[15:51:00] defi_: Even wireless keyboards?
[15:51:07] Juski: and their tech support is apparently so good that if a device isn't supported it can be
[15:51:21] Juski: defi_: how many IR wireless keyboards are there anyway?
[15:51:39] defi_: lots I thought?
[15:51:56] defi_: Dont tell me there rf?

[19:44:00] Gurft: perl /usr/local/bin/change_channel.pl
[19:44:11] Juski: orrin: depending on what you want, knoppmyth does the biz for some people
[19:44:43] Gurft: works great as the mythtv user from the terminal. do I need to specify /usr/bin for perl?
[19:45:29] Juski: Gurft: put a header in the script so you can run it just with /usr/local/bin/change_channel.pl – i.e. without needing to do the 'perl' bit – that might work

[19:48:16] orrin: I'll have a look at umbutu
[19:48:27] Gurft: ahhh, looks like it's working, just complaining with irsend. PVR-150 has been giving me issues with the irblaster. will work it from that end.
[19:48:46] Juski: going from blank HDD to working basic mythtv system in under 2 hours isn't bad going
[19:48:58] orrin: agreed.
[19:49:13] orrin: how is software raid with umbuntu?
[19:49:18] Juski: Coume: good to know the analogue scanning doozy works ;-)
[19:49:36] Juski: erm... I dunno
[19:49:42] orrin: (only thing I need to setup--went a bit OTT with the old disk space and bought 1000gig)
[19:50:13] Juski: ubuntu installs a big fat lvm by default – I've never used anything but the defaults before
[19:50:16] Gurft: Anyone dealt with the IR on PVR150 being really flaky? like, it works, then if you reboot it will not work again?
[19:50:30] Gurft: power down and back up and it'll be back in business?
[19:50:38] Juski: Gurft: try asking the ivtv guys or looking at the ivtv mailing list
[19:50:44] Gurft: Thanks
[19:51:02] Juski: some people have mentioned some bullshit about it needing a cold boot after it fails
[19:52:18] Juski: if that's what fixes it, there's no logical explanation for it. card registers shouldn't need their power removing for any period of time to clear them unless the hardware is really badly designed
[19:54:09] bio_: anyone has an idea what the reason could be for missing recordings in the media library on the frontend, that are shown in mythweb?
[19:54:20] Coume: Juski, just wish I add a nice signal here... I can't wait to move out and have a digital or cable...
[19:54:52] Juski: bio_: change the recording group view and you'll be able to see them
[19:55:11] orrin: I don't think I'll make the 2hour install time with Umbuntu, but I'm going to give it a crack. I can't stand watching tv on kaffeine.
[19:55:15] orrin: thanks for the help.

[19:58:54] lane: google returns exactly zero results for "libfreemheg"
[19:59:11] lane: and I don't see any mention of this problem on the mailing list, either
[19:59:21] Anduin: lane – Read the dev list (what you are seeing has been reported)
[19:59:27] Juski: lane: mheg is 'interactive' functionality of DVB broadcasts
[19:59:45] lane: Anduin: thanks for the tip – I'll check the dev list
[20:00:08] lane: juski: is that relevant for US ATSC broadcasts?
[20:00:12] Juski: yes folks, MHEG may be on its way to mythtv soon ;-)
[20:00:33] Juski: lane: I don't know. It could be related to DVB in general

[23:45:30] Juski: if you want to watch 2 things at the same time, you'll need >= 2 cable boxes
[23:45:43] Juski: if you wanna record 2 things at the same time, same story...
[23:45:46] rhuey: indeed! makes sense
[23:46:43] jams: yes
[23:46:50] Juski: so why'd you ask? ;-)
[23:48:10] rhuey: I'm competing with TiVo... according to my wife, TiVo can do this... I have no clue either way.
[23:48:42] Juski: TiVo can rob your wallet of hard-earned $$$ too... so is it still as cool?

[23:49:21] lesshaste: anyone ever heard of a problem where the reception is much worse when the digital tv is saved to disk than when it is played live?
[23:49:33] Juski: I really like how you have to buy hardware, then pay more money out to keep it working :-/
[23:49:33] rhuey: In the long run, No.... that's why I'm thinking of going HTPC

[23:49:57] Juski: lesshaste: nah. in mythtv everything is recorded. even livetv
[23:50:08] lesshaste: Juski: to disk?
[23:50:14] Juski: lesshaste: yup
[23:50:14] lesshaste: not a circular buffer in ram?
[23:50:17] lesshaste: oh ok
[23:51:05] Juski: what kind of digital tv we talking about here?
[23:51:19] lesshaste: freeview
[23:51:34] lesshaste: bad reception on qam64 channels
[23:51:39] lesshaste: which I can see fine on the tv
[23:52:15] Juski: yeh I was part way thru explaining that PC tuners are often less sensitive than set top boxes last time we spoke
[23:52:24] lesshaste: yes
[23:52:40] lesshaste: and that you can't ask anyone which pc tuners are better for reception either :)
[23:52:53] Juski: are you the guy who can get perfect reception without an aerial connected to the freeview box?
[23:53:05] lesshaste: yes
[23:53:06] jonty_ (jonty_!n=jonty@adsl-213-249-225-242.karoo.KCOM.COM) has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[23:53:27] Juski: that's a tricky one. I'd suggest the signal is too strong
[23:54:02] lesshaste: hm... on the tv it is below 50 percent
[23:54:07] lesshaste: so surely not
[23:54:07] Juski: hard to believe I know... but if you dont have an aerial plugged into the freeview box & it still picks up... you live close to the transmitter
[23:54:21] lesshaste: 6 miles from the transmitter
[23:54:26] lesshaste: is that close?
[23:54:40] Juski: getting _anything_ without an aerial connected is bloody good going – ESPECIALLY with a freeview box
[23:55:18] lesshaste: yes but if the tv says signal strength is <50 percent it can't be too strong can it?
[23:55:22] Juski: where my parents live they can see the mast from their garden... it's like 3 miles away
[23:55:37] Juski: they had lots of problems with freeview reception
[23:55:51] lesshaste: the point is that I am on the NE corner of a tower block with the transmitter due SW
[23:56:01] lesshaste: so that is why the reception is poor I assume
[23:56:01] Juski: that indoor aerial won't be doing you any favours
[23:56:16] lesshaste: it did nothing at all
[23:56:20] lesshaste: as you say :)
[23:56:21] Juski: especially living in a tower block with all the metal inside it
[23:56:42] Juski: is it a really cheap aerial?

[23:57:18] Juski: did I explain before how qam64 has much less error correction than qam16? like loads less?
[23:58:21] Juski: I think what's biting you is lots of small reflections of the signal all arriving at the aerial at different times. freeview is supposed to be better than analogue at defeating that, and it is up to a point...
[23:59:17] Juski: lesshaste: can you get a good, watchable analogue signal?
