[00:05:00] sPiN-: fellas, what should my record resolution be? it was at 480x480 by default and that doesnt make any sense
[00:05:00] sPiN-: i put it upto 640x480, it is NTSC
[00:05:00] kormoc: 480x480 works well, as would 720x480
[00:06:00] sPiN-: really? that doesnt seem right, it is a 4:3 display why wouldnt it be 640x480?
[00:08:00] kormoc: on mine, it adds black bars
[00:08:00] kormoc: NTSC is 648 x 486 anyway
[00:09:00] Nichotin: what res is pal? 720x480?
[00:09:00] inkypinky (n=inkypink@24-107-24-106.dhcp.stls.mo.charter.com) Quit ()
[00:09:00] kormoc: 720 x 486
[00:09:00] juski: is it? I thought NTSC was 720x480
[00:09:00] juski: PAL is 720x576
[00:09:00] kormoc: juski, that's NTSC D-1
[00:09:00] kormoc: juski, that's PAL D-1
[00:09:00] Nichotin: uhm
[00:09:00] juski: ah
[00:09:00] kormoc: http://www.strata.com/support/3dmanual/ch13/ch13_7.html
[00:10:00] Nichotin: what is pal d-1?
[00:10:00] kormoc: "The D-1 pixels used in the PAL format are displayed using a horizontal axis. This format uses the same standard frame aspect ratio as the PAL format. Unlike the PAL format, the D-1 PAL uses a 720 by 576 resolution."
[00:10:00] sPiN-: so why would it record 480x480, that is a 1:1 ratio instead of 4:3?
[00:10:00] jvs: 720x576 is resolution my pvr-250 cannot handle
[00:11:00] juski: ?
[00:11:00] dasOp: all about the horizontal res
[00:11:00] juski: my pvr150 handles 720x576 just fine
[00:11:00] jvs: strange
[00:11:00] Nichotin: ok, I have pvr350
[00:11:00] juski: looks way better than 480x480 that's for sure
[00:11:00] Nichotin: I guess 720x576 should work
[00:11:00] jvs: I get about 3 seconds, stuttering, and then it dies
[00:11:00] juski: and doesn't take up much more space, somewhat confusingly
[00:12:00] meushi: good night
[00:12:00] juski: but I guess the filesize is all about bitrate
[00:12:00] meushi (n=meushi@pppoe48-99-luxdsl-139.pt.lu) Quit ("Client exiting")
[00:12:00] juski: night meuishi
[00:12:00] jvs: I use the next lower now
[00:12:00] jvs: 720x526 or smthg like that
[00:12:00] inkypinky (n=inkypink@24-107-24-106.dhcp.stls.mo.charter.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:12:00] kormoc: I record at 480x360, but used to record at 480x480 just fine
[00:14:00] inkypinky: n00b here!! I am trying to invoke mythv-backend daemon and i keep getting autentication errors any pointers where can I start troubleshooting. I ran mythtv-seup configured everything and ran mythfilldatabase too but not abe to start up the backend
[00:15:00] scottder: Anyone here using the Hauppauge PV%-150?
[00:15:00] scottder: PVR-150
[00:15:00] sPiN-: scottder: yep
[00:15:00] Nichotin: ok, I set it to 720x576, hope this works
[00:15:00] kormoc: inkypinky, most authentication errors are meaningless, can you copy and paste the entire thing?
[00:15:00] juski: yep
[00:15:00] alpha255: 250 here
[00:15:00] kormoc: m179 here
[00:15:00] sPiN-: i setup my to 740x480
[00:15:00] sPiN-: seems ok but makes no sense
[00:15:00] inkypinky: Starting MythTV server: mythbackendSession management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
[00:15:00] inkypinky: /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log: Permission denied
[00:15:00] inkypinky: Error opening logfile
[00:15:00] scottder: I am starting with a pretty basic setup
[00:15:00] scottder: any downside to the 150?
[00:15:00] alpha255: better on cost
[00:15:00] juski: it can only capture one input at a time
[00:15:00] alpha255: newer card
[00:15:00] sPiN-: scottder: if you got the remote be sure you have ivtv .4.2
[00:16:00] kormoc: Session management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed can be ignored
[00:16:00] Ryushin (i=proxy@windwalker.openinnovations.com) Quit (Connection timed out)
[00:16:00] kormoc: /var/log/mythtv needs to be read/writabel by the mythtv user
[00:16:00] alpha255: juski, can 2/350 caputure two inputs?
[00:16:00] kormoc: inkypinky, what distro?
[00:16:00] kormoc: alpha255, no, only the 500 can
[00:16:00] scottder: sPiN-: are you referring to the package that includes the remote?
[00:17:00] inkypinky: kormoc, debian testing. lemme check the permission on that log file
[00:17:00] Nichotin: you guys know the thumbnails in mythweb? how can I make them be captured somewhere else in the recording? I mean, it seems to always pick a frame right before the show actually starts
[00:17:00] sPiN-: ivtv is the driver used for video playback, but it has some other stuff too
[00:17:00] alpha255: i thought the 150 had some chips combined to make it cheaper than the 250
[00:17:00] scottder: wasn't sure what I was going to do remote-wise
[00:17:00] kormoc: Nichotin, there's a setting in mythfrontend somewhere the defines it to 64 seconds or so
[00:17:00] scottder: trying to do this as cheaply as I can :)
[00:17:00] Nichotin: ah
[00:18:00] Vantage__: anyone know how to specify an ati card to use either s-video or composite output instead of the monitor?
[00:18:00] kormoc: alpha255, yes, it uses one chip to do it all, but still only one stream
[00:18:00] kormoc: Vantage__, read the ati driver manual
[00:18:00] alpha255: k
[00:18:00] alpha255: the 500 has two tuners right?
[00:18:00] kormoc: correct
[00:18:00] juski: two tuners and 2 mpeg encoders
[00:18:00] kormoc: the 500 is two 150's on a single card
[00:18:00] thechris (n=chris@cv517-216.cv.siue.edu) Quit (No route to host)
[00:18:00] juski: so you can record 2 things at the same time on the same card
[00:19:00] Nichotin: kormoc: unf, cannot seem to find it
[00:19:00] scottder: that reminds me ...I'll need something with s-vid output too
[00:19:00] kormoc: Nichotin, you need to mkdir /var/log/mythtv and make that directory read/write by the mythtv user
[00:19:00] alpha255: pip!
[00:19:00] alpha255: picture in picture ?
[00:19:00] kormoc: yup
[00:19:00] Nichotin: Nichotin: I was talking about the thumbnail stuff
[00:22:00] squeegy (n=mike@cpe-24-33-74-234.cinci.res.rr.com) Quit ("This computer has gone to sleep")
[00:22:00] kormoc: Nichotin, ooh, it's in there somewhere
[00:22:00] kormoc: it might be in mythtv-setup tho
[00:22:00] scottder: sPiN-: what are you using for a remote?
[00:22:00] Nichotin: kormoc: can mythtv-setup be run with the backend still running?
[00:22:00] sPiN-: the one that came with my 150
[00:23:00] Vantage__: kormoc: ok, I did and it didn't say. Any thoughts?
[00:23:00] scottder: Ah...
[00:23:00] kormoc: Nichotin, sure, it throws a warning
[00:23:00] kormoc: Vantage__, it does say
[00:23:00] sPiN-: ohhh man i change the livetv record settings to 720x480, it looks muuuch better!
[00:24:00] sPiN-: could of issues with the remote ive had is i dont know what to set all the buttons too
[00:25:00] Vantage__: kormoc: Not the manual I have. It's a directory called user-manual and has one page in it. index.html. The page contains only the list of cards it works for and the system requirements. Do you have another document that contains the relevent info?
[00:25:00] sPiN-: like when i press the videos button id like it to go to the videos module of mth, and when i hit music, id like it to just to the listen to music module

[00:26:00] kormoc: Vantage__, there's a util somewhere that it talks about that can help with it
[00:26:00] ** nanoITX is chatting from his nano-ITX in an Silverstone LC08 case! **
[00:26:00] kormoc: Vantage__, I've done it one, and I had docs from ati about it, so I know it's out there
[00:26:00] nanoITX: All I need to do is build myth for it, using the CN400 for MPEG2 decoding.
[00:26:00] xris: sPiN-: jump point editor in mythweb's key settings.
[00:26:00] xris: dunno where in the frontend.
[00:26:00] Vantage__: kormoc: were the docs online somewhere or did it come with the driver? I can't seem to find anything useful that came with the driver itself...
[00:27:00] juski: nanoITX: nice... they got mpeg4 decoding going yet?
[00:27:00] nanoITX: juski: dunno... I'd be happy with HD MPEG2 in H/W
[00:27:00] nanoITX: the only sucky thing is that the damn thing still needs a small fan.
[00:28:00] nanoITX: I tried running it without one and it got to 70C with the CPU loaded before I stopped the torture.
[00:28:00] juski: small heatsink with a small fan more or less equals bigger heatsink with no fan
[00:28:00] sPiN-: xris: so like bind it to an un configed key on the keyboard then point set the config= to that key in the lircrc file eh?
[00:28:00] juski: or bigger heatsink & huge, slow, silent fan ;-)
[00:28:00] brejc8 (n=Alien@host81-7-34-139.adsl.v21.co.uk) has left #mythtv-users
[00:28:00] nanoITX: the heatsink is already huge on the damn thing. I heatpipe would be perfect for this — with the big alluminum top of the case
[00:29:00] xris: sPiN-: yup. dunno how to do it with the direct lirc interaction (rather than using lirc as a keyboard type event sender)
[00:29:00] nanoITX: still beats a PC by miles, though.
[00:29:00] juski: nanoITX: so it needs a bigger fan then
[00:29:00] nanoITX: can't... it has an integrated fansink
[00:29:00] sPiN-: well i will give ti a try, thanks!
[00:29:00] nanoITX: heatpipe is the way to go.
[00:29:00] nanoITX: still.. it's about 18–20 dbA
[00:29:00] juski: so you can buy these things now?
[00:29:00] nanoITX: yup
[00:30:00] juski: where from?
[00:30:00] juski: and how much, more importantly ;)
[00:30:00] sPiN-: does anyone know anything about this error i get saying that it was unable to 'get color key color'
[00:30:00] nanoITX: gott check my invoice. about $400 with 512MB RAM
[00:30:00] juski: 18–20dBA.. that should be un-noticeable in a livingroom, but that's what they said about my M10k board
[00:31:00] inkypinky (n=inkypink@24-107-24-106.dhcp.stls.mo.charter.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:31:00] nanoITX: damn... gotta go... but I will be back later.
[00:31:00] juski: and I used to be a club DJ so it's not like I can hear pins drop
[00:32:00] Nichotin: humf, what does it take to get color when using the svideo output on a epia-m?
[00:32:00] nanoITX (n=rshollan@dsl-158-251.atm02.sea.blarg.net) Quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[00:32:00] Nichotin: composite looks like shit
[00:34:00] inkypinky: the mythtv backend only starts when I do a ' sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start ' while logged in as the user mythtv. I want it to launch during system startup startup – is this so by design or can that be modified
[00:34:00] alpha255: inkypinky, chkconfig is your friend
[00:34:00] alpha255: if you are on fedora/redhat
[00:34:00] inkypinky: me on debian testing
[00:35:00] alpha255: init scripts then
[00:35:00] alpha255: there should be a gui for starting services
[00:35:00] juski: Nichotin: an xorg.conf with the right bits in, of course ;-)
[00:35:00] Gazz (n=garethy@82-71-37-100.dsl.in-addr.zen.co.uk) Quit ("Ex-Chat")
[00:35:00] alpha255: inkypinky, you running gnome?
[00:35:00] inkypinky: the case is that it refuses to launch even from a su login
[00:35:00] inkypinky: yes indeed I am running gnome
[00:36:00] alpha255: look under the desktop pull down menu
[00:36:00] alpha255: system settings
[00:36:00] juski: Nichotin: www.juski.co.uk/xorg.conf
[00:36:00] alpha255: I'm thinking taht would be the place for a gui entry to set services to start automatically
[00:37:00] inkypinky: I already have the service at the correct runlevel with the proper symlinks the problem is that it wont start as the root user
[00:38:00] inkypinky: only when I login as mythtva nd so a sudo that the service starts
[00:38:00] alpha255: juski, did you do that theme?
[00:38:00] \Grooby\ (n=Grooby@wsip-70-184-243-171.dc.dc.cox.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:39:00] juski: alpha255: yup
[00:39:00] juski: gonna give the new version a damn good testing shortly
[00:40:00] juski: little taste of the future: http://www.juski.co.uk/mythfrontend3.png
[00:41:00] juski: and http://www.juski.co.uk/pg.png
[00:41:00] kormoc: Vantage__, online I beleive
[00:41:00] alpha255: nice!! :)
[00:41:00] juski: cheers
[00:41:00] alpha255: i'm pretty stoked about mythtv... I have the tv, gui, remote, audio all working
[00:42:00] kormoc: commerical flagging for the win!
[00:42:00] Kyler (n=chatzill@lairds.us) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[00:42:00] b_e_n_z (n=Mercedes@pcd259124.netvigator.com) Quit ("Spammers will go to jail for life")
[00:42:00] juski: I missed a recording tonight for the 1st time in ages.. I just blindly set it up & didn't realise there was a conflict until it failed to record
[00:43:00] juski: I was using all 3 of my tuners at the same time
[00:43:00] kormoc: better get 3 pvr 500's
[00:43:00] scottder: that's a sign you watch WAY too much TV :)
[00:43:00] juski: so when I'm done testing this (other) box, it's gonna get another one
[00:44:00] nanoITX (n=rshollan@dsl-158-251.atm02.sea.blarg.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:44:00] juski: kormoc: I have one analogue tuner & two DVB-T... not buying another analogue
[00:44:00] nanoITX: Sorry 'bout that... my KVM is acting up
[00:44:00] nanoITX: anyway on wher I got the nanoITX: http://www.digitalww.com
[00:44:00] nanoITX: US$400
[00:44:00] nanoITX: another $60 for 512 MB RAM
[00:45:00] nanoITX: I got the board around July 2005
[00:45:00] nanoITX: On the LC08 case... there wre TWO VERSIONS: Via changed the mobo at the last minute and Silverstone had to retool the case to accomodate a fan vent on the top (they orriginally included a heatblock)
[00:46:00] nanoITX: The new case, from Silverstone is US$132. Add a slimline DVDRW and 500 GB disk, and your up to almost $1000
[00:46:00] kormoc: meh
[00:46:00] kormoc: I perfer $200 for a myth shuttle sized box
[00:46:00] juski: nanoITX: that fan could do with being twice the size
[00:47:00] nanoITX: There are few if any new LC08 cases in the US: they're on a slow boat from Taiwan — I got mine by begging and pleading to purchase the show demo case — Silverstone USA let me have it for $60.
[00:47:00] juski: use a speed controller on it & quieten it down a bit
[00:47:00] nanoITX: I was expecting it to be scratched a bit bit it's fine.
[00:47:00] juski: I've got an LC02 case & I'm not impressed with Silverstone at all
[00:47:00] juski: very expensive for what it is
[00:48:00] nanoITX: When via decided to accomodate the Luke processor and CN400, they had to rotate and change tghe power connector in the corner so all the back panel stuff got moved.
[00:48:00] nanoITX: Yeah, it's expensive, but here's where it beats the Shuttle: CN400 H/W MPEG2 decoding.
[00:48:00] nanoITX: There are some mini-ITX boards that have that, but they tend to have a VT1623 SD YPbPr encoder instead of a VT1625.
[00:49:00] juski: that board is about 5 inches square :-)
[00:49:00] nanoITX: yup
[00:49:00] nanoITX: 12 cm
[00:49:00] kormoc: nanoITX, hardware mpeg2 decoding via my nvidia card, hdtv even :)
[00:49:00] juski: actually how much smaller than mini-itx is that?
[00:49:00] juski: can't be that much smaller
[00:49:00] nanoITX: I took a bunch of picks (but with a lousy camera) as I built the thing... I can post them some time soon
[00:49:00] kormoc: juski, about 2 inches on a side
[00:49:00] kormoc: iirc
[00:49:00] nanoITX: mini-ITX is 17cm x 17 cm.
[00:50:00] nanoITX: kurmoc: on a nanoITX or miniITX? nanoITX only has CPCI slot.
[00:50:00] juski: I took my EPIA board into work to show it off... everyone had a damn good gawp at it ;)
[00:50:00] kormoc: nanoITX, miniITX
[00:50:00] Nichotin: juski: wow, what a great config.. picture scewed a bit left with 720x576 though, any way to fix that?
[00:50:00] kormoc: nanoITX, I went with a slightly larger, way cheaper solution :)
[00:50:00] nanoITX: kormoc: is it fanless?
[00:51:00] Nichotin: kormoc: only difference I made on mine was that I set it to 24bit
[00:51:00] kormoc: nanoITX, two large, slow fans, quite quiet
[00:51:00] juski: Nichotin: adjust the GUI settings in the Appearance menu of mythtv-setup
[00:51:00] juski: PITA to do, but you only need do it once ;)
[00:51:00] nanoITX: Cheaper? Lesse, take off the RAM, DVDRW. and disk, and it's $400 for the mobo, and $132 for the case. One could use a less expensive case.
[00:51:00] nanoITX: gotta go.
[00:51:00] nanoITX: bbaib
[00:52:00] Nichotin: juski: which is your tv? "TV-PAL" or "PAL TV"?
[00:52:00] juski: erm... dunno
[00:52:00] juski: can't remember – so long since I set it up
[00:52:00] Nichotin: :D
[00:53:00] juski: TV-PAL judging by my xorg.conf
[00:53:00] Nichotin: tv-pal is the one
[00:53:00] Nichotin: yeah
[00:53:00] kormoc: nanoITX, mine was $200 for Mobo, 2.13 ghz celeron D, and ram
[00:53:00] kormoc: nanoITX, as well as case
[00:53:00] juski: Nichotin: is the TV out filling the screen?
[00:53:00] Nichotin: juski: seems to be a huge list of funky via options
[00:53:00] levolap (n=levolap@62.48.88.185) Quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
[00:53:00] Nichotin: the tv is filling the screen
[00:53:00] juski: cool
[00:54:00] Nichotin: the image is a bit darker now, I think
[00:54:00] juski: be nicer if there was a control for centring etc
[00:54:00] Nichotin: yeah
[00:54:00] cosmo_: How do I have the system launch an app as a particular user on bootup? I always assumed that the system just ran apps as root out of local, but evidently thats not the case
[00:54:00] kormoc: nanoITX, mine was slightly under $400 total for everything
[00:54:00] ** kormoc shrugs **
[00:54:00] Nichotin: what options in the xorg.conf can scew the picture a bit?
[00:55:00] juski: Nichotin: you'd be entering into modeline territory there
[00:55:00] juski: see if you have any joy with xvidtune though
[00:55:00] juski: but be careful you don't lose your desktop ;)
[00:56:00] Nichotin: still b&w with s-video, though
[00:56:00] Nichotin: composite will have to do for now
[00:57:00] juski: hmmm
[00:57:00] juski: what PAL standard are you? where do you live?
[00:58:00] Nichotin: norway
[00:59:00] juski: oh wait.. works fine in composite... so maybe it's not that
[01:00:00] alpha255 (n=alpha@209.237.13.82) has left #mythtv-users
[01:00:00] juski: using an svideo to svideo lead or svideo to SCART?
[01:02:00] Nichotin: svideo to scart
[01:02:00] juski: does the lead work with other things? like a DVD player?
[01:03:00] juski: oh wait.. there might even be a BIOS setting for that too.. worth having a look
[01:03:00] Nichotin: what you mean? the scart on my tv works fine with composite on the epia, and a ps2
[01:03:00] Nichotin: I have checked the bios stuff
[01:04:00] Nichotin: composite looks just fine with those funky via options, only thing is, the picture is pretty good with 640x480, but scewed with 720x576
[01:05:00] juski: Nichotin: I mean.. does the svideo end of the lead work with other stuff that has svideo?
[01:05:00] darkfire (n=darkfire@rguest.roamr.utk.edu) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:05:00] juski: Nichotin: stick with 640x480 then ;)
[01:07:00] Nichotin: I don't get what you mean with lead..
[01:07:00] Nichotin: ah
[01:07:00] Nichotin: you mean the svideo connector
[01:07:00] Nichotin: havent tried it with anything else
[01:07:00] Kelerion: hey juski
[01:07:00] Nichotin: I think it was a plug that came with some video card, that just fit with the epia as well

[01:08:00] Kelerion: juski: you know you put an example animated png together for the new myth?
[01:09:00] Kelerion: new theme.. I mean
[01:10:00] juski: Kelerion: that was just a tester
[01:10:00] SteveWrightNZ: iMedia embedded MythTV instantly reboots on loading the kernel – any ideas ?
[01:10:00] Kelerion: yeah.. I know.. had another idea that might be interesting
[01:10:00] juski: btw Kelerion: www.juski.co.uk/mythfrontend2.png
[01:11:00] juski: fire away with ideas though, K ;)
[01:11:00] scottder: oooh cool
[01:11:00] scottder: Is there a good site for MythTV themes?
[01:11:00] darkfire: I have a vt6420 VIA SATA controller, and I can't get DMA to enable on it. when I do "hd_parm -d1 /dev/sata", it errors with "HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device" i've googled for it, and I can't find anything that seems to help. i have sata_via compiled in the kernel. any thoughts?
[01:11:00] Kelerion: oh – I like that
[01:11:00] Kelerion: that lends itself even more to my thought
[01:11:00] juski: darkfire: DMA comes as standard with SATA iirc
[01:11:00] darkfire: (this is with 2.6.13-gentoo-r5)
[01:12:00] juski: Kelerion: your thought being? (make the UI look like something?)
[01:12:00] kormoc: DarkBeer, juski is correct
[01:12:00] Kelerion: nope.. I installed MCE today (gasp!) and saw something I thought looked really nice
[01:12:00] kormoc: erm, that was to darkfire
[01:12:00] kormoc: darkfire, is your drive slow or something?
[01:12:00] darkfire: juski, well, I was having the issue with live tv viewing in myth, which i had before when dma was off
[01:13:00] Kelerion: I had to reinstall myth on that box anyways so thought I'd try MCE and see what all the hype was about
[01:13:00] kormoc: darkfire, hdparm -t /dev/sata
[01:13:00] kormoc: darkfire, how fast does it say the drive is?
[01:13:00] darkfire: Timing buffered disk reads: 162 MB in 3.03 seconds = 53.50 MB/sec
[01:13:00] juski: so come on Kelerion spit it out...
[01:13:00] kormoc: that is plenty fast for anything myth related
[01:14:00] Kelerion: in the background to mce's menu there is a *very* *very* subtle animation it's almost like clouds moving across the black background..
[01:14:00] Kelerion: and it isn't distracting at all
[01:14:00] juski: Kelerion: animation can't be done without libmythui
[01:14:00] Kelerion: the background is just a png isn't it?
[01:14:00] juski: or is it mythui.. anyway.. until the UI is redone
[01:14:00] scottder: juski: that theme is swee
[01:14:00] scottder: sweet
[01:14:00] scottder: ;)
[01:14:00] darkfire: hrmm, any idea what else might be causing really jumpy viewing? this is viewed through the tv-out of a nvidia fx5200, with a pvr-350 for input
[01:15:00] juski: sweet it may be, but started, it aint
[01:15:00] kormoc: darkfire, any programs using a lot of cpu? you can use top to see
[01:15:00] juski: Kelerion: yeh it's mostly all PNGs
[01:15:00] darkfire: not at all, i'm trying to set this up to primarily just be a mythbox
[01:16:00] kormoc: darkfire, and by chance, what nvidia driver version are you using?
[01:16:00] juski: it'd be much less wasteful to use OpenGL for effects like clouds, smoke, flames, fog...
[01:16:00] Kelerion: so can't the bg just be a single animated png? am presuming libpng (which I presume myth uses) would just handle it
[01:16:00] darkfire: 1.0.8178-r2
[01:16:00] juski: ... rotating, zooming....
[01:16:00] SteveWrightNZ: png supports animation ?
[01:16:00] juski: reflections...
[01:16:00] juski: yeh
[01:16:00] kormoc: darkfire, I would wadger that if you downgrade to 7676, your issue will be fixed
[01:17:00] SteveWrightNZ: kewl
[01:17:00] juski: but not in the _current_ (even SVN) mythtv
[01:17:00] darkfire: kormoc, thanks, i'll try that
[01:17:00] kormoc: darkfire, there's some issues with opengl vsync and nvidia driver version 8xxx that cause it to use 100% cpu for playback, causing skippyness
[01:19:00] juski: SteveWrightNZ: apparently PNG does support animation, but I've yet to find anything that'll save animated PNGs.. I know the version of GIMP I've got doesn't
[01:20:00] SteveWrightNZ: ok
[01:20:00] SteveWrightNZ: I got a gimp guru here, asking him now
[01:20:00] Kelerion: Gimp Animation Packgage?
[01:21:00] juski: erm... I used that to make the animated gif.. www.juski.co.uk/animated.gif
[01:21:00] sPiN-: ohh man this is working really well now :)
[01:21:00] SteveWrightNZ: GAP 2.2.8 doesnt support it
[01:21:00] SteveWrightNZ: png that is
[01:21:00] Kelerion: imagemagick does it
[01:21:00] Kelerion: "convert animation.gif animation.mng"
[01:22:00] sPiN-: i love the album art visualizer for the mythMusic, but i dont have all the album art coming up, what can i do to have them all show up like say amarok does
[01:22:00] juski: anyway.. resistance is futile.. mythtv won't work with it right now, I think
[01:22:00] Kelerion: or.. "convert *.png output.mng"
[01:22:00] Kelerion: okies.. lol
[01:22:00] SteveWrightNZ: o.O
[01:23:00] juski: sPiN: what does amarok do exactly? I think mythmusic can only show covers
[01:25:00] sPiN-: juski: it goes out to some amazon site and fetches all your covers
[01:25:00] juski: sPiN-: I think you have to put it all there yourself with mythmusic, but someone did a script a few days ago.. check the ML
[01:25:00] sPiN-: juski: there is a plugin script for amarok that will download the cover art and save it in the dir of the track, and i think that is how i ended up with some of the myth covers i have showing up, but i want to get them all, cause i love that it will full screen the album art
[01:26:00] sPiN-: cool thanks

[02:17:00] nanoITX: kormoc: O.K. so it's cheaper than the nano-ITX — I would have expected that in a mini-ITX board. But, what enclosure is it in? And, are there any fans at all (P/S, CPU, case, etc?) I originally wanted a fanless solution, and the nITX looked like it, but Via fscked up at the last minute with the N10000. I was considering an N 8k instead (which should run fanless) but was worried about processign power

[03:15:00] juski: nanoITX: running portmap on the server?

[13:44:00] dayl666: GreyFoxx: yeah indeed it worked once i was just playing around with the ip adresses, but it just worked once :(
[13:44:00] GreyFoxx: dayl666: So your home frontends are connecting to martinelli.homedns.org without a problem ?
[13:46:00] dayl666: GreyFoxx: they can connect but getting this msg Connecting to backend server: martinelli.homedns.org:6543 (try 1 of 5) Connection timed out. you probably should modify the Master Server settingsin the setup program and set the proper IP address.
[13:46:00] GreyFoxx: ok backup, all frontends are saying that? the ones on your lan and the remote one ?
[13:47:00] dayl666: GreyFoxx: lan works perfectly nice (but when using it with lan clients i usually set both ips to internal)
[13:48:00] GreyFoxx: Well, one problem you are going to run into is that I do not believe that you can use a hostname for the master backend IP setting. I'm pretty sure Myth assumes that whatever you give it is an IP only so it wont do a lookup on that hostname
[13:49:00] the-FoX: mythtv streams the data from backend to frontend by using tcp protocol ?
[13:49:00] GreyFoxx: the-FoX: yes
[13:49:00] GreyFoxx: the mythprotocol over tcp
[13:49:00] the-FoX: doesn't have udp less protocoll overhead?
[13:50:00] the-FoX: i just tested videolan and asked myself if it would be usable for mythtv ?!
[13:50:00] GreyFoxx: the-FoX: Generally it does
[13:50:00] GreyFoxx: the-FoX: Usable how ? As a server or a frontend ?
[13:51:00] the-FoX: my idea was: backend streams multicast udp stream of one channel, but two frontends can recieve the stream and it wouldn't be send twice into the network
[13:52:00] GreyFoxx: It doesn't do that now, so obviously you would have to start adding code to support multicast
[13:52:00] the-FoX: i thought so
[13:52:00] GreyFoxx: and even then you have to consider things like which frontend controls the stream ? For channel changes, pause/play, fastforward and rewind, etc
[13:52:00] psofa: any idea on how would i create thumbnails of my videos?
[13:54:00] the-FoX: GreyFoxx: i thought each frontend will buffer the stream locally. so you can timeshift. but i think it can't be realized that way
[13:54:00] GreyFoxx: the-FoX: no the frontend tells the backend where to jump to in the file
[13:57:00] the-FoX: GreyFoxx: wouldn't it be better the backend i a recorder and a media-transmitter (from air to lan) ?
[13:57:00] possie_ (n=possie@stevenkroon.demon.nl) has joined #mythtv-users
[13:57:00] possie_: hi
[13:57:00] juski: the-FoX: getting there: http://www.juski.co.uk/logo2.png
[13:57:00] possie_ is now known as possie
[13:57:00] the-FoX: juski: thanks
[13:58:00] GreyFoxx: the-FoX: It does that now
[13:58:00] GreyFoxx: Just not via multicast
[13:58:00] Mobleman: Does MythTV req kde?
[13:58:00] qfour20: god bless i hate being on call
[13:58:00] GreyFoxx: Mobleman: No
[13:58:00] juski: the-FoX: got a few things to line up ;)
[13:58:00] GreyFoxx: but the mythbrowser plugin does
[13:58:00] Mobleman: GreyFoxx: But, kde or gnome?
[13:58:00] GreyFoxx: I just never install mythbrowser
[13:59:00] qfour20: anyways... anybody have experience using a ti4200 to run a 1920x1080 panel? nvidia claims the chip can do it up to 80hz refresh rate
[13:59:00] Hoxzer (n=niko@dsl-hkigw2-fe10de00-26.dhcp.inet.fi) has joined #mythtv-users
[13:59:00] sjaakz0r: what's the keyboard command to start recording during watching?
[13:59:00] GreyFoxx: Mythtv does not require kde or gnome, mythbrowser the plugin itself requires konqueror
[13:59:00] GreyFoxx: but you don';t have to be using kde as your window manager
[13:59:00] Mobleman: Ahh... okay..
[13:59:00] Mobleman: So i
[13:59:00] MatsK (n=mk@c213-100-73-227.swipnet.se) has joined #mythtv-users
[13:59:00] qfour20: so THAT's why it took so long to emerge....
[13:59:00] qfour20: heh
[14:00:00] Mobleman: So I can install mythtv without having a window manager?
[14:00:00] the-FoX: anyone testet 1900 pixel width videos (HDTV) with mythv ? what cpu is neccassary ? anyone tested it with epia mainboards ?
[14:00:00] qfour20: the-FoX i will be testing on monday
[14:00:00] qfour20: xp2600m + ti4200 and a fx5700le
[14:00:00] GreyFoxx: Mobleman: You should use at least a minimal window manager to handle focus issues. But you certainly don';t need to run something like kde
[14:01:00] Mobleman: okay.. what do you use[14:39:36] <Mobleman> Har vi noget for til i morgen?
[14:01:00] Mobleman: [14:40:07] <Code> dansk – engelsk indepence ( vi har det for til i morgen, men vi har ikke engelsk )

[14:01:00] Mobleman: [14:45:09] <Code> ah
[14:01:00] qfour20: Mobleman: you can use myth with a framebuffer if you'd like
[14:01:00] the-FoX: qfour20: great ;) keep me informed
[14:01:00] qfour20: will do
[14:01:00] Mobleman: GreyFoxx: okay.. what do you use
[14:01:00] qfour20: can't wait for my westinghouse to show up
[14:01:00] GreyFoxx: Mobleman: personally I use IceWM
[14:01:00] Mobleman: Okay...
[14:02:00] Mobleman: GreyFoxx: I've only tried GNOME on my laptop...
[14:03:00] juski: the-FoX: like the overall look – tried to get the font as close as possible – turned out that Arial is the closest I have right now
[14:03:00] GreyFoxx: There are many lightweight window managers out there to pick from
[14:03:00] qfour20: if you're looking for a low-fat desktop environment, you might try xfce4
[14:03:00] qfour20: it's my personal favorite for laptops and the like
[14:04:00] Mobleman: GreyFoxx: And KDE and Gnome are heavy, right?
[14:04:00] GreyFoxx: Mobleman: yes
[14:04:00] qfour20: kde is beautiful, though
[14:04:00] Mobleman: qfour20: No!
[14:04:00] qfour20: hey
[14:04:00] GreyFoxx: On a dedicated myth box they are wastes of memory and cpu
[14:04:00] dayl666: GreyFoxx: thanks i've put in twice the external ip and put into hosts file the ip so that it is routed to my internal ip, no it works :)
[14:04:00] qfour20: if i can put my MOM in front of it
[14:04:00] qfour20: yes, it is quite wasteful, though
[14:05:00] coffee88: Hiya. Anyone use DVDstyler to make menus for dvds? Are there any other buttons available anywhere rather than the one default?
[14:05:00] qfour20: oh, i have an easy question... is there an lircrc file to be created / customized for each myth component?
[14:06:00] qfour20: the fast forward / rewind buttons don't work in mythmusic, and i want to map pgup / pgdwn to them for that one component of myth
[14:06:00] GreyFoxx: qfour20: I believe that myth only uses a single one
[14:06:00] xpis: Is there any way to make mythtv not mess with the brightness/capture settings of a framegrabber device? (or set these values)
[14:06:00] qfour20: hmmmm
[14:06:00] juski: ffs.. no unsolicited PMing, Benoni
[14:07:00] GreyFoxx: xpis: nope
[14:07:00] GreyFoxx: It will set them to whatever the settings are for the channel it is recording
[14:07:00] GreyFoxx: so you could always make the channel settings match what you want on the recorder
[14:07:00] xpis: Ok, I'll just use mysql to do a mass settings change.
[14:08:00] laga: make sure to get a backup
[14:08:00] qfour20: is there a way to customize what keystrokes mythmusic uses for forward and rewind, then?
[14:09:00] xpis: laga: don't worry, I always make backups.
[14:09:00] qfour20: apparently because of other keybindings, mythmusic needs to ff/rw on left and right arrow keys
[14:09:00] gdi2k (n=gdi2k@pD954C096.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) Quit ("Leaving")

[14:11:00] ** GreyFoxx giggles as svn compiles so that he can play with the new telnetable myth interface **
[14:13:00] xpis: GreyFoxx: What can be done with the telnet interface?
[14:15:00] qfour20: can you watch tv over a telnet session? that would be nerdy-useless it'd be cool
[14:15:00] ** qfour20 writes that down for a future project **
[14:16:00] adante: hmm
[14:16:00] GreyFoxx: qfour20: sure you could. using mplayer and the ascii renderer
[14:16:00] adante: so myth is configured to leave 5gb free on the hard drive, at the moment i have 20k free
[14:16:00] GreyFoxx: It's ugly and slow hwoever

[15:28:00] juski: "what's the best way I can ask someone what to buy so I can waste my money by buying something I end up not liking?"
[15:28:00] GreyFoxx: TUplink: That would make it a bt878 card which would use the bttv drivers
[15:28:00] Mobleman: Now the compiling is finish... and i have lots of files about mythtv
[15:28:00] juski: this album art downloader thing is very crashy
[15:28:00] TUplink: is that a decent card?
[15:29:00] Mobleman: And "yes" i'm a noob... :)
[15:29:00] juski: TUplink: an honest answer would be NO
[15:29:00] TUplink: thats what i thought it sucks in Winblows
[15:29:00] TUplink: neways gotta jety bbl
[15:29:00] juski: bt878 was first made, what.. 15 years ago or something?
[15:30:00] juski: certainly at least 10 years ago
[15:31:00] coffee88: darkdrgn2k: Gentoo? But you really better enjoy watching compile messages going by....
[15:31:00] darkdrgn2k: TUplink: bt878 works well
[15:32:00] darkdrgn2k: coffee88: i know but i figured its the only way i can get my old ait radeon to do video out.. compile the gatos patch into X
[15:32:00] darkdrgn2k: TUplink: just eachs juice

[15:40:00] dasOp: didnt someone write such a thing per request? or perhaps it was a tcp interface
[15:41:00] GreyFoxx: sssk: What do you mean live mode ?
[15:41:00] GreyFoxx: the backend does recording and such, the frontend handles playback
[15:41:00] Wole: darkdrgn2k: ppl have had some success with gentoo i think – there is a howtoo as well somewhere
[15:41:00] Kelerion: I see chris has just submitted a port based control in svn.. thats for frontend
[15:42:00] GreyFoxx: so if you mean controlling the frontend then yes, as of last night there is a telnet interface to control a frrontend
[15:42:00] sskk: GreyFoxx: I mean that "somthing" is recorded to the live-buffer
[15:42:00] GreyFoxx: I've been experimenting with it for the last 20 minutes
[15:42:00] GreyFoxx: sskk: That would be a frontend think. The frontend instructs the backend to start recording and the frontend plays it back
[15:42:00] Kelerion: GreyFoxx: is it handy?
[15:42:00] Mobleman: GreyFoxx: The IceWM won't start...
[15:42:00] GreyFoxx: Kelerion: It's sweet
[15:43:00] GreyFoxx: Mobleman: Google is your friend
[15:43:00] Kelerion: I saw it in the commits and I liked the sound of it
[15:43:00] GreyFoxx: take your error and go find out what it means
[15:43:00] Kamy: GreyFoxx: what is the telnet interface called, and where can I find it?
[15:43:00] GreyFoxx: Kelerion: It's really neat. I can thnk of several uses for it
[15:43:00] GreyFoxx: Kamy: It doesn't really have a name. It's just a Network Control interface
[15:43:00] GreyFoxx: and it was commited to the svn code last night
[15:44:00] Kelerion: Myth-Ability-To-Contol-By-Direct-Port-Access?
[15:44:00] Kelerion: doesn't seem catchy enough
[15:45:00] Kamy: haha
[15:45:00] sskk: GreyFoxx: yes. It's just that I don't want the frontend to playback, but I want to send the backend the message the frontend sends, so the backend will start filling up the live-buffer (am I completely off track?)
[15:45:00] GreyFoxx: 2006-01–22 11:35:21.163 NetworkControl: Listening for remote connections on port 6546
[15:45:00] GreyFoxx: 2006-01–22 11:35:26.741 NetworkControl: New connection established
[15:45:00] GreyFoxx: sskk: you would have to write something on your own to do that
[15:45:00] GreyFoxx: basically a "fake" frontend to setup a livetv stream
[15:46:00] Kelerion: or.. nasty approach.. use the same interface mythweb uses to set a manual recording from now-to-whenever
[15:46:00] sskk: GreyFoxx: ok. Thanks for answering. I was hoping someone had already done that, but that doesn't seem to be the case
[15:46:00] GreyFoxx: sskk: I don'tsee why you would do that
[15:47:00] sskk: I want VLC to stream the live signal?
[15:47:00] GreyFoxx: VLC wouldn't understand the Myth Ringbuffer from 0.18 and before
[15:47:00] GreyFoxx: and it wouldn't understand how the newly rewritten livetv code works either
[15:48:00] GreyFoxx: You are better off just getting vlc to stream directly from the tuner
[15:48:00] sskk: well ok.. so it will not be a way to go
[15:48:00] GreyFoxx: I do that when I'm at work sometimes
[15:48:00] sskk: ok. thanks. will try to work in that direction instead then.
[15:49:00] Kelerion: GreyFoxx: have you tried the NX stuff yet?
[15:49:00] GreyFoxx: The what ? :)
[15:49:00] Kelerion: remote x / vnc / type thing
[15:50:00] Kelerion: http://www.nomachine.com/download.php
[15:50:00] Kelerion: it is a hell of a lot nicer than vnc
[15:50:00] Kelerion: faster
[15:50:00] GreyFoxx: Never heard of it before
[15:50:00] GreyFoxx: cool
[15:51:00] Kelerion: I tried it last night.. I opened a session to my backend.. setup a frontend on it and I could see video!
[15:51:00] GreyFoxx: wanting video or just a preview windows ?
[15:52:00] Kelerion: I was just trying it out.. if I vnc into that same machine.. and go to Watch TV..I just get a blue screen in vnc.. blue where the video is supposed to be
[15:53:00] GreyFoxx: Right cause the box is outputing via xv, not x11 calls
[15:53:00] Kelerion: yup
[15:53:00] GreyFoxx: odds are that thing is causing ti to fallback to regular x calls
[15:53:00] Kelerion: I can see the preview windows though.. so that must use a different output
[15:53:00] Kelerion: in vnc
[15:53:00] GreyFoxx: yeah, regular x calls
[15:54:00] Kelerion: I thought it was quite a good debugging tool though for setting up your frontends
[15:55:00] Kelerion: it's actually released under gpl.. so if you download the source and compile it yourself.. all is fine
[15:56:00] Kelerion: although that fact seems to be hidden somewhere in the FAQ.. lol

[16:04:00] Kelerion: nope.. lol.. saw it mentioned on freshmeat last night
[16:05:00] Cromz: lol :) I'll look at it to. I use vnc daily to but accross the internet via ssh. and it is slow sometimes.
[16:05:00] Kelerion: downloaded it.. installed it on my backend.. downloaded the client for my xp machine and tried it out.. was nice
[16:05:00] Kelerion: apparently it works very nicely over a dialup.. which if you've ever tried with vnc is a royal pita
[16:07:00] Kelerion: I thought it was really cool when they implemented vino into gnome.. now.. if they did the same with this.. it would be excellent
[16:07:00] rjune: NX is quite a bit better than vnc
[16:07:00] rjune: it'll tranmit audio and print jobs too
[16:07:00] Kelerion: yup

[19:07:00] wylie: I tried to move a 1394 card to another (much faster) system, and it stops streaming within 60 seconds every time. then you have to fiddle with it for an hour (switching cables, repowering, etc) to make it work again.

[19:14:00] wylie: unfortunately it didn't.  ;) gscanbus is for DCT's. I'm stuck with SA3250HDs. will keep digging – but I think it has more to do with linux1394 drivers. based on jarod's notes on firewire, most firewire cards simply don't work well. you have to find the right combo

[19:22:00] juski: they do stock very good gold plated optical cables though ;-)
[19:23:00] Kelerion: I remember paying that for a 2 meter USB cable for my printer.. that was at dixons too.. ridiculous
[19:23:00] Kelerion: or was it 20 quid..either way was expensive
[19:23:00] kormoc: gold plated optical cables?
[19:23:00] ** kormoc would think that the gold plating would block the optical signal... **
[19:23:00] juski: remember going with someone to pick up a £20 printer... of course it didn't include a USB lead... £15 for one of them... and the cartridges... !
[19:24:00] juski: kormoc: I was kidding, but they actually sell gold plated optical cables
[19:24:00] Kelerion: yup.. in some cases it's actually cheaper to buy a new printer now than replace the cartriges
[19:24:00] juski: tried one of those refill kits the other day.. quite nifty apart from the stickers you get to cover the sealing plug
[19:25:00] Kelerion: never tried one.. always looked messy.. lol
[19:25:00] juski: £10 for 4 black refills & 6 CMY refills

[23:01:00] dasOp: the 350 does not add anything to its ability to capture
[23:01:00] axios: I want to build a htpc, to capture and watch live tv on
[23:02:00] dasOp: and you want pip and the ability to watch livetv on it and record at the same time

[23:09:00] axios: Bob-Laptop: whats the definition of a frontend, and a backend?
[23:10:00] GreyFoxx: the backend is the software that controls the tuners and recording. the frontend is the gui interface+playback
[23:10:00] Bob-Laptop: axios, frontend is where you watch from, backend has a tuner so you can record or use to view livetv
[23:10:00] GreyFoxx: the frontend and backend are 2 different bits of software and can all be run on the same box, or multiple

[23:21:00] GreyFoxx: xpis: Edit the kernel driver to use the keys you want ?:)
[23:21:00] GreyFoxx: That's what I do with mine :)
[23:21:00] xpis: GreyFoxx: I'd rather not have to patch the kernel with each release.
[23:22:00] GreyFoxx: Well if you are the type who doesn't usually compile your own kernel then it could be a pain, but if you already compile your own each time you update it then it's not much effort
[23:22:00] xpis: Although.. I compile the latest CVS v4l drivers separate from the main kernel, so I guess it wouldn't be that hard.
[23:22:00] a1fa: GreyFoxx: the newest svn version is not compiling
[23:23:00] GreyFoxx: xpis: I have acustomized ati_remote.c I use. I just copy it over after untaring the source and compile like normal
