[00:52:57] DartmanX2: question: will upgrading to lirc-0.8.0 help with recognizing the wacky PVR-150 remote?
[00:55:04] Ryushin: sphery: Yea, I'm running SVN.
[00:55:20] Ryushin: Trying to get the latest version to compile right now.
[00:55:46] sphery: So, have you tried mythtv-setup running locally (not via ssh/VNC) since the mythui change-over?
[00:56:21] sphery: On mine, mythfrontend is snappy and quick, but mythtv-setup took about 5 minutes to render a single 25-frame "fade-in" animation...
[00:56:21] FairWtns (FairWtns!i=FairWtns@c-68-45-13-212.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:56:34] FairWtns: Yup yup.
[00:56:37] sphery: Just wondering if that's true of everyone's mythtv-setup before I ask Isaac about it...
[00:56:45] sphery: Yup yup, slow?
[00:56:46] kormoc: sphery, mine does that on 0.19 and 0.19 fixes as well
[00:56:49] Ryushin: sphery: sorry, I have not run setup for a few weeks.
[00:57:07] sphery: kormoc: You're seeing it on 0.19 (not SVN)?
[00:57:23] kormoc: well, it takes a long time, aye, not sure if it's fade in related or not
[00:58:06] sphery: 0.19 doesn't do the fade, but someone had reported a slow mythtv-setup, so it may just be that the fade-in makes it far more noticeable...
[00:58:24] sphery: Guess I won't say anything until I can diagnose a bit.
[00:58:36] kormoc: it takes about 30 to 90 seconds for myth setup to launch on mine
[00:58:37] sphery: I'd hate to blame Isaac's new mythui code if that's not causing it.  :)
[00:59:04] Raven301 (Raven301!n=raven_30@Kitchener-HSE-ppp3575652.sympatico.ca) has quit ()
[00:59:36] sphery: That's about how long it takes to get the first frame of the animation in SVN, so it's probably a painting problem in mythtv-setup made worse because the new mythui stuff paints 25-frames of animation...
[00:59:50] sphery: Thanks for the info, though (everyone).
[01:00:06] sphery: Will make it easier to start looking for the cause.
[01:00:12] Raven301 (Raven301!n=raven_30@Kitchener-HSE-ppp3575652.sympatico.ca) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:00:14] kormoc: heh, your welcome
[01:00:25] Ryushin: Well, it looks like SVN revision 9300 is compiling okay.
[01:00:44] sphery: Ryushin: cool.
[01:00:50] sphery: I think I'm on 9302.
[01:00:55] sphery: Lovin' it.
[01:01:04] Ryushin: In fact, it just finished. 9320 does not compile cleanly.
[01:01:17] FairWtns: I just want good output on my semi-hdtv. And more water so's I don't get unsober so fast.
[01:01:19] sphery: I can say that 9302 works...  :)
[01:01:23] Ryushin: Now it times to play with XvMC and chromakey again.

[03:09:27] kormoc: Captain_Murdoch, couldn't he do both via the user jobs?
[03:09:50] Captain_Murdoch: yeah, but if a wrapper script does both it's just one job.

[03:10:03] kormoc: fair nuff
[03:12:25] achew22 (achew22!n=asdf@c-67-176-104-80.hsd1.co.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users

[03:14:11] marmoset: n/m, found it
[03:14:49] kormoc: Captain_Murdoch, btw, if I didn't mention it the other night, thank you very much for that job command line, it's working perfectly :)
[03:15:48] Captain_Murdoch: to queue a transcode and apply the cutlist, use the following SQL: insert into jobqueue (chanid, starttime, inserttime, type, status, statustime, hostname, args, comment, flags ) values ( your_chanid, your_starttime, now(), 1, 1, now(), "", "", "", 1);
[03:15:51] Captain_Murdoch: yw
[03:21:21] achew22: Captain_Murdoch if I run that what will it do?
[03:21:52] Captain_Murdoch: it will schedule a transcoding job to apply the cutlist to the recording for the chanid/starttime you gave.
[03:22:12] achew22: okay — is there a way to run a job that will do that after it finds the commercials
[03:22:16] marmoset: hmm, no luck even when importing channels.conf, hdtv can be a bear :)

[03:22:39] achew22: different thign
[03:22:45] marmoset: haha
[03:22:46] marmoset: close
[03:23:17] Captain_Murdoch: if you don't mind queueing 2 jobs, you can just queue your user job then a normal transcoding job and the transcoding job will apply the cutlist (user-initiated transcoding jobs apply the cutlist, automatic transcoding jobs do not).
[03:23:17] dargeer (dargeer!n=dar@c-67-172-237-203.hsd1.ut.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[03:24:00] achew22: okay — so if I define job one as "/usr/bin/mythcommflag -s %STARTTIME% -c % CHANID% --gencutlist" then it will run after it flags commercials but before it transcodes?
[03:24:04] Captain_Murdoch: or you can put your mythcommflag --gencutlist into a shell script and then echo that SQL code through mysql to queue the transcoding job after you call mythcommflag. so essentially your user job would be queueing up a transcoding job.
[03:24:33] achew22: I would rather not have it transcode all jobs so I think your solution is better
[03:24:47] achew22: how do you do that sql instert from batch
[03:24:53] Captain_Murdoch: no, unfortunately you can't control the order of jobs other than commercial flagging before or after transcoding. user jobs always come last if they are automatic jobs. If you queue jobs manually, they are processed in the order they were queued.
[03:25:31] Captain_Murdoch: do you now how to write a shell script?
[03:25:39] achew22: no
[03:25:57] achew22: just write it in nano or pico or vi then save as filename.sh then run as sudo sh scriptnameandlocation

[06:38:13] hello_man: guys.. I got mythtv compiled using
[06:38:15] hello_man: Debian.
[06:38:15] hello_man: Build-dependencies for MythTV can be satisfied by adding the following to your /etc/apt/sources.list
[06:38:15] hello_man: # Christian Marillat's packages (mplayer, lame)
[06:38:16] hello_man: deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sid main

[07:10:42] phar0e: me!
[07:10:47] malaTG: hehe ok
[07:10:55] phar0e: jag aelskar dig :D
[07:11:04] phar0e: please ask in swedish
[07:11:06] malaTG: first of all can I move my recordings and the database?
[07:11:10] malaTG: ok
[07:11:22] malaTG: kan jag flytta min inspelningar och databasen
[07:11:34] phar0e: yes
[07:11:43] malaTG: ok är det trickigt?
[07:11:57] phar0e: same version of mythtv?
[07:12:01] malaTG: yes
[07:12:08] phar0e: no tricks, very simple
[07:12:11] malaTG: 0.19 => 0.19
[07:12:14] malaTG: ok
[07:13:07] malaTG: ok and now the tricky question. One reason for changing system is to increase harddisk space can I have recordins on several disks without using LVM?
[07:13:43] phar0e: hmm
[07:14:08] adante: shiznix: what tv_grab are you using?
[07:14:08] phar0e: well you have to specify where to store recordings, I haven't heard of anyone wanting to specify multiple locations
[07:14:22] malaTG: no one location but sevreal disks
[07:14:40] malaTG: but I don't want to use LVM if I have to remove recordings
[07:14:52] malaTG: remove a disk I mean*
[07:14:53] Beirdo: why not?
[07:15:04] adante: malaTG: this is probably not much 'better' than lvm, but unionfs might be able to do it
[07:15:17] malaTG: what if one disk crashes
[07:15:18] shiznix: adante: an old version of tv_grab_au
[07:15:36] adante: shiznix: any chance you can send it my way?

[07:20:08] Beirdo: not at all
[07:21:06] malaTG: can I keep the recorings on the disks and move them into my new system even say if my disto is on one of them?
[07:21:27] Beirdo: umm
[07:21:40] Beirdo: don't put the system onto LVM, just data
[07:21:53] Beirdo: and yeah, there's a way to do that
[07:22:12] malaTG: ahh good idea
[07:22:46] Beirdo: there's an LVM HOWTO for Linux that's pretty good
[07:22:51] Beirdo: although I think it's LVM1
[07:22:57] malaTG: don't got very good knowledge about LVM just afraid that if one of my disks crashes all crashes
[07:23:06] Beirdo: that is a risk
[07:23:19] Beirdo: LVM on top of RAID is your best bet :)
[07:23:27] Beirdo: or just risk losing data
[07:23:33] malaTG: yeaa
[07:23:58] malaTG: hmmm want to build my final system right away I think just wish I had the money.... :S
[07:24:05] Beirdo: hehe

[07:26:23] malaTG: also thx to phar0e and adante :-)
[07:28:18] adante: i'm pretty sure a disk failing under unionfs won't drag any other disks down with it, but merit of the sheer primitiveness of it
[07:28:36] malaTG: ok
[07:28:45] Beirdo: but it would take down the filesystems on the disk
[07:28:57] Beirdo: that filesystem would be shit
[07:29:02] Beirdo: missing loads of data
[07:29:03] Beirdo: no?

[07:32:37] adante: this of course may not be acceptable depending on what your parameters are regarding redundancy
[07:33:08] Beirdo: if the filesystem spans more than one disk, the whole thing is pooched, no?

[07:41:26] phar0e: you mean lossless transcoding?
[07:42:10] malaTG: yopp just removal of the commercials fast
[07:42:44] malaTG: my system isn't so powerful..... takes forever to transcode
[07:43:15] phar0e: really haven't tested how long it takes, but from what I've read it doesn't encode unless it has to, around the cutlists
[07:43:39] splAt1 is now known as splat1
[07:44:15] malaTG: but I can't choose mpeg2 coding under my transcoding

[07:45:19] phar0e: do you see the lossless option? should be on the first screen
[07:45:34] malaTG: checking....

[07:52:35] phar0e: prison break returns this Monday in the US, so that means... in 8 months it'll be on in sweden?
[07:52:36] malaTG: haven't seen that yet..... know that it is a crime
[07:52:46] malaTG: someting like that
