[00:00:00] GreyFoxx: handy
[00:00:00] Beirdo: doxygen is a helpful tool too
[00:00:00] GreyFoxx: stuarta: the bigger the codebase, the handier it is
[00:00:00] jonase: my webcam wont work in mythtv; when i type "y" it changes to a black screen in 5 secs and back to tv.
[00:00:00] stuarta: does that do funky cross references between files etc...
[00:00:00] jonase: its working with; mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l:width=352:height=288:outfmt=rgb24:device=/dev/video1:noaudio -flip
[00:00:00] GreyFoxx: stuarta: Yup
[00:01:00] GreyFoxx: and you can jump through them quickly
[00:01:00] stuarta: ahh, that's what I use anjuta for...
[00:01:00] GreyFoxx: place cursor over a routine/variable Hit CTRL-] to jump to where it's defined, etc etc

[00:01:00] stuarta: nice.
[00:02:00] Beirdo: jonase, don't think webcams were ever the designed use of mythtv
[00:02:00] Arkkis: stuarta, I fail to see what you mean by horribly organized interface, could you explain?
[00:02:00] simon_c_home (n=simon-ir@geordie.demon.co.uk) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:02:00] stuarta: It's easy to do something when you know where to find what you want.
[00:02:00] stuarta: Guess it's just a steep learning curve.
[00:02:00] simon_c_home: Hi all. I'm having a problem ripping a DVD with mythdvd. When I selct "view" in mythdvd, I don't get the main audio track, only the background audio. Any cluse what's up ?
[00:03:00] simon_c_home: I'm using myth 0.18.1
[00:03:00] Arkkis: stuarta, it's a big program with loads of features, I've used it for some time now and I think I've scratched only the surface of it's features
[00:04:00] Beirdo: simon_c_home, sorry, I've never used mythdvd
[00:05:00] Arkkis: anyways, gotta go sleep now, good night.. :)
[00:06:00] jonase: Beirdo: thats means > "it's not working unless you hack the sourcecode"?
[00:07:00] Beirdo: it's possible. I don't know that anyone's ever tried it

[00:08:00] Beirdo: cool
[00:09:00] Yellow-Snow: anyone want to help me with one of the many things i want to get done? Set up vnc/ Set up remote/ Fix live tv buffer
[00:09:00] jonase: yeah, but its not working *go and cry*

[00:17:00] xpis: Yellow-Snow: Well, lirc setup is covered well in the mythtv docs. Knoppix should already have vnc installed, so that shouldn't be an issue.
[00:18:00] Yellow-Snow: aight ill look up lirc
[00:18:00] Yellow-Snow: as for vnc.. i did this
[00:18:00] tiger (n=tiger@port687.ds1-oebr.adsl.cybercity.dk) Quit ("using sirc version 2.211+KSIRC/1.3.12")

[00:19:00] Yellow-Snow: aight trying
[00:20:00] xpis: replace 640x480 with 800x600 if you want a bigger display.
[00:20:00] Yellow-Snow: command not found
[00:20:00] xpis: ok, you'll need to install vnc.
[00:20:00] Yellow-Snow: hm i did that the last time
[00:20:00] Yellow-Snow: doit it again
[00:20:00] xpis: that doc says to install x11vnc
[00:20:00] Yellow-Snow: yea
[00:20:00] Yellow-Snow: ?
[00:21:00] xpis: That's probably not what you want.
[00:21:00] Yellow-Snow: oh
[00:21:00] Yellow-Snow: what do i want?
[00:21:00] xpis: Did you want to control a real, physical X display, or a virtual one?
[00:21:00] Yellow-Snow: i want to log on my windows comp to ctrl the box
[00:21:00] Yellow-Snow: b/c if i have it set to tv i cant read shit
[00:22:00] Yellow-Snow: so i guess real
[00:22:00] xpis: ok, just install the latest version from realvnc.com
[00:22:00] xpis: You can probably find a debian package to make it easy.
[00:22:00] xpis: (apt-get something)
[00:22:00] Yellow-Snow: ah yea i like apt-get commands
[00:22:00] Yellow-Snow: also why does most of the time it says apt-get update
[00:23:00] Yellow-Snow: to do that first
[00:23:00] xpis: Thaht makes sure you are running the latest version of things.
[00:23:00] Yellow-Snow: ah
[00:23:00] xpis: Try apt-get vncserver
[00:24:00] xpis: that might work.
[00:24:00] Beirdo: um
[00:24:00] Beirdo: apt-get install vncserver
[00:24:00] Beirdo: might work better
[00:25:00] Yellow-Snow: wow yea
[00:25:00] Yellow-Snow: how do u find these commands so easy?
[00:25:00] Yellow-Snow: i did a google search for apt-get real vnc
[00:25:00] Beirdo: man apt-get
[00:25:00] Beirdo: and for the package name, it was a guess :)
[00:25:00] Yellow-Snow: oh
[00:25:00] Yellow-Snow: hehe yea
[00:25:00] Yellow-Snow: experince > man

[00:26:00] Yellow-Snow: it works
[00:26:00] Yellow-Snow: hm q tho
[00:26:00] Yellow-Snow: i installed x11vnc
[00:27:00] Yellow-Snow: set the password in that file to aaaa
[00:27:00] xpis: FYI, I found the package name by searching linspire's Create New Revenue database, which tends to use the same names as debian packages.
[00:27:00] Yellow-Snow: installed vnc server and the password to log on is aaaa
[00:27:00] Beirdo: apt-cache search vnc
[00:27:00] Yellow-Snow: i thought it was 2 diff programs
[00:27:00] Beirdo: that would help
[00:28:00] Yellow-Snow: oh wow thats cool
[00:29:00] Yellow-Snow: let me try apt-cache search firefox
[00:30:00] Yellow-Snow: hm do i get firefox-gnome-support or just firefox
[00:30:00] Beirdo: dunno ;)
[00:33:00] Yellow-Snow: once i installed a program does it get added to the list on xsession?
[00:33:00] Beirdo: I think so, but you may need to login again to see it
[00:33:00] Yellow-Snow: ah
[00:33:00] Yellow-Snow: k
[00:33:00] Beirdo: I barely use X :)
[00:33:00] Yellow-Snow: haah u all console?

[00:34:00] Yellow-Snow: i like it.. when i know what to do!
[00:34:00] Beirdo: other than my myth box of course
[00:34:00] Beirdo: and my laptop which runs X, primarily to ssh to the other boxes
[00:34:00] Yellow-Snow: lirc is for remotes eh?
[00:34:00] Beirdo: yup
[00:35:00] Yellow-Snow: see is gentoo already installed
[00:35:00] Yellow-Snow: b/c of knoppmyth
[00:35:00] Beirdo: ?
[00:35:00] Beirdo: um, no
[00:35:00] Yellow-Snow: oh n/m
[00:35:00] xpis: Yellow-Snow: will you be requiring an ir blaster?
[00:35:00] Yellow-Snow: how can i test if lirc is already installed
[00:36:00] Beirdo: gentoo and knoppmyth aren't at all related, totally different distros
[00:36:00] Beirdo: ahh, lirc
[00:36:00] Yellow-Snow: yea i see
[00:36:00] Yellow-Snow: yea i read it wrong
[00:36:00] Beirdo: dunno, I don't use a remote :)
[00:36:00] Beirdo: hehe
[00:36:00] xpis: Yellow-Snow: knoppmyth should come with lirc.
[00:36:00] Yellow-Snow: yea thats what i thought
[00:36:00] Yellow-Snow: it asked me what i had
[00:36:00] Yellow-Snow: i selected pvr-150
[00:36:00] xpis: (I use a wireless keyboard I got for $10 instead of a remote)
[00:36:00] Yellow-Snow: but it said.. i still need to config some things first
[00:36:00] Beirdo: I use an IR keyboard :)
[00:37:00] Yellow-Snow: im not sure what more i need to config
[00:37:00] Yellow-Snow: hm
[00:37:00] xpis: Beirdo: Where do you buy those? The only place I've seen them is at hotels with "lodgenet" for $10/hour.
[00:38:00] GreyFoxx: IR keyboards ?
[00:38:00] Beirdo: I got em at a local store
[00:38:00] Beirdo: $20CDN
[00:38:00] GreyFoxx: ummm 90% chance that your "wireless" keyboard is an IR keyboard
[00:38:00] Beirdo: many of them are RF, GreyFoxx
[00:39:00] Beirdo: all the MS and Logitech ones, anyways
[00:39:00] GreyFoxx: now maybe, but that's only in the last year or so
[00:39:00] Beirdo: heh
[00:39:00] splat1 is now known as splAt1
[00:39:00] xpis: Mine is a recently purchased logitech. It even came with a wireless mouse I don't use.
[00:39:00] Beirdo: I bought my first RF one almost 5 years ago, but yeah, they are a LOT more common now
[00:40:00] GreyFoxx: I use an RF remote on my main frontend with a gyration keyboard tucked away out of sight
[00:40:00] Yellow-Snow: arg back to lirc!
[00:40:00] Beirdo: I find the IR keyboard has better range than the RF ones
[00:40:00] Beirdo: which is why I use it
[00:40:00] Beirdo: :)
[00:41:00] xpis: Beirdo: I used two PS/2 extension cables to position my RF receiver as to get reception throughout the room.
[00:41:00] Beirdo: and less finnicky about polarization of antennas, etc
[00:41:00] xpis: (and out of sight too)
[00:41:00] GreyFoxx: I can use my RF remote (and keyboard) from any room in my house. I
[00:41:00] Beirdo: my IR reciever puck is on top of the TV :)
[00:41:00] GreyFoxx: 've been suprised by its distance
[00:41:00] Beirdo: GreyFoxx, yeah, some are quite good.
[00:42:00] xpis: But you have the keyboard at the TV for quality pickup.
[00:42:00] Beirdo: ummm
[00:42:00] Beirdo: the keyboard is half-way across the room from the receiver
[00:42:00] GreyFoxx: xpis: I have it near the TV for conveinient access :)
[00:42:00] Beirdo: a good 12 ft
[00:42:00] cesman: http://linuxdevices.com/
[00:42:00] cesman: doh!
[00:42:00] Beirdo: oh, you mean GreyFoxx's?
[00:42:00] cesman: wrong channel
[00:42:00] Beirdo: never mind :)
[00:42:00] Beirdo: heh
[00:43:00] Yellow-Snow: arg

[00:44:00] Beirdo: why can't they ever get it right the first time?
[00:44:00] Yellow-Snow: Note that the patch does not enable the IR blaster of the PVR-150. I
[00:44:00] Yellow-Snow: don't know how to make that work.

[00:46:00] woodwizzle: I just installed from knoppmyth and oggs won't play
[00:46:00] Beirdo: I think you need to create a patch for mythmusic that will play oggs
[00:46:00] Beirdo: last I heard they weren't supported

[00:50:00] Beirdo: umm linux-2.6.xx.tar.bz2
[00:50:00] Beirdo: from kernel.org
[00:50:00] Beirdo: I would assume
[00:51:00] scottder: Why wouldn't oggs be supported, it can rip ogg vorbis
[00:51:00] scottder: or FLAC if you have the HD space :)
[00:51:00] Beirdo: I dunno
[00:51:00] Beirdo: maybe I'm wrong
[00:51:00] Beirdo: go read the code :)
[00:51:00] Yellow-Snow: it said no such file or directory
[00:51:00] Yellow-Snow: =\

[04:02:00] Kelerion: X allows you to use a mouse and have some kind of windowing system.. the WM is actually what you *see*
[04:02:00] xpis: the FC4 versions of both are buggy. You must upgrade.\
[04:02:00] rav3r: i updated everything according to jarod;s guide
[04:03:00] ole_schoola: you at kernel 2.6.14–1.1656?
[04:03:00] xpis: Are you using yum?
[04:03:00] rav3r: yes
[04:03:00] rav3r: to yum
[04:03:00] xpis: Have you done yum update xorg-x11
[04:03:00] ole_schoola: # uname -r
[04:04:00] rav3r: 2.6.14–1.1656_FC4
[04:04:00] xpis: rav3r: Also, do yum update qt
[04:05:00] rav3r: im doing the yum now
[04:05:00] xpis: (you've probably already updated qt, though, but you'll need up upgrade xorg.
[04:05:00] rav3r: xorg is updating now
[04:06:00] xpis: ok, good.
[04:06:00] rav3r: let me just say, i love this putty thing
[04:06:00] xpis: putty thing?
[04:06:00] ole_schoola: windows ssh client
[04:06:00] rav3r: windows program that lets me ssh to the linux
[04:06:00] ole_schoola: awesome if yer stuck on windows box
[04:07:00] xpis: yep, I use putty all the time. That and vnc. Easy way to escape windoze.
[04:07:00] ole_schoola: winscp is an just that, built over putty
[04:07:00] rav3r: i found it here, when i asked about myth not responding to keyboard or mouse, had to ssh and kill it
[04:07:00] ole_schoola: heh, working on my dad's gamer across town right now ;)
[04:08:00] rav3r: cool, xorg done
[04:08:00] xpis: rav3r: if you like putty... install a vnc client on your windows box.
[04:08:00] ole_schoola: 67 yo and tears it up with Quake, FarCry
[04:08:00] rav3r: update qt?
[04:08:00] xpis: yep
[04:09:00] rav3r: No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion
[04:10:00] xpis: then it's already updated
[04:10:00] rav3r: cool, im rebooting
[04:10:00] xpis: no need for that
[04:10:00] xpis: just restart X
[04:10:00] ole_schoola: rav3r: which kernel are at?
[04:11:00] rav3r: version?
[04:11:00] xpis: He already said – 2.6.14
[04:11:00] rav3r: 2.6.14–1.1656_FC4
[04:13:00] rav3r: awesome, seems to be working
[04:13:00] xpis: For anyone who needs 200 more gigs... Circuit City has a western digital PATA drive for $100 – $70 rebates. (Yellow-Snow was looking for one)
[04:13:00] ole_schoola: yum hasn't exactly bee resolving perfect for FC lately
[04:13:00] xpis: (if he's alive)
[04:14:00] rav3r: i have another question but it's a bit o.t.
[04:14:00] xpis: atrpms has nasty dependency problems.

[04:15:00] rav3r: im trying to use wine, and when i run winecfg, the screen goes blank and i have to hard power it down, do you think it could be a problem with my nvidia card?
[04:15:00] xpis: It's easier to compile everything than attempt to use atrpms in my opinion.
[04:15:00] ole_schoola: try it now, you just made a major change to X which wine "draws" to
[04:15:00] xpis: rav3r: are you using the proprietery nvidia driver?
[04:16:00] xpis: The old version of X has a MAJOR I/O bug. So that could have caused it, I guess.

[04:18:00] rav3r: i havn't yet
[04:18:00] rav3r: i will
[04:18:00] xpis: Well, if you used the driver from nvidia.com, you'll have to get support from #nvidia
[04:19:00] rav3r: hey, seems to work now!
[04:19:00] xpis: Well, that problem is solved.
[04:19:00] ole_schoola: if it has pretty colors, it's probably getting piped through X

[05:38:00] mchou: dtm: all the codecs that mplayer has come from "elsewhere"

[05:46:00] mchou: defaultro: sel the cpu and mobo. You'd be much better off

[05:47:00] defaultro: so 939 is very quiet?

[06:07:00] Yellow-Snow: i get to # 12 and cant do anything
[06:07:00] mchou: proc on axp is 2400+ native, oc to 2600+
[06:07:00] StickMan: yeah, im pretty handy with linux and it was a pain in my butt to get my remote going
[06:07:00] mchou: 939 is 3200+, not oc
[06:07:00] StickMan: ok, mines a 2800+ oc to 3000+
[06:08:00] Yellow-Snow: so what do i do?
[06:08:00] StickMan: so your axp is medium-high end for the core it is on, and your a64 is way way low end for the core it's on
[06:08:00] StickMan: so of course your a64 is going to run cool, if you had the 4700+ it would be hot
[06:08:00] StickMan: because your cpu isnt pushing the limits of the core architechture its built on
[06:08:00] mchou: lol, you're just neing silly
[06:08:00] StickMan: seriously
[06:09:00] mchou: StickMan: look up this acronym: SOI
[06:09:00] StickMan: a 2400 is probably a palomino or a thoroughbred
[06:09:00] mchou: you're so full of shit
[06:09:00] StickMan: a tbred 2400 is like the highest they went on that core
[06:09:00] StickMan: maybe 2600
[06:09:00] mchou: get back to me when you find out why SOI is more efficient
[06:09:00] StickMan: i know what soi is
[06:09:00] mchou: StickMan: it aint no tbred
[06:10:00] mchou: StickMan: look it up.
[06:10:00] StickMan: palomino then?
[06:10:00] rjune: mchou: you are meaning ap to be Alpha, right?

[06:10:00] mchou: no not palomino either
[06:10:00] StickMan: barton?
[06:10:00] StickMan: i dont think they made a barton 2400+
[06:10:00] mchou: yup. narrow silicon
[06:10:00] StickMan: i could be wrong though
[06:10:00] rjune: gah, ap == axp
[06:11:00] mchou: StickMan: you are wrong.
[06:11:00] Gumby`: I am wondering on peoples opinion on this..... I am looking to get a new card, I currently have one pvr250 and two bttv based cards. Is there any point in buying the more expensive pvr250 or will a pvr150 do just as good of a job (and is as easy to setup/compile ivtv modules for)
[06:11:00] StickMan: what am i wrong about chou
[06:11:00] mchou: they made barton 2400+
[06:11:00] StickMan: oh
[06:11:00] StickMan: ok
[06:11:00] StickMan: so you have a barton 2400+
[06:12:00] StickMan: is it a mobile axp?
[06:12:00] mchou: nope. desktop
[06:12:00] mchou: got it at frys
[06:12:00] jasta_ is now known as jasta
[06:12:00] mchou: I thought mobile was to expensive at the time
[06:13:00] mchou: too*
[06:13:00] mchou: a mobile prob. would have been acceptable in heat and noise.
[06:13:00] MadRush: Gumby`- if memory serves the difference between 250 and 150 is just that the 250 has a decoder and encoder while the 150 only has encoder
[06:13:00] MadRush: anybody feel free to correct me if im wrong
[06:13:00] mchou: but then you needed mobo which can support that
[06:14:00] mchou: votage stepping, etc.
[06:14:00] mchou: voltage*
[06:14:00] Gumby`: MadRush: so with the pvr150, watching liveTV the cpu is still going to take quite a hit

[07:03:00] nanoITX: xris: paper|electronic bill -> paytrist -> scanned -> reported, logged -> autopmt from bank, if desired. Also recurring payments. I have one bank account just for them to pull from
[07:03:00] xris: nanoITX: ah, no, not that sophisticated
[07:03:00] nanoITX: paytrust can send you a CD of all your scanned bills at the end of the year.
[07:03:00] nanoITX: $4.95 fto $11.95 a month and about $25-$30 for the annual CD
[07:04:00] xris: ah
[07:04:00] nanoITX: Oh, paytrust can also be ordered to send a paper cheque to anyone in the U.S., not just "affiliated" businesses.
[07:04:00] kormoc: I'm too lazy to scan my bills :P
[07:04:00] xris: my bank can do some of that electronically (with local companies)... and for the rest, they'll mail checks just fine
[07:04:00] xris: kormoc: I agree. heh

[07:04:00] Chutt: how stone age
[07:05:00] xris: Chutt: haven't figured out how to get things all electronically yet. plus, some stuff like credit cards, I just don't trust pure-electronic stuff
[07:05:00] kormoc: Chutt, are you totally electronic?
[07:05:00] xris: I'd forget to pay them
[07:05:00] Chutt: all i get paper bills for is water and property tax
[07:05:00] kormoc: nice
[07:05:00] nanoITX: I'd not mind electronic billing, except paytrust will not accept them via email.
[07:05:00] Chutt: everything else is auto-debited
[07:05:00] nanoITX: and I like to use them for payment.
[07:06:00] nanoITX: Auto-debit bad.
[07:06:00] Chutt: why?
[07:06:00] nanoITX: try getting them to stop when you want.
[07:06:00] Chutt: err, if they don't stop when you want, it's fraud.
[07:06:00] nanoITX: Auto-debit particularly bad for not-fixed bills.
[07:06:00] Chutt: same if they over-charge you
[07:06:00] Chutt: banks don't like fraud :p
[07:06:00] xris: nanoITX: yeah. at least until I get an excess of money in my bank acct.
[07:07:00] nanoITX: Chutt: not in Canada, when I lived there. I paid renter's insurance for 18 months after I left a place via auto-debit.
[07:07:00] Chutt: besides, i have an account just for that stuff
[07:07:00] kormoc: With my raise, I'll be in a much better position to deal with auto debit payments
[07:07:00] nanoITX: See, the bank owned the insurance company, and ...
[07:07:00] nanoITX: Chutt: auto-debit going into red kills credit rating.
[07:07:00] nanoITX: Maybe different in U.S.
[07:07:00] nanoITX: But I like to put a filter between the bank and billers

[07:10:00] Chutt: xris, my bank just changed my debit cc number. _that_ was a pain to go fix
[07:10:00] nanoITX: With paytrust I can say "pay this bill, but no more than $x a month. If more than $x a month, ask me."
[07:10:00] nanoITX: Can't do that with a bank auto-debit
[07:10:00] nanoITX: furthermore, if I *really* wanted to, I could have my computer parse the paytrust mails, and programatically approve certain things according to as complex an algorithm I'd care to code.

[09:10:00] Juski: I dunno about that
[09:10:00] Gumby`: asuming that wouldnt cause issues
[09:10:00] Juski: or get a pvr500 – 2 150 cards in one :)
[09:10:00] Juski: jesus my workplace has awful on-hold musak
[09:10:00] Gumby`: yeah, but I already have a pvr250
[09:11:00] Gumby`: and two bttv cards
[09:11:00] Juski: so have 3 tuners ;-)
[09:11:00] Juski: and bin the bttv cards
[09:11:00] Gumby`: I already do. lol
[09:11:00] Gumby`: they actually work quite well on their own
[09:11:00] Juski: I expect there'll be a massive quality difference between the 250 & bttv cards
[09:12:00] Gumby`: not at all
[09:12:00] NightMonkey (n=NightMon@pdpc/supporter/sustaining/NightMonkey) Quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
[09:12:00] Gumby`: there is definately a difference. But not that much
[09:12:00] Juski: well, putting uncompressed video onto the pci bus is taxing for the system
[09:12:00] Juski: OMFG no! panpipe version of Bryan Adams' Everything I do! noo
[09:12:00] Gumby`: I might notice more if I was running svideo, but I am only using rca
[09:13:00] Gumby`: I have the 250 and a wintvgo in the same box. watching live tv on either looks quite similar. recordings arent much different either
[09:14:00] Juski: interesting
[09:14:00] Juski: off the phone to work now (thank God!)
[09:14:00] Gumby`: most of my local stores here have pvr250's. so thats not a problem either
[09:14:00] Juski: wow. you can only get them on ebay in the UK
[09:15:00] Juski: anyway...
[09:15:00] Gumby`: www.ncix.com www.atic.ca
[09:16:00] Gumby`: those are CAD dollars
[09:16:00] Juski: that might be what's making your system unstable – having two bttv tuners putting uncompressed video on the PCI bus all the time (your CPU is doing the compression remember)
[09:16:00] Gumby`: I only have one bttv tuner in a specific box
[09:16:00] Gumby`: master backend has 250/bttv and slave backend has bttv
[09:16:00] Juski: ahh right
[09:17:00] Juski: I've got 3 tuners in the one box & they're all fine
[09:17:00] Juski: on a gigabyte motherboard with a Via chipset, no less
[09:17:00] Gumby`: lol, amazing
[09:18:00] Mobleman (i=Mobleman@217.61.223.55) Quit ()

[09:19:00] Gumby`: Ive never had stability issues with these boxes
[09:19:00] Gumby`: but it might be something to test without the tuners
[09:20:00] Juski: but you said " the box has stability issues"
[09:20:00] Gumby`: yes, with the tuners in it
[09:20:00] Gumby`: I meant before
[09:20:00] Gumby`: its just recently Ive had the stability issues
[09:20:00] Juski: and what are 'stability issues' anyway?
[09:21:00] Juski: falling over at apparently random intervals? powering down unexpectedly?
[09:21:00] Gumby`: mythbackend crashes or worse, the whole system locks up
[09:21:00] Juski: ah
[09:21:00] Juski: is it reproducable on demand or just seemingly random?
[09:22:00] Gumby`: pretty random
[09:22:00] Juski: be prudent to test all your memory very thoroughly

[09:23:00] Gumby`: no mem errors acording to memtest
[09:23:00] stuarta: morning
[09:23:00] Juski: anything other to consider, like you're running 64-bit?
[09:23:00] Juski: morning stuarta
[09:23:00] Gumby`: stuarta: yes it is, I should be getting to sleep
[09:23:00] Gumby`: nope, 32bit
[09:24:00] Juski: maybe a tuner swap would help there, but I'd be doubtful
[09:24:00] Gumby`: I am guessing that its a) a module conflict b) storage device problem
[09:24:00] Juski: check all your PSU voltages aswell.... and look for signs of 'badcaps' (google for it if you've never heard of it)
[09:24:00] Gumby`: no bad caps
[09:25:00] Gumby`: havnt checked rail voltages
[09:25:00] Juski: rule out the very simplest things first.. can save many headaches... hope I don't sound too much like teaching your grandma to suck eggs ;-)
[09:25:00] Gumby`: better not be any voltage problems. I have a higher end enermax psu in there
[09:25:00] Juski: for the 5 minutes it takes to check, always prudent ;-)
[09:26:00] Gumby`: I'll give it a whirl this weekend if I have a chance. Its bedtime now.
[09:26:00] Gumby`: thx for the info
[09:26:00] Juski: ah well. nighty night then
[09:27:00] Juski: now to debugger this flipping mythburn
[09:27:00] stuarta: hehehe
[09:28:00] Juski: think it's got a problem with projectx : http://pastebin.com/536625
[09:28:00] stuarta: johnp: around?
[09:28:00] stuarta: try running it independently
[09:29:00] stuarta: looks like it's getting crossed up with other bits of java on your system
[09:29:00] stuarta: I remember making a script which wrapped up the relevant command line
[09:31:00] Juski: hmmm I can run projectx on its own.. seemingly no errors, but I get ext.disk.access disabled or not found – whatever that means
[09:31:00] stuarta: i hate java...
[09:32:00] stuarta: conceptually great, in practice a real PITA
[09:34:00] Juski: hmmm I think that disk.access thing has something to do with this
[09:34:00] stuarta: normally classpath issues.
[09:36:00] stuarta: it uses the first thing that matches the class name it has
[09:36:00] stuarta: then fails dismally because the jar was build against something different.
[09:36:00] Juski: wth? I've got some directories in the mythburn folder, and they look to be compilery thingies

[09:42:00] stuarta: okay, I just built it against sun java 1.5.0.06
[09:43:00] stuarta: uses the commandline mode
[09:43:00] stuarta: built and runs okay, without throwing warnings....
[09:43:00] stuarta: what javac did you build it with?
[09:44:00] Juski: dunno. I think it pulled in the sun JDK
[09:44:00] Juski: when I emerged it
[09:44:00] stuarta: oh dear, you'll have to work out what it did.
[09:44:00] stuarta: gij doesn't work on projectx, and that's the default java on most distros.
[09:45:00] Juski: ah
[09:45:00] Juski: btw here's the preamble from projectx: http://pastebin.com/536640

[09:46:00] stuarta: blackdown did the linux port.
[09:46:00] Juski: right... so that's not the problem then?
[09:47:00] stuarta: not necessarily....
[09:47:00] Juski: I might've known projectx was masked for a reason
[09:48:00] stuarta: okay, just noticed mine has that ext.disk.access disabled too...
[09:50:00] Juski: but yours works?

[09:55:00] stuarta: spent so long talking about it, we didn't think he'd ever go.

[10:22:00] Juski: put it this way – I got mythtv working – livetv etc from a channels.conf but it wasn't pulling guide data in until I populated the missing column data
[10:22:00] Juski: luckily the box sitting next to it had that data
[10:23:00] johnp_: I can see how that might break, "9018" is kind of important for switching things on as I remember.

[12:19:00] laga: Juski: what did you want to do with projectx?
[12:20:00] DGnome: Juski: problem solved, minor typo :D
[12:20:00] ** DGnome ashamed **
[12:20:00] Juski: laga: just get the bleeder working
[12:21:00] Juski: DGnome: you said you'd checked already.. naughty
[12:21:00] laga: Juski: well, that was painless for me. i had to compile it myself, though
[12:21:00] Juski: heh
[12:21:00] Juski: got mythburn kind of working – up to the point where it runs replex.sh – which calls projectX
[12:21:00] Juski: btw laga which version of projectX do you have?
[12:22:00] laga: Juski: 0.9x
[12:22:00] Juski: riiiight... so this'll probably just be a JDK/JRE issue
[12:22:00] laga: Juski: there are a few problems...
[12:22:00] laga: Juski: did you modify those scripts?
[12:23:00] Juski: laga: yep... I changed $mypath='pwd' to $mythpath=/mythburn/mythburn
[12:23:00] Juski: that was all that was wrong widdit as far as I can tell
[12:23:00] laga: Juski: well, for projectx 0.9x, you have to change some other stuff
[12:23:00] laga: http://www.mythwiki.de/index.php?title=Benutzer:Laga/MythBurn
[12:23:00] Juski: apart from the fact the install.sh script didn't write any changes to mythburn.conf
[12:24:00] laga: Juski: mythburn is just a lovely piece of software, isn't it? :)
[12:24:00] Juski: aha! I suspected that -o had to be changed to -out
[12:24:00] laga: want a diff?
[12:25:00] Juski: it's ok – I can edit 3 lines myself
[12:25:00] Juski: ;)
[12:25:00] stuarta: twice
[12:25:00] laga: hehe. remember to take care of the log files as well
[12:25:00] stuarta: seem to remember it's repeated elsewhere in the same file...
[12:25:00] Juski: might sort all that shit out too

[12:26:00] Juski: the reason I had to correct $mypath was weird though
[12:26:00] laga: i had to correct it because it wasn't working, what was your reason?
[12:26:00] laga: :P
[12:26:00] Juski: install.sh didn't create the symlinks properly
[12:27:00] Juski: but the ln -f -s $mypath/blah lines weren't making the expected resultant links
[12:27:00] stuarta: very soon you will want to set fire to it and start again...
[12:27:00] laga: yep
[12:27:00] Juski: $mythpath was correct for all but the conf directory
[12:27:00] DGnome: Juski: problem not solved, http://pastebin.ca/39739
[12:27:00] Juski: :-/
[12:28:00] DGnome: Juski: "numberpad" works but not Back ..
[12:28:00] Juski: DGnome: where's the rest of the lircrc file then?
[12:29:00] DGnome: Juski: It's miles long
[12:29:00] DGnome: I'll have it up in a moment
[12:30:00] Juski: the line for Back looks okay
[12:31:00] Juski: the only difference with your file is the indents of the lines in the lircrc file – I dunno if that'd make a difference
[12:31:00] DGnome: Juski: http://dgnome.com/~dgnome/lircd.conf
[12:32:00] DGnome: maybe time for a new svn then..
[12:32:00] Juski: does 'left' work?
[12:32:00] DGnome: Juski: yes, left right up down and ok.
[12:32:00] DGnome: even without lircrc
[12:33:00] Juski: left should do the same thing as Esc in the menus
[12:33:00] DGnome: in the menus.. ok
[12:33:00] Juski: there's an option in the setup page to disable the Esc key.. I don't know exactly what that affects though
[12:34:00] DGnome: hmm
[12:34:00] directhex|work: that one bugs me. i had to hack the source about a bit to make "quit" a different key to "back a menu page"
[12:34:00] directhex|work: i.e. so the power button on my remote would quit from any menu point, versus the exit button going back a level & stopping on the main menu
[12:35:00] Juski: you know another thing I don't like about mythburn? having to sign up to the knoppmyth forums to find out about it
[12:35:00] Juski: :-O
[12:35:00] DGnome: Juski: left goes out of Menu and then works as skip back in live-tv for example

[12:40:00] st0rmy: analogue tv i.e.
[12:40:00] directhex|work: st0rmy, that depends on SEVERAL factors, including what kind of tuner, and how you connect your machine to your TV
[12:40:00] st0rmy: directhex|work, i'm using m10000 nehemiah with tvout
[12:41:00] directhex|work: so... the yellow composite video lead?
[12:41:00] st0rmy: yes
[12:42:00] directhex|work: nothing will give you "near tv quality" through composite
[12:42:00] Juski: laga: that diff would be great now please ;-)
[12:42:00] st0rmy: directhex|work, will s-video help?
[12:42:00] DGnome: dvi/hdmi is the only way to fly.
[12:42:00] Juski: svideo helps a lot
[12:43:00] Juski: RGB is even better though
[12:43:00] st0rmy: i have pinnacle pctv pro plus card and an s-video output on the board
[12:43:00] directhex|work: svideo is FAR superior to composite. it's not perfect, natch, but it's a massive improvement
[12:44:00] Juski: one thing to watch about the svid output is that sometimes areas of saturated colours have crosshatch interference
[12:45:00] Juski: sparkles otherwise though
[12:45:00] directhex|work: just use DVI or VGA like all right-thinking individuals ;)
[12:45:00] Juski: for PAL? it's a bit of overkill, that
[12:45:00] directhex|work: but you get sexy high-definition menus!
[12:45:00] st0rmy: i have PAL here, how would I use DVI/VGA?
[12:45:00] Juski: with a TV that has those inputs
[12:46:00] directhex|work: st0rmy, with an expensive TV
[12:46:00] st0rmy: oh :/
[12:46:00] Juski: st0rmy: I use svideo on my EPIA board.. xorg.conf is at www.juski.co.uk/xorg.conf

[16:25:00] laga: <you may play it while it's recording. time-shifting, you know? :)

[16:27:00] mik3: i just wish that commercial flags worked before flagging was completed....
[16:27:00] directhex|work: eidolon, you can do whatever, as long as you don't want to fast-forward past what's been recorded. the telling-the-future module's not coming in until version 0.26
[16:27:00] laga: mik3: you could to real time flagging, at least with SVN. but i'm not sure if that works well
[16:28:00] mik3: well, i have another machine that starts flagging when the recording starts, so it is happening "realtime-ish", but the database doesn't seem to get updated until it's completed
[16:28:00] stuarta: laga: i believe the problem is that even with realtime flagging, you can't skip till the whole

[18:21:00] laga: hehe
[18:21:00] laga: it'd be spiffy to have a bot react on triogger like !RTFM – the bot would spit out an URL to the official docs then
[18:21:00] Beirdo: heh
[18:21:00] Beirdo: I dunno
[18:21:00] Beirdo: heh
[18:22:00] Beirdo: I don't want a featureful bot, really
[18:22:00] Beirdo: I want one that's small in memory and does its job well
[18:22:00] laga: well, triggers hsould be less work then full text search :)
[18:22:00] Beirdo: nah
[18:22:00] Beirdo: full-text search is just an SQL query
[18:22:00] Beirdo: :)
[18:22:00] Beirdo: assuming I use mySQL
[18:23:00] laga: http://colas.nahaboo.net/software/irclogger/ – this one looks nice
[18:23:00] Beirdo: I've coded that before (for the mud's help files)
[18:23:00] Beirdo: works great
[18:23:00] laga: mysql? nice idea
[18:24:00] Beirdo: I will NOT run a python bot
[18:24:00] Beirdo: Java's bad enough, thanks
[18:24:00] Beirdo: the whole idea is to have a memory-lightweight replacement
[18:24:00] Beirdo: hence C
[18:24:00] laga: hehe
[18:24:00] Beirdo: and I already have mysql running on the server
[18:24:00] Beirdo: so...
[18:25:00] xris: heh
[18:25:00] ** xris likes java these days. **
[18:25:00] xris: but it's a failed technology.
[18:25:00] Beirdo: Java is a frigging hog
[18:25:00] xris: need everything to switch to parrot.
[18:25:00] Beirdo: I want my bot to take like 100k in memory, not 6 threads of 24MB each
[18:25:00] xris: lol, true
[18:26:00] laga: i'm not really sure why i had to install java from third-party repositories in debian, but i'm sure it's not a good thing
[18:26:00] Beirdo: licensing
[18:26:00] scopeuk: is itthe official sun java
[18:26:00] Beirdo: you have to agree to Sun's license
[18:26:00] Beirdo: which is decidedly NOT GPL or other free licensing like it
[18:26:00] scopeuk: if so it probably violates one of debians open source policys for allowing content into the apt repository
[18:27:00] xris: java is very cool for being cross platform (I'm now dependent on two java-based programs for making my life easy), but it's annoying at times.
[18:27:00] laga: well, i know it's a licensing issue, but technology like that should be open.
[18:27:00] Beirdo: xris: yeah, I like Java for that
[18:27:00] scopeuk: imho you shouldent be able to lock people out of programing langauges
[18:27:00] Beirdo: laga: you want Sun's address so you can write them a letter?
[18:27:00] xris: laga: yup. but even if they open it, it'd likely be under something like the MIT license that requires attribution, and thus not gpl compatible.
[18:27:00] xris: Beirdo: that's why I have high hopes for parrot binaries.
[18:27:00] laga: Beirdo: save your sarcasm for someone else ;)
[18:28:00] Beirdo: it's Friday afternoon. bite me :)
[18:28:00] Beirdo: hehe
[18:28:00] xris: just need a nice cross platform gui toolkit and you're all set.
[18:28:00] Beirdo: ick.
[18:28:00] Beirdo: GUI?!
[18:28:00] Beirdo: hehe
[18:28:00] Beirdo: hey, xris, you feel like slapping together a PHP web frontend for a new bot if I get that far this weekend? ;)
[18:29:00] xris: Beirdo: depends on the app. in my case, I found an awesome financial management program yesterday... all java so it actually works in linux
[18:29:00] xris: Beirdo: I don't mind, no.. depends on time, though.
[18:29:00] Beirdo: puzzlepirates is also Java
[18:29:00] Beirdo: I play it on my Ubuntu laptop all the time
[18:29:00] Beirdo: but for an IRC bot, Java is retarded :)
[18:30:00] Beirdo: OK, well, I'll see how far I get, etc
[18:30:00] Beirdo: tonight will be spent playing pirates with the fiancee :)
[18:30:00] Beirdo: I'll setup a trac instance when I get ready
[18:31:00] Beirdo: my goal is to have the bot be lightweight and useful for logging
[18:31:00] Beirdo: MythLogBot: prepare to meet your maker, you frigging hog!
[18:31:00] laga: MythLogBot: help beirdo
[18:32:00] Beirdo: heh
[18:34:00] Beirdo: mysql is already required for the wiki, my blogs, asterisk call details, etc
[18:34:00] Beirdo: so why not log to it (assuming it will be fast enough)
