretty simple
[21:53:29] jams: oh well you have a perl script now
[21:53:53] Juski: hahahah You don't have permission to access /foo/dvbradioexport.pl on this server
[21:54:50] Juski: oh crap. rename it as .txt & the server still thinks... blech

[21:57:48] jams: I know I don't
[21:57:49] ** stuarta wonders if that's on Greyfoxx's todo list. **
[21:57:54] Juski: some guy emailed me to say pg-wide was broken with SVN, with a patch :)
[21:57:55] doctormo: How does mythtv deal with set top boxes?
[21:58:17] mishehu: doctormo: you either need something like an irblaster or if it's firewire it can do that too
[21:58:27] jams: I think midnight-wide will work but not for sure about square
[21:58:29] stuarta: doctormo: if you have a cable box, it can receive the feed via firewire.
[21:58:41] Juski: no firewire-enabled cable boxen in the UK
[21:58:44] mishehu: stuarta: not all stb's have firewire of course.
[21:58:56] stuarta: no, that's the states.
[21:58:58] Juski: certainly not from NTL
[21:59:07] stuarta: or $ky
[21:59:23] doctormo: Juski: guess what I have
[21:59:55] Juski: oh and NTL boxen come in 3 or 4 flavours.. Pace 1000, Pace 2000, Pace 4000, & Samsung. the 1st two use a protocol like IrDA for their remotes (fugly)
[22:00:07] jams: heh I worked with time warner for 3–4 weeks trying to get a firewire port. Finally got one and still haven't done a thing with it
[22:00:12] Juski: doctormo: NTL?
[22:00:37] doctormo: NTL box
[22:00:49] ** stuarta attempts authoring a dvd with 4 recordings **

[22:01:05] doctormo: SMT
[22:01:20] Juski: if it's a Pace 1000 or 2000 series you can't just use a regular IR blaster (www.redremote.co.uk IIRC)
[22:01:36] Juski: SMT 2100c? analogue or digital?
[22:01:47] doctormo: digital
[22:01:51] stuarta: the good news is. Tonight is the last night of BB.
[22:02:01] doctormo: stuarta: Big Brother?
[22:02:08] Juski: samsung digital. uses rc-5 & I've got the codes stashed away here somewhere
[22:02:11] stuarta: unfortunately
[22:02:17] Juski: the bad news: X factor starts again tomorrow
[22:02:27] doctormo: stuarta: then tomorow is the good news
[22:02:34] stuarta: at least that doesn't broadcast 24hrs!
[22:02:45] jams: Juski- whats X factor?
[22:02:51] stuarta: shit
[22:02:58] doctormo: does mythtv include a stupid flag with it's advert flag?
[22:03:14] jams: something like "fear factor" ?
[22:03:23] mishehu: what's the advert flag?
[22:03:27] Juski: jams: car-crash television where wannabe popstars get humiliated
[22:03:28] doctormo: Juski: rc-5?
[22:03:31] stuarta: karaoke gone wrong = X factor
[22:03:38] Juski: doctormo: an infra-red control protocol
[22:03:41] jams: ah
[22:03:45] kormoc: jammyd, Fear Factor to the eXtreme!
[22:03:57] doctormo: Juski: how does it work?
[22:04:00] Juski: http://chrismi.com/pages/samsung/ ... damn, so that's why my cable box is always locking up

[22:04:54] jams: that is bad news !
[22:04:54] doctormo: no we had that too it was called pop idol
[22:05:46] Juski: X-factor would be like the 'solo' version of pop idol
[22:06:01] Juski: actually no they have 'bands' too
[22:06:09] Juski: dammit it's all just shite anyway, same difference
[22:06:45] doctormo: Juski: so if I understand you, I buy an IR remote control and a robotic arm to press the right buttons?
[22:07:27] Juski: doctormo: no you can use voice commands if you have the right remote
[22:07:44] Juski: or if you live with somebody
[22:08:26] ** jams remote talks back to me **
[22:08:52] Juski: back in the 1970s we had a voice-controlled TV changer
[22:09:03] doctormo: Juski: I think what I mean is, how can I get the computer to change the channel on the SMT 2100c set top box, hopefully without buying IR hardware... would have thought something in the SCART would allow channel changing for VCRs
[22:09:54] Juski: doctormo: heh. if only. NTL had Pace & Samsung disable their IR blaster ports (direct connections to allow the use of IR extenders to input remote control signals)
[22:10:08] c4t3l (c4t3l!n=c4t3l@69.15.174.114) has quit (Remote closed the connection)

[22:13:25] hads|home: There's only one mention of scart on that page.
[22:13:40] Juski: .. which will suck cos the latest 'update' from NTL makes channel changes take about 5 seconds

[22:16:37] Juski: the samsung box has USB too
[22:17:12] Juski: that'd be nifty.. use USB to rip the digital tv right off the cable
[22:17:16] jams: heh not for sure if I added it or not. Just know I had it marked as todo
[22:17:18] Juski: but nah

[22:19:43] Juski: I shudder when I think what mythui is going to bring for theme designers in terms of changes
[22:20:05] Juski: I can see the advantages of that
[22:20:20] jams: yeah big advantages, big initial pain
[22:20:24] Juski: editing ui.xml is a PITA
[22:20:33] jams: yeah it is
[22:20:45] Juski: too easy to lose track of which bit you're editing
[22:21:04] jams: lots of replication in the file
[22:21:36] Juski: I put overscan markers on a background graphic in pm-wide a while back & they made it into a release I did

[22:23:44] doctormo: Juski: looking at SCART it does have a D2B pins, Data Bus which was supposed to be used for Home automation including tv channel switching
[22:24:22] Juski: doctormo: splitting hairs now...if it were possible on NTL STBs it'd be documented by now I'd have thought
[22:24:59] Juski: I work with somebody who has tivo with telewest .. he has to use IR to change channels
[22:26:05] doctormo: Juski: wow I can't believe how technolledgy goes backwards sometimes.
[22:26:22] Juski: jams: this brings me back to the big thing I'm still planning to do at some point – rework the UI sizing code so you move markers around instead of entering numbers :)

[22:28:31] jams: without a mouse?
[22:28:52] Juski: yeah. I've seen it on 2 different things now – XBMC and a linuxy cable box
[22:29:28] Juski: the util puts a triangle at the top left (ish) and one at the bottom right (ish).. one is highlighted at a time & you move it with arrow buttons
[22:29:50] Juski: press a key to highlight the other triangle and move it... then press another key when you're done. ta-da :)
[22:31:32] Juski: the diff. between the axes in the positions of the triangles gives you the scaling factor and the absolute position gives you the offsets

[23:39:07] grevees: still nothing, it cannot connect to the database
[23:40:18] Juski: you don't have to restart mysql for user perms to take effect do you?

[23:41:44] grevees: Anduin, should the command you showed me have user then have the root password where it says (No default value)
[23:42:06] grevees: i.e. user <root password>
[23:42:59] claybo: Hey everyone. Sorry, this is a little off-topic, but I have a machine with a GeForce 6200 in it. I have MythVideo's player set to "Internal" right now, but it's been having a lot of problems and I want to switch back to mplayer. What is the best command-line setting for mplayer so that video playback is smooth and accurate for XvMC?
[23:43:15] Juski: claybo: see the mythtv wiki for that
[23:43:24] claybo: Juski, cool. I'll take a quick look. Thanks.
[23:43:53] Anduin: grevees: if you set the root password (as instructed on that page), then there should be something there, not that we care about your root user (it works, and apparently has a password), you are looking for the mythtv user.
[23:45:43] grevees: notta, all I got is just plain user, not mythtv user
[23:45:54] Juski: claybo: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/XvMC#MPlayer
[23:48:39] Anduin: grevees: the mythconverg database exists (just replace the select with a show databases)?
[23:49:07] grevees: ?
[23:49:45] Anduin: grevees: go install a MySQL GUI program
[23:51:16] grevees: ok, again, (no default value)

[23:56:52] grevees: re-format/re-do everything?
[23:57:01] Anduin: grevees: I wouldn't
[23:57:21] grevees: well, since I really have no clue how to fix it... at all, I really don't knw what else to do
[23:58:08] Juski: well you know you have a fallback position, right? it works with the root mysql user for now
[23:58:44] Juski: if you had phpmyadmin installed it'd be easier to fix believe me
[23:58:58] Anduin: grevees: Worst case, reinstalling MySQL, much easier and faster than burning everything to the ground.
[23:59:18] Juski: yes!!!! I got the archive watermark in there. in your FACE
