[02:13:41] J-e-f-f-A: mos__ Not really — my system was running perfectly for a month or two straight on .18 — I upgraded to .19 for some of the new features --
[02:14:04] J-e-f-f-A: mos__ ie: channel changing across different sources (sattelite & HDTV tuner) without having to press "Y"

[02:17:57] J-e-f-f-A: mos__ tell me about it... I HATE the new keyboard layouts...  :-(
[02:18:09] mos__: insert is so far away....
[02:19:38] J-e-f-f-A: mos__ For me it two-fold — 1) I'm comfortable with the 'traditional' 101-key layout... and 2) I work with mainframe computers, and the function keys are used with them... They changed the grouping from 4-4–4 to 3-3-3–3 and it goofs up your brain, that wants to hit the 1st key in the 2nd set for "f5', when it's now the 2nd key in the 2nd set... ick...

[02:20:43] mos__: i havent even seen that, that would be majorly annoying
[02:20:51] J-e-f-f-A: stealth: That's the closed-captioning on top couple lines of the video signal.
[02:21:14] stealth: oh yea...interesting
[02:21:30] stealth: annoying though... perfect picture except for that
[02:21:34] J-e-f-f-A: stealth: I don't know if there's a way to configure myth to crop it on capture (don't think so), so you have to crop it with the playback controls. (I have mine set to 2% for both horizontal and vertical)
[02:24:00] J-e-f-f-A: stealth: on a normal tv, that's in the 'overscan' area that's off the visible part of the screen. So unless you set the size controls on your monitor to 'overscan' the picture, or set the crop percentage, you'll see that when you play it back on your pc.
[02:24:45] stealth: i see
[02:25:00] stealth: quick question semi ot.. digital cable .. is that mpeg over qam?
[02:25:42] mos__: no its not mpeg
[02:27:03] J-e-f-f-A: mos__ really? I though it was, at least the digital channels. I thought the only difference is that it's encrypted.
[02:27:05] stealth: so why am i using test-mpeg2? where is the conversion being done? what is it over the coax?
[02:27:22] stealth: i know the modulation is qam

[06:00:18] randy: monkeyBox? more details
[06:00:39] randy: are you using a gentoo ebuild, using a release, using the latest svn, what?
[06:02:35] Spida_ is now known as Spida
[06:04:36] monkeyBox: gentoo ebuild...
[06:05:13] monkeyBox: I'm doing an emerge world, I'm just going to emerge mythtv last.
[06:05:37] kormoc: so you're world isn't upto date?
[06:07:57] MaestroTech: I installed these packages on both my laptop and my desktop....strangely though, I only have the "Optical Drive" option on my laptop. I'm very confused.
[06:08:03] MaestroTech: MythDVD
[06:10:36] Pharrell (Pharrell!n=workstat@65.196.41.130) has left #mythtv-users ()
[06:11:34] randy: mythtv ebuild *should* pull in dependencies, I would do the following
[06:11:39] randy: emerge -C mythtv
[06:12:02] randy: backup your info ~/.mythtv, etc
[06:13:00] randy: remerge, if it still fails, use ~arch by echoing "media-tv/mythtv ~x86" >/etc/portage/package.keywords (or ~amd64)
[06:13:38] randy: To get the newest release, which works better.
[06:13:41] kormoc: randy, that won't help
[06:13:46] kormoc: well
[06:13:50] kormoc: cleaning the old version
[06:14:04] kormoc: in anycase, his issue is the tarball that downloaded isn't correct for some reason
[06:14:13] kormoc: it's missing vbilut.cpp
[06:14:35] randy: If his tarball is incorrect, emerge shouldn't happen at all, since the md5 checksum would fail
[06:14:43] kormoc: I know that
[06:14:44] randy: or maybe I'm missing something..
[06:15:15] kormoc: but the fact of the matter is, vbi_bit_reverse is defined in vbilut.cpp in libmyth's source
[06:16:00] randy: is he getting the tarball somewhere other than the rest of us?
[06:16:54] kormoc: unlikely
[06:17:02] kormoc: it should toss a md5 error no matter where he got it
[06:17:40] kormoc: it might be something odd in his useflags
[06:18:14] kormoc: say, he's missing one that has configure include the file, but also has one set that requires that file

[06:18:47] randy: perhaps, the only ones I have are alsa, dvd, lirc, open gl, can he tell us the output from "emerge -pv mythtv"
[06:19:38] randy: Its possible that he just needs to "emerge sync" if there was a small (unversioned) fix to broken portage

[06:20:02] kormoc: doubtful, given cardoe's been working on the ~x86 ones
[06:20:35] kormoc: noone has touched the stable one in a month or two afaik
[06:22:37] randy: perhaps he is using a (slightly) invalid/misconfigured toolchain
[06:22:49] kormoc: could be
[06:22:59] kormoc: just seems odd tho
[06:23:17] randy: yea
[06:24:55] randy: but if you say you are sure he is physically missing the required .cc, it must be portage- grabbing invalid tarball or mixing and matching patches which no longer apply cleanly
[06:26:03] randy: has he tried building from source by hand in a test directory
[06:27:06] kormoc: yeah, there's only one patch for 0.19 and it's just a gentoo build specific patch that doesn't touch anything that could cause this, as far as I can see
[06:28:06] kormoc: actually, myth 0.18.1 is still the x86 stable one
[06:28:09] ** kormoc pokes Cardoe **
[06:28:29] randy: It is probably something in his use flags- not that effects mythtv directly, but that effects his toolchain

[11:33:29] Juski: don't use livetv myself. such a 20th century notion ;-)
[11:34:22] WHiTE^^BOX: what do you use? :/
[11:34:47] Juski: I don't watch any livetv if I can help it – even when I do it has nothing to do with mythtv
[11:35:02] Juski: I timeshift everything I want to watch
[11:35:18] Juski: life's too short for watching random pap & channel surfing ;-)
[11:35:24] WHiTE^^BOX: so.. you only shedule recorords and watch them later
[11:35:45] WHiTE^^BOX: :/ -or
[11:35:50] WHiTE^^BOX: *records
[11:35:57] Juski: yep. I take it for granted that I might miss some stuff, but I've already got more recordings than I hgave time to watch anyway
[11:36:10] WHiTE^^BOX: lool
[11:36:12] WHiTE^^BOX: hehe
[11:37:04] Juski: I still catch trailers for new shows, and read newspapers etc for tips on upcoming shows & series
[11:37:11] WHiTE^^BOX: sooo.... you wouldnt know how to get a "live recording" to the "default" filter list.. so i will be sure it wont be deleted
[11:37:38] Juski: never tried it
[11:37:39] WHiTE^^BOX: *livetv recording
[11:37:44] WHiTE^^BOX: hmm.. damn
[11:37:53] Juski: I think you might be able to move a recording to a different group though...
[11:38:00] WHiTE^^BOX: becouse.. all livetv is deleted.. a real bug :(
[11:38:19] WHiTE^^BOX: how?! @_@
[11:38:19] Juski: it's no bug at all – it's intended to work that way
[11:38:35] Juski: but you should be able to select a recording to never expire
[11:38:44] Juski: if that's not working then yes, it's a bug
[11:38:48] WHiTE^^BOX: huh.. but what i you see a nice music clip.. then goto shedule very quick.. ?
[11:39:09] Juski: time to do a test
[11:39:20] WHiTE^^BOX: yes.. i can select "never expire" but.. thats what i mean.. even then it will expire
[11:39:33] Juski: gonna record 5 minutes of livetv right now
[11:39:56] WHiTE^^BOX: i do the same..
[11:40:20] WHiTE^^BOX: **even if there is now way to keep that recording safe**
[11:42:15] Juski: WHiTE^^BOX: have you searched the mailing lists for information about this? It could be a problem in 0.19 that has been fixed in 0.19-fixes
[11:43:25] Juski: oh hell... that livetv recording has just vanished from the recorded shows list!!!!
[11:43:30] WHiTE^^BOX: a few day back i have been searching.. didnt find anything back then
[11:43:48] WHiTE^^BOX: thats what i mean :/
[11:44:29] Juski: time to look in the setup menus
[11:44:44] WHiTE^^BOX: nothing there..
[11:44:59] WHiTE^^BOX: well.. i didnt find anything

[11:48:05] Juski: sod that
[11:48:16] WHiTE^^BOX: no.. more .. like
[11:48:28] WHiTE^^BOX: look.. what i recorde...
[11:48:35] WHiTE^^BOX: ah.. never mind
[11:48:55] Juski: you can change the autoexpiry period to more than 1 day
[11:49:14] Juski: but that tv I just recorded took way less than 24 hours to be expired :-/
[11:49:21] Juski: I think I'd call that a bug
[11:49:30] Juski: probably worth trying 0.19-fixes
[11:49:31] WHiTE^^BOX: yes.. but what i want is that.. the "disable autoexpire" acctually works

[11:54:56] Juski: ahhh
[11:54:59] Juski: here we go...
[11:55:00] Juski: "Short LiveTV programs should be expired every 2 minutes (on even-numbered
[11:55:00] Juski: minutes) if they have not been in use for the past minute. This handles
[11:55:02] Juski: cleaning up all the short recordings left around from channel surfing."
[11:55:29] Juski: I don't know what the definition of 'short' is though
[11:56:31] Juski: and apparently you can change the group a recording belongs to
[11:57:45] WHiTE^^BOX: :/ where can i get 0.19-fixes?
[11:58:13] Juski: WHiTE^^BOX: there are no packages as far as I know. you need to compile it from source
[11:58:23] WHiTE^^BOX: 'short' is less that 2 minutes
[12:00:15] WHiTE^^BOX: i have the latest mythtv
[12:00:21] WHiTE^^BOX: or is there cvs?
[12:00:55] RaYmAn-Bx: haj: only problem with a 10 sec sleep time is that sound is gone for up to 10 seconds :P And just wondering, which version of the PVR-500 do you have? As in, which Tuner? Samsung or Phillips?
[12:02:07] haj: RaYmAn-Bx: hum .. how do i check?
[12:02:14] WHiTE^^BOX: change the group a recording belongs to.. i just changed that,,. lets see what happens to that recording
[12:02:31] RaYmAn-Bx: haj: dmesg output from ivtv should say
[12:02:37] haj: RaYmAn-Bx: it dosn't
[12:02:48] haj: oh.
[12:02:49] haj: it does
[12:02:59] haj: tveeprom: tuner = Philips FQ1216AME MK4 (idx = 91, type = 56)
[12:03:11] RaYmAn-Bx: okay, we have the same then
[12:03:13] haj: but i didn't spell philips right ;)
[12:03:30] RaYmAn-Bx: heh, I can never remember whether it has one or two l's
[12:04:07] haj: dmesg |grep -i phillips dosn't work... perhaps i should start piping through aspell ;)
[12:05:29] haj: hardware these days....
[12:05:32] haj: spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7.
[12:05:55] haj: irq7 is parport0.. i'm not aware of any software using parport0
[12:06:09] haj: :)
[12:07:41] haj: RaYmAn-Bx: do you transcode to mpeg4 ?
[12:08:20] haj: i just noticed that my transcodes are like, 1500meg/hour.. thats a bit large for mpeg4
[12:08:27] Juski: WHiTE^^BOX: it's not cvs anymore – hasn't been a long time. it's SVN
[12:08:29] RaYmAn-Bx: haj: no, not yet at least..

[12:09:05] Juski: 1.5GB/hour.. that's for good quality. you can reduce the bitrate as much as you like if you don't mind it looking like shit ;-)
[12:09:38] haj: RaYmAn-Bx: oh well :) i don't think i'll start optimizing until i have fixed my sucky cabling ;)
[12:09:45] RaYmAn-Bx: heh

[12:12:52] haj: Juski: thats pretty clever.

[12:13:11] Juski: no it's not. tv tuners for PCs have been around for ages
[12:13:28] haj: Juski: like, i can watch tv and play oblivion on the other monitor :)

[18:38:41] TheFloyd: i need to look into that when i get home
[18:38:46] j-rod: only staying for the week, then back to Seattle for another two, then back to Boston for good
[18:39:08] TheFloyd: j-rod – haha.. same in NYC too
[18:39:13] TheFloyd: the weekend was warm as hell
[18:39:27] TheFloyd: it looked like a blizzard outside here a couple of hours ago
[18:39:35] coffee88: TheFloyd: I get a CPU 0 and a 1... Check you have apic enabled in your kernel as well as the smp stuff....
[18:39:54] TheFloyd: yeah, I compiled an SMP kernel, and I'm *pretty* sure I enabled the APIC too
[18:40:27] j-rod: any east-coasters going to fudcon in boston on friday?
[18:40:34] rtsai: what's fudcon?
[18:40:39] coffee88: TheFloyd: at least you have a job for tonight. enjoy!
[18:40:46] j-rod: fedora users and developers conference
[18:40:57] TheFloyd: turning SMP on should imply APIC, right?
[18:40:59] j-rod: tacked on to the end of linuxworld expo
[18:41:07] ** coffee88 shrugs **
[18:41:16] j-rod: we've got a big-ass contingent that'll be there
[18:41:21] TheFloyd: I don't see a separate option for APIC unless I say no to SMP
[18:41:25] TheFloyd: so I'm pretty sure it's implied
[18:42:09] rtsai: for the "mythtv" slot?
[18:42:19] rtsai: fedora ... *shudder* ...
[18:42:20] rtsai: :)
[18:44:15] TheFloyd: hmm, it must be my motherboard

[18:45:02] coffee88: TheFloyd: I hate the feeling you get flashing a bios....
[18:45:07] TheFloyd: hahaha
[18:45:19] TheFloyd: what's odd is there's an option in the bios to enable HT support
[18:45:23] TheFloyd: it must be just a crappy mobo
[18:45:26] kormoc: APIC is enabled with SMP
[18:45:44] kormoc: TheFloyd, what version of the mps are you using?
[18:45:53] TheFloyd: i'll ride on over to microcenter tonight after work.. I'm sure they have a halfway decent P4/HT motherboard fairly cheap
[18:45:54] kormoc: I've found v1.4 is the best for hyperthreading
[18:46:08] TheFloyd: kormoc- I don't recall — I'll have to check the BIOS when I get home
[18:46:10] kormoc: and v1.0 doesn't work at all
[18:46:14] TheFloyd: good to know
[18:46:36] TheFloyd: it might just be a crappy motherboard

[20:03:24] RaYmAn-Bx: Puh: oh, well..you might want to check the table "cardinput" in the database as well..I had the same problem when upgrading drivers because it changed the tuner names..Set it up in mythtv-setup, but it left the old ones around and it tried to use those with scheduled recordings and the proper one with livetv..So it might be similar even if it's different :) Worth a try.

[20:37:26] Coder1: I originally intalled that, but i'm used to slackware so I put that on now
[20:37:45] RaYmAn-Bx: There was only one or two places in the driver for my remote that had to be changed to get it work with 2.6.16
[20:39:15] Coder1: well, if it wont compile with 2.5.14, I will bother to read the compiler messages and try to make it work
[20:39:57] RaYmAn-Bx: I can't imagine why it wouldn't.
[20:40:31] RaYmAn-Bx: the problem is that some kernel interfaces changed in 2.6.16..Which is why the development version of lirc works fine
[20:41:00] Coder1: I get stuff like this:
[20:41:12] Coder1: linux/fs.h:585: error: storage size of `f_owner' isn't known
[20:41:34] RaYmAn-Bx: okay, so that's a bit different than the ones I got.
[20:41:46] Coder1: lirc/drivers/kcompat.h:260:41: missing binary operator before token "("
[20:41:54] Coder1: this is from CVS now
[20:42:08] Coder1: just about 100 zillion errors

[20:47:01] Yellow-Snow: how do u change directorys to another hard drive?
[20:47:16] possie: is there away to make mythtv not trow away the old scaled theme images?
[20:47:26] roger55: Yellow-Snow, you first mount the partition somewhere
[20:48:12] roger55: Coder1, I have no lirc problems with 2.6.16 here, what version of lirc did you emerge?
[20:48:43] roger55: Coder1, I have lirc-0.8.0
[20:50:15] Yellow-Snow: roger55 i think its mounted.. (im still new to linux) i did mount.. and it shows 3 things..
[20:50:17] Coder1: i got it from CVS
[20:50:20] Coder1: i'm using
[20:50:39] Coder1: ./configure --with-driver=all --with-kerneldir=/usr/src/linux

[20:51:05] Coder1: do you need to specify the include dir? not the kernel src root?
[20:51:07] roger55: Yellow-Snow, then you just cd /where/it/is/mounted
[20:51:25] roger55: Coder1, did 0.8.0 not work for you?
[20:51:37] Coder1: no
[20:51:45] Coder1: so someone said get it from CVS
[20:51:56] Yellow-Snow: cd /dev/hda1 dosent work
[20:52:09] roger55: Yellow-Snow, that's the device not the mountpoint
[20:52:14] Yellow-Snow: oh
[20:52:21] Coder1: same trouble, it just won't compile. lots of things not defined. Possibly can't find a header or something.
[20:52:39] Yellow-Snow: how do i find the mountpoint?
[20:52:44] roger55: Coder1, don't use all drivers
[20:52:53] roger55: Coder1, specify the driver you need.
[20:52:55] Coder1: ok I don't know which I need
[20:53:03] roger55: Coder1, then find out!
[20:53:16] roger55: Yellow-Snow, what partition do you want to mount?
[20:53:20] Coder1: I have a twinhan/visionplus usb reciever
[20:53:33] Coder1: i have done some googling already

[20:54:04] Yellow-Snow: er.. i can go to /mnt/hdb3 and /mnt/hdb1 .. basically im new to linux.. want my 20 gig just for mythtv.. and my 300 gig to store all the videos
[20:54:20] Yellow-Snow: so im not sure if knoppmyth auto mounted it already
[20:54:29] Yellow-Snow: i think it already set it up.. not sure tho
[20:54:32] Coder1: on the lirc web site they have a config file for it , but it dosn't say the driver (i don't think)
[20:56:04] roger55: Yellow-Snow, is the new harddisk you want to use slave on first ide?
[20:56:20] Yellow-Snow: its slave on first ide
[20:56:25] Yellow-Snow: correct
[20:56:37] Yellow-Snow: cdrom on 2nd ide
[20:56:59] roger55: Yellow-Snow, and 'mount | grep hdb' shows the partitions and these mountpoints, right?
[20:58:16] Yellow-Snow: that dosent do anything
[20:58:20] Yellow-Snow: er i dont see anything
[20:58:43] roger55: then they are not mounted
[20:59:09] Yellow-Snow: you mean just that 1 hd?
[20:59:35] Yellow-Snow: mount | grep hd
[20:59:36] roger55: mount will show you a list of what is mounted where
[20:59:41] Yellow-Snow: that shows hda1 hda3 hda4
[21:00:13] roger55: fdisk -l
[21:00:21] roger55: will show you all partitions
[21:00:37] Yellow-Snow: hm
[21:00:40] Yellow-Snow: see my 10 gig
[21:00:43] Yellow-Snow: see my 300 gig
[21:00:44] roger55: decide which one you want to use, then add a line for it in /etc/fstab
[21:02:02] Yellow-Snow: each hd has like /dev/hda1 – 4
[21:02:05] Yellow-Snow: thats partitions?
[21:02:20] roger55: you want hdb

[21:02:50] roger55: that means it has 3 partitions
[21:02:56] Yellow-Snow: it has /dev/hdab1 -3
[21:03:13] roger55: good, is there noauto specified anywhere?
[21:03:33] Yellow-Snow: yes
[21:03:37] Yellow-Snow: there is noauto
[21:03:50] roger55: noauto means do not mount automatically at boot
[21:03:57] Yellow-Snow: ok so i need to remove that?
[21:04:06] roger55: so if you take it out it will be mounted at boot

[21:07:29] Yellow-Snow: er w/ the 1 hd it had 3 partitions.. 1 for mythtv. 1 for temp and 1 for the files
[21:07:39] roger55: Yellow-Snow, I wouldn't say it is any safer in terms of filesystem corruption though.
[21:07:42] Yellow-Snow: just.. im new to linux.. couldn't get it to boot up

[21:08:16] Yellow-Snow: so im thinking.. if something goes totally wrong.. ill just reformat the 20 gig
[21:08:19] roger55: if you have a problem like that you best visit the irc channel of your distribution
[21:08:22] Yellow-Snow: er 10
