[00:02:16] dtm: i'd guess so, if i had to gues

[00:11:03] mchou: ShockValue: bah, spend the money already
[00:11:07] ShockValue: if i stick a coat hanger on the end, shouldnt i be getting /something/ for signal, even if it's totally weak?

[00:12:32] ShockValue: ~6 miles as the crow flies, but there's an island with lots of trees in the way..
[00:12:32] mchou: maybe it's $300 now, I havent kept track
[00:13:03] mchou: naw, towers must be higher than the trees
[00:13:37] ShockValue: me (at sea level) -> water -> island -> water -> seattle ~sea level
[00:13:43] mchou: six miles you can probably make do with an indoor antenna like the silver sensor

[00:17:17] ShockValue: would one of those old uhf type antennas that people are throwing away off their houses work? my buddy said i could have his.
[00:17:26] mchou: ShockValue: if you can do it yourself CM4228 will definitely work
[00:17:46] Juski: my aerial sticks up about 2 feet from the chimney and the cable is less than 20metres long

[10:38:44] asperon: i am installing mythtv, and i need to get ivtv running, to do that i need a firmware for the driver, but there are a bunch on the site, and i wondered if anybody had a suggestion of which one to use for my hauppauge pvr250
[10:38:53] asperon: or perhaps that wasn't directed at me =)
[10:39:01] tetra: do you know wtf a firmware is??
[10:40:04] asperon: yes, but the firmware of the hauppauge cards aren't stored on the card, but rather in the windows driver, so to get it to work they extract the firmware, and you need one to get ivtv to load

[12:05:43] meushi: mark0: and maybe the blinking while it's trying to detect exactly which nvidia card and revision it has. Once that is done, it is fine and dandy for a mythfront

[12:09:33] d64: yes
[12:09:51] scopeuk: meushi my myth box takes about that may longer
[12:10:31] d64: i really wonder what causes it.. the box is fast, the disks are fast, it's only at about 10% cpu during playback
[12:10:41] FairWitness: Hrm. I'm thinking mine is related to playing SDTV at 1024x768 resolutions. The jitter seems to happen 1/4 of the time. Three seconds fine, one second jitter. Or the other way around.
[12:10:48] drdaz: ok... some progress... no matter where I set the bookmark in the programme... the value stored in 'recorded' is 127
[12:10:58] FairWitness: d64: What's your other problems? Maybe I could help with those..
[12:11:07] drdaz: so it's not ignoring the bookmark, its just setting the wrong one
[12:11:32] d64: fairwitness: well the one i've been whining about here lately is that if i try to view a non-transcoded recording in any other player except myth (which has jitter), i get weird and broken playback
[12:11:32] scopeuk: fairwitness is it running out of ram?
[12:11:37] scopeuk: or buffer possibly
[12:12:05] d64: fairwitness: then if i transcode mpeg2->mpeg2 (ie with the lossless option) the files are magically fixed and work in any capable player, but i lose dvb subtitles

[14:06:25] d64: and it's settings can be changed with the program xscreensaver-demo

[14:12:14] d64: can you btw elaborate a bit on your suggestion to use the user jobs? i don't know anything of those
[14:12:17] d64: to help my transcoding problem
[14:14:38] FairWitness: I can't browse the menus atm since the girl is using my box, but when you schedule a recording in >.18, you have the option to "run user job 1/2/3...". You can configure them in settings. Essentially, you can write your own scripts to do the transcoding, instead of the normal transcode.
[14:15:17] d64: ok
[14:15:23] FairWitness: Of course, you'll need to find a way to do the transcoding and keep the CC. I can't imagine it would be *too* difficult.
[14:15:35] d64: i just would have to find some tool that would fix the mpeg but still retain the cc
[14:15:44] FairWitness: If you really need both transcoding and keeping the subs, that's the only thing I can think of to help. :(
[14:15:48] FairWitness: Exactly.

[14:15:55] d64: i'm pretty sure the problem is very minor, some data in the stream that the players don't like
[14:16:18] d64: in some recordings this is not a problem because many chans just render the subtitles on the picture
[14:16:19] FairWitness: ffmpeg is pretty useful, and mplayer can do a lot of transcoding.
[14:16:28] d64: and of course finnish and english programs i can handle without them
[14:16:54] d64: but maybe one third of what i want to watch is neither of those
[14:17:14] FairWitness: d64: I would try "nuvexport" first. It's pretty flexible.

[21:10:07] Fredde87: tried that
[21:10:12] RaYmAn-Bx: Servo888: that seems like a lot..in total only 145mb is used on my box (i.e. the used bit of the buffers/cache line)
[21:10:13] kormoc: RaYmAn-Bx, you see, that's how much actual free ram you have. By default, the cache is file system cache. It caches files so it's a lot faster in theory.
[21:10:30] Fredde87: d64 what do I use before xterm? I tried exec but that didnt work
[21:10:44] d64: i think just "xterm &" should do
[21:11:00] RaYmAn-Bx: kormoc: yeah, makes sense :) I figured it was something like that since it didn't make sense that the apps I have running used up all of the gig
[21:11:01] d64: the thing is that every program you run in xinitrc has to have the & in end, except for the LAST program

[21:12:22] kormoc: RaYmAn-Bx, there sure is
[21:12:27] RaYmAn-Bx: kormoc: ..
[21:12:27] kormoc: RaYmAn-Bx, focus issues is the main one
[21:12:39] RaYmAn-Bx: ah, when starting other apps?
[21:12:53] kormoc: mythvideo/mythtvdvd can use external apps, aye
[21:13:02] RaYmAn-Bx: I guess that explains why mplayer stopped accepting keyboard input when run from mythfrontend
[21:13:08] d64: fvwm seems like a very lightweight wm that works better than twm
[21:13:20] kormoc: RaYmAn-Bx, that would be yup

[21:50:36] dtm: Servo888: v4l is an api, not a device driver
[21:50:47] dtm: Servo888: so what's the problem with usbvision

[22:33:08] Juski: RaYmAn-Bx: interactive stuff on DVB is mostly rubbish anyway – and support _is_ coming for MHEG to mythtv, so all UK DVB-T users will be able rejoice in playing shitty java games on their myth boxen

[22:35:11] Zork_: Well, actually yes.
[22:35:16] Zork_: That's the only thing.

[22:36:29] Beirdo: bjohnson_, likely not as it would still be treated as color
[22:36:38] Zork_: No error, just weird playing behavour. Like black screen, no sound, etc.
[22:36:49] Juski: install a DVD player program – that should solve WMP's inability to play mpeg2 properly
[22:37:03] drdaz: black screen + no sound = nothing at all?

[22:56:37] scopeuk: i mrearly bad at takign the asy option knoppmyth in this case
[22:56:40] Likwid: well im getting a new comp, so this one is gonna be my HTPC, but i have a p3 550 that imusing for myth right now so i can learn alot before i have to get everything down perfect :)
[22:56:57] Juski: good idea, Likwid
[22:57:36] makomk: Heh – you should try something like, say, using MythTV on a new (Linux drivers still being written) device
[22:57:51] scopeuk: wow you pare box your usign for myth is better than the spare box im usign for myth lol its better than some of the desktops my amily are using
[22:57:56] Likwid: scopeuk: you know how many times i got pissed and went from gentoo, to knoppmyth, to debian, to unbuntu and back to windows to get my HTPC running cause i know i can get everything working flawless in like 20 minutes in XP lol

[22:58:27] scopeuk: i know how to use xp liux is still kinda new to me
[22:58:41] Juski: scopeuk: why do you think I resorted to using Linux & mythtv?
[22:58:46] Likwid: scopeuk: i figured i would bite the bullet and learn as much as i could with that box
[22:59:10] Likwid: scopeuk: and went back to linux after that determined to get myth working :)
[22:59:12] Juski: I know XP inside out, but could I hell get my Freeview tuner to work without hanging, losing channel data or needing me to reboot
[22:59:22] scopeuk: i tried then realised that it is beyond my capeabilities to learn that fast
[22:59:34] Likwid: bah dinner while myth is compiling be back in a few fellas :)
[22:59:46] scopeuk: heh i know xp inside out but to hell if a 433 will run capture at real tiem on xp lol
[22:59:52] scopeuk: l8r
[22:59:52] Juski: XP is a PoS except when drivers & software are spot on (hardly ever, so it mostly stinks)
