[00:44:56] J-e-f-f-A: Hi guys — hopefully a quick question. Using Myth .19 now, and I went to add some new video files today, but I can't seem to find the 'Scan' option anymore to add them to myth... Am I losing it? I didn't see anything in the docs either...
[00:45:26] Octane: xpis: i have an rca cable going from settopbox to the pvr's input
[00:45:40] Juski: J-e-f-f-A: same place it always was.. utils/setup > video manager
[00:46:01] xpis: Octane: And is there an extra composite video output you are not using?
[00:46:13] myNOOBtv: Fair, will do
[00:46:15] FairWtns: Octane:Hasn't moved that I know. utils..vid manager..<<auto scans>>. Kind of silly though. Should auto-scan in the background by default if you ask me.

[00:49:44] Octane: xpis let me chec
[00:49:45] Octane: k
[00:50:11] Pitchin_uk: its just that i have some channels ive found that i dont have ids for – hopefully this file should old the answer?! :S
[00:50:33] Octane: xpis just to make sure, when we say composite, we mean the actual cable wire, right
[00:50:52] xpis: Octane: cable wire?
[00:51:00] Juski: J-e-f-f-A: it should scan automagically
[00:51:11] Pitchin_uk: old = hold btw
[00:51:35] xpis: Octane: By composite, I mean composite video. Usually, it will be a yellow RCA plug.
[00:51:43] Octane: ahhh, yes it does have composite out
[00:51:46] Octane: i use composite for audio
[00:51:49] Octane: but it has composite video too
[00:51:50] myNOOBtv: thought you were doing a cockney accent Pitchin :P
[00:51:58] xpis: Octane: there is no such thing as composite audio
[00:52:00] Juski: Pitchin_uk: ask me for xmltvids – I know most if not all the freeview ones
[00:52:03] J-e-f-f-A: Juski: Humm... Is that new in .19? I remember having to scan manually... (or was that just music???) Umm... Well, if that's the case, what's the interval, or can I force it to scan now – my new videos are not showing up...
[00:52:08] xpis: Octane: it's simply line audio over RCA jacks.
[00:52:23] Juski: J-e-f-f-A: should do it when you go into the video manager
[00:52:44] FairWtns: myNOOBtv: /msg me the output of "ls -alh /dev/video*"
[00:52:52] FairWtns: Or pastebin or whatever.
[00:53:02] myNOOBtv: will do
[00:53:11] xpis: Octane: (no biggie, just so that in the future you know the correct terminology so people can better understand what you are talking about when it comes to this sort of thing)
[00:53:19] Octane: xpis i appreciate that.
[00:53:20] J-e-f-f-A: Juski: Ok, thanks.
[00:53:43] Pitchin_uk: ok will do just doing another scan realised im missing sky sports news – my favourite channel!!!
[00:53:48] xpis: Octane: Use a RCA->3.5" miniplug adapter plug to plug the composite video into your sound card.
[00:53:55] xpis: (the line in input)
[00:54:37] xpis: An easy way to test whether it is on is to test for a small voltage on the composite video out.
[00:55:10] myNOOBtv: did you get that?
[00:55:26] Octane: xpis i dont see how this will solve the power issue?
[00:55:43] xpis: Octane: if you know when it is off, you know when to issue a power command.
[00:56:02] xpis: (via lirc)
[00:56:08] Octane: xpis, excuse the ignorance, but how will the computer know its off?
[00:56:24] xpis: Your sound card will detect a voltage when the box is on.
[00:56:41] xpis: In fact.. let me test this method myself with my box to make sure it works right.
[00:56:50] Octane: wow, thats an awesome workaround

[01:07:06] xpis: ok, just get 100 or so samples. You'll end up with 8-bit signed numbers.
[01:08:03] timekllr: anyone here that can give me some pointers on using firewire from a cablebox ?
[01:08:05] myNOOBtv: afk 5 mins
[01:08:12] timekllr: i know i'm close...

[01:08:48] FairWtns: myNOOBtv:Silly question: You are running the backend and frontend as mythtv and/or root correct?
[01:09:02] Octane: xpis i was kidding, im incapable of writing a shell script, let alone a c program
[01:09:13] xpis: Then, simply return 0 if the device is on, or something nonzero if the device is off.
[01:09:21] xpis: oh, ok then. I'll write it for you.
[01:09:48] Octane: you really dont have to
[01:09:53] Octane: i can use my workaround
[01:09:57] FairWtns: myNOOBtv:Everything else is looking set up correctly.
[01:10:01] xpis: Which is what?
[01:10:13] Octane: set the settopx box turn itself off and then cron it to turn it on
[01:10:44] xpis: And what if someone turns it on to watch TV?
[01:11:08] Octane: the idea being that itll always be on
[01:11:40] xpis: And what if the settob box's timing is wrong... and what happens if it happens to be in the middle of a recording?
[01:11:53] myNOOBtv: running both as mythtv
[01:12:10] myNOOBtv: and as root I gave mythtv permissions to my /video folder
[01:12:28] myNOOBtv: does mythtv user need permissions to /dev?
[01:13:03] FairWtns: myNOOBtv:not really, and your perms look correct. It looks like "alias char-major-81-* videodev" is missing from modprobe.conf
[01:13:32] Pitchin_uk: juski – what channel num is sky 3 supposed to be??
[01:13:47] myNOOBtv: checking...
[01:14:01] xpis: Octane: If your box turns itself off every 2 hours, it may be that it turns off in the middle of a recording...
[01:14:30] xpis: Octane: It would be best to check for power using your external channel change script. If it is off, then turn it on.
[01:14:33] FairWtns: myNOOBtv:To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what that means, but my setup has it, and it seems to be what resolved the problem for the guy in the url I mentioned earlier.
[01:14:52] myNOOBtv: kk
[01:15:04] Octane: xpis do you have a c program that does that ready?
[01:15:13] myNOOBtv: it's not the same as the one I have in the "#ivtv modules"?
[01:15:20] xpis: Octane: really, it would be no problem for me to write you a powercheck.c program that you would compile to use in your script.
[01:15:33] FairWtns: xpis:On the subject of power...You're not using DPMS by any chance are you?
[01:15:45] Juski: Pitchin_uk: I dunno – your scan shoulda got it right though
[01:15:56] xpis: FairWtns: no
[01:16:04] FairWtns: Dang.
[01:16:22] xpis: FairWtns: I explicitly disable it.
[01:16:27] Juski: Pitchin_uk: sky three is 11
[01:16:39] myNOOBtv: FairWtns would you be so kind as to put your modprobe.conf in the bin?
[01:16:46] FairWtns: xpis:Mine works great, but the remote doesn't cause a wakeup. Only the keyboard mouse. This is non-optimal.
[01:16:48] Pitchin_uk: also ive found the channels im missin xmltvids for – more 4+1, setanta sports, quiz call, 301,302,303, citv and bbci
[01:17:03] xpis: Octane: I need you to set your mixer settings using alsamixer and send me a sample of your output with the cable box both on and off, so I can determine the THRESHOLD value.
[01:17:42] Pitchin_uk: juski – thats interesting because it found sky travel as 11

[01:18:48] Juski: Pitchin_uk: sky3 IS sky travel ;-)
[01:19:01] Octane: xpis what should i set my alsamixer settings to?
[01:19:11] Pitchin_uk: ok fair enough – did you see my earlier psot about the missing xmltvids
[01:19:49] Juski: Pitchin_uk: yes did you see my reply? lol
[01:19:59] FairWtns: myNOOBtv:Ok, but mine is quite long for some reason. http://pastebin.com/584349
[01:20:09] xpis: Octane: you must mute line in in the playback profile, but make it the default recording device in the recording profile. You must also turn the volume up to maximum.
[01:20:21] myNOOBtv: thanks, Mate
[01:20:43] FairWtns: xpis:Hrm. Ok. Well if that is known, I at least know I must explore other options. Perhaps using xset to force a wakeup.
[01:20:48] Pitchin_uk: juski – this one – im missing xmltvids for – more 4+1, setanta sports, quiz call, 301,302,303, citv and bbci
[01:21:41] Juski: Pitchin_uk: I don't think setanta sports is free
[01:21:52] Pitchin_uk: ok i will delete it
[01:21:59] Juski: city has no xmltvid yet – not sure if more4 does or not
[01:22:03] FairWtns: myNOOBtv:Unfortunately, I would recommend a reboot after modifying modprobe.conf, as I am uncertain as to when modprobe.conf is actually read and cached.
[01:22:18] Juski: 301,302,303,bbci are interactive streams & won't have xmltv info

[01:23:28] Octane: you want my amixer state?
[01:23:52] xpis: Octane: no, I don't need it. Just so that the line in is muted, turned all the way up, and set as the default recording device.
[01:24:21] Octane: its muted and set at 94% ill change that to 100% but how do i ste it as default?
[01:25:08] xpis: When you've done that, type the following, without brackets: [cat /dev/dsp > sound.sample.raw] – Then, turn the cable box on and off a few times. Then, hit CTRL+C to stop the process.
[01:25:22] xpis: Octane: use the tab button in alsamixer

[02:05:05] FairWtns: Beirdo:Nice job, and you suck. I just finally got my 250GB external with mini-NAS.

[02:05:43] Beirdo: no
[02:05:54] Beirdo: 4 * 300G -> RAID5 = 900G
[02:06:07] Beirdo: it's (n-1) * capacity of each
[02:06:15] FairWtns: One for the parity I spose.

[02:07:03] Servo888: hehe yah.
[02:07:11] Beirdo: there are ways to recover maybe, but hell
[02:07:21] FairWtns: We do a lot of SATA stuff at my work, but I've been too low budget to try it at home. At a minimum, the cabling is a dream.
[02:07:24] Servo888: I wish mythtv has some sort of smarter way of keeping track of data. Like be able to setup different places to unload data
[02:07:29] Servo888: had*
[02:07:39] Servo888: You know it wouldn't be to hard to do... Programming wise.
[02:07:44] Beirdo: so I bought an Adaptec 2410AS for $350CDN (4-port)
[02:07:47] Servo888: the only headache is dealing with missing storage.
[02:08:06] Beirdo: and 4 * 300G Seagate SATA-II :)
[02:08:14] Beirdo: 7200.9 series
[02:08:32] Beirdo: so that machine currently has... 9 hard drives on it
[02:08:33] Beirdo: hehe
[02:08:45] Beirdo: 4 on a separate power supply
[02:08:52] FairWtns: My friggin BS in compsci isn't landing me a job, so I have to go for my A+ cert tomorrow. So throughput speeds and connections are whirling in my brain.
[02:08:52] Beirdo: and it's still almost silent
[02:08:58] FairWtns: s/tomorrow/monday.
[02:10:18] FairWtns: I'm still eyeing up an epia.
[02:10:33] FairWtns: I have my doubts on getting it to fully function for playback though.
[02:10:39] Beirdo: so after I'm done transferring... the 120G system drive comes out, one of the 200G will become a new system disk, installing ubuntu
[02:10:44] Beirdo: it's currently FC1
[02:10:44] ** FairWtns idly wonders what happened to the mynoob guy. **
[02:11:26] Beirdo: then I pop in the 120G as a secondary drive and dd an image over so I can set up all the apps and have the configs from before
[02:11:54] Beirdo: then pull it back out, and leave just the 200G
[02:12:00] Beirdo: will keep me busy for a bit
[02:12:09] Beirdo: well, and the RAID set
[02:12:11] Beirdo: heh
[02:12:30] FairWtns: The "engineers" at my work don't understand how you can transfer a linux image using dd. It baffles me. Ghost they get, dd is no go.
[02:12:34] Servo888: FairWtns, lol yah not a lot of work out there.

[02:13:09] xpis: dd transfers space that isn't in use though.
[02:13:16] Beirdo: don't care
[02:13:23] Beirdo: I want an exact image
[02:13:35] xpis: Using partimage, you only copy data in use.
[02:13:51] xpis: And it's open source.
[02:13:54] FairWtns: xpis:My company essentially takes an image and installs it on thousands of computers. If a customer requests linux however, it's all done by hand.
[02:13:57] Beirdo: so is dd.
[02:14:00] Beirdo: and I LIKE dd
[02:14:16] Juski: G4L isn't bad
[02:14:22] Juski: but it's no faster than DD
[02:14:30] xpis: Well the engineers would "get" partimage most likely, since it works like ghost.
[02:14:35] FairWtns: Haven't tried G4L yet.
[02:14:52] xpis: And partimage is fast.. and the output files don't waste space.
[02:15:01] Beirdo: meh
[02:15:11] xpis: (it will output either sparse files, or binary files similar to ghost files.)
[02:15:15] FairWtns: I hate when I have people I like, but are horrendously underqualified for what they do. Call me bitter, I don't mind.
[02:15:21] Beirdo: it might work for your uses, but I want a full filesystem
[02:15:31] Beirdo: that requires copying the whole thing
[02:16:08] FairWtns: I had an argument with our "programming specialist" as to whether the human readable descriptions of "lspci" come from the peripherals themselves or the O/S.

[02:18:01] FairWtns: dtm:My sentiments exactly. Is was moot to the discussion at hand, but when she demanded I was wrong I was like, 'whatever you want, I've got actual work to do'.
[02:18:15] dtm: lol
[02:18:49] xpis: Beirdo: partimage copies the whole filesystem. Minus areas of the disk that are not in use. The resulting sparse file can be mounted just like a dd image. It just doesn't take up as much room.
[02:19:06] Beirdo: then it's not the full filesystem
[02:19:30] Beirdo: it will work as a read-only filesystem
[02:19:43] Beirdo: but if you try writing...
[02:20:31] Beirdo: even if it doesn't WRITE all the bytes in the filesystem, it either has to reserve it (and hence uses as much room), or the filesystem will fuck up when you write new stuff
[02:21:15] Beirdo: anyways, you do what you want for imaging, that's not what I'm doing anyways :)
[02:21:57] Juski: had to image a couple of HDDs the other week from this unit: www.juski.co.uk/images/melted.jpg
[02:22:01] xpis: Actually, you CAN write to a sparse file. It will just get bigger.
[02:22:12] Juski: oops: http://www.juski.co.uk/melted.jpg
[02:22:24] xpis: You can mount a sparse image readwrite and add files to it.
[02:22:35] FairWtns: Beirdo:Not fighting you on it. Whatever works. You're the one who walked me through my dd'ing to upgrade to a large drive back when you were unengaged. :)

[02:24:56] Beirdo: a partition -> partition dd has no need for sparse files :)
[02:25:20] Beirdo: if I wanted to save space, I'd rsync the data off
[02:26:28] FairWtns: I'd love to remove my vids and redo my /video partition to anythin but reiser. No idea WTF I was thinking w/that.

[03:18:28] FairWtns: wireless ps2 keyboard:Easy to set up, no drivers needed. However, when I "learned" the keys on a universal remote, the remote is slow and sometimes "crashes", forcing me to take the batteries out to, errr, reboot it.
[03:18:29] bobbyz: I was just curious if there are any guides on doing this posted anywhere? I understand from the ebuild's message that this isn't necessarily supported, and I won't complain if it oesn't work, but I was hoping to find instructions on how to try it

[03:22:19] FairWtns: defi:They are functionally equivalent. One has more buttons than the other, but it all depends on which remote you buy either way.
[03:22:45] defi: FairWtns so basically only difference is setup?
[03:23:03] FairWtns: bobbyz: I thought I remember the old guide covering this. It's really a matter of allowing mysql to allow remote connections, and setting up the frontend to use the right backend IP.
[03:23:17] FairWtns: defi:Setup and maintenance yeah.
[03:24:13] FairWtns: The universal remote I have is "slower". Ie when I press "down" I scroll through one title per second vs 3–4 with the built-in. It's a cheap remote though, so perhaps if you have a different remote this could vary.

[07:32:47] Mersault: I'm looking to keep these copies around for a long time. The shows I'm most interested in are ones that aren't likely to see a dvd release anytime soon
[07:33:40] phar0e: well from my experience and understanding rtjpeg uses very little CPU to encode and is great for liveTV and recordings
[07:34:00] Mersault: so, it would be nice if the format would be playable on a number of different sources. to make an analogy to audio, I'd rather have an mp3 than an ogg file, even if the one is technically superior to the other, I can't play ogg all the places I can play an mp3
[07:34:04] phar0e: but most people would then use mpeg4 to archive their recordings, it saves space and can sometimes clean up the video use high quality encoding settings
[07:35:10] Mersault: I don't mind cpu time. it's not a fast machine, but it only sees any real use from about 5:00 to maybe 2:00 each day, leaving many hours for transcoding to happen
[07:35:13] geoff_ (geoff_!n=geoff@c-67-176-82-206.hsd1.co.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[07:35:14] phar0e: well if you transcode to an mpeg4 it'll still be in a nuppelvideo format, there are drivers for windows that would allow you to play them
[07:35:33] phar0e: but it's not really universal as if you'd use say nuvexport to take an rtjpeg recording and export it to xvid or divx
[07:37:07] Mersault: now, perhaps I'm ignorant, but isn't mpeg4 a spec of sorts, and lots of different codecs can support the spec (and be uncompressed and played by common players), but have different implementations and thus some should be better than others?
[07:39:42] phar0e: well I'm not an expert either, but yeah there are standards, mpeg2, mpeg4, etc and then different codecs used
[07:40:17] phar0e: I could be wrong but when you transcode with mythtv to mpeg4 it uses the divx codec
[07:40:31] phar0e: or atleast that's the type of mpeg4 file my players show them as
[07:41:14] Mersault: alright, terrific. I was planning to use either xvid or divx to encode my files.
[07:42:29] Mersault: so, does anyone use this setup (or similar), and what settings have you found to be sane and decent?
[07:42:45] Mersault: also, when it transcodes it, will it also remove the commercials automatically?
[07:54:26] phar0e: it won't remove the commercials automatically
[07:55:03] phar0e: it should flag the commercials, but you have to edit it and load the cutlists
[07:55:19] phar0e: I find you usually have to adjust them a bit depending on what channel/program it is you recorded
[07:55:52] phar0e: you should always check to make sure you don't cut out any part of the program, the mythcommflag program isn't perfect, depends on a lot of variables
[07:58:08] Mersault: what are some sane auto-transcoding settings for mpeg4?
[07:58:41] phar0e: the developers set up the defaults to be pretty decent
[07:59:06] phar0e: I'd recommend testing with the default and then seeing if it's good for you or not
[08:00:02] Mersault: hmm... I don't think this transcoding feature is quite what I'm looking for exactly. I think what I want is some niftyness with nuvexport and cron
[08:02:29] Calroth: i have my own transcode script that crunches shows down for use on my palm
[08:02:36] Calroth: uses mencoder, and runs as a user job
[08:03:00] Mersault: have people been doing neat things with scripting nuvexport? and if so, is there a site that people have collected these at? it seems like you could do a lot with it
[08:03:04] benc- (benc-!n=benc@markcaswell.dsl.visi.com) has quit (Client Quit)
[08:04:47] Calroth: i've never used nuvexport myself, but mplayer/mencoder has always been able to decode my .nuv files
[08:05:08] Calroth: although they are mpeg-2 streams from DVB, not your PVR-150 streams
[08:06:24] Mersault: I'm recording a couple of shows that are syndicated and airing in order every night, but they aren't likely to come out on dvd, so I want to collect them into a catalogue by season. [10:48:07] Juski: gabrielg: interesting. maybe it's got more to do with mencoder doing a quick & dirty encode (if indeed that's what it's doing)

[10:53:34] Juski: gabrielg: if you play back the files in a _strict_ mpeg2 player are they okay? you have to remember the hardware decoder of the MVP probably expects a pristine stream
[10:53:46] gabrielg: i guess i'll be getting myself a Dreambox or something like it in the future

[13:06:52] Juski: woohoo for you, Beirdo :-)
[13:06:56] Beirdo: the next step is to start taking out disks, and to install ubuntu on one of the 200G as the system disk
[13:07:19] Beirdo: unless I have a spare 80G
[13:07:24] Beirdo: that would be smarter
[13:10:59] ** scopeuk has a thing about not being able to aford raid and looks down troden **
[13:11:15] Beirdo: yeah, it wasn't cheap
[13:11:37] Beirdo: but I really didn't want to lose my data, and LVM has issues if a disk dies
[13:11:45] scopeuk: yeh
[13:11:57] scopeuk: oh trust me if i could aford it id do it in an instant
[13:12:16] Beirdo: well, it would take a lot more than an instant to set up, believe me :)
[13:12:26] scopeuk: whats anooying me atm is that the hub is louder than my desktop and myth boxes put together

[13:13:45] Hoxzer: I removed MythPhone, mythflix and mythnews in the mythplugins and now I can't see "video settings" >_<
[13:14:10] Beirdo: Jasper, huh?
[13:14:33] Beirdo: almost all filesystems support UNIX-style file permissions
[13:14:51] Beirdo: there might be some lame ones like msdos that don't
[13:14:56] Jasper: hmm, but I'm not talking allowed to access.....I'm talking allowed to see stuff
[13:15:06] scopeuk: think even basic fat hat dos runs on suport permisions
[13:15:15] Beirdo: there is no difference
[13:16:10] Beirdo: if you want your wife to not be able to see your porn, don't give her an account, or make the directory not accessible by anyone but you
[13:16:23] Jasper: 8) if that was the point yes..
[13:16:27] Jasper: but
[13:16:36] phar0e: as long as it's not gay porn I don't see the problem?
[13:16:37] Jasper: unix uses a standard file right for user permission?
[13:16:50] Beirdo: hmmm?
[13:17:02] Beirdo: what do you mean by a standard file?
[13:17:10] Jasper: a file which is normally accessable?
[13:17:29] Beirdo: I don't understand what you are asking
[13:17:33] Jasper: like passwd, group
[13:18:05] Jasper: ok, let me try and explain what I mean differently
[13:19:06] Jasper: fat32 for example has reserved space for the root directory and the fat table.. there's not a thing like the user table
[13:19:25] Beirdo: fat32 is crap
[13:19:34] Jasper: well yeah...but that's not the point
[13:19:34] Jasper: :P
[13:19:35] Beirdo: it has no idea of user ownership
[13:20:07] Jasper: so when I format a disk ext3 and don't install anything on it...will the fs allready have a basic layout structure for users in it?
[13:20:33] Beirdo: if you want to know technical details, you will need to read kernel source
[13:20:59] Beirdo: basically, when it writes a file, it has a UID and GID and a ownership mode associated with it
[13:21:16] Beirdo: where exactly that all gets stored, dunno, but it's in the filesystem
[13:22:05] Beirdo: and yes, the UID and GID are resolved to names using /etc/passwd and /etc/group
[13:22:27] Beirdo: through the use of /etc/nsswitch.conf
[13:22:35] Beirdo: which can redirect it to use NIS, etc
[13:23:49] Jasper: hmm k
[13:23:51] Beirdo: anyways, I'm gonna go move some disks, be back in a few

[21:58:59] bio_: bt848 generally has crappy picture, the other one is quite ok with tvtime but results in mythtv are not that satisfactory
[21:59:11] kormoc: nuxil, hrm
[21:59:30] bio_: so wondering if its generally a problem of the mpeg-encoding and if it would improbe with a better card
[22:00:12] kormoc: likely improve, aye
[22:00:42] bio_: hmmmmm, well, i maybe should buy one and try
[22:01:04] nuxil: kormoc hmm and in inputconection menu both are set to use the same video source
[22:01:04] bobbyz: bio_: if you've got a fast enough cpu, you can probably get decent results with your existing card, but I don't know if it's really possible to hit the quality of a hardware-based card without really using a lot of cpu and a high bitrate, but I'm no expert
[22:01:11] bio_: having three tv-cards then
[22:02:06] bobbyz: bio_: yeah, I hear ya...I now have 2 cards when you count the bttv card, but if you are planning on using mythtv a lot, it's worth getting th hardware card
[22:02:16] bio_: well, my testbox where im doing the setup right now is xp 2400 but the harddrive will then be put in an xp 1000. probably not slow enough having 95% cpu-usageby now
[22:02:59] bio_: yeah i think so. the encoding settings i have right now probably wont work on the pc im planning to use
[22:03:09] bobbyz: and the hardware-based cards not only give great quality, but they reduce the cpu load to practically nothing...I mean I'm now able to play starcraft with cedega while mythbackend records shows for me

[22:11:45] xris: bobbyz: you're setting the IP of the master backend there... other frontends will connect to the db to look up that IP, so if it's set to "localhost" then the frontends will each think that they themselves are the master backend.

[23:32:04] kormoc: Sudanmas, let's check your IO
[23:32:22] kormoc: Sudanmas, hdparm -t /dev/hda (if your hard drive you store the recordings on is hda)
[23:32:32] Sudanmas: Sure – please hold.
[23:33:09] Sudanmas: I'll set another job to record
[23:33:28] kormoc: Sudanmas, actually, do that without recording
[23:33:41] kormoc: Sudanmas, it just gives the max speed your harddrive can output
[23:33:56] Sudanmas: Ok – recording cancelled.

[23:34:23] knoppix: I have a Question; how does one go about activating KDE in Knoppmyth?
[23:34:40] kormoc: basically, we're just gonna make sure your harddrive can keep up. if it outputs at say, 10 megs per second or more, then you should be good, and 10 is a slow speed for drives
[23:34:53] Sudanmas: Sure – checking now

[23:37:44] kal: when i'm watching tv and i find an interesting show to record, what i have to do ? Just pressing the R key to record or i make nothing and use the "live tv" mpeg file ?
[23:38:28] Sudanmas: kormoc – the hdparm man pages are there, but the hdparm executable doesn't appear to be on any of my search paths – where does the app live?
[23:38:43] kormoc: Sudanmas, you have to be root, and it'd be in /usr/sbin or /sbin
[23:38:49] kal: because if use the live tv mpeg file, change to another channel and then comin back to the original channel, the live-tv mpeg file will be recovered ?
[23:38:52] Sudanmas: I'm rooted
[23:39:25] kormoc: kal, you'll lose the part you were not watching for, yeah, but that's just how it is
[23:40:11] kal: no, what i mean is that :
[23:40:55] kal: Suppose that im watching channel A, that i would keep the record live tv file. The show is finished, i zap to Channel B. Finally, i come back to channel A
[23:41:38] kal: the final live tv mpeg file of channel A will bo recovered by the las time i zapped on channel A
[23:41:39] kal: no ?
[23:41:57] kal: (excuse my poor english ...)
[23:42:25] Sudanmas: kormoc – hdparm seems to be mia – I'll try a ls -R

[23:45:17] kal: that's all that i would
[23:45:36] Sudanmas: monolith – there's a good run through on the myth wiki about mythweb
[23:45:41] kal: and i would like to know to why mythtv is always generating a 5MB mpeg file when we zap channel :/
[23:45:55] monolith: Sudanmas, thanks – apprecaite the guidances
[23:45:58] kal: this mpeg file containt a black frame and perturb the recorder viewer

[23:59:08] Chris97b: hello, all. Having a bit of trouble getting LIRC to control my cable box. I'm using a PVR150 to control a DCT2000 box. Installed lirc according to Mark's guide, and his send_power script was able to turn off the box
[23:59:38] Chris97b: I copied over the lircd.conf from sourceforge for the DCT2000, but when I try to send a signal, I get the following in dmesg:
[23:59:42] Chris97b: lirc_pvr150: failed to get data for code 0, key 9200 — check lircd.conf entries
